JC de Vera has no regrets transferring to TV5 when it was still a developing network.
“No regrets. Hindi ko talaga siya iniisip. Mas mahal ko ang arte kaysa sa pagbilang ng fans. Mas normal, mas okay para sa akin. Mas private, mas maganda,” JC said at the pocket interview for “Valiente.”
Since his shift from one of GMA 7’s most in-demand actors to a talent of TV5, JC has done one project after another: “Ang Utol kong Hoodlum,” “My Driver Sweet Lover,” and now the upcoming drama remake “Valiente.”
He adds that he was not after fame when he first entered TV5. He was looking for challenge on the job. He is happy that he gets to explore other fields aside from drama, such as comedy and hosting.
“For two years na, nakakagawa ako ng kung ano-ano. So mas nae-explore ko yung abilities ko kung saan talaga ako pwede. Improvement pa,” he explains.
He feels grateful for the opportunities and career growth TV5 is giving him. JC reveals that that the network still plans to experiment on new shows and he’s happy to be part of it.
“Siyempre, para sa akin, main reason din kung bakit ako lumipat, para dun sa growth e. Gusto kong matuto palagi. Tamang-tama yung paglipat.”
He adds that ratings of competing shows don’t affect him.
“As long as nage-enjoy ang lahat, actually hindi na dapat iniisip na yun. For me, mas dun ako sa quality bago sa ratings. Kasi mahaba pa eh. Mahaba pa yung journey ng network,” he said.
Feeling threatened, but no complaints
But he admits feeling threatened, now that TV5 will reportedly get new male talents,
“Sumasagi sa isip ko, oo. Kaya lang, ano magagawa mo, di ba? Grateful lang ako na isa ako sa mga nauna. Nabibigyan ako ng priority,” he said.
JC is not complaining though, since he is getting continuous projects and feels that the network is growing.
“Siguro, ano lang, hindi ko lang alam kung gaano talaga nila ipupush yung mga bagong papasok. Pero masaya naman ako. Mas marami, mas maganda. Mas malaking network, mas maganda.” With reports from Chuck Smith

Borgy Manotoc
Borgy open to acting?
By Chuck Smith | Yahoo! Southeast Asia Newsroom
Borgy Manotoc has always been known as a fashion model. But is he open to acting or entering showbiz?
“Maybe. In time,” he said during a press conference for the independent film “Pintakasi” last Saturday, January 28. “I’m open. I’ve always been willing.”
According to the 28-year-old model and entrepreneur, there have been scripts and concepts offered to him. However, Borgy said he hasn’t “really found the movie or the project for me yet.”
Borgy explained he is looking for a project that’s the “opposite” of sexy, something far from what people would expect from him.
“I think it has to be something more fun. Something light or even dramatic but not where I look like a model, basically,” he said. “I don’t want to look like myself. I feel like I have different sides to my personality.”
Borgy said that while vanity is one of the aspects of his personality as a model, he has more to offer than that.
“I don’t take things too seriously and I don’t need to always look my best. I’m more than happy to be interpreted in different ways,” he said.
Creative side
Still, Borgy would much rather work behind the camera even if being in front of it is not new to him.
“I like being in front of the camera but I think I much prefer being behind it,” he said. “I feel like I’ve come from the creative side of this industry before I was in front of the camera.”
In fact, Borgy is working on the merchandising side of “Pintakasi,” The said film, which won Best Picture in the New Wave section of the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival, was produced by his mother, Ilocos Norte governor Imee Marcos.
“It was shock for everyone because my mother walked away from the project for a bit, she went into politics. Then all of a sudden, the movie was entered into the film fest and it was fortunate enough to win Best Picture. So it’s been a domino effect from there,” he said on the success of the film.
He added, “I just wanna help out in the merchandising side. I’m very happy to take the imagery and branding of this movie and turn it into different kinds of merchandise.”
On settling down
Borgy says he’s beginning to feel the need to “re-prioritize your life and start to think about things in the future.” Does this include the pressure of starting a family? Borgy, after all, has been in a relationship with model Georgina Wilson for a couple of years.
“Not just yet. Georgina and I are both very much involved in our careers right now. That’s both our priority,” he said.
Borgy added, “We’re both very happy together but I think we still have some time to grow and we still have so many things to do.”
He said their two years together “doesn’t feel too long.”
“When your schedule is so hectic, we do our best to see each other. Obviously, things can be quite difficult some times. (But) things have gone quite smoothly the past couples of months,” Borgy explained.
“Pintakasi,” which stars John Wayne Sace, Erich Gonzales, and JM De Guzman, will have its screening on February 8 in select SM theaters in Metro Manila and on February 29 in SM Baguio, SM Davao, and SM Batangas.

Cloie Syquia Skarne
Cloie loves and misses dad Gabby
After 16 years, Cloie Syquia Skarne is back in the Philippines. Finally, she got the opportunity she has been waiting - to see, be with and reconnect with her father Gabby Concepcion.
That may still have to wait because as of press time Cloie hasn't seen her actor-father. According to her and mom Jenny Syquia, they only had indirect communication with Gabby through Twitter and her sister KC.
“I'm very excited to bond with my dad,” exclaimed Cloie who already spent time with her sisters KC and Garrie.
So what will she tell her father when she finally meets him?
“I don't know what I'm going to say. It will just be natural. I love to see him and I missed him all these years,” intimated Cloie.
What she remembers about Gabby was the time he brought a Barney mascot to their hotel room.
“I've loved Barney since my childhood. I always watch him. I remember Barney in front of our room with lots of candies,” recalls Cloie smiling.
Time will tell when they'll meet in person and bond. They could have even met by now. Cloie will be busy honing her talents to prepare herself for a showbiz career together with sisters Garie and KC. She inked a three-year contract with VAA yesterday.
Vic del Rosario, head of Viva Films and its affiliates, explained that Cloie will cut a demo for them to gauge her singing prowess. They're doing this so they'd know how to improve her talents.
“Umpisahan muna namin sa modeling then eventually acting. Ayaw naming biglain,” explained Veronique del Rosario who heads VAA, the talent and artist management division of Viva.
So why did Jenny allow Cloie to come to Manila and sign up with Viva?
Jenny shared that when Cloie asked her if she could give modeling a chance, she didn't allow her because her daughter was only 14 then.
“She was too young then to face what kind of life she would be engaged in, plus the gossips and intrigues in showbiz,” Jenny explained further. Showbiz is demanding. It takes a lot of time and you have to be 100% in it!
