Veteran Journalist Defends Mocha Uson Saying: "Sagutin niyo si Mocha, patunayan nyo na mas maayos kayo"ng mag-isip, kung kaya niyo"

Recently, a petition asking Facebook for the suspension of the Mocha Uson Blog on Change.org made rounds online. Mocha Uson is a singer-dancer who has been a vocal Duterte supporter. She started gaining attention during the presidential campaign for defending then-Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Although she gained many supporters, many were angered by her lack of journalistic qualifications and her spreading of false information online. Over 90k have signed the petition so far. 

However, one journalist called out the Philippine media for abusing their freedom and for attempting to censor Uson. Her full post reads:

“Hindi natitigil ang pagkalat ng maling impormasyon o pekeng news sa pamamagitan ng pagbusal ng karapatan ng malayang pagpapahayag. Anyare sa inyo? Eh hindi ba nakiki never-again kayo? Tapos pag kaaway, mauuna kayo manawagan ng pag-busal — and on general, sweeping points pa, instead of a specific violation of standards. You do NOT defeat the cult of fake news and lazy, cynical propaganda by calling for a clampdown on free expression. 

Eh di wala na kayong pinagkaiba sa mga duwag at mga pikon na nilaro ang Facebook para mawala ang mga posts ng mga kasamahan ko sa hanapbuhay at mga kritiko nina Duterte at Marcos.

Sagutin nyo si Uson, punto per punto sa mga pahina ninyo. Ituwid ang mga mali at malisyosong “alternative” information na kinakalat nya.

Ipakita nyo na mas maayos kayo mag-isip at mas may respeto sa kapwa kesa sa kanya.

BREAKING: 11 Members Of Extremist Group Abu Sayyaf Have Surrendered In Basilan!

According to the commander of 104th Sultan Brigade Col. Thomas Cirilo Donato, 11 members of the rebel group Abu Sayaff (ASG) have just surrendered to government troops in Sumisip, Basilan.

Rebels Basri Laisun, Moton Indama, Marham Musana, Haimin Jalil, Halid Murasimin, Haraward Sahirulla, Hasim Baliyung, Sadjara Hadjarama, Tari Murasimin, Gulam Hajim and Ring Langka surrendered in Barangay Buli–Buli and turned over their high-powered firearms.

The said rebels are expected to be entrusted to the custody of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Gov. Mujiv Hatam “for rehabilitation and integration into the mainstream of our society” said Donato.

Area Movie Review: The Most Shocking, Most Disturbing Local Film On Prostitution With Great Ensemble Acting

THERE have been many local films about the oldest profession. The late National Artists Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal have their own versions: "White Slavery" and "Lunes, Martes, Miyerkules…" for Brocka and "Ligaw na Bulaklak" for Bernal. Other films in the same genre include "Prosti", "Mga Kalapati ng Dewey Blvd.", "Mga Rosas sa Putikan", etc.

But you haven't seen nothing yet unless you've seen "Area" by Louie Ignacio, which won the Special Jury Prize at the Eurasia International Filmfest in Kazakhstan. Written by Robbie Tantingco who wrote last year's award-winning "Ari, My Life with a King", "Area" is the most shocking, most disturbing film on prostitution we have seen.

The title is derived from a place called Area in Angeles City. During the heydays of the US Airbase called Clark Field, American soldiers on rest and recreation get their hired women from a notorious place called Fields Avenue. But local men who don't have as much money as the G.I.'s go to a place called Area, where women are much much cheaper.

During its heydays in the 60s to the 80s, it's said there were about 700 brothels in Area. In the movie, Area has already lost its appeal and there are now only 3 red houses left in it. The movie focuses on the brothel owned by Allen Dizon's family for four generations. Their prostitutes are held like captives inside their seedy, sordid "casa".

These lowly women of the flesh are Tabs Sumulong (the oldest one who's in her 50 but claims her pussy remains 18 years old), Sarah Brakensiek (a grossly overweight woman you'd wonder who'd ever want to bed her), Ireen Cervantes (who looks like she's the youngest, but is actually the former Rajah Montero who appeared in past films like "Katas", "Langit Mo Kaligayahan Ko", "Kamandag ni Venus" ), Sue Prado (who has three kids) and Ai Ai de las Alas as Hillary, an aging prostitute who dreams of going to America to look for the son she lost during the eruption of Pinatubo in 1991.

There are many comic touches in presenting the stories of these women that help offset the fact that they live in subhuman conditions and have such heartbreaking stories. They lead miserable dead end lives from which there is no escape. You can't help but feel so much pity for all of them, particularly for Sue's three little children who live with the knowledge that their mother is a whore.

The youngest child is especially pitiful for having club feet. They all have to get out of their very tiny cubicle whenever their mom is entertaining a customer. The daily meager meals of the women are just rationed to them and they all have to share whatever food is given to them.

The whole place is so hot that they're sweating all the time as they don't even have an electric fan. And the customers they get seem to be scums of the earth. It's so dehumanizing and you really feel like sinking into the lower depths that make you want to gasp for breath. These local sex workers are most certainly NOT happy hookers, and are hearts are filled with compassion for them.

The film takes place during Holy Week and you can hear the chanting of the Pabasa about Christ's Passion all throughout the movie. We are shown various flagellants undergoing Penitencia on the streets and there's a sequence where some of them are even nailed on the cross. Allen Dizon as the lead actor is given his own penitencia scene but it comes without any preparation as, before this, he was just shown ranting against their sex workers. And let's face it, it's really the actresses who play more dominant roles in this kind of material as this is their show.

The film shows the hypocrisy of some people, notably Allen's grandmother (superbly played by 84-year old Kapampangan actress Eufrocina Pena) and other family members, who always pray the rosary in front of their altar and yet have no qualms in operating a whorehouse where they exploit the women under their employ who have sustained their household for several generations.

The film works best as a wonderful piece of ensemble acting, as almost all the cast members do an outstanding job, especially the actresses who play sex workers. There is a scene where they are all shown removing their panties while on an examination table to expose themselves to a doctor who gives them an internal examination. This is played for laughs as the doctor eventually feels so dizzy from the foul smell emanating from their private parts, especially from Ireen Cervantes who has no qualms showing her clean shaven pudenda in a full frontal nudity scene with a pumping barangay tanod.

Ai Ai being the lead star is given many moments to shine and she does manage to give a compelling portrayal. She has a bizarre sex scene with real life Siamese twins who show their contorted bodies while in bed with her. She also has a touching moment with a kind customer, Francisco Guinto (the lead actor in "Ari: My Life with a King"), who gives her an electric fan but later takes it back. She's shown always counting the money she has saved through the years, which she aims to use for her trip to the U.S., amounting to something like P30,000. The scene where she finds out that her lifetime savings is stolen and she is crying her heart out while looking for it is very moving.

The movie is often difficult to watch because of the suffering, misery and degradation the characters go through, but we are glad that the ending offers a ray of hope and the film does not end on a very depressing note. But we think that the climactic scene showing a very important reunion would have been more meaningful if it happened during Easter Sunday, a season of rebirth where Mama Mary is shown being reunited with her Risen Son in the traditional Salubong procession at dawn. It would have been a fitting ending for a film where harrowing incidents and circumstances are shown during Holy Week.

JOYCE CHING plays her most challenging role to date as a young unwed mother in "Hahamakin ang Lahat", which will replace "Sinungaling Mong Puso" on GMA-7's Afternoon Prime starting Monday. Did she feel any reluctance in accepting the role?

"Yes, my initial fear is baka hindi ko makayang gampanan convincingly," she says. "I've never been pregnant so siempre, ayokong maging peke ang dating ng character ko as I don't know the feeling nung girl na nagkaroon ng dilemma na baka buntis siya. But then, kung di ko naman gagawin, baka pagsisihan ko, so I just asked our director Don Michael Perez to help me and guide me."

"Hahamakin ang Lahat" is her most daring, most mature role to date. She does a lips-to-lips kissing scene with ex-BF Kristoffer Martin for the first time. She's also shown in a two-piece bikini.

In the said soap, Kim and Gerald will also reunite them with their 'Sana Maulit Muli' and 'Tayong Dalawa' co-star Jake Cuenca. Also in the cast are Coleen Garcia, Ayen Munji-Laurel, Bing Loyzaga and Ms. Helen Gamboa, who was also with Kim-Gerald-Jake in 'Tayong Dalawa'.

PBB Lucky Season 7 Teens - Edward Barber to compete with Yong Muhajil, Christian Morones in the big jump challenge

Edward Barber has joined his fellow male teen housemates Yong Muhajil and Christian Morones in the group that will compete for the "Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky Season 7" big jump challenge.

The "Cheerful Charmer ng Germany" was really happy when he won the third flag. A flag represents a slot in the "big jump."

Having previously sacrificed that flag to help the girls in the domino task, Edward felt he was able to achieve both things successfully - to help the girls succeed in the task, as well as to be able to compete in the "big jump" challenge.
The remaining girls (Kisses Delavin and Maymay Entrata) were also happy for him and felt that the third flag really belonged to the Filipino-German housemate.
Edward won the third flag for recording the shortest length of time versus Kisses and Maymay in the challenge that required them to get the hidden keys in a room full of blind zombies (hello Halloween!). They should avoid the zombies, though, because being touched meant additional three minutes. The keys would be used to unlock the flag that is being guarded by another zombie inside a different room. The flag, once unlocked, would then be brought to its slot in the garden area.
So Yong, Christian and Edward will be competing for the "big jump." Do you think Christian (who has avoided eviction from the start because of his ability to perform well in the Ligtask challenges) will still be lucky and find his way straight to the Big Night? KIMERALD IS BACK: Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson Reunite in Kapamilya Primetime Series IKAW LANG ANG IIBIGIN

Former reel and real life sweethearts and Kapamilya primetime supremes Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson together again via ABS-CBN's newest primetime series, Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin.

It can be recalled that their four-year onscreen teamup was cut short after they did their last movie together Till My Heartache's End back in 2010.

It was also around that time when Kim and Gerald announced that they have put an end to their real-life romance.

Their reunion comes four years after their last movie together: 24/7 in Love in 2012.

Kimerald will be joined in this teleserye by Coleen Garcia and Jake Cuenca as well as Helen Gamboa-Sotto. Nicco Manalo, the son of Eat Bulaga! host Jose Manalo is also part of this new Kapamilya show.

"Sana po ikalat niyo ang balita. I'd like to thank Dreamscape for this project. Most of all, this is going to be magical," promised Gerald during the press conference ongoing now at the ABS-CBN compound.

For her part, Kim said, "I want to thank my Dreamscape family for giving me this project."

Will the lead stars also say the line 'Ikaw lang ang iibigin?'

"Siyempre, lahat naman tayo ay dumaan na dun. Kaya ganun ang title ng soap namin ay relateable siya," answered Gerald.

Why was Kim reluctant to accept a project with her ex-boyfriend?

"Siyempre pag um-oo at ako humindi, may reaction ang mga tao," explained Kim.

"Kung aanuhin ang issue noon, ang luma na nun.

"Kinakabahan ako sa mga sasabihin ng mga tao.

"I am challenged to face kung ano man ang sasabihin."
