Anne Curtis is new Dyesebel

After weeks of speculation, ABS-CBN finally revealed that it has chosen Anne Curtis to play the mermaid Dyesebel in a remake of the popular Mars Ravelo story.

The "It's Showtime" host, who just learned the good news the day before the Kapamilya network made its formal announcement, showed how overwhelmed she was.

“It’s another dream come true. Sobra lang akong speechless kasi napakalaking project ito. Sinasabi ko noon sa interviews dati, dream role ko ang Dyesebel. So ito na, 2014, great way to start the year," she  told media in a press conference on Thursday, January 9.

She feels honored to reprise the role  Vilma Santos, Charlene Gonzalez, Alice Dixson and Marian Rivera portrayed years ago.

"Lahat sila sexy. Mapasama lang doon is truly an honor. Gagawin ko ang lahat, mag-aral ng fin swimming, magpasexy lalo," Anne said.

Starting the year right

2013 was tough for Anne. It will be recalled that she got a lot of flak for getting involved in a slapping incident that affected fellow celebrities.

Now that she is opening 2014 with "Dyesebel," Anne is more optimistic about what lies ahead.

She has two leading men -- Sam Milby and Gerald Anderson -- who will play the merman Liro and Fredo, respectively.

Before Anne’s name came out, several actresses, like Kim Chiu (she issued a denial), Julia Montes and Jessy Mendiola, were tagged as possible choices for Dyesebel.
