Sam Rockwell in the midst of angry spirits in 'Poltergeist'

Under extreme and extraordinary circumstances, Sam Rockwell stars along with Rosemarie DeWitt and Jared Harris in “Poltergeist,” a story of an ordinary family dealing with unexpected house guests in their newly bought home. Set in America’s nondescript suburbs, the young family-of-five move into a new home only to find it possessed by angry poltergeists. When these angry spirits abduct their youngest daughter, Madison, they recruit a team of scientists and psychics – including the clairvoyant reality star Carrigan Burke (Harris) - to get her back.

Both “Poltergeist”and the 1982 original give audiences a rollercoaster ride of thrills and fright with a story about the abduction of a family’s youngest child by supernatural and increasingly hostile forces. The rest of the clan then wages a gruelling battle to get her back safely. But the new film updates the story’s perspective, place and characters.

Unlike the original “Poltergeist,” which was set in a comfortable economic time during the 1980s, this film is situated in the rapidly fading, disenfranchised American ideal we know as suburbia. A rundown, cookie-cutter community of three-bedroom homes, unkempt yards and chain link fences in an Illinois neighborhood sets the scene for the unsuspecting protagonists, the Bowen family. It reminds audiences that life in suburbia can sometimes be a long way from comfort and safety.

This startling turn of events impacts all family members, especially Eric and Amy. Their terror and emotions are brought to life by two of today’s most respected actors, Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt. “You kind of expect a father is going to act a certain way in this situation,” says executive producer J.R. Young, “but Sam Rockwell’s unexpected choices in playing the role feel especially honest. He's brilliant and plays this role with grit, emotion, and humor. We're lucky to have him as the head of this family.”

Rockwell brings to light the difficult circumstances this young family faces. “Eric is having a really hard time and feels emasculated by losing his job, and that he's no longer a good provider,” Rockwell explains. “He’s still clinging to a materialism, which is why he does things like buying the kids expensive toys he can't afford. His wife Amy is much more in tune with the disconnection in their family, and how that affects the children.”

Sam Rockwell has emerged as one of the most dynamic actors of his generation by continuing to take on challenging roles in both independent and studio productions. Rockwell was recently seen in Lynn Shelton’s “Laggies,” opposite Keira Knightley and Chloƃ« Grace Moretz. He was also featured in “The Way, Way Back,” Throughout his career, Rockwell has created memorable and diverse characters. His film credits include Tony Goldwyn's “Conviction,” “Iron Man 2,” “Cowboys and Aliens,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “The Green Mile,” “Galaxy Quest,” “Seven Psychopaths” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” are only a few of his long list of memorable roles to date.

Spirit hunting starts when “Poltergeist” opens June 24 in cinemas nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Celebrity Lawyer Lorna Kapunan Tests Waters If She'd Be A Senatoriable

CELEBRITY LAWYER Lorna Kapunan (who handles celebs like Coco Martin, James Yap, Hayden Kho) had a tete-a-tete with members of the entertainment press. "This is not to tell you that I'm running but to ask how you feel, kung ano ba ang pulso nyo, kung sakali ngang I will run for the senate," she says.

We tell her name recall is very important and among lawyers today who handle celebrity cases like the Fortuns, Alentajan and Topacio, who does she think has the most name recall? "Ako," she says quickly, without batting an eyelash.

Politics can be dirty. Is she ready for intrigues, muckraking and death threats? "I have nothing to fear as I have no skeletons in my closet. Bale wala ang death threats as long as you have a clear conscience. Ni wala nga akong security o kahit alalay na tagadala ng bag. I only have my driver. Basta I have only one rule. Do not touch my children, because I will kill for my children."

Atty. Lorna was married to former Judge Ed Roden Kapunan, her classmate in UP Law School, who succumbed to colon cancer in 2001. They have five sons, the eldest, Lino, 40 years old, is now a partner at her law firm. Her youngest son succumbed to leukemia when he was 8 years old Two other sons are also lawyers and another one is an architect. She is candid enough to admit she has found a new "sweetie pie", Jimmy Regalado. "He's an ex-communist na naging economist and now, poltical analyst. We met when we both became presidents of the Rotary club. Nine years na kami."

She's the first ever teen Muslim to join the reality show, and she's going inside the PBB house during Ramadan.

When asked why she thinks she was chosen among thousands of auditionees, the 13-year-old said that maybe they picked her so she can show the ways of a traditional Muslim, something that has not been done inside the famous yellow house.
