Susan Cooper may be out of her element. But not out of her league. Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) is an unassuming, deskbound CIA analyst, and the unsung hero behind the Agency’s most dangerous missions. But when her partner (Jude Law) falls off the grid and another top agent (Jason Statham) is compromised, she volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent a global disaster.
Blessed with freakish memory, Cooper labors in a dreary sub-basement office, serving as the eyes and ears (and pining for the heart) of super agent Bradley Fine – a charming but self-absorbed fop who manages to complete his missions while keeping every hair in place.
In latching onto her first spy mission, McCarthy’s Susan Cooper must first let go of insecurity and self-doubt while mustering the nerve to abandon her desk at Langley (CIA Headquarters) to tangle with an assortment of well-quaffed European baddies.
Says McCarthy: “Susan’s always had ability, and is great technically and tactically, but she lacked confidence. Now her field experiences and loyalty to Jude’s character, Bradley Fine, begin to bring out her full potential. She discovers talents she didn’t know she had.”
Teaming with Melissa McCarthy for the third time, following their smash hits “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat,” writer-director Paul Feig this time adds a planeload of action to their trademark comedy and sets the story in gorgeous European locales. The bustling, unfamiliar environments of such famed capitals as Rome, Paris and Budapest add to Susan’s disorienting transition into the cloak-and-dagger fieldwork of international espionage.
In developing a palette for the film, Feig, along with director of photography Robert Yeoman and production designer Jefferson Sage, was inspired by James Bond movies. They set out to make a comedy in the visual style of those iconic films, with sweeping shots, striking backdrops and convincing action sequences. Yeoman says, “Typically in comedies the lighting is bright and flat, but Paul wanted it darker, with more contrast, to emphasize some of the danger and risks in the shadowy world of espionage. There is a big scope to the location shots.”
“Spy” shot primarily in Budapest, Hungary, which also doubles for Rome and Paris. The city’s striking and varied architecture allowed Sage to utilize interesting landmarks and unique neighborhood characteristics to distinguish between the three capitals. Buda, located on the west side of the Danube, is hilly, with winding cobblestone streets that provide an effective cheat for Rome. Meanwhile, abundant natural trees and vegetation effectively serve to soften the location backdrops for Paris, which filmmakers wanted keep lighter and wider in tonality.
“Spy” opens May 21 from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

A president’s life is under the protection of a 13-year-old village boy in the latest big-budget action film “Big Game” starring Samuel L. Jackson, Onni Tommila, Ray Stevenson and Ted Levine directed by Jalmari Helander.
In the tradition of worldwide blockbuster films about the president at the center of terrorists’ target such as “Air Force One,” “Big Game” introduces us to a young boy named Oskari (Tommila) who anxiously awaits his fate according to their family’s tradition until one fateful day that he has to face his most daunting challenge yet.
Oskari, a timid teenager, has come to spend one day and one night alone in the wilderness as dictated by their family’s tradition. Like his forefathers, armed with only a bow and arrow, he must return with a prize to prove himself a man. Terrified and alone, he wanders through a vast and unforgiving forest when suddenly, he hears a deafening rumble.
Racing to investigate, Oskari discovers an escape pod. Not just any escape pod – this pod belongs to Air Force One and the battered and bruised man lying before him is the President (Jackson) of the United States. In the skies above, terrorists are hurtling their way to the crash site, hell-bent on kidnapping the President. Now, the fate of the most powerful man in the world lies in the hands of Oskari. Plunged into a deadly game of cat and mouse, with only hours to spare, Oskari and the President must team up to survive the most extraordinary night of their lives.
Director and writer Jalmari Helander first came to international attention with his quirky Father Christma s-based Finnish fold adventure “Rare Exports,” but has always loved action movies. With “Big Game,” his idea was to create a high-octane romp that would provide the visceral thrill of high-concept genre entries like “Die Hard” and “Taken,” but also interweave themes from iconic rite-of-passage 8-‘s films such as “E.T.” and “The Karate Kid.” In short, he wanted to make an action movie with a soul.
“Big Game” reunites Helander with his “Rare Exports” producer Petri Jokiranta who explained that, after their previous breakout success, they were looking to do something bigger, but with the same dark Finnish sense of humour.
““Big Game” is an action adventure story and I’m delighted to be taking this genre on as it has always been very close to my heart, as action-packed adventure stores contain the elements that I believe make movies that are worth watching,” noted Helander.
Prepare for a thrilling chase when “Big Game” when it opens April 15 in theatres nationwide from Pioneer Films.

ABS-CBN still remains undisputed in national TV viewership in March as it hit an average national audience share of 42%, which is seven percentage points higher compared to GMA’s 35%, based on data from Kantar Media.
Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while the other ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen reportedly has only 1,980 homes based solely in urban areas that represent only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.
The primetime block (6PM-12MN) of the Kapamilya network maintained its strength with an average audience share of 48%. It is 16 points higher compared to the 32% of GMA. The primetime block is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers effectively.
ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida continues to soar higher through its top-caliber drama series, including the recently concluded “Bagito” and “Two Wives,” and the newly launched “Bridges of Love” and “Inday Bote.”
“Two Wives” ended on a high note with an average national TV rating of 23.4%, compared to its rival program in GMA “Second Chances” (13.5%). “Bagito” also ended strongly with an average national TV rating of 17.4%, compared to GMA’s “Future’s Choice” (9.3%).
On the other hand, “Bridges of Love,” which took over of “Two Wives,” triumphantly won its timeslot with an average national TV rating of 22.9%, compared to the latter’s same rival program. The newest TV remake of Pablo Gomez’ “Inday Bote” was also off to a good start after garnering an average national TV rating of 19%, which is higher compared to GMA’s “My Love From the Star” (11.3%).
Leading the list of the most watched shows in the Philippines are “Dream Dad” (33.1%), “Forevermore” (32.4%), “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (28.1%), “TV Patrol” (26.7%), and “Rated K” (23.7%).
Aside from primetime, ABS-CBN’s daytime block also continued to win in the ratings game, led by Prime-Tanghali’s “Oh My G” (16.2%) and “It’s Showtime” (14.4%).
Meanwhile, Kapamilya viewers gave their all-out support to “The Voice of the Philippines” Season 2 until the end, as its grand finals night episode on March 1 scored a national TV rating of 30.8%.
ABS-CBN’s newest hit variety show “Your Face Sounds Familiar” also debuted as one of the top 10 most watched programs in the country with an average national TV rating of 26.6%. It won against its two rival programs “Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho” (22.6%) and “Celebrity Bluff” (16.3%).

Buboy Villar stars as the young Manny Pacquiao in the upcoming movie, "Kid Kulafu," which is about the Filipino boxing champion's humble beginnings.
As the trailer says, you don't really know Pacquiao until you see this movie which opens in cinemas April 15, 2015, just a couple of weeks before the Pinoy pride's fight with American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Here's the movie's trailer:
We usually see Buboy in funny, supporting roles on GMA-7. Currently, he is in the cast of the afternoon series "Half Sisters" as one of the friends of the main character. And who can forget that spaghetti sauce commercial he did as a kid?
He got the lead role in "Kid Kulafu," though, which can be considered his biggest break so far. Thanks to director Paul Soriano who saw his potentials.
According to the director, Buboy didn't know he was auditioning for a Pacquiao role until he got the part.
Buboy was also commended for his hard work. Two months before they start shooting, the young actor was already working with the movie's fight instructor to learn how to move like Pacquiao.
Also in the cast of the movie are Alessandra de Rossi as Pacquiao's mother, and Cesar Montano as the uncle who introduced Pacquiao to boxing and named him Kid Kulafu.
Produced by Ten17, "Kid Kulafu" is distributed by Star Cinema.
SNSD are dropping their feminine image for the meantime to give you a very cool appearance in their upcoming Korean single ‘Catch Me if You Can’.
A sumptuous period thriller encompassing themes of power, love, betrayal and murder, “Child 44” is novelist Tom Rob Smith’s fictionalized version of the grisly case that was met with resounding critical and popular acclaim upon publication in 1998. Real-life serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, also known as “The Butcher of Rostov,” was convicted of murdering and mutilating 52 women and children in Soviet Russia in the early 1950s.
Winner of the Crime Writers Association’s CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger award and translated into 26 languages, “Child 44” became the first in a trilogy that now includes “The Secret Speech” and “Agent 6.”
“The great thing about detective stories and police investigations is they soak up a lot of the society in which they take place,” Smith says. “If you want to understand a world, take a look at the way the police work in that country.”
“Child 44” continued to be translated to screen, produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Daniel Espinosa where the filmmakers saw an opportunity to blend visceral action sequences with psychologically nuanced character arcs against a rich historic tapestry.
A politically-charged serial killer thriller set in 1953 Soviet Russia, “Child 44” chronicles the crisis of conscience for secret police agent Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy), who loses status, power and home when he refuses to denounce his own wife, Raisa (Noomi Rapace), as a traitor. Exiled from Moscow to a grim provincial outpost, Leo and Raisa join forces with General Mikhail Nesterov (Gary Oldman) to track down a serial killer who preys on young boys. Their quest for justice threatens a system-wide cover-up enforced by Leo’s psychopathic rival Vasili (Joel Kinnaman), who insists “There is no crime in Paradise.”
To anchor an adventure of such grand historical scope, the filmmakers needed an actor capable of handling the script’s demanding emotional and physical range, from quiet dramatic moments to brutal action sequences. They also needed someone who could subtly express the protagonist’s inner conflicts as he struggles to find his humanity in an inhuman situation.
They found their Leo Demidov in British actor Tom Hardy. Regarded as one of the most charismatic talents of his generation, Hardy impressed moviegoers as a violent convict in Bronson, then broke through to a global audience with his portrayal of the evil Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. More recently he earned both critical and popular acclaim for his role as a Brooklyn bartender with a dark secret in The Drop. Hardy says he was attracted to the project by the moral complexity of his character—and the script as a whole.
If politics are ultimately personal, then “Child 44” can be seen as a cautionary tale from a nightmarish chapter of history: tyrannical political cultures stifle fundamentally decent people with tragic results
“Child 44” opens exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide starting April 29 from Pioneer Films.
