Bb Pilipinas 2015 host Toni Gonzaga received mixed-to-bad reviews for
her Bb Pilipinas 2015 hosting stint last Sunday
Toni Gonzaga, along with Xian Lim, hosted the 52nd Binibining
Pilipinas (Bb Pilipinas 2015) Grand Coronation Night, where crowned
winners were Pia Wurtzbach as Bb Pilipinas Universe, Janicel Lubina as
Bb Pilipinas International, Christi McGarry as Bb Pilipinas
Intercontinental, Rogelie Catacutan as Binibining Pilipinas
Supranational and Ann Colis as Bb Pilipinas Tourism
While Xian Lim received mostly positive reviews, particularly with the
way he modulated his voice while introducing the candidates, Toni
Gonzaga on one hand got criticized by netizens for the way she hosted
the Bb Pilipinas pageant, especially during the Q&A round, where she
tried to make fun and throw some jokes, probably her way to lighten up
that nerve-wracking moment. Many felt she was like hosting PBB (Pinoy
Big Brother), and not BBP (Binibining Pilipinas). Even former Bb
Pilipinas titlist Nina Ricci Alagao also made a negative comment about
it via Facebook: "stick to PBB hosting, not Bb Pilipinas".
John Marlon Pablo (@jomarpabl0): "Toni made some girls look stupid in
Q&A in front of the world watching... Bb Pilipinas event is not for
her. Go back to PBB @imToniGonzaga"
Dandreb James Arro (@deejayisawriter): "I love Toni G. but watching
how she handled #BbPilipinas2015 Q&A rounds is very inappropriate.
Parang joke lang. Leave it at PBB."
Even in my blog post containing live updates from the pageant, Toni
also got harsh criticisms:
mxyz: "#tonigonzaga_ksp. A joke or two would be nice, especially if
they are witty. But making fun of contestants or how they speak,
considering she herself commits grammatical errors, is below the belt.
She went overboard and acted as if the pageant is her show."
Joefrey Robosa: "...parang ordinaryong Miss Gay lang ang Binibining
Pilipinas kagabi. Grabe sa ka-okrayan si Toni Gonzaga sa mga
candidates, akala mo kung sinong maganda at magaling, eh hindi nga
nya alam ang kaibahan ng 'extraordinary' sa 'extraordinaire' habang
ini-introduce nya ang mga judges. Akala nya siguro eh nasa 'The Buzz'
siya, o kung saang cheapipay na programa ng
ABS-CBN. Next time, Madam Stella, kumuha ka naman ng medyo mahusay
mag-emcee, hindi kung sino na lang, para naman mag-mukhang class ang
pageant mo..."
On 'Aquino & Abunda Tonight' last night, Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino,
who also co-hosts with Toni on 'The Buzz', defended the multi-awarded
TV host's style of hosting at Bb Pilipinas. According to the two, Toni
did a good job hosting the pageant. "It wasn't a perfect hosting, but
Toni did a great job," Boy said.
I actually feel sad for Toni. I loved how she looked so gorgeous like
a beauty queen in her blue gown. In fact, I even tweeted about how
great-looking she and Toni are that evening. But it was her style of
hosting which is being talked about more and making headlines.
Toni isn't actually the only one heavily bashed by netizens. Miss
Universe 2013 3rd Runner Up Ariella Arida also didn't escape
criticisms, because of her not-so-good diction. The UP graduate, a Cum
Laude, just took it easy and simply said sorry: "Pasensya na mga
madam!!! Love you all!!", she said via Twitter (@araarida).
