'Girls Gone Wild' Case Closed, Tamara Favazza Wins $5.4 Million Case


The company that makes Girls Gone Wild DVDs is seeking to overturn a verdict awarding $5.4 million to a US woman who claims her bare breasts were recorded without permission.

St Louis Circuit Judge John Garvey last month sided with Tamara Favazza in her suit against Mantra Films Inc and MRA Holdings LLC, awarding her $5.4 million. She was a 20-year-old college student in 2005 when someone lifted her tank top during a party at a St Louis bar, exposing her breasts. Another person filmed it. She later discovered the recording was part of the Girls Gone Wild Sorority Orgy DVD series.

Favazza claimed in the suit originally filed in 2008 that she did not give consent and the resulting DVD damaged her reputation. A St Louis jury sided with the DVD makers in 2010, but a retrial was granted.

Garvey issued his ruling on March 5. On Wednesday, the defendants filed motions asking that the judgment be set aside and a new trial granted.

Jeffrey Medler, a lawyer for Favazza, said he will "vigorously oppose" any effort to overturn the ruling.

Several messages left with David Dalton, the last listed lawyer for Mantra Films and MRA Holdings were not returned. Phone calls to Mantra Films' office in California went unanswered.

Girls Gone Wild videos and DVDs, featuring young women exposing themselves on camera, have made a fortune for founder Joe Francis. But he has been targeted with dozens of lawsuits from women who said they were upset at being filmed. Francis was originally named in Favazza's suit but was dismissed from the case in 2009.

The video was made at a bar then known as the Rum Jungle near the St Louis riverfront. Earlier court testimony indicated that a woman acting as a contractor for Girls Gone Wild pulled down Favazza's shirt at the shoulder strap, exposing her breasts.

Favazza, now a 26-year-old wife and mother, claimed that she only became aware of her appearance in the video when a friend of her husband pointed it out. She sued soon after learning she was in the video.

Tommy Marth Suicide Happened in Las Vegas


Thomas "Tommy" Marth, the 33-year-old saxophonist for The Killers was found dead at his Las Vegas home Monday morning.

According to investigation, Marth died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He is survived by his parents and two siblings - an older brother and a younger sister.

On Monday, the band tweeted: "Last night we lost our friend Thomas Marth. Our prayers are with his family. There's a light missing in Las Vegas tonight. Travel well, Tommy."

Marth played saxophone on two of the Las Vegas-based band's albums, Sam's Town and Day & Age, and also toured with The Killers in 2008 and 2009.

KUYA KIM, BINALIKAN ANG APAT NA PINAKAMAPANGAHAS NA ADVENTURE SA “MATANGLAWIN”

Sa ikaapat na anibersaryo ng "Matanglawin" binalikan ni Kuya Kim ang kanyang apat na pinakamapangahas, pinakamabangis at katangi-tanging karanasan sa apat na taon na paghahatid niya ng impormasyon at kasiyahan sa mga Pinoy.

Isa rito ang paglangoy niya sa dagat ng basura sa Pasig River para lang maipakita ang labis na dumi nito. Sariwang sariwa sa alaala ni Kuya Kim ang duming sinuot sa ngalan lang ng pagbabahagi ng kaalamaan.

MAGICAL ‘TAIL’ NI "ARYANA" MAGBIBIGAY KULAY SA ABS-CBN PRIMETIME BIDA

Magbubukas na ang kapanapanabik na kuwento ng pinakabagong fantaserye magbibigay kulay sa ABS-CBN Primetime Bida, ang "Aryana" na pagbibidahan ng 2008 FAMAS Best Child Actress na si Ella Cruz.

Tunghayan sa Mayo 7 (Lunes) ang pagsisimula ng adventure na batang si Aryana (Ella) na mababago ang takbo ng buhay sa pagsapit ng kanyang ika-14 na kaarawan, kung kailan nakatakdang maisakatuparan ang sumpang ibinigay sa kaniya--ang pagiging isang serena.

Ayon kay Ella, isang 'dream come true' para sa kanya ang maging bida sa isang teleserye ng ABS-CBN. "Bata pa ako, gusto ko nang maging artista. Tapos noong sumisikat na sila Ate Julia (Montes) at Kathryn (Bernardo), sinabi ko sa sarili ko na balang araw gusto ko ring magkaroon ng teleserye sa Primetime Bida," ani ng dating "Goin' Bulilit" child star na mas tumatak kamakailan sa mga manonood bilang batang Cristine Reyes sa top-rating drama series na "Dahil sa Pag-ibig."

Ibinahagi rin ng batang aktres na ikasisiya ng buong pamilya ang kuwento ni "Aryana" at ang mga karakter sa kanyang dalawang mundo--ang mundo ng mga tao at mundo ng mga sirena. Kuwento niya, "Makakapulot din ang TV viewers ng iba't ibang aral tungkol sa pamilya, pag-ibig at kalikasan."
