TFC "Barrio Fiesta sa London" Records All-Time High Crowd
The annual “Barrio Fiesta sa London” in the United Kingdom (UK) continues to hit the mark as the biggest Filipino event outside the homeland as over tens of thousands of Pinoys trooped to the Apps Court Farm near Hampton Court, Walton-on Thames in July for homegrown festivities and entertainment they surely missed.
Tens of thousands of Pinoys in the UK and nearby cities filled the Apps Court Farm, a venue much larger than last year’s Lampton Park, on July 21 and 22. As early as dawn, kababayans started filling the park venue for a chance to see their favorite Kapamilya stars and for a taste of food and fiesta from the country they call home.
Bannering the “29th Barrio Fiesta sa London” on day 1 was one of the Philippines’ biggest love teams , Kim Chiu and Xian Lim who thrilled both the young and young-at-heart with their rendition of breakthrough artist Jireh Lim’s viral hit “Buko.” Joining the love team was another viral hit Blake who sang their biggest covers to date.
Providing entertainment for both dates were “Queen of Teleserye Theme Songs” Angeline Quinto and “Be Careful With My Heart” beloved yaya, Doris “Tart” Carlos. Carlos who was feverish then, performed to the hilt, not showing the slightest hint of feeling a bit under the weather.
Highlighting the second, equally successful day 2 was the presence of much-talked about stars Vice Ganda, Maja Salvador and Richard Gomez. Box office phenomenon and multi-talented artist Vice Ganda left the crowd in stitches with his comic flair. Gomez from the equally phenomenal “Walang Hanggan” thrilled the female crowd as he sung the teleserye’s theme song with the same title. Meantime, Salvador shared a peek of her 10th anniversary concert which she first performed back in Manila, much to the delight of fans.
The crowd went wild as Lim, Quinto, Salvador, and Gomez came down from the high stage to get closer to the crowd.
Vice Ganda and Salvador also pulled lucky audience members to the stage. Aside from these opportunities, raffle winners of TFC’s event promo were treated to exclusive meet and greets with the stars as well as gift packs and discounts from TFC and myREMIT.
As part of the Filipino cultural showcase, Philippine Centre members and local talents, including TFCKat Europe finalists, performed songs and dances from home. Meantime, authentic Filipino food and aroma filled colorful booths at the area.
Managing Director for ABS-CBN Europe Ltd. (official distributor of ABS-CBN content in the continent) Edgardo Garcia said: “We at TFC and Philippine Centre were both expecting this year’s ‘Barrio Fiesta sa London’ to continue the tradition of Filipino fiesta for a massive crowd but we were pleasantly surprised to see that the annual event has broken new records once again. While this raises the bar for future ‘barrio fiestas,’ this challenge provides us the opportunity to explore more ways to give the annual tradition a whole new twist to excite our Filipino audience.”
Vice-Chairman of the Philippine Centre Board and Hermano Mayor Joseph Parinas, said: “We did it in 2012 and we did it again this year. Since we started, the ‘Barrio Fiesta sa London’ has ceaselessly improved through time. This year, we are more than happy to be doing this again with Kapamilyas who have once again proven that we joined the right family – TFC. We look forward to more ‘barrio fiestas’ with TFC.”
The “Barrio Fiesta sa London” is part of TFC and Philippine Centres’ continuing partnership to bring the best of the Filipino to Kapamilyas in Europe. Catch Chiu on “Wanspanataym” and ASAP 18,” Quinto and Salvador on “ASAP 18,” Carlos on “Be Careful With My Heart,” and Vice Ganda at “Gandang Gabi Vice” and “Showtime” plus Gomez and Lim’s recently concluded teleseryes on TFC’s official online service TFCtv. "Ilo Ilo" is Singapore's Entry to Oscars Award 2013
A movie that centers on an Iloilo-born domestic helper in Singapore is the country's official entry to the 86th Academy Awards, marking the third submission that chronicles stories of Filipinos to the prestigious film industry event.
Directed by filmmaker Anthony Chen, "Ilo Ilo" has been selected by the Singapore Film Commission (SFC) as the country's submission to compete in the 2014 Oscars' Best Foreign Language Film category. The film, according to Singaporean news outfit The Straits Times, was chosen "for its excellence in execution and performance, accentuated by a thought-provoking storyline," quoting SFC head Yeo Chun Cheng. "Ilo Ilo," which kicked off its commercial run in Singapore early this month, is inspired by the real-life relationship of Chen and his Filipina nanny, Teresita Sajonia.
Portrayed by Filipina actress Angeli Bayani, "Auntie Terry," as recounted on-screen, served at a time when the Asian financial crisis was in full swing in 1997, providing a backdrop to her forming ties with the boy she tends to.
It also stars Singapore's Yeo Yann Yann, Chen Tianwen, newcomer Koh Jia Ler.
The film debuted to critical acclaim, and even won the Camera d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival, marking the first time a Singaporean feature won the award. - ABS-CBNNews.com

“We're The Millers” Drives Past $200-M at the Worldwide Box Office
“We're The Millers” Drives Past $200-M at the Worldwide Box Office
Continuing its successful run at the box office, New Line Cinema’s smash hit comedy “We’re the Millers” has surpassed $200 million at the worldwide box office. The announcement was made by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. The film has grossed an estimated $206 million globally, and still climbing.
“We’re the Millers” has taken in an estimated $132.6 million domestically and is still going strong. Internationally, the film has grossed $73.4 million, opening at #1 in key European markets such as Germany and breaking records in Russia, where it has become the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time. Major markets set to release in the coming weeks include Spain, France and Brazil.
Fellman stated, “‘We’re the Millers’ has demonstrated terrific playability from coast to coast, and the phenomenal word of mouth has kept the weekly drops notably low and the attendance consistently high. We congratulate our partners at New Line, as well as director Rawson Marshall Thurber and the terrific cast, led by the tremendously talented Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston.”
Kwan Vandenberg noted, “The international rollout has been fantastic, with number one openings and powerful holds. International audiences have responded in a big way to the film’s outrageous humor, and the chemistry of Jennifer and Jason and the entire cast. We join New Line in congratulating Rawson and his cast and crew on crossing this exciting benchmark.”
From New Line Cinema comes the action comedy “We’re the Millers,” starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis under the direction of Rawson Marshall Thurber.
David Clark (Sudeikis) is a small-time pot dealer whose clientele includes chefs and soccer moms, but no kids - after all, he has his scruples. So what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious reasons, he learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when he tries to help out some local teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter punks. Stealing his stash and his cash, they leave him in major debt to his supplier, Brad (Ed Helms).
In order to wipe the slate clean - and maintain a clean bill of health - David must now become a big-time drug smuggler by bringing Brad’s latest shipment in from Mexico. Twisting the arms of his neighbors, cynical stripper Rose (Aniston) and wannabe customer Kenny (Will Poulter), as well as streetwise teen Casey (Emma Roberts), he devises a foolproof plan. One fake wife, two pretend kids and a huge, shiny RV later, the “Millers” are headed south of the border for a Fourth of July weekend that is sure to end with a bang.
The film also stars Emma Roberts, Nick Offerman, Kathryn Hahn, Will Poulter and Ed Helms.
Now playing across the Philippines, “We’re the Millers” is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
Smart Twitter Zoom Excites, Surprises and Gives Away "Rihanna" Concert Tickets to Lucky Netizens #SmartMusicRihanna
Smart Twitter Zoom Excites, Surprises and Gives Away "Rihanna" Concert Tickets to Lucky Netizens #SmartMusicRihanna
Hundreds of Rihanna fans all over Metro Manila raced against each other and chased their “idol” to grab a couple of limited premium tickets to Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour held last September 19 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Mobile leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), through its largest online music store Smart Music opened the Rihanna Twitter Zoom contest days before the popstar’s Manila concert, encouraging fans to score free tickets by participating in an interactive online game.
Twitter Zoom is an online hunt where Smart subscribers got the chance to win premium Rihanna concert tickets just by registering at Smart Music, following @SMARTCares and @SMARTPromos on Twitter and tweeting the hashtag, #SmartMusicRihanna. For every 500 hastags, the online map zoomed in, leading to the locations of the concert tickets given by a Rihanna look-alike.
Fans and onlookers alike were surprised to see contest participants making a mad dash to the Rihanna look-alike awaiting the Smart Twitter follower who can give her the correct password in exchange of concert tickets.
Smart’s hit Twitter contest also gave away tickets during Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry’s Manila concert tours.
“When we introduced Smart Music, we promised to provide our subscribers not just the most affordable music tracks but the total music experience. From downloads, to exciting fan events and access to the biggest concerts, Smart Music is the all-in-one portal for the true blue music lover,” said Mellissa Limcaoco, head of Smart’s Innovation and Product Development group.
The Rihanna Twitter Zoom promo excited many fans of the singers who wanted to experience her concert for free. Netizens flooded Twitter with the #SmartMusicRihanna hashtag, eager to join the unique contest that’s frar from the ordinary Twitter promo.
“Idek but @SMARTPromos got the coolest, craziest and out-of-this-world promo strategies! applause to the team,” said Twitter user @jiiensam.
Other Twitter users applied equally unique strategies to make sure they get the much coveted tickets.
“Nung gabi pa lang, nagbabantay na ko ng Twitter,” said John Paulo Baticulon, winner of the first leg of Twitter Zoom at SM Fairview. “So yung ate ko yung naiwan sa bahay para magbantay ng tweets tapos ako yung tumakbo all the way here. Gusto ko talagang mapanood si Rihanna up close. Parang soundtrack na kasi ng buhay ko yung mga songs niya. So thank you, Smart, for giving this gift to me.”
Along with Baticulon, the other two lucky winners of premium Rihanna concert tickets were Jay Mark Isais who went all the way from a class in the University of Santo Tomas to SM Megamall; and Julius Provido, who braved the night’s rain to finish the last leg at the SM Mall of Asia, coming all the way from his work at Quezon City.
“Nung sinabi na clue ay ‘heart of Manila,’ kumuha na agad ako ng taxi papuntang Megamall, kahit traffic. Then I was using my Smart LTE for monitoring the tweets” Isais said. “Nung nalaman kong may ganitong Twitter Zoom, hindi ko na siya pinalampas. Sobrang idol ko kasi talaga si Rihanna. Her songs really inspire me more.” Rihanna fans can also download her music for as low as P10 using their prepaid load or charged to their postpaid bill at smart.com.ph/music, along with over three million other songs from the Smart Music catalog.
Distance was not an issue for John Paulo Baticulon, the winner of the first leg of the Smart Twitter Zoom. At 6 a.m., he already left Las Piñas and went all the way to SM Fairview. His sister was the one monitoring the tweets while he was going to the location.
Jay Mark Isais was in a class in his class in the University of Sto. Tomas when the clue was given that second location will be at the “heart” of Manila. With only his determination and a tablet powered by Smart LTE, he maneuvered his way to SM Megamall amidst the heavy traffic and won the second pair of Rihanna premium concert tickets.
As much as Julius Provido wanted to join the first two legs, his work schedule won’t allow him to do so. But when hope came and he found out that the last location of the Smart Twitter Zoom is in the SM Mall of Asia, immediately after his work, he rode the train and braved the rains from North to South, earning him a pair Rihanna tickets.

Mark Wahlberg Goes Undercover in “2 Guns”
Mark Wahlberg Goes Undercover in “2 Guns”
Mark Wahlberg outguns his rivals in TriStar Pictures’ “2 Guns,” in which he stars as Navy Petty Officer Michael “Stig” Stigman, a fast-talking sharpshooter who is as awkwardly charming as he is cunning.
In the film, Stig has served the Navy honourably for more than a decade. But when he does six months in the brig after attacking a military police officer, Stig is drafted into one of the Navy’s shadier ops and officially considered AWOL. He can maneuver in the dark, and he’s now dispensable if he decides to go off the Navy’s playbook.
The actor describes what drew him to the role: “The story goes back to those great buddy action comedies that I’ve always been a huge fan of. Stig’s that guy who just goes on impulse. Going into the bank heist, he and fellow undercover agent, Bobby (Denzel Washington), both been playing each other; neither has been completely honest about who they are or their motivations. Even though he’s playing Bobby, and Bobby’s playing him, Stig’s still honest about how he feels. He’s up for a good time, but if he gets rubbed the wrong way, he can go dark pretty quick.”
Although their mission has them planning to steal approximately $3 million of drug kingpin Papi Greco’s cash when we are introduced to the reluctant partners, Stig and Bobby get much more than they bargained for. When they open (read: blow up) the safety deposit boxes at Tres Cruces Savings & Loan, they discover more than $43 million - money that will most definitely be missed when they go on the run.
Wahlberg brings us up to speed with the moment when it all goes to hell with the agent and the operative: “After the heist is over, unfortunately it’s either Bobby or Stig, and Stig gets the upper hand. Stig doesn’t want to kill Bobby because he’s very fond of him, but he has a job to do. In the scuffle, Bobby’s DEA badge drops and Stig is upset - even though he’s been double-crossing Bobby - that Bobby had the nerve to double-cross him.”
Wahlberg was glad that the stars finally aligned for him and Denzel Washington to work together. Discussing Washington, he states: “We have great chemistry. We’ve known each other for a while, and this was the perfect piece of material for both of us to show a different side of ourselves. People would be very surprised to see how playful Denzel can be. I remember shooting our first scene, and every take I would do something completely different. He said, ‘Oh, I see what’s happening here,’ and he jumped right on board.” Wahlberg admits that he had a bit of an ulterior motive, and that was to get Washington to laugh. “There’s nothing better than seeing Denzel smile. Usually you get to see that once or twice in a movie; in this film, we see it a lot.”
From “Three Kings” to “Shooter,” Wahlberg has spent a good deal of time undergoing military-style training for his film career. “2 Guns” represents his latest effort, and he was up for the challenge. Wahlberg states that it was Stig’s commitment to his code that was most reflective of the military the performer has grown to know: “I had this mantra throughout the movie that I wrote on the front of my script, which was ‘duty, honor, loyalty and trust.’ Those things are very important to Stig; there isn’t anything that he wouldn’t do for his brothers, for his people.”
With this project and the upcoming epic “Lone Survivor,” Wahlberg shot two military-inspired films back to back. About his experience, he offers: “I went into Navy SEAL training immediately after shooting `2 Guns,’ and I’d been doing a lot of research into and reading about that world before this film. I’ve been lucky enough to have played military guys before, and I’ve had quite a bit of military training for other roles.”
Opening across the Philippines on September 25, “2 Guns” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Visit www.columbiapictures.com.ph to see the latest trailers, get free downloads and play free movie games.

Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Divine Lee, Maxene Magalona and Me Choose Clean, Proper Hygiene, Flawless!

Think that all skin clinics are created equal? Think again.
If you’re a fan of treatments offered at skincare centers, chances are you’ve been to a few and thus know that - price points and interiors aside - they are far from being the same, especially so when we talk about the rituals done before, during and after treatments. Hygiene is of course an issue, and one that the country’s preferred clinic for face, body and medical services, Flawless, takes very seriously.
“We know that hygiene is key to avoiding infections and maintaining the overall wellness of the skin,” shares Rubby Sy, Flawless’ CEO. “Needless to say, you can’t give your patients beautiful skin without superior hygienic practices. For this reason, we’ve decided to further improve our sanitary practices to put them at par with hospitals.”

Sharon Cuneta And Ogie Alcasid's Sunday Night Show Is Off To A Good Start But Can Stand Some Improvement
SHARON CUNETA and Ogie Alcasid’s initial episode for their Sunday night show, “The Mega and the Songwriter”, got mixed reviews in social media. But most of the negative comments is about the technical aspects of the show. There are those who felt that the set design is quite outdated and that the lighting is inadequate.
When it comes to the content, though, we ourselves believe it cannot be faulted. As hosts and singers, both Sharon and Ogieare at their best. They’re certainly top pros in what they’re doing. And to think Sharon is said to be not feeling so well when they taped the premiere episode. Obviously, they all had a good time that the running time of the show meant to be for one hour extended to almost up to two hours.
One segment that got good feedback is the show’s effort to give a break to aspiring singers who put their videos on Youtube. This is okay but we believe they should feature new singers only one at a time, not like what they did in the pilot show where there’s a bunch of them and not all are truly deserving.
Sharon and Ogie did a great job of doing their own version of Daniel Padilla’s “Nasa’yo na ang Lahat”. Their rendition is definitely much better than the original. The portion where they sang some requested songs is a gem, especially Sharon’s version of Adelle’s “Someone Like You”, as requested by her husband Sen. Kiko and their daughters.
Also very entertaining is Sharon singing Ogie’s songs, “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang”, “Pangako” and “Ikaw ang Pag-ibig”, while Ogie sang Sharon’s “To Love Again” and “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko”. If you’re looking for a show that’s a perfect way to cap your weekend, you can’t go wrong with the very relaxing and very entertaining “The Mega and the Songwriter” that airs Sundays at on TV5 so don’t miss it Sunday night at 9 PM.
Charice And Inamorata Alyssa Quijano Now Living Together In A New House She Bought
ONE OF THE segments in TV5’s new musical show, “The Mega and the Songwriter”, that got plenty of positive feedback is the duet of Charice and her ladylove, Alyssa Quijano. Alyssa first joined “Talentadong Pinoy” as part of a singing group before she became a solo contestant in “The X Factor” where she met Charice who’s one of the judges-mentors. Charice reveals that they’ve been on for almost a year now and, if they’d be given the chance, she wants to marry her in a same sex wedding.
“Dream come true for me yung day na naging kami,” she confesses. “The best ’yun sa akin dahil first time kong naipaglaban nang sobra ang taong mahal ko. This October, first anniversary na namin together. Ang malinaw sa akin, nakikita ko siya sa future ko. ’Di ko masasabing matagal pa, basta for me, she’s the one, siya na talaga.”
As of now, she has already bought a house and lot in Gulod, Cabuyao, Laguna where they plan to live together as permanent companions. It’s common knowledge that her mom Raquel rejects her relationship with Alyssa. How are they now?
“We’re okay, better than before na sobra ang tension. As of now, medyo kalmado na. I really miss her and my brother Carl. Silang family ko sa I will always love them.”
Roi Vinzon, from Retired Army to Priest in a New Kapuso Series
Roi Vinzon, from Retired Army to Priest in a New Kapuso Series
Actor Roi Vinzon, who plays as the homophobic retired army general Armando Soriano in the GMA primetime series “My Husband’s Lover,” was spotted this morning inside a studio at the GMA Network Center donning a habit (religious vestment) similar to the vestment worn by Dominican priests during the Spanish colonial era of this country’s history.
The action star has always been negatively typecast because of his past roles as drug lord, rapist, corrupt public official, criminal with a calloused conscience, among others.
Roi will be part of a yet confidential TV program, which will air this October.
Details of the said project will yet be revealed but from what we know so far, the cast will include a relatively new kapuso actor who is a relative of another popular actor from a different network and an established young actor who has been creating buzz lately in the independent film arena. The said actor is a member of a clan of revered actors although he uses a different family name.
Watch out for this TV program soon!
Meanwhile, as “My Husband’s Lover” nears its finale week, viewers are getting more and more hooked on the series.
Will Vincent end up with Lally, Eric or neither of the two? Watch “My Husband’s Lover” for the answer to this question from Monday to Friday, 9:30pm on GMA-7. The show’s finale episode will air on October 11 and a thanksgiving concert will be held the following day, October 12, at the Araneta Coliseum.
Tickets to the “One More Try: The MHL Concert” are available at all Ticketnet outlets and may also be purchased online at the Ticketnet website.
Richard Yap Album "Easy Listening" Released
Richard Yap Album "Easy Listening" Released
“Be Careful With My Heart” lead actor Richard Yap, who is well known by TV viewers as ‘Ser Chief,’ is thrilled over the launch of his first-ever recording album under Star Records.
“It is a dream-come-true because I’ve always wanted to sing since I was a kid,” said the other half of the ‘Ser Chief-Maya’ (Jodi Sta. Maria) love team. “I am thankful to our teleserye because through our official soundtrack, people discovered that I can sing.”
The actor shared that his self-titled debut album is just like their TV series–a feel-good, easy listening collection of tracks composed of nine revivals that were all chosen by ‘Ser Chief’ himself. The carrier single of the album is “Don’t Know What To Do, Don’t Know What To Say.”
“It covers all genres, from pop to ballad to alternative, appealing not only to music fans in my age group but also to the teens and in-betweens,” said Richard, who stressed that his album is entirely different from “Be Careful With My Heart” album. “This is very special for me because I put a lot of hard work in it so that we could come up with something that’s really worth paying for. I’m hoping that all of my supporters will love it too.”
Richard, who grew up listening to the music of Queen, Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers, Hall and Oates, Phil Collins, and Mike Francis, feels no pressure getting compared with other talented singers in the country.
“I don’t think there’s a need to compare because we have different musical choices and different target audiences,” he explained.
Featured in Richard’s solo debut album under Star Records are revivals of “Promise Ain’t Enough,” “Think I’m In Love Again,” “Can Find No Reason,” “You Take My Breath Away,” “Chasing Cars,” “High,” “Afterglow,” and the Chinese version of “Oh Babe.” The album also carries the bonus tracks “Please Be Careful With My Heart” and “Salamat.”
Richard’s first album is now available at all record bars nationwide for only P250. Digital tracks can also be downloaded via Amazon.com, Mymusicstore.com.ph and iTunes.

Heart Evangelista Admits She Dated Sid Lucero But They Were Never On
HEART EVANGELISTA says she didn’t take it against GMA-7 that she didn’t have a soap for half a year after she did “Forever” with Geoff Eigenmann. “Marami rin kasi akong ibang ginagawa, like ‘I Bilib’ with Chris Tiu and ‘Sunday All Stars’, then I’m shooting a new movie, ‘My Trophy Wife’, and Viva says I’ll start another one right after this, ‘Eternally’, so okay lang na hindi ako busy taping a soap,” she says.
She’s now paired anew in ‘Magkano ang Pag-big Mo’, which replaces “Maghihintay Sa Iyo”, with Sid Lucero who was linked to her when they did ‘Legacy’ on primetime. Didn’t her beau Sen. Chiz Escudero get jealous?
“No. When it comes to our work, we don’t meddle with each other. Walang problema kahit na-link sa’kin ang bagong kapareha ko. He knows Sid and I just dated but never na naging kami as I was not ready then for a new relationship. He understands my line of work and is just very supportive. Hindi lang naman ako kay Sid reunited in ‘Magkano ang Pag-ibig Mo’, but also with Alex de Rossi na nakasama rin namin sa ‘Legacy’ and with Isabel Oli na kasama ko naman sa ‘Forever’, kaya happy kami sa set.”
She’s also glad that whatever differences she has had with her parents have been patched up. “We’re okay now. My relationship with my parents is important to me. Life is short so you should be in good terms with your parents. As of now, basta tanggap na nila ang pagiging independent ko.”
