Derek Ramsay Officially Transfers to TV5

www.showbiznest.com

After Willie Revillame's shocking announcement during the "Wil Time Bigtime" live airing on Saturday, March 31, about Derek Ramsay's decision to leave the ABS-CBN in favor of TV5 and his upcoming own game show with the Kapatid network, the Kapamilya now releases a statement saying the news is true.

Derek Ramsay has decided to transfer to TV5.

For months, ABS-CBN has exerted efforts to make him stay as a Kapamilya. TV5, however, offered him an amount that was difficult for him to refuse. We thank Derek for the many years he has been with ABS-CBN,” Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Head, said in a statement.

Though, Derek will no longer be seen in any ABS-CBN TV shows, his contract with Star Cinema (a film outfit of ABS-CBN) will remain as he is set to do movies with them this year and next.

Kim Chiu and Enchong Dee Accident on ASAP - What Went Wrong?

www.showbiznest.com

Kim Chiu and Enchong Dee got involved in a minor accident during their Supahdance performance on ASAP 2012 last Sunday, March 25, 2012.

Watch the video below:

Although it's quite very obvious that it was all an accident (things like this always happen on stage) and no harm done for both Enchong and Kim (proof is the above photo of Kim posted at ASAP's official Twitter account (@ASAPOFFICIAL) telling her followers she's okay), fans watching the said production number were still caught in awe and disbelief. Some of them even posted their reactions online mostly blaming Enchong for what happened.

"OMG napanood ko to kahapon!!! napa aray ako sa ginawa nila! ulo ata ni kim ang tumama sa sahig!" - qwertyu

"hang bigat pala ni Queen Chiu! diring diri seguro si Enchong kasi vavae ang binuhat niya,...

kung nagkataong lalaki yon, kahit pa seguro si Xian Lim kayang kaya niyang buhatin!" - Marie_Juana

"hihihi...walang kain yata dyan si enchong dee....lol." - Ivory Brillas

"NAKAKALOKA TALAGA TO NUNG NAPANOOD KO. GRABE TALAGA SI ENCHONG, NAINNGIT KASI DI SIYA YUNG BINUBUHAT! CHARAUGHT!!!" - qwerty1234

"it was done LIVE..., the reason why it's so hard to perform and can't be edited..., people who contradicts Enchong Dee,,, well,,, better for you to know what an ACCIDENT is.., :-) :-)" - Candy Jane Ayala

Now, regardless of what or whoever to blame for the accident, what matters most is that both Kim and Enchong are safe and sound.

Tom Cruise is Stacee Jaxx in “Rock of Ages”

Tom Cruise is Stacee Jaxx in “Rock of Ages”

You've never seen or heard Tom Cruise like this before.

In New Line Cinema's “Rock of Ages,” next year's big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway jukebox musical that celebrates the '80s heyday of power ballads and glam metal, Cruise transforms into Stacee Jaxx, a superstar devotee of hair-band excess.

"His character has elements of Axl Rose, Keith Richards and Bret Michaels," says director Adam Shankman. "We did a huge amount of research on what people were going through in this period." He also relied on personal experience. "I knew a lot of these people because my dad was a music business manager."

It was Cruise, a fan of Shankman's version of “Hairspray” with John Travolta, who first approached him with the idea of doing a movie musical together. One problem: "But I couldn't think of what musical would work with him," the director says.

But after seeing Cruise dance with wife Katie Holmes as she sang “Whatever Lola Wants” at a charity event last year and pull off his comedy shtick as obnoxious producer Les Grossman in “Tropic Thunder” and on MTV, Shankman was convinced he might be right for the “Rock of Ages” front man.

"I thought, who better to play the biggest rock god in the world but the biggest movie star in the world?" Just to make sure, the actor's vocal chops were put to the test after some coaching. Turns out, "He has a huge voice."

Just as Shankman adjusted “Hairspray” when it went from stage to screen, so, too, has “Rock of Ages” undergone a makeover. "It is the exact same spirit. But the tone on Broadway was campier, which makes it difficult to connect to the characters. We raise the emotional stakes. We had to give it some weight."

That includes changing Jaxx from less of a predatory snake to more of a lost boy. "We made him what these guys are, man children," Shankman says. "Someone no one says no to. More of an innocent who does something wrong and doesn't know it."

While Cruise gets to belt out classics of the era such as Bon Jovi's “Wanted Dead or Alive,” Scorpions' “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and joins in a group performance of Journey's “Don't Stop Believin',” he also tackles a fair share of fancy footwork choreographed by Mia Michaels of TV's “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Says Shankman, "Does Tom dance? Let me put it this way. He is dancing so much, we are all exhausted and laying down on the floor. He is dancing us into the ground. I've never seen someone who wants to rehearse more."

Dolphy and His Current Medical Condition - Is He Truly Ok?

Dolphy and His Current Medical Condition - Is He Truly Ok?

King of Comedy Dolphy is very much alive, contrary to the rumors that circulated over the weekend.

False rumors of his alleged passing away spread widely on Saturday, March 9. But a close source has confirmed that Mang Dolphy, as he’s fondly called in showbiz circles, is currently recovering in his home.

Nene Riego, entertainment columnist and publicist of the Quizon family, confirmed this update on Mang Dolphy’s state of health to InterAksyon.com. Riego denied any truth to the rumor and called it malicious.

She said that over the years, reports of the King of Comedy’s purported demise continue to be meanly reported in the newspapers and on TV, and that Mang Dolphy’s camp weren’t surprised by last weekend’s story.

In a telephone interview, Riego said: “As of today, wala sa ospital, nasa bahay si Mang Dolphy at doon nagpapahinga. At saka kung talagang malala na ‘yung kalagayan niya, nasa ospital siya dapat, di ba? E, nasa bahay nga, eh.

So it’s not as serious as what people are saying or thinking about him. Saka nakikibalita rin ako kay Zsa Zsa (Padilla), according to her, ‘he’s coping’. So, anong ibig sabihin nu’n, di ba? Okay si Mang Dolphy.

Riego also got the chance to personally talk to the Comedy King’s cardiologist, Dr. Gary Lopez. “Very positive nga si Dr. Lopez, e, that he will recover. Saka kagagaling lang niDoc sa Europe, silang mag-asawa. Kung delikado ang lagay ni Mang Dolphy, hindi niya ‘yan iiwan.

Alam mo naman ang mga doktor sa kanilang pasyente, hindi basta aalis ng bansa ‘yan kung talagang alam nilang kailangang tutukan nang husto,di ba?

Riego admitted that Mang Dolphy has been in and out of the hospital due to his illness and has become weak. “Talagang down ang immune system niya ngayon. Saka let’s face it, Mang Dolphy is 83 years old, turning 84 on July 25.

With his condition, we cannot expect him to be like Wendell Ramos or Diether Ocampo.

Basta kumbaga, they’re on a day-to-day basis at tanggap na nila ang kondisyon ni Mang Dolphy.

Among those who would often visit the Comedy King in his home are his sons Ronnie Quizon, Epi Quizon, Vandolph, and Mang Dolphy’s grandson Boy 2 Quizon.

The publicist also clarified why Zsa Zsa fell into tears recently at the press conference of the teleserye “Budoy.” “Napaiyak siya dahil mami-miss daw niya yung mga kasama niya sa teleserye na naging very understanding sa kanya.

Minsan kasi dumarating siya sa set na wala pang tulog dahil galing siya kay Mang Dolphy, at naiintindihan daw ‘yon ng mga kasama niya. Kaya napaluha si Zsa Zsa.”

PBB Unlimited Winner Slater Young Trends on Twitter Worldwide

PBB Unlimited Winner Slater Young Trends on Twitter Worldwide

Slater Young, the “Hotshot Engineer from Cebu,” was proclaimed the Big Winner of “Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited” at the “PBB Unlimited: Big Night at the Grandstand” Saturday night (March 31) after garnering the highest percentage of votes in an overnight public poll against fellow Big Four contenders.

The 24-year old got an astounding 40.02% of the total number of text votes, making him the first male Big Winner of the regular edition of the country’s most successful reality show. He took home P2 million, an appliance showcase, an Asian tour package, an Internet TV, a water-refilling store franchise, and a special appearance in a Kapamilya program in the United States.

Pamu Pamorada of Batangas, meanwhile, was named the Second Big Placer after gaining 21.49% of the votes and won P1 million. Trailing by only 10 percentage points of the votes was Third Big Placer Joseph Biggel, who got 21.39% percent of the votes, while former house player and wildcard housemate Paco Evangelista came as the Fourth Big Placer with 17.10% of the votes. Biggel and Paco got P500,000 and P300,000 respectively.

After staying inside the famous Big Brother house for 155 days, the Big Four housemates successfully completed their final task to remain on a platform for 24 hours, which earned them P50,000 each to be donated to their chosen charities.

The successful Big Night ruled the trending topics on Twitter, with the term ‘Congrats Slater’ peaking at number one worldwide. In the Philippines, the hashtag #PBBTheBigNight was the most discussed on the micro-blogging site during the show and hours after it ended. Big Night-related terms that trended globally and locally on Twitter also included ‘Toni Gonzaga in PBBBigNight,’ ‘Iza Calzado,’ ‘El Gamma Penumbra,’ ‘Riggel,’ ‘Go Pamu,’ ‘Quirino Grandstand,’ ‘#PBBTeenEdition,’ ‘Slater or Pamu,’ ‘Hopeless Romantic,’ and ‘Name People,’ a phrase famously exclaimed by Slater at Paco during the M6 week.

The Big Night served as a grand celebration of Filipino talent and pride as it featured performances and appearances by the hosts, grand winners, and finalists of ABS-CBN’s talent and reality shows, including Kapamilya newbie Iza Calzado, Luis Manzano, Billy Crawford, Melai Cantiveros, Jason Gainza, Matt Evans, Bugoy Cariño, Devon Seron, El Gamma Penumbra, XB Gensan, and the ex-housemates of “PBB Unlimited.”

Hosts Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzalez, and Robi Domingo also introduced actor and former PBB Celebrity Edition 1 Runner-Up John Prats as the additional host of the upcoming “PBB Teen Edition 4,” which will premiere on Easter Sunday (April 8). The new teen season’s kickoff will present at least 12 teen housemates drawn out from the 22,305 teen auditionees who will be spending eight weeks in the famous Big Brother house.

“PBB Unlimited,” the fourth regular edition of the local version of the international TV franchise from Endemol, set out a fresh set of surprises and twists that gave both viewers and housemates the ultimate reality program experience, which began when the housemates occupied the ‘looban’ reminiscent of slum settlements.

Two groups of housemates were made to live in two separate houses, with an afternoon show called “PBB UnliDay” that initially bared updates from the Industrial House and the primetime program “PBB UnliNight” that aired happenings in the Mansion. The season also made use of reserved housemates, some of whom made it to the competition as official housemates after completing a set of tasks.

In the heat of the inter-house ‘Kontra Battle’ games, the housemates were trimmed down to the Top 14 contestants who were compelled to live together and battle for the Big Four slots.

Big Winner Slater, a privileged civil engineer who works for his father’s business, joined PBB to become more mature and independent. Regarded as a leader, he exhibited cleverness in carrying out Big Brother’s challenges as well as compassion for his fellow housemates.

Roland Emmerich Tackles Shakespearean Mystery in “Anonymous”

Roland Emmerich Tackles Shakespearean Mystery in “Anonymous”

Best known as the director of the epic blockbusters “Independence Day,” “The Day After Tomorrow” and “2012,” Roland Emmerich now takes on the mystery genre in Columbia Pictures' acclaimed and gripping thriller “Anonymous.”

Set in the political snake-pit of Elizabethan England, “Anonymous” speculates on an issue that has for centuries intrigued academics and brilliant minds such as Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, and Sigmund Freud, namely: who actually created the body of work credited to William Shakespeare?

Experts have debated, books have been written, and scholars have devoted their lives to protecting or debunking theories surrounding the authorship of the most renowned works in English literature. “Anonymous” poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when scandalous political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court, and the schemes of greedy nobles lusting for the power of the throne were brought to light in the most unlikely of places: the London stage.

To be shown soon exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma), “Anonymous” stars Rhys Ifans, Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Xavier Samuel, Sebastian Armesto, Rafe Spall, Edward Hogg, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Derek Jacobi.

The Shakespeare authorship question is a debate that started over one hundred years ago surrounding the identity of the works traditionally attributed to the bearded Bard from Stratford-Upon-Avon, William Shakespeare. Was he really the genius behind Hamlet’s tragic life, Romeo’s burning love, and Lady Macbeth’s plaguing guilt? Could the intellectual behind literature’s most brilliant characters be this very ordinary man from Stratford?

So little is known about the man from Stratford that many find it impossible to believe that the son of an illiterate tradesman was the author of such literary masterpieces as “The Merchant of Venice,” “King Lear,” and “Henry V.” His education from a village school could never have provided Shakespeare with a vocabulary extensive enough to write the most talked about literature in the world and there is no proof that he travelled to foreign lands let alone learnt to speak their native tongues. The only written documentation historians can ascribe to Shakespeare is several signatures on official documents with at least six different spellings (Shaksp, Shakspe, Shakesper, Shakespere, Shakspere and Shakspeare).

Aside from the plays attributed to him, there are no manuscripts, letters, journals or poems accredited to Shakespeare, which is quite astonishing, considering this was his legacy. His death in 1616 was met with silence, unlike other celebrated writers of his time, and his illiterate wife and children were bequeathed only his “second best bed” – no money – and even more shockingly, his will mentions no books or manuscripts of any kind.

“Anti-Stratfordians,” those that believe there is reasonable doubt that Shakespeare is the real author of the works, include literary greats, teachers, writers, world-renowned actors, directors and scholars such as Sigmund Freud, Orson Welles, Charlie Chaplin, Mark Twain, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman, Sir Derek Jacobi, and Sir John Gielgud. Whilst some believe in group theories (i.e. that a collective group of writers is responsible for the works), others favor singular writers such as Edward De Vere – the Earl of Oxford, Francis Bacon, or Christopher Marlowe.

Oxford (played in the film by Rhys Ifans) is perhaps the leading alternate candidate within anti-Stratfordian circles due to the remarkable concurrences between the nobleman and the scribe. There are many significant facts to support Oxfordian arguments that simply cannot be debunked by Stratfordians, among them that Oxford took a 16-month tour of the Continent which took him to all to of the cities in Italy with which Shakespeare evinces an easy familiarity, among them Padua, Milan, Verona, Mantua, Florence, and Siena. Another is that “Hamlet” eerily parallels Oxford’s life in an almost autobiographical form, depicting his father-in-law William Cecil as Polonius and his daughter, Anne Cecil, being Ophelia; the Queen herself, on whom Gertrude is modeled, was a surrogate mother to Oxford from the age of twelve and later became his lover. Was it a pure coincidence that Oxford’s annotated copy of the Geneva Bible marks passages that were used by Shakespeare or that Oxford’s nickname was “spear shaker?”

In 1987, US Supreme Court Justices John Paul Stevens, William Brennan, and Harry Blackmun held a mock trial on the authorship. Justice Brennan, the Senior Justice on the case, ruled that the Earl of Oxford did not meet the burden of proof required under the law to claim the authorship, however, Justice Harry Blackmun added that whilst this conclusion was the legal answer, he was doubtful it was the correct answer.

Until such time that there is conclusive evidence or definite proof to support any one theory, theoretically there is no right or wrong conclusion to this debate. However, one important question remains. As long as these masterpieces live on in our cultural conscience, does it really matter who Shakespeare was?

World-class Acts Discovered at Kanta Pilipinas Auditions

World-class Acts Discovered at Kanta Pilipinas Auditions

Judges Vehnee Saturno, Jamie Rivera & Maristel Fernandez

The biggest and newest singing reality show of TV5, Kanta Pilipinas held auditions at SM North EDSA last March 30. Over 1500 registrants lined up to get a chance to be part of the most anticipated show featuring the theme song sung by the country's world-renowned Ms. Lea Salonga.

The competition heats up with more head-turning voices and stories at SM North EDSA with hopefuls coming from Zamboanga, Mindoro, Tagaytay, Pampanga, Isabela Province and Marinduque. Pre-screening held at the parking lot trimmed the list to over 350 hopefuls to control the mob wanting to get in and perform on stage. Escalating more gossips and more people talking about the show, the on-lookers and mall-goers caused major traffic as hopefuls get their shot being judged by Inspirational Diva Judge Ms. Jamie Rivera, legendary music icon composer and arranger Mr. Vehnee Saturno and renowned talent manager Ms. Maristel Sempedro.

Soulful and cleared voiced, this Eric Benet sounding singer is sure to get the girls sighing

A crowd drawer, Michael Bolton category, husky powerful voice

Some who were champions in other networks and talent shows also joined in the experience and heard "Dito ka na Kapatid! Ang galing mo!" from the judges while the others were short of preparation and practice. An Eric Benet, an Alicia Keys and more remarkable talents rendered their best act and got loud applause from the audience but not all the contestants got in the final list. A Fil-am born with one ear sang to his hearts content and impressed the judges' on his struggle to adjust in the Philippine culture. Some trio and duo also performed with complete costumes to wow the judges but not all the groups received the approval for the final list.

An amazing vocal group that could kick ass, Candy Man or Cheek To Cheek, this group knows how good harmony sounds

TV5'sKanta Pilipinas breaks ground as it changes the Philippine culture of singing contests not just looking for "Birit Queens/Kings". Eyeing more unique voices and real talents, the judges were very distinct at comments on each contestant on stage. A Cercado sister joined without her siblings proving her sisters wrong about singing contests and performed without the usual technique the family had assimilated. Will she make it to the final list? Some got all three Yes' and some were just unfortunate enough to get the vote of the three judges. The choice of songs, the versions and the unique tunes were prominent at SM North EDSA. At the end of the second day call-back auditions, only 23 got in the final list to compete with the other contestants from other regions.

Usher, Chris Brown, Jay Sean, this guy has an international sound

Zari Brilon, bringing the crowd to a stand still with her acoustic version of Lady Gaga's You & I

The search continues as it brings Kanta Pilipinas final on-ground audition in SM City Batangas on April 20, 2012. Who will move the judges next?

Singer's Dark Past in Holy Week TV Special "Wasak"

Singer's Dark Past in Holy Week TV Special "Wasak"

On Black Saturday, April 7 at 5:00 p.m. on GMA, the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) Asia brings WASAK, the story of Jonaver Luklukan, played by actor/host Icko Gonzalez. It is about a gospel singer who’s dark past involves being hooked up with sex and drug addiction.

Jonaver was sexually-abused as a child so he grew up with a distorted view of love and sex. Because his family is poor, he uses his talent in singing to earn money as a singer in an afternoon show and eventually, became a Papuri singer. But temptations lure him back to his immoral lifestyle and vices, drugs, money and sex became his closest companions,” explains Icko.

Wasak is backed-up by veteran theater actors John Arcilla and Roselyn Perez. It also stars Gerard Pizarras, Minnie Aguilar, Jacque Oda and Tricia Jimenez among others.

He may be used to acting in front of an audience and seeing himself on TV because of his background in theater and his stint as “Kuya Bok” in Sineskwela, but Icko admits that he still has much to learn from his co-stars John and Roselyn who are both adept in the field of acting.

I have always admired and respected both actors. It’s such a thrill and an honor to work with two top caliber actors from the industry. John is effortless. Roselyn is intense. Both very intelligent actors, we discuss a scene before we shoot it, they don’t just memorize their lines in the script, they ask so many questions to make sure that the scenes are real to them. Actors should be life-long learners, while creating Wasak, I grabbed the opportunity to learn from them,” he shares.

Aside from being the lead actor in Wasak, Icko also wrote the script together with Don Gonzalez. The episode is directed by Derrek Adapon.

Icko also believes that this episode will encourage those people who have been silenced for years by their past abuses. “I hope Pastor Jonaver’s story will become an inspiration to many people who have been abused, whose lives have been broken, including mine, who need to hear that God wants to set people free and He wants to restore broken lives.”

Watch Icko as he plays the role of Jonaver in the Wasak episode of TANIKALA: ANG IKAAPAT NA YUGTO, on April 7 (Black Saturday), 5:00 p.m. on GMA.

TANIKALA: ANG IKAAPAT NA YUGTO is the Holy Week special of CBN Asia, the producer of weeknight inspirational TV program The 700 Club Asia. “LIKE” its official Facebook Fanpage www.facebook.com/tanikala4 for regular updates on Tanikala.

New Actress Taylor Schilling Plays Lady Luck in “The Lucky One”

New Actress Taylor Schilling Plays Lady Luck in “The Lucky One”

Actress-on-the-rise Taylor Schilling takes her first feature lead role as Zaf Efron's love interest in Warner Bros.' emotionally charged romantic drama, “The Lucky One.” Directed by Oscar-nominee Scott Hicks, the film is based on Nicholas Sparks' No.1 bestseller of the same title.

In “The Lucky One,” U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive - a photograph he found of a woman he doesn’t even know. Discovering her name is Beth (Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.

Taylor Schilling plays the woman in the photograph, who becomes a talisman for a man she doesn’t even know exists. “I got a feel for the character right off the page. They’re both living with a duality of tremendous loss and potential joy. Whether it’s their destiny or not, it’s incredibly romantic.”

Zac Efron offers, “Just the act of finding the picture directly saved his life. He was in the right place at the right time and after that he seems to survive situations he shouldn't be surviving, while others around him aren’t as lucky, so it takes on special meaning.”

Logan is unable to shake his curiosity about the woman in the photo, who inadvertently saved his life. Deciding he must try to locate her, he scours the internet to identify the lighthouse in the background, and finds the match. Soon he embarks on a trek from Colorado to Louisiana, with his dog Zeus at his side.

The filmmakers’ own search to find the object of Logan’s quest began and ended with actress Taylor Schilling, who was cast as Beth Green. “Taylor conveys a complexity of emotional expression that is really extraordinary,” Hicks says. “You read in her eyes so much depth and detail.

When the filmmakers put Schilling and Efron together, their on-screen chemistry sealed the deal. “That’s always the great unknown,” notes Hicks, “the question of what it’s going to be like when you put your stars together. Is there going to be any chemistry? From the first moment, the connection between Zac and Taylor was apparent.”

However, when Beth meets Logan, there’s immediate distrust. “They’re both broken in a way,” Efron acknowledges. “She’s guarded and he can’t tell her the real reason he’s there.

In the photo, Beth is smiling, but the woman Logan first encounters “has obviously experienced tremendous loss,” says Schilling. “She can’t help but bring all of her baggage to the table: her grief, her defensiveness, her pain, her vulnerability. Whether she’s ready or not, Logan shows up and presents an opportunity for her to heal. I so admire in Beth the courage and strength to go for it, even though it’s scary.

Producer Denise Di Novi adds, “Beth is a divorced single mother who put her dreams on hold until Logan comes into the picture and she begins to realize that maybe she does have a right to be happy and have love in her life again.”

Schilling will next be seen in Ben Affleck's latest directorial effort “Argo,” in theatres in September. She will star opposite Affleck, in the role of his wife, Christine, in the film that centers on the real-life C.I.A. plan to rescue a group of diplomats from Tehran after the 1979 Iranian revolution.

Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, April 19, “The Lucky One” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
