Miss Universe 2014 judges revealed: Manny Pacquiao to judge Miss
Universe 2014 finals
Will it work in favor of or against Miss Universe 2014 candidate from
the Philippines, Mary Jean Lastimosa? It's one hot topic today the
announcement of the first set of Miss Universe 2014 judges by the Miss
Universe Organization (MWO), particulary the inclusion of Filipino
8-division world boxing champion and Congressman Manny Pacquiao in the
lineup.
And while most of us here in the Philippines is celebrating for it,
still there are some pageant fans, whether Filipino or not, who are
questioning why Pacquiao was chosen to sit as a judge in this world's
most popular pageant during its 63rd finale on January 25 in Doral,
Miami.
They're questioning his ability to be a beauty pageant judge, and fans
of other Miss Universe 2014 candidates are already worried that
Pacquiao might be biased on Miss Philippines, knowing how
nationalistic the boxer is.
I actually don't see any problem with Pacquiao as Miss Universe 2014
judge. His credentials would tell he has great achievements, deserving
to judge a pageant which in the past has featured a diverse set of
judges, regardless of race, profession and achievement, whether he or
she comes from the fashion or beauty pageant world or not, may he be a
sports champion, a politician, a businessman or an actor. Pacquiao
isn't the first celebrity coming from the sports world to get invited
to judge Miss Universe. There were many already.
I'm sure Pacquiao also has an eye for beauty, and knows what's
beautiful, sexy, elegant or not. I'm also confident he can comprehend
very well the responses during the Question & Answer portion, and can
decide who gives the most impressive answer.
Even if Mary Jean Lastimosa would score the highest for Pacquiao
(assuming she enters the Top 15), he's just 1 judge and won't prevail
if the other judges won't like Miss Philippines.
My only concern actually is Pacquiao also doing a Lea Salonga. The
Filipino Broadway star already judged Miss Universe in 2011, but she
failed to convince everyone if she indeed judged fairly when she said
Shamcey Supsup placed 2nd in her scoresheet behind the winner, Miss
Angola, even if Shamcey was more deserving. Miss Philippines only
placed 4th then over-all (or 3rd Runner Up).
Manny knows the feeling of getting robbed of a boxing title, so he
will certainly judge fairly in the beauty pageant. The pressure is
actually on Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa to work harder in the
pageant and prove she's deserving to win Miss Universe 2014, so as to
avoid a possible controversy about Miss Philippines being favored to
win by a Filipino judge.
Joining Pacquiao in the judging panel are Cuban-American actor William
Levy, who was named as Sexiest Man Alive by People En Espanol in 2011,
American TV personality Kristin Cavallari, British star Lisa
Vanderpump of the American TV shows "Vanderpump Rules" and "The Real
Housewives of Beverly Hills", English TV host Louise Roe of the
American reality show "Plain Jane" and 5 other judges who re yet to be
announced.
Levy is familiar to Pinoy viewers as the male lead Juan Miguel in the
Mexican telenovela 'Maria de Jesus: Anghel ng Lansangan' ('Ciudado con
el Angel'), which was shown here in 2009.
