Derek Ramsay TV5 Contract Worth P600-M, Asked by Star Cinema to Tell the Truth About Bea Alonzo's Movie
www.showbiznest.com
In a news posted at Yahoo! OMG on Saturday, TV5 star Derek Ramsay said he can't help but feel hurt when he learned that Star Cinema decided to take him out as Bea Alonzo’s leading man in the movie "The Mistress" and replaced by John Lloyd Cruz.
“I was the last to know. (At first) hindi ako naniwala sa mga tao sa paligid ko na wala na nga ako talaga.” Derek said.
In today's Ricky F. Lo's Funfare article, Star Cinema Managing Director Malou Santos, answers and clarifies Derek's statement which she believes is a lie.
The article reads:
Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos called up Funfare yesterday to clarify the item about Derek Ramsay having been “unceremoniously” taken out of The Mistress, replaced by John Lloyd Cruz as the leading man of Bea Alonzo (with Hilda Koronel and Ronaldo Valdez as the other members of the cast).
Malou said that Derek did shoot for the movie for only three days and not seven days as Funfare reported.
Before Derek signed up with the Kapatid Network TV5, Malou admitted that Star Cinema/ABS-CBN did make a counter-offer for both film and TV, without mentioning the talent fee involved. According to the network’s official statement, Derek must have been offered by TV5 an amount “na hindi namin kayang tapatan.” Derek and his manager Joji denied that Derek bit the TV5 offer to the tune of P600 million (too much, too much!?!).
“I spoke to Joji about management’s decision last April 4 at 5 p.m.,” recalled Malou. “The text of Derek came a few minutes after that. It said, ‘Hi, Tita. I heard the sad news na papalitan n’yo po ako sa movie. Thank you, Tita, for the opportunity. Best wishes.’ I texted him back, ‘I hope you understand the decision of management.’ He replied, ‘Yes, I do.’ So it’s not true that we replaced Derek without his being informed about it.”
Citing the case of Aga Muhlach who also moved from Kapamilya to Kapatid, Malou said it was an entirely different story.
“Aga was shooting his Star Cinema movie In The Name Of Love with Angel Locsin when his negotiations with TV5 were going on, but he made the official announcement only when the movie was done and ready to be shown,” explained Malou. “In the case of Derek, nauna ang announcement ng paglipat n’ya sa TV5 before the movie was even finished.”
Malou has one appeal to Derek: “As I wish you luck and I respect your decision (to sign up with another network), just tell the truth. Huwag lang magsalita ng hindi tama at hindi totoo.”

Angelica: Success hasn’t changed Piolo
“Nakita ko na mas yumaman pa siya. Pero yung yumabang? Hindi mo iyon makikita sa kanya. Ikaw pa yung mahihiya umarte kasi parang mas wala siyang arte,” Angelica said at the press conference of their reunion movie, “Every Breath U Take” at Dolce Latte on Thursday, April 26.
She added that they have established a good working relationship (their first team-up was in the 2004 TV drama “Mangarap Ka”) and inspire each other to improve their craft.
Angelica also revealed that Piolo’s energy on the set keeps them on their toes.
“Hindi mo alam kung anong ipapakita niya so kailangan ready ka lang. Kapag pagod ka na, hindi pa siya pagod, wala kang karapatang mapagod. So ang ganda ng naging working relationship (naming), kasi nai-inspire namin ‘yung isa’t-isa na maging maganda ‘yung trabaho.”
Smitten
Like other girls, Angelica is smitten by Piolo’s good looks and acting talent.
“Kapag nakikita mo siya, masaya lang, kumpleto na araw mo. Gusto ko titigan ko lang siya. Gwapo, sobrang galing umarte, talagang nakakadala.”
Angelica and Piolo treated their intimate scenes in the movie with as much professionalism as possible. Piolo, she explains, is a gentleman and took care of her on the set.
“Wala (malisya). Siyempre mahirap isipin iyon habang ginagawa (yung kissing scenes). Hindi ko naman pwedeng isipin habang nasa eksena kami kasi medyo nakaka-off naman yun sa trabaho namin. Sobrang gentleman ni Papa P,” she shared.
Experimental
Angelica enjoys dabbling in different genres like drama, comedy and horror. On TV, Angelica displays her comedic side in “Banana Split.”
“Gusto ko lang din po kasing mag-experiment ng mga bagay na puwede mong gawin. Like ‘yung pagpapatawa ko, hindi ko naman po alam, hindi ko naman po akalain na may mga tao palang naiintindihan ‘yung humor ko.”
Angelica is happy that she is effective both in drama and comedy, which she finds equally challenging.
“Siyempre, thankful po ako and mas marami pa po akong gustong ma-experience.Ayaw ko naman po na matatapos doon. So, sana mas maraming dumating pa na puwede nating pag-aralan pa ‘yong mga roles na puwede tayong ma-challenge.”

Jamie’s advice to Jessica
“I suggest that she sing Barbra Streisand’s ‘Somewhere’. It’s a simple, yet versatile and challenging song. It’s appropriate for her age. And it can showcase the versatility of her voice because the song requires dynamics. It can be arranged as an RnB song although it’s Broadway,” Jamie relates.
She should know. Jamie has sat as judge in many singing talent searches like “Bulilit Star Quest” and “Diz Iz It.” Her latest judging stint is TV5’s upcoming nationwide musical search “Kanta Pilipinas.”
Jamie has gone to Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Iloilo, Baguio, Batangas and other places in search of the best candidates for “Kanta Pilipinas.”
And she has come up with certain conclusions about today’s young, aspiring singers.
Sound-alikes
“The problem with some of them is pare-pareho ang style nila. Wala pa akong narinig na walang ginaya, which is understandable kasi may peg sila. May idol sila,” Jamie states.
Among these pegs, she goes on, are Adele, Whitney Houston, Charice, Jessa Zaragoza, Lani Misalucha, and the Aegis band.
Jamie sees nothing wrong with that—at the start. After all, she herself admits copying Kuh Ledesma and Barbra as a newcomer.
“But once you have your original song, that’s when you gain confidence to have your own style. That’s when the song adapts to the singer, not the other way around,” relates Jamie.
She has good news for Filipinos overseas who want to join “Kanta Pilipinas,” which will send chosen singers in a training camp before featuring them in the show which starts airing in July.
“Auditions are still open through the internet. But chosen candidates must go to the Philippines for the contest.”
Radio Veritas theme
Meanwhile, Jamie revealed that Radio Veritas has tapped her to sing the station’s new theme. The song, like Jamie’s hit, “Jubilee.” targets the young, an audience the station is reaching out to in its bid to erase its politically-charged image.
“I recommended new instruments and gadgets that will appeal to today’s generation,” states Jamie.
The station has also introduced live streaming to attract more young listeners “who can chat with the station’s doctors, psychologists and brothers” if they have problems.
The CMMA (Catholic Mass Media Awards) Best Inspirational Song winner (for the “Sa ‘Yo Lamang” soundtrack, also named Best Inspirational/Religious album at the most recent Awit awards) is just as proud of her newest gold record honors from the Awit, courtesy of her album “Inspirations.”
As record producer, Jamie has released Fatima Soriano’s inspirational album. Jamie is now wrapping up work on an upcoming album with Jose Mari Chan and other artists. It is here where Jamie sings child-oriented songs like “Jesus Is My Best Friend” and “A Mother’s Prayer.”

Annabelle denies Nadia’s accusations
In an interview with the show’s host Boy Abunda on Sunday, April 29, Annabelle recalled that Nadia asked her (Annabelle) to request production people of a soap opera Nadia’s daughters Alyanna and Annika Asistio were doing to allow them to work only on weekends so they can prioritize their studies (tapings were held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays).
Annabelle turned down the request, saying that she is in no position to propose such an arrangement since Nadia’s kids played only minor roles.
“Sabi ko, ‘mamili ka na lang, kung gusto mo ng showbiz o mag-aral ang anak mo.’ Hindi pwedeng weekend, eh. Ang bida pwede, eh ‘tong extra hindi,” Annabelle remembered telling Nadia.
Annabelle also denied Nadia’s claim that she did not want the children to be pulled out of the show because they were part of a “package deal” with other talents that she manages.
“Isang tawag niya lang sa’kin na i-pull out yung anak nya, pull out,” Annabelle said.
Not close
When Boy asked about the quality of her former friendship with Nadia, Annabelle was quick to say that they weren’t close.
“Actually, Boy, hindi ko siya close,” Annabelle relates, adding that she and Nadia met through a common friend,. Annabelle surmised that Nadia may have been close to Ruffa (Gutierrez, Annabelle’s daughter) during their “That’s Entertainment” days. But things have changed.
“Kaya ako nagdesisiyong tulungan si Nadia kasi lagi siyang nagungutang sa’kin,” Annabelle explains why she offered help to Nadia and her kids in the first place. Instead of lending Nadia money, Annabelle decided to give her and her children a source of income instead.
“Tayong mga manager, Boy, suplado rin naman tayo. Andami kong tinanggihan… Pero itong (mga) anak niya pinagsisihan ko talaga… Natulungan mo na, idedemanda ka pa, puro ka pa insult,” Annabelle goes on.
What does Annabelle say about Nadia’s statement that she will not shed a single tear for her?
“Kung galing sa puso mo ang sinabi mo, eh di papatak ang luha mo, ‘day,” she responded to Boy’s question.
As for Nadia’s opinion that she was wrong in trusting her, Annabelle retorted, “Ako ang walang ginawang mali sa kanya.”
Message to Nadia
She has only sharp words to give as a way of advising Nadia.
“Dapat totoo lang sasabihin mo. Tigilian mo na ang pagsisinungaling, tigilan mo na ang pag-imbento ng mga kwentong hindi maganda. Hindi pwedeng ganunin mo ako. Saka Nadia, matuto ka na. Sabi mo ako makakarma, ikaw makakarma—ako hindi nagsisinungaling. Tingnan ko kung sinong makakarma sa mga pinaggagawa mo sa’kin.”

A lot of members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community were outraged by this controversial tweet. And the storm may or may not be over as Miriam apologized but maintained her stand on the matter.
“No offense to the LGBT but the Truth is the Truth that comes from God. Take it or leave it. We will all face the judgment seat of God.”
Lawyer and former Makati 1st District Congressman Teddy Locsin Jr. also expressed his views.
Not a lie
“No, no, you are not a lie, the pejorative word and notion of homosexuality is a lie of the devil, God loves all,” he tweeted to designer Paolo Castro in an attempt to explain what Miriam could have really meant in her tweet.
Apples Aberin tweeted, “Some of my best friends are gay! And I just have to say that my life is so much better because of them. They are God's gift to me. :)”
Joey Mead showed support to the community by tweeting “Dear LGBT community. I feel ur hurt, when u dont deserve it pa. Stay proud & positive! For that’s i how feel when i think of my LGBT family.”
Marco Harder of the band Purplechickens, on the other hand, criticized Miriam’s way of sharing her beliefs when he said, “look at the modesty you Christians display, as if to say 'oh don't mind me, just carry on while I do god's work'.”
Miriam proceeded to reply, explain, and apologize. She frequently cited Bible teachings. She replied with she “will think about it” to @eco_fierce who challenged her to “advocate” the Ladlad Partylist in the next elections if she really “love us, and sincerely believe LGBT deserves equal rights.”
About 16 hours after her first LGBT tweet, Miriam posted “I'm sorry LGBT. Perhaps I was too harsh with the words I used. Will do my best to be more sensitive,” with the hashtags “respect,” “nobodysperfect,” and “grace.”

Missing Nikki
Billy shared that he will surely miss Nikki, especially since they see each other every day.

Josh Brolin Plays the Young Agent K in “Men in Black”
Josh Brolin Plays the Young Agent K in “Men in Black”
When Agent J (Will Smith) jumps back in time to 1969, he almost immediately comes into contact with the man who will become his partner in 25 or 30 years – Agent K. The filmmakers of Columbia Pictures' action adventure comedy “Men in Black 3” turned to Oscar-nominee Josh Brolin to build on Tommy Lee Jones’ performance as the older K to interpret and channel the character as a young man.
“You’ll hear all the time a producer say, ‘Well, if we didn’t find this particular actor, we could never have cast the role’ – but that was never more true than with Josh playing this part,” says producer Walter F. Parkes. “You can find a picture of Tommy Lee Jones as a lineman for Harvard and compare to a picture of Josh Brolin in `Milk,' with his hair cut in an early-1970s style. It’s amazing – they’re dead ringers for each other. But it’s not just about how he looks. He had to deliver Tommy, but he couldn’t do an impersonation – he had to do an interpretation. I think his performance is one of the delights of the movie.”
“Will and Tommy are an iconic duo,” says Brolin. “It wouldn’t work if another actor came in as a third wheel. But when they explained to me the plot of the film and my role – that J goes back in time to 1969 and I would play the young K – well, I’m in. I’m in without even thinking about it, because there’s a character I want to play.”
“Being a part of this movie is crazy for me,” Brolin continues. “When you go see a great movie, like `Men In Black,' you’re in the audience thinking, ‘Wow, I want to be those guys.’ You want to be that cool, to have that chemistry with someone. And then you’re asked to do it – it’s like winning the lottery. When I put on the suit, it was the most surreal feeling in the world – I felt like Superman.”
In approaching his role, Brolin says he relied on a careful mix of actors’ tools. “I started with a caricature and whittled away from there,” Brolin explains. “But we really created our own thing. It was less about ‘How am I going to do Tommy?’ than finding a rendition of Tommy and then making it our own.”
“There’s a certain rapport or repartee that you’ll develop with an actor, and that becomes your timing, how you create,” co-star Will Smith says. “Josh had studied Tommy so well that there wasn’t a single missed beat when Josh came in. It was almost the identical chemistry, which is very difficult to come by.”
In the highly anticipated sequel “Men in Black 3,” Agents J and K are back... in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K’s life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him -- secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.
Opening across the Philippines on May 23 in 3D and regular theaters, “Men in Black 3” will be distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
