Highway 54 revisited: The making of ‘20/20’
Looking around, one thing struck me immediately—it looked like a normal day. There were cars, jeepneys, and buses on the road. People were walking on the streets as if hurrying to work.
But this did not compute. There was no work. A national holiday still meant no work in these parts, right? It was the day when people were supposed to be at home watching “Jesus of Nazareth” or enjoying a little R&R somewhere in the province far, far away from the city.
It was the reason why the production chose this day and Black Saturday to shoot a music video inspired by last-man-on-earth classics like “The Omega Man” and “28 Days Later.” If this busy morning was any indication of the day ahead, the whole concept would be jeopardized.
Time to walk EDSA
I immediately aired my concerns to the entire crew when I reached the foot of Bonifacio Monument where the first setup of the day was. “Ang daming tao,” I said wearily, as if I was in a bad dream. Jason Tan, the director, simply nodded in assent and continued setting up the shot. He has obviously surveyed the situation way before me and was probably thinking of solutions right that moment, if he hadn’t already found one.
Jason is a music video veteran, funny in conversation but dead serious and deadly behind the camera. He had a knack for arresting, lyrical imagery, and the high premium he puts on originality made him an easy pick to helm the most ambitious thing we had all done so far. (Watch Jason’s other works here.)
After the fairly simple first shot (me assembling the surreal looking tripod and camera loaned to us by artist Gabriel Barredo) it was time to walk EDSA.

The day’s schedule would cover almost the whole span of the 24 kilometer avenue from Monumento to Gil Puyat. We had a couple of men from the MMDA and PNP to help with traffic, and at this early stage all they could do was redirect the flow of vehicles to the lane I wasn’t on. We managed to get some interesting shots around the Muñoz area but most of them were useless. There were simply too many cars and people.
It was 9 a.m. when we reached Location 3 at the SM North EDSA intersection. The traffic was noticeably lighter than on normal days, but for a Good Friday it was still surprising. “It’s like Tuesday,” our producer Erwin Romulo exclaimed. And the spacious road meant the cars were now going faster than usual.
I was waiting for Jason to yell action, standing in what I assumed to be the safe zone within the invisible line that the PNP’s parked motorcycles provided when suddenly a bus came roaring toward me.
I do not have cat-like reflexes, but at that moment my dormant survival genes sprang to life and I managed to get out of the maniac driver’s way. Apparently he was playing Road Warrior with another bus. Even though I almost got my ticket punched, the footage was never used. There were just too many cars.
‘A completely deserted EDSA behind me’
Location 3 was the undulating overpass at GMA/Timog. Here the whole production finally hit its stride. Jason made me stand in the middle of the road lip-synching to the song that only I could hear in my earphones while the cops held the cars at bay. After the take, I ran to watch the playback on Jason’s obscenely expensive SLR. I saw myself standing uncomfortably in the middle of the road, and a completely deserted EDSA behind me. The dream was coming true.
We trudged on. At Cubao underpass Jason started directing me. “Look up. Look Down. Keep singing. Start Walking. Keep walking.” Sometimes I feel like some actor in a music video.
Ortigas overpass was pretty hairy. False starts, miscommunication, errant vehicles were the norm. But it didn’t matter one bit. We were almost done with day one.
‘I believed Buendia Ave. would be my street someday’
Gil Puyat Avenue, a.k.a. Buendia, has a rather amusing significance to me because I was brought up to believe that it would be my street someday. As to whether my parents were joking or if they themselves actually believed this is still shrouded in mystery.
At the last setup, Jason gave me water in a plastic bag and told me to drink it on cam. Now this was the only time I told him, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Thankfully, he agreed.

With the film in the can so to speak, we all headed home. The Makati skyline glistened in the golden light of dusk. Inside the cocoon of the car I was already thinking of the next day. Walking alone in EDSA was fun. But a whole band playing right smack in the middle of Guadalupe? Now that would be something.

Kyle on winning Junior MasterChef: It felt like a dream
He plans to become a chef and have his own restaurant someday.
Kyle beat equally young finalists Philip Amarillo, Jobim Jalbuena and Mika Tanaka in ABS-CBN’s kiddie cooking competition “Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition.”
“It was like really a big surprise for me. I felt like it was a dream, when the balloons and confetti were showering on me and all the top 20 kiddie cooks were congratulating me,” Kyle told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! in an e-mail interview.
For Kyle, the finale was anyone’s ball game. He thought the four of them are all good cooks.
“Mika is very persevering, Jobim has fine taste, Philip is super fast and as I said, we all felt that we were all winners already before the final round,” Kyle said.
When the battle was just between him and Philip, Kyle said he thought his opponent would win since Philip “learns fast and is very resourceful.”
Kyle’s winning dishes “Oyster Ravioli” and “Asian fusion shrimp and scallops” were inspired by his cooking and dining experiences with his family, and dishes he learned from JMC.
“It was also a summary of my JMC experience because I took elements from my winning dishes in the previous challenges like the "cilantro lime sauce" of my “pansit luglug,” avocados from my Mexican platter, grilled prawns from the team challenges, edible flowers and plating style from my “balut” dish, plus new techniques that I have learned like foam, searing and flambéing, cooking with wine, and jellies,” he added.
Kyle feels grateful to host Judy Ann Santos and judges Chef Ferns, Chef Lau, and Chef Jayps for giving the kiddie cooks tips on various techniques in the kitchen.
“They have their own specialties so they all help us in different ways. Ate Juday does not only give good cooking advice, but also takes very good care of us in the set. She is very, very nice and loving to all of us kiddie cooks.”
Catching up with school
Now that the show has ended, Kyle is catching up on his studies. He managed to do well in school, even if he missed some of his classes.
“I learned how to manage my time and focus more. My grades have improved a lot because of my experience in JMC, maybe that is why the school is also supporting me.”
Since Kyle is still too young to put up his own restaurant, his family plans to open a “pancit luglog” business or a small restaurant.
“Maybe in summer, we will try to put up the small restaurant, or a “halo halo” stand, at least! I will not stop cooking because I am sure that this is what I really want,” he said.
Giving showbiz a try
Entering showbiz may not be Kyle’s top priority now, but he is open to joining showbiz if there’s an opportunity.
“If I can get into showbiz even if I am not showbiz material like Jobim and Caitlin, I would be very grateful. I admire Ate Juday for being an actress and a great cook at the same time, I would like to be just like her,” Kyle said.
Kyle added that he misses all the kiddie cooks, Judy Ann, and the chef judges, as well as the show’s production people.
“It was really, really hard but it was also really fun. I would be happy to repeat the whole experience again,” he said.
Long term plans
Ten years from now, Kyle sees himself a full-time chef running his own restaurant. He also wants to teach others how to cook.
“By that time also, me and my father may have our own restaurant already, but my dad says I still have to gain experience outside so I can learn a lot more. Someday, I want to teach other people how to cook as well so I can return the favor to my dad, the chef judges, and everyone else who have taught me,” Kyle said.
Meanwhile, the master kiddie chef will cut the ribbon at Tradecon’s fifth annual Food and Beverage Expo and HORECA (Hotel, Restaurant and Caterers Expo) on Thursday, March 1, 10 a.m. at the PICC. The fair, which will run until Sunday, March 4, features over 300 exhibitors, including local and international suppliers, distributors, and manufacturers. International exhibitors from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea and the US will also showcase their products.

Christian admits relationship with ‘Kitchen Musical’ co-star
In an interview with members of the press during the launch of his latest album “First Class: Outbound Expanded Edition” album earlier today, February 28, the 30-year-old singer said they officially became a couple this Valentine’s Day.
He added that they’ve met each other’s family.
“Nakilala niya mom ko, dad ko, my family. Tapos nakilala ko na rin yung mom niya saka sister niya,” Christian said. “So it’s all so good.”
Christian first met Carla, a Chinese-Romanian actress-model who is based in Singapore, when they worked together in the Pan-Asian musical series “The Kitchen Musical.” Carla is in the country to watch Christians’s concert “Love and Laughter” in Resorts World Manila tomorrow.
The Kapamilya artist first admitted he’s dating Carla earlier this month.
Unexpected
In previous interviews, Christian said he really wants to take his time before entering in a relationship. What did he see in Carla that made him commit?
“Yung nafeel yung lahat ng hinahanap mo at hindi mo hinahanap,” he explained.
Christian also said, “Sometimes, hindi ko ineexpect yung mga ganitong bagay. Nung nakilala ko siya, ang bait niyang tao. Naco-compliment niya ako. Ako yung medyo seryoso, siya yung medyo funny. She loves family, God. She supports me.”
Carla also made Christian reassess his opinion of long-distance relationships.
“Kahit long distance, we make it work. Nung una ayoko ng long distance, pero bakit with this girl gusto kong ibahin yung perception ko ng long distance?” the singer explained.
Does he pray that Carla is the one?
“I always pray na in any relationship sana mag-work, that she would be the one,” Christian said. “My answer would be is that I hope she would be the one. Pero of course, only God knows. And dapat step by step, hindi dapat madaliin.
Long distance
Since Carla is based in Singapore, Christian said they plan to meet at least once a month. He also shared his actress-model girlfriend is open to working in the Philippines.
“Kung meron akong mahahanap sa trabaho para sa kanya, she’s willing to explore work dito sa Pilipinas,” he said.
Would she be open to joining local showbiz?
“Kung mabuksan ang door sa showbiz na hindi ko pinipilit pero welcome siya, yeah, sure, para magkatrabaho siya dito,” Christian shared.
Open to offers
As for rumors that he’s mulling to transfer to TV5, Christian reiterated that he is still under contract with ABS-CBN until August. However, the singer added he’s open to any offers after his contract with the Kapamilya network is up.
“After August, magkakaroon ng re-negotiation. Syempre, as an artist, I am open to any offers,” he said. “Kung ano ang channel na magbibigay ng magandang future, doon po tayo.”
Does the fact that he’s open to offers from other networks mean he’s not happy with his current station?
“Malalaman po natin yan…” Christian said.
He added, “Ang nakakatawa, hindi lang ako, ang dami kong nababasa na many artists na may mga… hinanaing.”
The “Kitchen Musical” star said he knows ABS-CBN is in a difficult position since they have a lot of artists in their fold. But as an artist, he said “kailangan mong ipaglaban yung presence mo.”
Just the same, his manager Carlo Orosa announced during the album launch that an ABS-CBN TV special for Christian is in the works.
10th year
Christian’s latest album, “First Class: Outbound Expanded Edition” coincided with his 10th year in show business.
He described the album as “back to originals” since it features a number of original compositions such as “Sasabihin” and “Rescue You” (with Sam Concepcion). Christian also collaborated with KC Concepcion, Zia Quizon, and Angeline Quinto for the album.
“I’m very happy to be here,” he said. “Hindi ko po inexpect na ganito, to stay this long in the industry. Kahit maraming mga setbacks, marami pa ring opportunities. Laban pa rin.”
He added, “And I love what I’m doing. And as long as may fans, kakanta ako para sa kanila.”

Bela ‘meant no harm’ with controversial FHM cover
In her Twitter account, Bela posted yesterday, February 27: “I meant no harm with this cover. I'm so sorry to everyone who got offended. I hope all of you see the beauty of the cover and appreciate it.”
The controversy first broke when FHM Philippines uploaded the cover of its March issue in their official Facebook page. It showed the faired-skinned Bela in a bikini surrounded by black female models.
The magazine cover also sported the title blurb: “Bela Padilla: Stepping Out of the Shadows.”
Netizens immediately tagged the cover as “racist.”
Apology
Two days after the cover was uploaded online, FHM Philippines issued an apology and said its March issue will sport a different cover.
Their statement, which was posted on their website, reads in full:
“On Saturday, February 25, we uploaded the March issue with Bela Padilla on the cover on our Facebook page.
Just hours later, a slew of comments on the supposed "racism" of the cover image and cover line flooded the magazine page, prompting the editorial team to re-examine the cover so that we could put into context its execution and assuage the concerns of our readers and non-readers as well who've weighed in on the issue.
We took all the points into consideration and have decided to take the side of sensitivity.
When FHM hits the stands in March it will have a different cover. We deem this to be the most prudent move in the light of the confusion over the previous cover execution.
We apologize and thank those who have raised their points. We apologize to Bela Padilla for any distress this may have caused her.
In our pursuit to come up with edgier covers, we will strive to be more sensitive next time.”

Grace Lee on Angelicopter: Why is she coming out just now?
“Ang pinakaayaw ko sa sinabi niya is that ginawa ko 'yon dahil I feel powerful. This happened even before I met the President (Noynoy Aquino, whom Grace is dating). I had not gone out on a single date with him,” Grace told the press at the “Lovin’ Summer with SM Accessories” fashion event at Dusit Hotel on Monday, Feb. 27.
Grace adds that she finds it “so childish” that Angelicopter is linking her dates with the President to the issue.
“It has nothing to do with that,” Grace insists.
Angelicopter’s delayed reaction puzzles Grace because the whole issue came up “two weeks before Christmas last year.”
Now Grace wants to find out: “Bakit ngayon lang siya lumabas?”
Grace admits Angelicopter’s words and deeds hurt her so much she stepped out of the room and cried while her friends comforted her.
“Inaway niya ako. Nasaktan ako sa mga sinabi at ginawa niya, It’s very unprofessional.”
But Grace is mum on what Angelicopter actually said and did.
“It’s a private business and she knows better than anyone else that tinanggal siya sa trabaho hindi dahil sa ayaw namin,” Grace explains. “Ilang beses nag-call ng attention niya ang dahil sa on-air and off-air problems niya.”
Magic 89.9 management has issued a statement clearing Grace’s name on the issue, saying that Angelicopter’s termination was the result of ‘an ongoing assessment of her overall performance,’ not because of her falling out with the Korean host.
Taken aback
Aware of the termination, Grace was “taken aback” when she stepped into the booth and saw Angelicopter. The last thing she expected was to see Angelicopter that day. And Grace admits she was not ready for what she saw.
“I knew management has decided to terminate her contract with the station. Nasa New York siya nung panahon na 'yon so walang communcation. I didn’t know what was going on. In fairness to (Magic 899) management, they wanted to fire her face to face. Ayaw nila over the phone. So they waited for her to come back and none of us knew she was back in the country,” said Grace.
Now all Grace wants for Angelicopter is for her to “move on from this part of her life.”
Grace knows Angelicopter is having a tough time, not just in her career but in her personal life.
“Sana maayos niya na rin ‘yon at sana makuha niya ang gusto niya sa buhay niya, whether it is in her career or personal life.”
In fairness to Angelicopter, Grace revealed that she did try to reach out through text. Grace says she replied once, contrary to Angelicopter’s claims.
“Maiintindihan naman niya siguro kung ayaw ko na talaga dahil sa nangyari,” Grace adds.
Mom’s business
Looking at the bright side, Grace revealed that her mom’s grocery business is getting more popular, thanks to the controversy it has attracted.
“Pero nagtatago ang nanay ko,” Grace shares.
In the end, she hopes the attention she is getting is worth it.
“I’m not enjoying it,” Grace admits. But she knows it’s also a source of blessings.
“Maraming dumarating na new endorsements and projects. But at the same time, at what cost?”
That’s food for thought, not just for Grace, but for all celebrities as well.

Atty. Mike Templo Samples Mortician’s Life this Thursday on 'Insider'
This week on Insider, Atty. Mike Templo gets a crash course in being a mortician or embalmer - a profession more commonly feared or dreaded rather than respected. Catch the second documentary of the AKSYON Weekend anchor following his high rating Insider episode “Bilibid” this Thursday (March 1) on TV5 and Aksyon TV.
With the help of Manay Glo, a 64-year-old on-call mortician, Mike learns the ropes on the proper handling of the remains of departed ones. He also realized that being in the industry requires more than just a tough gut as the veteran of 46 years shares why she stayed in the business for more than four decades now.
Our insider also meets Chris Tia who, despite having decorated himself with a masters and doctorate degree, has chosen to make a living out of the dead. Like Manay Glo, he finds fulfilment in being a mortician and is convinced that this job pays better than any other job out there. Chris also believes that the profession he has chosen will be his ticket to a better life abroad.
Since its premiere last February 2, this trailblazing documentary program has delivered compelling stories behind the most interesting places, institutions and how they operate, showcasing the seasoned anchors of NEWS5 including Cherie Mercado (“Slaughterhouse” episode), Cheryl Cosim (“Fish Port” episode) and Martin Andanar (“Philippine National Police Academy” episode). Also lined up in the upcoming episodes are NEWS5 chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes, Raffy Tulfo, Paolo Bediones, Lourd De Veyra and NEWS5 head of news production Patrick Paez.
Last February 9, insider Mike Templo stepped into the other side of the thick walls of the New Bilibid Maximum Security Prison. For two days, Mike managed to live, eat, sleep among the country’s most notorious criminals and discovered the story behind the men behind bars. The said episode recorded a 1.6% AMR in MegaTAM, according to the data provided by Nielsen Media Research - higher than ABS-CBN’s current affairs program Krusada which only posted 1.2% AMR.
Don’t miss Mike’s Insider episode as he sees the life of a mortician this Thursday after Pilipinas News on TV5; with a one-hour Producer’s Cut at earlier timeslot (7:30 p.m.) over Aksyon TV (Channel 41 in Mega Manila, Channel 29 in Metro Cebu and Davao, Channel 1 on Cignal Digital TV and Channel 59 on Sky Cable).
“The Muppets” Wins Oscar for Best Original Song
“The Muppets” Wins Oscar for Best Original Song
The beloved song “The Rainbow Connection” sung by Kermit the Frog didn't win the Academy Award for Best Original Song when it was nominated in the '80s. Now, Kermit has been vindicated as the ditty “Man or Muppet” from Disney's new comedy “The Muppets” has just bagged the Oscar for its songwriter Bret McKenzie.
“It’s a power ballad that deals with a man/Muppet identity crisis,” McKenzie says. “We’ve all been there. I hammered it out on the piano, imagining I was Eric Carmen.” The song required strong vocal performances from both castmembers Jason Segel and Walter. “Luckily, they did an amazing job,” says McKenzie, who also serves as music supervisor.
“I know Bret from ‘Flight of the Conchords,’” says director James Bobin. “We used to watch ‘The Muppet Show’ quite a lot when we were writing ‘The Conchords’ together. We’d watch ‘Mah Na Mah Na’ and ‘Hugga Wugga’ during breaks. In one of our ‘Conchords’ episodes, we even included a Muppets tribute. So we love the Muppets. We thought about songs from the previous movies and how that would feel now. The music is incredibly important because of the rich tradition of Muppet music.”
“Music was always an integral part of the original Muppet show and Muppet films,” adds McKenzie. “It's hard to think of the Muppets without thinking of songs like ‘Rainbow Connection’ or ‘Mah Na Mah Na,’ or Animal smashing a drum. Kermit is probably the world’s most famous banjo player. I loved the original Muppets sound and I wanted this film to stay in that world. I tried to use as much banjo as possible.”
McKenzie also penned the opening and finale song titled “Life’s a Happy Song,” performed by Jason Segel, Walter and Amy Adams. “I wrote this in New Zealand when I was in a particularly good mood,” he says. “I sat down at the piano and it came out very quickly. It’s a simple little song and James Bobin really liked it. He then asked me to make it into a gigantic musical number involving an entire town singing and dancing.”
Amy Adams and Miss Piggy teamed up for a duet created by McKenzie called “Me Party.” “It needed to be sad but also up-tempo, so I came up with a party track for the lonely. I wrote this song sitting in a cafe, drinking iced teas and getting weird looks from the waitress when I did Miss Piggy impressions. Amy Adams did a great job of channeling her inner disco diva. Miss Piggy was predictably difficult to work with; I think she was dealing with some personal issues.”
Also featured in the film is the original song “Pictures In My Head,” performed by Kermit the Frog, Fozzie, Gonzo, Swedish Chef, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, and written by Jeannie Lurie, Aris Archontis and Chen Neeman. Andrew Bird is the writer/artist behind the song “The Whistling Caruso,” a song performed by newcomer Walter in the movie.
While the new songs are sure to please, no Muppet movie would be complete without some signature songs. Disney’s “The Muppets” features “Rainbow Connection,” written by Paul Williams and Kenny Asher, performed by Kermit the Frog and The Muppets, and, of course, “Mah Na Mah Na,” featuring Mahna Mahna and The Snowths. And, of course, a Muppet movie wouldn’t be complete without covering classic rock songs and contemporary favorites. The Muppet Barbershop Quartet has taken on Nirvana’s classic “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” while Camilla and the Chickens cluck their way through Cee Lo Green’s hit “Forget You.”
“The Muppets don’t sound like anyone else,” says McKenzie, “and that’s what’s great about them. It was a huge honor to work on the [film] and I took the job very seriously, even when I was recording a man pretending to be a penguin.”
Opening across the Philippines in March, “The Muppets” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.
New “Wrath of the Titans” Trailer Unleashed!
Warner Bros. has just unveiled the new trailer for its upcoming 3D fantasy-adventure “Wrath of the Titans”. Watch below:
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, “Wrath of the Titans” stars Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson as gods at war. A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) - the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson) - is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.
Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.
Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar RamÃrez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.
Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.
Opening across the Philippines in March, “Wrath of the Titans” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Danny DeVito Voices “The Lorax” in Dr Seuss’ The Lorax
Danny DeVito Voices “The Lorax” in Dr Seuss’ The Lorax
Lending the vocal talent as the iconic title character of the Lorax is no other than Danny DeVito is one of the entertainment industry’s most versatile players, excelling as an actor, producer and director.
When casting the actors who would voice the characters in Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, the filmmakers looked to a variety of performers to find not just the ideal actors for the film, but also the perfect people to embody Dr. Seuss’ iconic characters.
Cast as the gruff yet comical Lorax was legendary comic actor Danny DeVito, who currently entertains TV audiences weekly with his portrayal of Frank Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
It is always a challenge to cast title characters across the globe in a way that preserves the integrity of both the animated character and the actor’s original performance. The incredible personality that DeVito brought to the Lorax in the English version was so compelling that the team wondered if he could capture that same brilliance in other languages as well.
DeVito was approached with the seemingly impossible task of voicing his character in four different languages. Despite the fact that he wasn’t fluent in any language beyond English, DeVito is always game for a challenge. He agreed to voice the character in Spanish, Italian, Russian and German. Against all odds, he nailed not only the local dialects but also the comedic timing in those languages.
DeVito, a father of three, is a lifelong fan of Dr. Seuss’ books and is an environmental advocate. Seeing the artists’ sketch of the Lorax made him even more eager to work on the project.
How did you feel when you were first offered the part in the THE LORAX?
I was very excited. I always had an affinity for the Lorax because we kind of resemble each other. Playing this role was a real gift because the Lorax is so dear to my heart.
How do you see your character, the Lorax?
The Lorax is way cool. He’s a guy who fights for what he believes in. Once the destruction of the Trufulla valley is beyond his control, he had to sit back and wait for the one person who might be able to make a change. And that mustache, that baby’s big!
How was it to play the Lorax?
I loved playing the Lorax. Chris Meledandri (Producer) brought me the rendering of the Lorax, which was so beautiful, and said that they wanted me to be the voice of the character. It was such an honor. It was a lot of fun and I had a great time. I’m very happy to be part of it.
Were you also attracted to the fact that this story has universal appeal?
This is a movie that you can take your kids to and you won't be bored at all. It’s very entertaining and fun. Although my character, the Lorax, is a little gruff and grumpy it's okay because his heart is in the right place. Part of the charm of it for me is to know that while I'm voicing the Lorax, Danny is back there somewhere working with him.
Is the movie very much like the book that it is adapted from?
The story is very much like the book but with the added attraction of romance. In THE LORAX, Zac Efron’s character, Ted, falls in love with the girl down the block, Audrey (voiced by Taylor Swift). More than anything, Audrey wants to see a real tree. It becomes Ted’s mission to find a tree for Audrey.
You must have a vivid imagination, to be inside a booth and see yourself in a world like that. What were you thinking?
I’m in the booth, I got the script, I know the story and I understand what the Lorax wants. He wants to prevent the environment where the animals live from changing. That was inspiring and helped me to bring the passion into the character.
Are there strong messages that children can take away from this movie?
Oh, yes. We should all have the tenacity to stand up for something that we believe in and know is right. When you see this movie you can identify with the message of taking care of the environment. Each person can do their part. The more people do it and the more they spread that message, the more the whole entire world will begin to know the importance of doing it, too. It sounds like an insurmountable task but it’s possible. You have to have faith and it’s there in THE LORAX.
Besides being a story about a young boy's courage there's also a love story involved.
There's a beautiful love story in THE LORAX. This kid, Ted is really determined to find a real tree for the girl of his dreams, Audrey. Ted has never seen a tree and has no idea where to find one. Yet still, he is determined to give Audrey the desire of her heart. Ted is a man on a mission. Which is a really cool thing to be.
How was it working with Chris Renaud (Director) and Illumination Entertainment?
They were all very, very good. They knew exactly what they wanted. Chris Meledandri (Producer) was very supportive of everything. Sometimes Chris Renaud would be in Paris so we would Skype. All in all, the experience was good.

It also engaged its listeners and provided an avenue for its DJ’s to interact with them during the awarding event.
ABS-CBN bagged the most number of Anvil awards among TV networks with four recognitions as compared to GMA’s three and TV5’s one.
