Xian Lim is now a certified platinum-selling OPM artists, with his
debut album 'So It's You' has already been certified PLATINUM by the
Philippine Association of the Recording Industry (PARI) this last
month of 2014.
To achieve a Platinum status, an album must have sold 15,000 units and
Xian Lim's album sales reached that I think 2 to 3 months ago, but
it's only this month that it has been certified by PARI. He is yet to
receive officially the Platinum Award on ASAP, and that's possibly in
2015 already.
2014 was actually a tough year for OPM artists, as there were only 7
who had albums that reached platinum mark this year, the latest
addition was Xian Lim just this December.
The other 6 were the controversial New Bilibid Prison high-profile
inmate Herbert Colanggo aka Herbert C. for his 'Kinabukasan' album,
which was recorded inside jail, Julie Anne San Jose (9x platinum for
her self-title album), Noel Cabangon ('Tuloy ang Byahe'), Gloc-9
('Lihim at Liham), TomDen loveteam Tom Rodriguez and Dennis Trillo
(for their 'TomDen' album) and Daniel Padilla ('I Heart You').
In 2013, there were 10 'Platinum' albums, and 2014's number of
'Platinum' albums (7) is already the lowest in 6 years.
The number of gold-selling albums meanwhile in 2014 (18) was slightly
higher than in 2013 (17).
Among digital downloads, it's only Sam Concepcion who had been given
platinum certification this 2014 for 'Mahal na Mahal' and 'Dati' (2X).
Keep on supporting our local artists by buying their original albums,
so that we'll have many gold and platinum-sellers next year.
