A woman from Nashville, Tennessee had a habit of going to the tanning salon to lay on the sunbed for 20 minutes, 3 times a week.
All this started ever since she was 13 years old up until she was 26.
Jade Thrasher, a nurse, posted shocking images of a coin-sized hole she had cut out of her nose as a result of all that tanning sessions. In 2014, at the age of 24, she was diagnosed with skin cancer.
By January 2015, she decided to have surgery. Surgeons had to cut out a circle the size of a five pence piece from above her right nostril. Then, they replaced the skin with flesh taken from her chest – where she now has a six-inch scar.
As the cancer had been caught early, she did not need chemotherapy or radiotherapy, but she had to take two months off work to recover afterwards and now has full body check ups every three months to make sure the disease has not spread.
She also returned to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in January this year to have another procedure to sand down her nose.
‘After surgery, for three weeks I could not bend over or do anything for myself because the graft on my sore was so crucial that I wasn’t allowed to apply pressure to my head,’ Jade, now 26, said.
