Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez linked to drug group based on Espinosa's affidavit

Actor and now Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez along with other Leyte officials may be involved in the illegal drug trade, said a Criminal Investigation and Detection Group official during the Senate inquiry on Espinosa killing.

Chief Inspector Leo Laraga from CIDG Region 8 based his assumptions on the affidavit of slain Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa.

In his Facebook page, Gomez shared a a statement coming from his counsel Atty. Alex Avisado Jr. According to his counsel, Gomez and his wife Cong. Lucy Torres-Gomez have always been against drugs.

Gomez has also denied the accusation through a text message sent to entertainment portal pep.ph which he called it a circus.

"That is ridiculous and outright laughable", Gomez said in a text message. "I will not dignify that with an answer. Huwag nila akong isama sa circus nila.", he added.

Gomez was sworn to office as Ormoc Mayor June 30 this year after defeating former Mayor Edward Codilla las election. While not in politics, he became a drug crusader through his Mamamayan Ayaw sa Droga (MAD).
