'The Super Parental Guardians' movie was a super mega hit in the Philippine Box Office on its opening day, winning over other new releases 'Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers' and 'Moana'.
As announced by producer Star Cinema and star Vice Ganda, 'The Super Parental Guardians' collected a total gross receipts of P68-million for its first day, November 30, 2016.
That's now the highest opening day gross for a Filipino film, smashing the previous P60.2-million record set by 'My Bebe Love' last year.
The Vice Ganda-Coco Martin movie which was submitted to the 42nd Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2016) but was rejected has just proven that it doesn't need to be an
MMFF entry to be able to amass such huge earnings. It marked the first time in 5 years that a Vice Ganda movie wasn't shown during MMFF.
And it was one successful move to have the movie shown right away after it was rejected for MMFF last November 18, despite the limited time for the movie promo.
Vice Ganda, who is most likely to retain his Phenomenal Box Office Star title with Coco Martin, has tweeted thanks on Twitter for the movie's huge opening day sales and even offered it to the late Wenn Deramas, director of his past 7 movies.
"I share this success to you Direk Wenn! Thank you for preparing me for this day. I hope im making you happy and proud. I miss you Mader!," he tweeted.
Directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal, 'The Super Parental Guardians' also stars breakout kiddie actors Awra Briguela and Onyok Pineda. It's now showing in over 300 theaters nationwide.
Will it soon be the highest-grossing Filipino film of all-time? The record to beat is P529M set by the MMFF 2015 festival top-grosser 'Beauty and the Bestie', which also starred Vice and Coco. - Mykiru.ph
