The film where he plays his first starring role, "Moonlight Over Baler", is still showing in several theaters nationwide and he's happy to be getting positive feedback from viewers for his fine performance in his dual roles as Nestor, a soldier in World War II, and as Kenji, a Japanese photographer. Is it true that he's not the first choice for his role but his Kuya Aljur?
"Yes, sinabi naman sa'kin ni Direk Gil Portes na the role is really meant for my Kuya Aljur, but he got busy with a new soap when shooting was about to start so they had to look for a replacement.
They had an audition at marami kaming nag-try out. I certainly didn't mind na hindi ako ang original choice. I was just so happy when I was informed na ako nga ang napili for the dual roles of Nestor and Kenji. The movie was inspired by the true story of Direk Gil's aunt who waited for the return of her boyfriend na lumaban sa giyera, played here by Ms. Elizabeth Oropesa, pero hindi na bumalik yung lalaki. Then years later, she meets a young man na kamukha-kamukha ng nawala niyang kasintahan. The movie answers the question na: until when are you willing to wait for a lost love? Very touching ang story and all those who've already seen it say na bagay na bagay ito sa Valentine's Day as it's about true and faithful love."
