MOTHER LILY MONTEVERDE won the Manuel L. Quezon Gawad Parangal award from the Quezon City government held at the Seda Hotel last Thursday night. The award is part of the celebration of the 78th Foundation Day of Quezon City. "I'm 78, so magkasintanda pala kami ng Quezon City," says Mother Lily. "At ka-birthday ko rin si Pres. Quezon dahil pareho kaming born on August 19."
Our warmest congratulations to Mother Lily. The award is for her being a productive businesswoman who's one of the most prominent business personalities in the country's premiere city. She owns the Imperial Palace Suites, one of the pioneering big hotels in the city located at the corner of Morato and Timog Avenues. She also owns the Valencia Events Place and Regal Entertainment with offices at Valencia St., QC. In the video presentation for her, her invaluable contributions as a film producer of over 1,000 movies was cited.
After she got her award, it turned out that the next guest performer of the night is Gabby Concepcion, who went down the stage and even danced with Mother Lily. Later on, when host Andre Felix asked Gabby how much Mother Lily means to him, Gabo said that without Mother Lily, there would be no Gabby in showbiz as it's her who discovered him in 1980 and launched him as one of the leads in "Katorse".
He thanked Mother Lily profusely for all her help in his career and she was teary eyed because of his praises for her. Among all the awardees, the Regal producer is the most well received, with all the people in the ballroom warmly applauding her and a lot of people wanted to take their picture with her.
The Manuel Quezon Gawad Parangal is given annually to both institutions, establishments and individual awardees. Among the group awardees are Bantayog ng Bayani Center, UP Singing Ambassadors, Little Quiapo, Bayanihan Dance Company, AFP Medical Center, Sulo Hotel. The individual awardees are Zenaida Quezon Avancena, humanitarian (daughter of the late Pres. Manuel Luis Quezon); Orly Mercado, public servant; Corazon Generelao Inigo, choreographer; Cielito Habito, economist; John Lesaca, violinist; Leah Roman Reyes, special educator; Samson Lim, businessman; Justice Narciso Nario; Dr. Dionisia Rola, educator; and former Sen. Aquilino Pimentel.
