CHRISTIAN BABLES won his first acting award as the gay Barbs in "Die Beautiful" and it opened a lot of new doors for his acting career. He got plenty of new movie offers and he's supposed to do the new series on Barbs, "Born Beautiful", for Cignal TV but, all of a sudden, he backed out, also from the management of the folks who helped him get his breakout role in "Die Beautiful", Directors Jun Lana and Perci Intalan.
That move backfired on Christian and 2017 passed without his career really booming as expected. Instead, he just played supporting roles in the movies of Sarah Geronimo and Kim Chiu. People thought he has no "utang na loob" to the people who made him win awards and shine. Now, we heard he's being managed by Boy Abunda.
In the 2017 Metro-Manila Filmfest, the breakout star is theatre actress Joanna Ampil, who won the filmfest best actress award for her singing role in the movie, "Ang Larawan". Later on, she'd win the best new movie actress award for the same film in the recent Star Awards. For this, she'll have to thank Girlie Rodis, her manager who also produced "Ang Larawan".
Now, the latest news about Joanna is that she has left Girlie as manager and we heard she approached Noel Ferrer (who produced her recent Valentine concert) to help her in charting her career. Again, the sentiment among showbiz people is like that of Christian Bables. Si Girlie ang nagluto at nagsaing, iba ang kumain.
Someone tells us Girlie willingly let go of Joanna as she's now busy with her other "Larawan" star, Rachel Alejandro, who just did a sexy pictorial for FHM Mag. We're told Joanna also has some demands that some folks think are unrealistic at this point. To begin with, at 42 years old, she's no longer spring chicken and we all know the public gives so much premium on youth.
She can still do acting roles on TV and the movies, but considering her age, she can no longer do lead roles meant for younger actresses. Well, still and all, here's hoping Joanna (and also Christian) can make the most of their acting awards and get to do more successful projects in local showbiz.
