"For me, hopefully, iyong susunod na babaeng makakapiling ko, ‘yun na ‘yun sana. ‘Yung wala na akong doubt sa sarili ko. I think I owe it to the next person,” Jake said at the shooting of the digital film “Anino” in Antipolo City on Wednesday, February 29.
Jake admits he goes out on friendly dates, but there’s “nothing too serious” for now. Getting into another relationship seems to be the least of his concerns right now. Jake would like to focus on career and family first.
“May mga dating-dating, pero now nothing too serious. Seryoso muna ako sa pamilya ko at sa trabaho.”
Jake has many things to thank for, including his nomination at the 2012 Star Awards for Movie for Best Supporting Actor and his new Kapamilya TV drama with Shaina Magdayao, “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo.”
“Hindi mahirap maging single kasi nandito ang pamilya ko. Katulad nang marami naman akong pinasasalamatan tulad ng nomination, magagandang proyekto. So, now tahimik lang din ang love life,” he added.
Working with Shaina
“Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo,” Jake’s reunion project with Shaina, has proven how much the latter has changed as an actress.
“Finally, she's a woman. Hindi na siya yung Shaina na we all know simula noong bata. Ibang-iba na siya, magugulat talaga kayo kung paano siya naging palaban sa proyektong ito,” Jake said.
He has worked with Shaina in “Rubi,” and has observed her up close when they shot most of the scenes for “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo” in Doha, Qatar.
Will he court her if they are both single?
“Hindi, kaibigan kami ni John Lloyd (Cruz, Shaina’s boyfriend) eh,” Jake replied, laughing.
He added that he and Shaina never had a chance to get into a relationship due to “wrong timing.”
"Kasi simula nang magkatrabaho kami ni Shaina may girlfriend ako. Tapos nagka-boyfriend siya. Parang never kaming nag-abot na pareho kaming single,” he shared.
Jake said Shaina possesses qualities most men like. He even described Shaina as the country’s Scarlett Johansson.
"She's an amazing woman and I guess every guy fantasizes to have a girl like Shaina. Kasi sobrang empowered siya. Now, she's very independent. Sobrang ganda niya,” he said.
ASAP incident with Melissa
Jake also opened up about the incident in “ASAP Rocks,” which saw their co-hosts teasing him and ex-girlfriend Melissa Ricks on stage.
He is disappointed at what happened, since Jake wants to settle the issue on their own, not on TV.
“Actually, medyo nagtampo ako sa ‘ASAP’ talaga. Like what I said in one interview, kung magkakaayos kami (ni Melissa), siguro we'll do it on our time. Hindi porke't nasa live TV kami, maaayos na ang problema namin.”
Jake hopes he and Melissa can still be friends.
“When she's ready, I'll be there to be her friend. But right now, I'm really proud of her kasi ang ganda ng soap nila, yung ‘Walang Hanggan,’ he said.
'Anino'
Meanwhile, Jake relates that joining “Anino” is his way of thanking Star Magic head Johnny Manahan.
“Anino” is Star Magic’s digital film for its workshop talents.
"Flattered ako na ako ang napili ni Mr. M (Manahan). At the same time, ang mga ganitong oportunidad, isa na rin siguro ito sa mga pasasalamat na gusto kong iparating kay Mr. M.”
Jake wants to join Star Magic workshops again the way he did as a newbie years back.
"Noong inalok sa akin ni Mr. M ito, sobrang na-appreciate ko rin ang passion ng workshoppers, kasi nga I myself was a workshopper. Nakakagulat din ang enthusiasm nila na umarte, gumawa ng pelikula.”
“Anino” is a digital film directed by Rahyan Carlos for Star Magic workshop.
