According to Derek, he has yet to make a decision.
“Wala pa,” the actor told members of the press about his rumored move during the press conference for Star Cinema’s upcoming movie, “Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang.”
The Kapamilya leading man revealed that he and his father met with ABS-CBN executives Gabby Lopez and Malou Santos on the day his contract expired. However, he said the network hasn’t given him any offers.
Consulting his family
“I’m gonna meet with my family this weekend. Pero hihintayin naming yung offer ng channel two,” Derek revealed.
“But we had a great meeting today. Sir Gabby (Lopez) had a lot of great things to say to me, tungkol sa pagkatao ko, which I really appreciated. Sinabi ko naman sa kanya na my mind is open for everything. Ang gusto ko lang nga is sariling kusa na nangyari sa kanila and then I’ll just compare whatever.”
He added, “So one step at a time this weekend. Kung umabot yung offer, siguro we can come up with a decision by next week.”
Asked for his ‘wish list’
The “Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang” leading man said he was asked to make a wish list during his meeting with the ABS-CBN executives. But he’d rather have the network make him an offer instead.
“Siguro, nagkaroon din ng confusion kasi sabi nila, ‘Make your wish list.’ E, hindi ako ganun na artista. Ayokong maging diva, ayokong magdemand,” Derek explained.
“Yung gusto ko, sariling kusa. So I want it to come from them. Ang trato ko sa ABS is pamilya, so manggaling na lang sa kanila kung ano ang gusto nilang ibigay.”
Open for everything
The rumors that Derek was moving to TV5 first broke late last year when Cristy Fermin announced in “Paparazzi: Showbiz Express” that the hunk will become a Kapatid in 2012.
However, Derek said there is no concrete offer from TV5 just yet.
“I have a contract with Smart because I am a Smart endorser but I have no contract with TV5,” he said. Smart Communications is owned by Manny V. Pangilinan. MVP is also the chairman of Media Quest Holdings, which has controlling equity of TV5.
But, is he open to transferring to another network? “I’ve always been open,” Derek answere
Not about the money
The actor, clarified, however, that his decision to stay with ABS-CBN or move to another station isn’t motivated by money.
“And I’ve proven that,” he said. “Two years ago I was offered something and I remained loyal to this network. Di ko na babanggitin, but I was offered two years ago and I showed my loyalty by not demanding or asking them to match or give me half.”
He reiterated his love for the network and recognizes what the station has done for him.
“And there has also been a lot of disappointing times for me,” he admitted. “But I guess yun yung iwe-weigh namin. And we’ll see where my future will go, what’s best for me.”
The 32-year-old added, “Tumatanda na rin ako. Lahat yan pag-uusapan namin. I can’t make a decision right now but we will weigh all the factors that are involved.”
Pressure?
In the meantime, he will be busy promoting “Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang,” his follow-up movie after the very successful “No Other Woman” and “The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin.”
Is he pressured for “Corazon” to match the box-office draw set by his last two movies?
“Habang ginagawa naming itong pelikulang ito, hindi ako iniisip yung mga ganun. Ang importante sa akin, I give 200 percent, I give in what I can contribute to the project para ito maging isang magandang proyekto. Ang importante sa akin is if I’ve content with how I performed, with how it came out,” he said.
“Kapag tapos na, doon na pumapasok yung pressure if it’s gonna do well. But whether it does or it doesn’t, I’m very proud of this project.”
“Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang” also stars Erich Gonzales and will premiere March 14, 2012.
