"Promise ring pa rin siya and lagi ko pa rin siyang suot," Shamcey said in an interview at the press conference of Yahoo! OMG Awards in Seventh High on Wednesday, June 20.
Shamcey said that they are "going strong." And she hopes that the promise ring, which her boyfriend surprised her with after one of their mall visits last year, could lead to their engagement.
"Iyon ang pinanghahawakan namin palagi na whatever happens, our relationship is not perfect and we always have to keep our promises. Iyon ang palagi naming sinasabi sa isa't isa, na whatever happens, whatever struggles we face, whatever promises we make, we always have to keep it," she said.
Boyfriend’s support
Shamcey added that her boyfriend played a big part in her victory as Miss Universe second runner-up.
“I was away from my family and had no contact with anyone. It was him who kept believing in me, supporting me na ‘kaya mo yan’ through text. Walang internet in Brazil (where last year’s Miss Universe pagent was held). You had to pay. And it’s expensive.”
As for being engaged, Shamcey said, "If ask din niya ako na mag-ano. Dapat siya ang tanungin ninyo, hindi po ako. I'm just waiting."
The beauty queen, who has guest-hosted in the noontime variety show “It’s Showtime” admits she is trying to learn hosting.
"Aside from hosting stints, we're planning a show. But of course, we can't tell you guys yet. I' m doing a lot of workshops rin for hosting. Hopefully, makita niyo na ako in the coming weeks. I'm also still doing activities for Bb. Pilipinas," she said.
Learning how to host
Asked if she will soon venture into acting, Shamcey said that she likes to focus first on hosting.
"I'm not sure yet. Hosting muna. It's also my first time to host and like in Bb. Pilipinas or beauty pageants, it's like starting from scratch. To succeed in one area, I need to focus first," she said.
Shamcey, who won in the Major Impact category of the Yahoo OMG Awards last year, is happy to be nominated again, this time as Celebrity of the Year.
"I'm so happy na nominated pa rin ako this year. Sa akin, whether I win or not, happy na po ako.”
