Sarah Geronimo is "Bayanihan" Ambassador

Popstar Princess Sarah Geronimo was tapped by the Philippine Army to serve as its 'Bayanihan' ambassador.

'Bayanihan' is the army's security plan which aims to end rebellion by addressing its roots like poverty and access to basic services while stressing the need for various sectors to participate in peace and development programs.

According to army spokesman Maj. Harold Cabunoc said that Sarah Geronimo is tapped as the Bayanihan ambassadress because she is a perfect role model for the youth who remained humble despite her lofty status; well-respected in the industry and has the great potential to lure people to be involved in solving community problems.

Sarah Geronimo sang the security plan’s theme song, Bayanihan: Para sa Kapayapaan the music video of which was launched on Wednesday. The AFP was able to save P10 million after Sarah offered her services for free upon learning that the project was for the government’s peace advocacy.

Kris Aquino Says Melai Cantiveros is Improving as a Host

Comedienne Melai Cantiveros is improving as a TV host, according to host-actress Kris Aquino.

In her morning show "KrisTV" on Wednesday, Aquino recognized Cantiveros' efforts to improve her skills as a television host.

"Ako nararamdaman ko talaga, how much you are evolving as a host, dito (sa 'KrisTV'). Promise," Aquino told Cantiveros.

"Kasi nga nararamdaman ko na you are studying. Nagbabasa ka ng research, tapos tina-try mo talaga, pati sa pananamit, sa pag-aayos sa sarili," she added.

The former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate thanked Aquino and said she's just happy to be part of the morning talk show.

When Will Judy Ann Santos - Piolo Pascual Reunion Movie Ever Happen

If there’s one love team that the public surely misses watching onscreen, it may well be that of Judy Ann Santos and Piolo Pascual’s.

The long wait would’ve been over with the Chito Roño film, “Undo,” which supposedly seeks to pair the two six years after their last project, “Don’t Give Up On Us.”

“Undo” was initially a Piolo Pascual-Kris Aquino movie. However, the Queen of All Media announced its cancellation in August. PEP Scoopbox reported on Nov. 28 that she was “replaced” by Judy Ann.

However, a follow-up post indicated that Piolo is now out of the film as well, making a question mark out of Juday’s leading man. It was noted though that “one big name being floated is John Lloyd Cruz.”

While we remain wondering when Juday and Piolo will ever get back together—onscreen, of course—let’s look back at how their team-up was shaped throughout the years.

* It was in 1998 when viewers got a glimpse of what would be one of the biggest tandems of the generation through the drama series “Esperanza,” with Juday in the title role. Piolo was involved in the project as Brian, a man with a hidden agenda who eventually falls in love with Esperanza. At the time, Juday had another leading man, Wowie de Guzman.

* The Juday-Piolo love team was launched on the big screen in 2000 with the film “Kahit Isang Saglit,” which also starred Leandro Muñoz.

* A year later came a double treat for Juday-Piolo fans: the drama series “Sa Puso Ko, Iingatan Ka,” which ran for almost two years, and another romantic film, “Bakit ‘Di Totohanin?” This was followed by another film, “’Til There Was You” (2003).

* 2006 became a controversial year for Judy Ann and Piolo in spite of the success of their movie “Don’t Give Up On Us” and drama series “Sa Piling Mo.” The actor had a row with Juday’s now-husband Ryan Agoncillo—who was her boyfriend at the time—which sparked off when Piolo reportedly made a comment about the two's relationship, something that did not sit well with Ryan.

* Piolo and Ryan eventually patched things up in 2007 at the wake of Maja Salvador’s father, former actor Ross Rival.

* Just last month, Piolo and Juday were photographed together at the ABS-CBN Trade Event. They’ve both expressed their openness to work with each other again—when the right project comes, they say.

Angeline Quinto Reveals She Almost Gave Up Singing

After turning 23 last November 26, Angeline Quinto granted Kris Aquino an exclusive tell-all interview on Kris TV along with both her biological mother and her adoptive mother. The talented singer, who grew up under the care of her then 48-year-old adopted mother, Sylvia “Mama Bab” Quinto, shared how she discovered she was an adopted child.

“Yung ipinagtataka ko dati nung elementaryako kasi nakikita ko yung mga nanay nung mga kaklase ko parang ang babata. Hanggang sa meron ngang isang bata na nakaaway ko noon na away bata lang naman pero sabi niya sa akin, ‘Ampon ka naman eh!’ So alam pala nung mga kapitbahay. Nung sinabing ampon ako nagulat ako, inisip ko, ‘Bakit niya nasabi yun?’ So nagtanong ako sa lola ko,” she told Kris.

Angeline said her lola did not want her to find out the truth right away. “Nung una hindi. Umiiwas siya sa mga tanong ko tuwing kakausapin ko siya. Hanggang sa mga nine years old na siguro ako inamin na niya sa akin,” she recalled.

Angeline’s Mama Bab also shared on Kris TV how she found out about her daughter’s singing talent. “Mga seven years old, kanta ng kanta yan. Pag may pinabili ako diyan sa palengke, pagbalik niya sabi niya, ‘Hindi na pinabayaran sa akin, pinakanta na lang ako, ganun,’” she shared.

Angeline said that she grew up joining various singing contests, but it was her loss on a now-defunct singing competition that almost made her quit pursuing a career in showbiz. “Nagsimula kasi yun saStar For a Night nung natalo ako kay Sarah Geronimo. 12 years old ako nun. Eh parang hindi naman natanggap ng tatay ko, ng kuya ko, ng lola ko na hindi ako nanalo. Pinapliwanag ko naman sa kanila na ganun naman ang contest ‘di ba? May nananalo, may natatalo. Parang lahat sila nag-iba po sa akin. Parang disappointed sila. Pero si Mama Bab hindi. Dun nagsimula, nabarkada ako, natuto ako uminom, ganyan. Aminado naman ako dun,” she admitted.

Mama Bab admitted Angeline went through a difficult phase that year. “Kasi maraming nang-iinis sa kanya. Sinasabi, ‘Ang boses mo pang-piyesta piyesta lang.’ Parang nawawalan na siya ng gana. Sabi ko, ‘Ay hindi para sa ‘yo yan. May star pang naghihintay sa yo.’ Nung nabarkada siya, masakit sa loob ko pero kami ni Angeline, hindi ko yan pinapgalitan eh. Kasi pag papagalitan ko ito, hindi na uuwi. Pero hindi ko kinikibo, mga two years yun,” she said on Kris TV.

After emerging as the top winner in Star Power last year, Angeline said she never stopped hoping that one day she would finally get to meet her biological mother. Although several women came forward claiming Angeline as their daughter, it was Rose Marie “Susan” Mabao who turned out to be the real deal. Before she came forward, other women also claimed to be her mother which was proven untrue via DNA testing. “Naawa po ako kay Aling Veronica (one of the women who claimed to be her mother) kasi pakiramdam ko naman na parang nawawalan siya ng dalawang anak. Matteo Guidicelli Wants to Focus With Work

Matteo Guidicelli clarified that he’s not thinking of getting back together with ex-girlfriend Maja Salvador. As previously reported, Maja was caught giving Matteo a quick hug in their dressing room for Sarah G Live last November 11. They were also spotted together at the Star Magic benefit concert at Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill last Saturday, November 24.

But Matteo maintained that they’ve decided to just be good friends. “Maja and I are okay. We talk, we’re good friends, that’s it. Basta my concentration is Paraiso talaga and I don’t want to lose my focus. There’s no problem about being friends again. I’m happy we’re friends because I don’t like making enemies. I’m really proud andmasaya talaga ako na magkaibigan kami talaga,” he said in an interview.

The 23-year-old further explained that he won’t be able to juggle a romantic relationship with his showbiz career and his triathlon training. Lack of time for each other was the reason why they broke up last August. “I guess different ang priorities namin ngayon. And I realize that I want to concentrate on my work first for now. I’m giving it all sa Paraiso.”

When asked if there’s a chance that they could end up together again in the near future, he reiterated that his love life is his last priority at the moment. “I’m not thinking of it right now e. Inisip ko talaga trabaho.”

In the meantime, Matteo was very happy to be part of the Sunpiology Sunset Run because he’s also an advocate of fitness and healthy lifestyle. In fact, his triathlon team also joined the run together with his dad. “Sunpiology is a very good cause. It’s a charity run. Tapos [nagkaroon din ng] benefit concertang Star Magic. It’s a good venue to spread the word about fitness. For my preparation, I always train for triathlon so this run is also like a training session for me. After getting her ‘perfect gift’ from her husband Zoren Legaspi through their grand mob wedding, seasoned actress and TV host Carmina Villaroel will give the TV viewers a special kind of present this Saturday (December 1) as she topbills the Christmas countdown special of ABS-CBN’s top-rating fantasy-drama anthology “Wansapantaym.”

In an episode titled ‘Perfect Gift,’ Carmina will give life to the role of Joanna, a woman who did not experience a beautiful childhood. Because of her parents’ shortcomings when she was still young, Joanna did everything while growing up so she can to give everything that her son asks for. Despite of the expensive toys and clothes that she has provided, will Joanna realize the greater importance of giving time for her own son?

Together with Carmina in the ‘Perfect Gift’ episode Jeffrey Santos, Carlos Agassi, Yogo Singh, Janica Pareño, Harvy Bautista, and Dexie Daulat. It was written by Mariami Tanangco-Domingo and directed by Tots Sanchez-Mariscal.

Katulad ng mainit na pagtanggap ng mga manonood sa kanilang teleserye, hindi rin inaasahan ni Enrique Gil na magiging maganda ang takbo ng kanyang showbiz career sa loob lamang ng halos apat na taon. Bukod sa Princess And I, abala rin si Enrique sa shooting ng 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival entry na The Strangers. Madalas rin siyang nakikita sa ilang TV commercials at print ads—mga bagay na hindi inakala ni Enrique noon na mangyayari sa kanya.

Pag-alala ng 20-year-old Star Magic talent, “Kasi kapag sinasabi sa akin, ‘O, may show ka.’ ‘O, sige, gagawin ko yung show.’ Ganun lang ako, e. Parang hindi ko iniisip na kailangan kong galingan ito para makilala, wala naman, e. Kung ano ang iniisip mo sa eksena, yun ang ibibigay mo.”

Umaasa si Enrique na matagal pa siyang mananatili sa showbiz. Pero aminado siya na hindi naman permanente ang kasikatan. Kaya kung sakali, sabi niya, “Kapag nakapag-ipon na, medyo relax muna ako at saka family business muna para may time ako sa family.”

Miss Earth 2012 Winners

German-Filipino model Stephany Stefanowitz bagged the Miss Earth-Air title during the 12th Miss Earth coronation night at Versailles Palace in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, on Saturday, sustaining the Philippines’ winning streak in the global competition.

Czech Republic’s Tereza Fajksová, 23, was crowned Miss Earth 2012, beating 79 other international delegates.

Stefanowitz, 22, also boosted the country’s pageant record for 2012, following the victories of Queneerich Rehman and Nicole Schmitz, who entered the semifinals of the Miss World and Miss International pageants, respectively.

In 2011, Philippine representative Athena Imperial was proclaimed Miss Earth-Water. Two other Filipino representatives advanced to the Top 4 in previous years—Catherine Untalan and Sandra Seifert, who were crowned 2006 Miss Earth-Water and 2009 Miss Earth-Air, respectively.

Fajksová took home $20,000 worth of management contract from pageant organizer Carousel Productions, $1,000 worth of diamond, pearl and gold jewelry from the Amparito Collection of M. Lhuillier Jewelers, a five-night stay at the Best Western F1 Hotel, a Naomi pearl necklace, MyPhone cell phone, a year’s supply of Ever Bilena cosmetics, shoes from Alberto, crystals and precious stones from Charms and Crystals by Joy Lim, a Canon Pixma printer and a specially designed Miss Earth pendant from jewelry designer Ramona Haar who designed the Miss Earth crown.

This year’s competition took sustainable energy as its central theme, following the United Nations General Assembly’s declaration of 2012 as the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All, which aims to ensure universal access to modern energy services.

Fan favorite Osmariel Villalobos of Venezuela, who was also proclaimed Miss Photogenic, Best in Resorts Wear, Miss Golden Sunset Resort and Miss Ever Bilena, was proclaimed Miss Earth-Water, while Camila Brant of Brazil was crowned Miss Earth-Fire.

During the final round of competition, the top four delegates were asked the question, “What is your defining moment as a woman?”

Stefanowitz, earlier voted “Darling of the Press,” replied: “I am a woman of the earth and I’m here to fight and conserve and preserve our environment. My advocacy is basically for the betterment of the environment, because this year we are celebrating the year of sustainable and renewable energy for the rest of the world. And of course, Mother Earth is the most beautiful gift that God has given us. It is our task to fight to preserve it.”

Fajksová, who did not ask for an interpreter, apologized for her minimal grasp of the English language, and responded: “I’m so sorry but I don’t understand the question. I will try to send this message: We have to protect Mother Earth. She gives us everything we need in our lives. So let’s respect her so she’ll respect us.”

The Philippines, Venezuela and Brazil all figured in the Top 4 of last year’s competition, also held in the Philippines.

Aside from Imperial, also in the Top 4 last year were Drielly Bennettone of Brazil who was crowned Miss Earth-Air and Caroline Medina of Venezuela who was hailed Miss Earth-Fire.

Last year’s winner, Olga Alava of Ecuador, turned over her title to Fajksová.

India’s Prachi Mishra was voted Miss Congeniality by her fellow delegates, while Thailand’s Waratthaya Wongchayaporn was adjudged Miss Talent. Both delegates were heavily favored by pageant pundits to advance to the winners’ circle, but failed to crack the semifinals.

Among this year’s judges were Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward Hagedorn, US Agency for International Development deputy head for environment and energy Joseph Foltz, professional cager Bobby Ray Parks and national rugby team “Volcanoes” captain Harry Morris.

John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo Celebrate a Decade of Onscreen Magic

As they celebrate their tenth year anniversary as a love team, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo retraced the beginning of their working relationship and how they eventually became good friends in a special edition of StarStudio magazine. The magazine is divided into sections featuring a timeline of all their projects together and their individual accomplishments and takes a deeper look into their onscreen partnership.

In one of the articles, Bea shares that it came to a point that director Lauren Dyogi helped fix their lack of interaction off cam when they were shooting the movie Now That I Have You. “Sabi niya sa amin, ‘Ano bang problema n’yo? LUV U Cast Sees Upcoming Youth-Oriented Show Competition in a Positive Light

Sa pagkakapanalo ng programang LUV U as Best Youth Oriented Show Program sa nakaraang 26th PMPC Star Awards for Television, punong-puno ng pasasalamat ang ilan sa cast na dumalo para tumanggap ng award na sina Miles Ocampo, Marco Gumabao at Igi Boy Flores. Nang kunin namin ang reaksiyon nila tungkol sa kanilang pagkakapanalo, ang hindi pa ring makapaniwalang si Igi Boy ay hindi maitago ang tuwa. “Napaka-espesyal po ng award na ito para sa amin kasi, ‘Wow, parang Star Awards, LUV U?’ Grabe, ang saya-saya ‘di ba?”

Sobra din ang pasasalamat nina Miles sa mga patuloy na sumusubaybay sa kanilang program.“Sa lahat ng sumusubaybay sa LUV U maraming, maraming salamat po sa inyo kasi kung hinid rin po dahil sa inyo wala rin po tongaward na ito, papangako po namin na mas lalo po namin pagagandahin yung show. Ngunit aminado rin naman sila na mas may dagdag pressure hindi lang dahil sa pagkakapanalo ng award kung di dahil sila ang pinantatapat ng Kapamilya network sa mga youth oriented shows sa kabilang istasyon at sa ilang mga teen stars sa kabilang bakod na may sarili ding mga fan bases na hindi naman itinatago nina Miles. “Ngayon po na nabalitaan namin na may dalawang magbubukas sa dalawang network nakakakaba po siyempre kasi parang bagong pagsubok nanaman sa programa pero tinatake po namin yan as a challenge para sa aming lahat para mas lalo naming pag-igihan at pagbutihan yung trabaho namin.”

Piolo Pascual will soon start shooting his upcoming action film under Star Cinema titled "On The Job" where he will play as an NBI agent whose task is to hunt and imprisoned a hired killed (to be played by Gerald Anderson). 
"I'm happy because sobrang three years in the making. For the last three years I'd been trying to lobby for it and really fight for the project. 
Ang daming pinuntahang artista, ang daming pinuntahang producer. And finally pumayag si Tita Malou [Santos, Star Cinema Managing Director] to co-produce it with Direk Erik [Matti]. Now it all fell into place with Gerald on board," Piolo said.
Another exciting happening in the movie is the inclusion of Shaina Magdayo - the girl being linked to him now. Allegedly, Shaina will play as his wife.
"Actually, sana tanggapin niya. Mag-asawa kami dito. Medyo matured yung role and hindi na rin naman bata si Shai." Piolo confirmed.
Asked if the rumored romance between them is true, Piolo has only this to say, "Nag-uusap naman kami... actually nung isang araw tinext ko siya, tinanong ko about us. “Sabi ko, ‘Okay naman tayo, di ba?’"   "We’re okay. Ang hirap lang naman sa showbiz eh may judgment agad. Tingnan na lang natin. Masamang pini-preempt ang mga bagay-bagay." the actor further said.

“I was really clueless, that’s why when Zoren proposed to me under a cherry blossoms tree that he had made as part of the surprise, I couldn’t hold back my tears,” Carmina said during a get together at Patio Carlito recently to apologize to their media friends for not inviting them.

Zoren was really apologetic but was excited to tell everyone how he pulled the thing off, thanks to Dolor Guevarra, Carmina’s long-tine manager, and Shirley Kuan both of whom helped him in the wedding preparations.

Zoren said that even their twins had to be sworn in secrecy to surprise Carmina. The gown by Paul Cabral, said Zoren, had to be in stages so that she wouldn’t suspect.

It was a civil wedding officiated by Court of Appeals Justice Amy Javier.

Angelica Panganiban Talks About Banana Split Family

As part of Banana Split’s first batch of talents when the show started in 2008, Angelica Panganiban said she feels lucky to still be part of the long-running gag show’s fourth year anniversary.

“Before kami nila mamang, si Pokwang po, siRR (Enriquez), si Cristine (Reyes), si Roxanne (Guinoo), si Gab Valenciano, at si Nina Jose.Yung Banana Split kasi, hindi siya isang grupo na kayong lahat kailangan magka-sundo sundo kayo. Kasi yun ang pinakamagandang recipeng comedy show. Hindi siya pinilit, hindi siya pinush. Parang susubukan pa natin hanggang sa magkasundo-sundo sila tapos eto na, ayan na. Nakikita namin na nakikita din ng creative team, ng management na nag-wo-work yung samahan namin kaya nandito pa rin kami. SiPokwang pinasok sa Happy Yipee Yehey. SiZanjoe (Marudo) for a time nawala rin siya tapos bumalik na lang, si Melai (Cantiveros) din. Somay mga ganun pero ibinabalik naman kung gusto pa rin nila. Desisyon naman nila yun. Minsan desisyon naman ng management yun,” she shared.

The 26-year-old actress, who is also part of Star Cinema’s newest film 24/7 In Love, admitted she has become closely bonded with the cast and crew of the weekly show. “Siyempre masaya kami kasi nabigyan kami ng opportunity na mas ma-explore namin yung mga possibilities na puwede pa namin gawin sa career namin and sobra kaming thankful dahil sa team nila direk Bobot (Mortiz)at saka sa comedy crew ng ABS-CBN dahil isa kami sa mapapalad na nakapasok sa Banana Split. Siguro kaya rin naging maganda yung rapport naming lahat dahil nga kumportable kami sa isa’t isa and parang magkakapatid ang turingan namin kaya naman mas naging effectivetalaga yung comedy at mas nakakaaliw na panuorin kami. Dahil nag-re-reflect rin yun sa mga nanunuod sa amin kasi ganun din sila sa mga kaibigan nila, asaran, nagkukulitan. Kaya walang napipikon sa amin kahit ihiwalay pa yung puti sa de-kolor (laughs),” she said.

Angel said that the family atmosphere on the set is the secret to the onscreen chemistry between the cast members. “Pukpukan talaga dito, masipag kami. Sobra akong totoong tao siguro andmakakasundo namin yung hindi namin ka-ugali. Kumbaga ino-augment namin yung iba-ibangstyles, may mabait, may masungit, may kuripot. Ganun kami kakulit pag nagsa-samasama kamiand hindi namin tinatago, hindi namin sinisekreto. Hindi naman namin pinu-push ang isa’t isa na gawin. Para silang magkakapatid, kumportable kami, walang ere, walang ka-plastikan. Andsobra naming mahal na mahal ang isa’t isa,” she said.

Even though she already knew John Prats from Star Magic, Angel said being part of Banana Split was what actually made them close friends. “Nung pumasok yung batch nila, si John talaga yung mas nakasundo ko kasi siguro si Camille (Prats) kaibigan ko na dati pa, nakikita kita ko siya. Sokumportable na ako sa kanya nung nandun na siya sa show. Tapos weekly kaming nagkikita, nagkakasama, ganyan. Mas naging close kaming dalawa at saka ni Camille (laughs). Siyempre siya kaibigan niya yung iba, parang naging bridge na rin siya para maging close kaming lahat,” she said.

Out of all the sketches in the show, Angelica said that her spoof of Kris Aquino with Jayson Gainza’s Boy Abunda has definitely become one of the most memorable ones in the show. “Well lahat naman nagulat. Kahit kami ni Jason nagulat kami. Binigay sa amin yung script and nung idini-delivernaman namin siya, nagulat kami na na-pull off namin ng ganun yung segment na yun andtumatak talaga siya sa mga tao kung paano namin ginaya si Tito Boy at si Ate Kris. Pero siyempre nakakatuwa kasi yun growth ng Banana Split hindi naman tumigil after nun. Nakakagawa kami ng panibagong segments na puwede namin i-poste din sa show katulad ng ‘Hot Issue’ na inaabangan ng mga tao na hindi puwedeng mawala. And mga dance number na ginagawa namin sa bagong Banana Split Extra Scoop dahil dahil simula nung nag-la-live kami dun talaga nahasa yung mga pagiging komedyante namin dahil yung feedback kasi ng mga tao nasa harapan niyo na kaya pag nakakatawa, naririnig mo silang tumatawa. Pag hindi naman, walang reaction so kailangan mabilis yung isip mo para mabawi mo,” she said.

Kris Aquino Confident for the Success of Sisterakas

Actress-host Kris Aquino is confident that her upcoming movie "Sisterakas" with Vice Ganda and Ai Ai delas Alas will be a box-office hit at this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.

"Honestly, sa track record ng dalawang kasama ko, sobrang lakas ng kumpiyansa ko na kung mamimili ka kung ano ang una mong pipiliin -- may Ai Ai delas Alas na may Vice Ganda pa, may Kathryn and Daniel pa -- of course ito na ang uunahin nilang lahat. It has everything that anybody would want to see in a movie this Christmas," Aquino said.

For her part, delas Alas believes that their film will top the box office. "Kung hindi number one eh 'di top 1," delas Alas said.

"I-claim na natin 'yan," Vice Ganda added.

Aquino said they are really doing their best to ensure moviegoers will enjoy "Sisterakas."

Gerald Anderson Open for Falling in Love Again

Actor Gerald Anderson admitted he is not closing his doors to anyone who has been part of his past, saying he never knows what the future holds.

Speaking before a pool of reporters, Anderson said he may not be communicating as much with Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo anymore but he still considers the singer as someone special.

“Sabi ko nga sa iyo, paano magiging closed 'yan eh hindi naman natin kayang basahin ang future. Hindi na gaano, hindi na [kami] masyado [nakakapag-usap]. Oo naman, oo naman [espesyal pa rin siya],” he said.

The same holds true for his former girlfriend Kim Chiu, who again is his leading lady in the Star Magic movie “24/7 in Love.”

“Sino ba ang nagko-close talaga ng door? Mahirap 'yan, paano 'yan? Siyempre hindi naman natin puwedeng basahin 'yung future kung anong mangyayari,” he said.

According to Anderson, he is not stopping himself for falling in love again but as of the moment, he is not really looking for love.

“Lagi naman akong open sa lahat basta tamang timing at kung masaya ako at masaya siya kung sino man 'yun. Pero alam mo 'yun, hindi ko naman hinahanap o alam mo 'yun, hindi ko naman kailangan hanapin 'yun,” he said.

Anderson said he just prays that the right girl would come to his life at the right time.

But if given the choice, Anderson said he would like his next girlfriend to be someone not from show business.

Restored "Oro, Plata, Mata" Opens 2012 Cinema One Originals Festival

The restored version of the multi-awarded Filipino classic “Oro, Plata, Mata” by Peque Gallaga will open this year’s Cinema One Originals Film Festival on November 28 at the Robinson’s Galleria Movie World.

The screenplay of the 1982 film was written by Jose Javier Reyes with cinematography by acclaimed cinematographer Rody Lacap. The film was set in the Philippine province of Negros during World War II and tells the story of how two haciendero families cope with the changes brought by the war.

The film cast includes Cherie Gil, Sandy Andolong, Ronnie Lazaro, Joel Torre, Liza Lorena, Manny Ojeda, Mitch Valdes, Lorli Villanueva, Abbo dela Cruz, Kuh Ledesma, Manny Castaneda, and Mary Walter. It won the 1982 Gawad Urian awards for Best picture, direction, cinematography, production design, musical score, and sound. In the same year, it won the Luna Awards of the Film Academy of the Philippines for Production Design and for Best Supporting Actress (Liza Lorena).

“The script, by Jose Javier Reyes, is so thematically dense that a single interpretation is probably insufficient to discuss what the movie is really about. One could say, at the very least, that the film is about irrevocable change, how one can never really go back to happier times, once you’ve been touched by war. It’s about inevitable decay: gold, silver, death. It’s about the country, and how we’ve come to this point,” wrote Philbert Ortiz Dy in a review. “Oro, Plata, Mata has much to offer you. It’s the kind of film that gives you more and more to chew on the more you watch it. It’s an almost frighteningly rich film experience, one that shouldn’t be missed by any Filipino film devotee,” he added.
This marks the first showing of the restored version of the film. The restoration was made possible through a partnership between ABS-CBN Film Archives headed by Leo Katigbak and Central Digital Lab, Inc. It is the second film restored after Ishmael Bernal’s “Himala” in time for its 30th anniversary.

“Oro, Plata, Mata” is considered as Gallaga’s most significant contribution to Philippine cinema. Catch this timeless classic at the opening of the 8th Cinema One Originals this November 28 (Wednesday) at the Robinson’s Galleria Movie World. The festival’s opening event will start at 6:00 p.m.

The 2012 Cinema One Originals Festival will run from November 28 to December 9 at Robinson’s Galleria Movie World and from November 29 to December 4 at the Edsa Shangri-La Cineplex. The festival’s much awaited awards night will be held on December 3 at the Studio 1, ABS-CBN Main Building.

"It's definitely an event in Philippine cinema to have all these actors together," ani Mae. "Para siyang isang malaking reunion! Talagang sulit na sulit ang bayad ng tao kasi ang daming stars plus maraming kuwento ng pag-ibig ang nandito."

 

Excited naman si Direk Dado sa naiibang konseptong hatid ng kanilang pelikula. "Naiiba siya in a way na its episodic but each episode is tackling love, pero iba-iba nga lang aspeto ng pagmamahal," pahayag ng direktor ng episode nina Piolo, Zaijan, at Xyriel. "Sa episode namin 'yung love na wagas ang focus. It may be very young, it may be the people na hindi pa mature mag-isip, pero pagdating sa pag-ibig ay kaya nilang gumawa ng desisyon."

"Natuwa ako kasi another opportunity ito na gumawa ng bagong bagay na hindi ko pa nagagawa sa television," kwento ni Direk Frasco. "Sa buong movie, may mga moments na magre-reflect ka rin kasi feeling ko bawat isang kuwento dun sa may mga taong makaka-relate. For me it's a story about life. Kasi at the end of the day, kung magugunaw man ang mundo, hahanapin mo 'yung taong mahal mo."
