Marjorie Kwan Killed, Dabawenyos Call for Justice
Dabawenyos condemned the killing of a registered nurse and urged Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to immediately act on the murder using his “iron fist”.
Chinese-Filipino registered nurse Marjorie Kwan was on her way home to RGA Village, Paciano Bangoy, this city, when shot dead by riding in tandem gunmen around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Witnesses said Kwan refused to surrender her bag to the gunmen, prompting one of the suspects to shoot her. The victim succumbed to four gunshot wounds in her hand, chest, back and head.
Family and friends of the 23-year-old victim, through social networking site Facebook, condemned the killing and called for justice for Kwan.
A Justice for Marjorie Kwan page was created on Facebook and it already has 3,948 likes as of this posting.
In their Facebook accounts, several Dabawenyos also called on Duterte to immediately address the problem with criminals in the city.
The elder Duterte is known as Davao's “The Punisher” for his strong stance against criminals.
Police said on Sunday they already have the identity of the suspects, but refused to reveal them pending further investigation.
Before the shooting of Kwan, the residences of Davao-based journalists Radyo ng Bayan manager Peng Aliño, TV 5 Davao editor Jefry Tupas and Philippine Daily Inquirer Mindanao bureau chief Nico Alconaba were ransacked by still unidentified robbers.
