‘Luv U’ Pilot Episode Trends on Twitter, Wins in TV Ratings Game
More teens are now hooked to the newest romantic yet hilarious comedy series of ABS-CBN, “Luv U.” This was evident in the TV ratings the program got on its pilot episode.
According to data from Kantar Media last February 9, “Luv U” obtained 11.9% TV rating, which is higher than the 9.1% of a teen-oriented show in the competing station.
Besides the television viewers, netizens are also captivated by this new Kapamilya Comedy offering. On his Twitter account, the program’s lead teen actor Marco Gumabao reposted a fan message that praises his boy-next-door image a lot. “JB, I can’t get you out of my mind,” goes the fan’s t weet.
Marco’s love teammate Miles, on the other hand, also received support from her Twitter fans. “Your love team is so cute. Kilig much,” goes the tweet.
Their first ever campus tour in Ramon Magsaysay High School in Cubao, Quezon City was also well received by the students.
This Sunday, JB (Marco), Camille (Miles), Boom (CJ Navato), April (Angeline Gonzales), Rocky (Igiboy Flores) and Whitney (Kiray Celis) will continue their quest to spread laughter and teen romance.
To see their crushes Camille and April, JB and Boom will convince their buddy Rocky to visit and court Whitney who lives with the two girls. Rocky, however, doesn’t see Whitney as an attractive girl. That’s why he’ll imagine that Whitney is the sizzling hot Ms. Casimsiman (Bangs Garcia). Will JB and Boom score some points with their crushes?
Meanwhile, ng Lamberto Uy Villarama University (Luv U) Principal Spencer (Smokey Manoloto) will host a quiz bee, but something unexpected will affect the school head’s speech. This scene will definitely complete everyone’s weekly dose of laughter.

Anthony Taberna delivers another exclusive interview with the Grand Rhoe One or the head of the controversial Lambda Rho Beta Fraternity involved in the death of San Beda Law student Marvin Reglos this Monday (February 27) in “XXX.”
Because of the hazing incident, the public’s eyes are once again set on the implementation of RA 8049 or the Anti Hazing Law. Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards Goes Global
Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards Goes Global
Worldwide search for Filipino organizations doing extraordinary service kicks off this month.
“Where there are Filipinos, there are heroes, and it’s time to honor them.”
With this campaign line, firm belief and an international network of regional teams in place to make it happen, the Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards is going global this year, the first time since its inception in 1994.
“It is a huge and momentous initiative to reach out to Filipinos all over the world and recognize their collective efforts in serving their less fortunate Filipino brothers and sisters wherever they may be. We are truly excited by this development,” said Fr. Nilo Tanalega, SJ who heads Ugnayan at Tulong para sa Maralitang Pamilya (UGAT) Foundation (translated literally as Relations and Assistance for Poor Families). UGAT, a non-profit organization based in the Philippines, oversees the screening of nominations and selection of winners.
“My father would be smiling right now,” said Raffy Lopez, COO of ABS-CBN Global which oversees the promotion and production of the distinguished award ceremonies. “He started Bayaning Pilipino (Filipino Heroes) with Father Nilo. It would warm his heart to know that ABS-CBN in Manila, TFC globally and UGAT, have expanded their long-running partnership to search around the world for ordinary folks doing extraordinary work in the service of the Filipino people. This is true to his vision and mission.”
The “father” is Don Eugenio “Geny” Lopez Jr., founder of ABS-CBN Corporation, the largest entertainment and broadcasting company in the Philippines. He is known in the industry as the “Father of Philippine Broadcasting”. The award, which was named after him, began after he learned of a Filipina maid in Hong Kong who got run over by a car in pursuit of saving a child. The award gives recognition to Filipinos (now as organizations) who in the face of challenges and difficulties manage to rise and emerge as role models of service in their communities.
“We have honored so many Filipinos, but taking the search to a worldwide level posed major logistical requirements. We are so enthused by the energy and commitment of TFC teams in all regions in taking part in the project. It shows their involvement and love for the Filipino communities that they serve,” said Chit Guerrero, vice president for ABS-CBN Corporation’s Special Projects which works directly with UGAT in Manila for this project.
Gawad Geny Lopez Jr Global Bayaning Pilipino has kicked off this month. The search is open to all Filipino organizations in the U.S., Canada, Asia-Pacific (covering Singapore and Hong Kong), Europe (covering Italy and U.K.), Middle East, Australia and Japan. The criteria are as follows: (1) Measurable impact: scope and number of beneficiaries with known effective results; (2) Highlight the value of unity/PAGKAKAISA (effective elimination of selosan (jealousy), inggitan (envy), siraan (negative criticism), etc. or has effectively dealt with these either through interventions or through innovative methods); (3) Focused on service and/or an issue (poverty, health, education, etc) as felt either in your respective country or in the Philippines; (4) Transcend regionalism/parochialism; (5) Participatory/people-oriented leadership (as shown in the manner of how they choose their leaders and their acceptance thereof); (6) Promote Filipino values and culture and Filipino heritage.
ABS-CBN Global and UGAT Foundation encourage Filipinos, even in the Philippines to send in their nominations for outstanding organizations outside the Philippines who meet the criteria.
Deadline of submission of nominations is on March 15, 2012. Regional winners will be announced late May 2012 after a period of tight screenings and validation. The winners will be flown to Manila, Philippines for the national awarding ceremony to be held in June 2012.
For nomination forms and more information, visit www.globalbayaningpilipino.com.

EDSA Revolution History Revisits 26 Years After
EDSA Revolution and its historical significance in the country this Sunday on “Matanglawin.”
Kuya Kim and fellow “It’s Showtime” host Teddy Corpuz literally and figuratively walk down memory lane, tie a yellow ribbon, and get to know the history of the road named after a certain Don Panyong as they commemorate the anniversary of the EDSA revolution this Sunday (February 26) in “Matanglawin.”
Get to know who Epifanio delos Santos is and why the historic road was named after him. Before EDSA came to be, did you know that this stretch of 24 kilometers was known as the North and South Circumferential Road and Highway 54?
It was even pegged to be named after American General Douglas MacArthur, national hero Jose Rizal, former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay and in 2009, former President Cory Aquino for her role in the momentous bloodless revolution of 1986.
Kuya Kim and Teddy also visit famous landmarks about the 1986 Revolution to know what happened during the Martial Law and why yellow was the most popular color in town.
Recently, “Matanglawin” was recognized as the Best Educational Program in the 8th USTv Students’ Choice Awards given by the University of Santo Tomas.
Don’t miss “Matanglawin” this Sunday (February 26), 9:30 a.m. on ABS-CBN.

Zsa Zsa a proud stage mother
From a meeting in ABS-CBN, Zsa Zsa went straight to watch Zia perform in a Bloggers Night at Club Phi in Ortigas on Tuesday, February 21.
Zia launched her self-title album under PolyEast Records in October 2011 and her singles “Simple Girl,” “Ako Na Lang” and “Dear Lonely” are doing well on the charts and air waves.
“During Karylle’s time, I never had the chance to be a stage mother. So ngayon talaga, dream come true ito. To the hilt,” Zsa Zsa said in jest.
While Zia was performing on stage, Zsa Zsa was sitting at the side, taking photos and videos of her daughter. Zsa Zsa, who got teary-eyed upon watching Zia, was called on stage at the end of the performances.
“Pasensya na marami akong naluha kanina. I’m so proud of you Zia,” Zsa Zsa said.
Zia may still be considered as a newbie singer, but she has already made a big impression, even among the likes of Lea Salonga. Zia is nominated in three categories at the MYX Music Awards 2012.
“Thank you for making my dream come true to be a stage mother. I’m so proud of you, Zia. You’re truly a wonderful performer. It’s true that a lot of my co-artists come to me and say ‘I am a fan of Zia,’” Zsa Zsa added.
After you, Mommy Divine!
She said that she now knows the feeling of mothers who support their children’s career, such as Divine Geronimo (Sarah Geronimo’s mom) and Raquel Pempengco (Charice’s mother).
“Alam ko na yung feeling nila mommy Divine, na-portray ko rin yung mommy ni Charice (in “Maalaala Mo Kaya”). Sabi ko, ‘Ganoon pala yung feeling kapag kumakanta, then nagvi-video ka,” Zsa Zsa said.
She added that she met with ABS-CBN bosses because “they want to make her (Zia) a star in the movies and TV.”
Early signs
The proud mother said she already saw Zia’s potential as a singer since she was a baby.
“I’ve been a believer of Zia’s music since she was young because my father was the one who told me na as a baby she would sing. He could hear her humming raw. Then, kumakanta nga. Meron palang ganun, unbelievable. So I knew that this day will come,” Zsa Zsa revealed.

Alden and his road to America
If ever, it would be his first time to travel abroad. The 20-year-old Alden said it is also his first time to have a passport, thanks to his role in “The Road,” Yam Laranas’ horror film which will premiere at Nokia Theater L.A. Live on May 9.
Through Freestyle Releasing, GMA Films’ “The Road” will be commercially released in North America and Canada markets beginning May 11. GMA Films President Annette Gozon-Abrogar said “The Road” opening in 50 commercial theaters across North America and Canada is a first for a locally-produced Filipino film.
Excited
“This will be my first trip palabas ng bansa kaya excited ako. Ang dami kong first time dito sa GMA7. First time kong napasama sa isang film na naging international. First time rin na mapasama sa film na mapapasali sa maraming international film festival. Tapos mainstream cinemas pa maipapalabas ang ‘The Road.’ So very blessed po ako sa start ng 2012,” expressed Alden.
“The Road” is also competing at the 30th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, the biggest genre festival in Europe, which is set from April 5 to 17. It is also competing at the 8th Fantaspoa - International Fantastic Film Festival of Porto Alegre, Brazil. It is the biggest genre festival in Latin America.
More mature role
Another excitement in Alden's career is “My Beloved,” where he plays a more mature role compared to that in “Alakdana.” Alden sad “My Beloved” lets him experiment more on the way he attacks his character. It also challenges him as an actor since he’s working with Dingdong Dantes, whom Alden looks up to.
“Nagpapasalamat naman ako at may pumupuri sa acting ko kahit papaano,” he quipped.
Alden is also working on his looks. He is stripping out his flabs for a leaner physique. He said that even if he still doesn't know his next movie, he believes it's better to prepare himself by working on a better-looking body, among others.
“Ayaw ko ng bumalik sa pagka-chubby ko. Tuloy-tuloy na ang fitness regimen ko,” he said.
As an actor, Alden is not picky with roles as long as the story is worth it. He doesn't have qualms about leaving his "tween-image" if needed.
What's important for him is that he gets to work and hone his craft.
What if his application for a US visa gets denied?
“Okay lang po. I'm excited and happy for ‘The Road,’” he replied.

Julie Anne San Jose: This is not the right time for love
In an interview with the 17-year-old singer during her contract signing with GMA Records for her upcoming debut album last Monday, February 20, Julie Anne said she and Elmo are “still getting to know each other.”
“Hindi naman sa hindi kami nag-uusap, hindi naman din po sa hindi kami close. Pero pag nagkikita po kami, as in work lang po talaga,” she told the press.
It’s not that they’re not close outside their joint musical endeavors, Julie Ann explained. They just never had the chance to explore their friendship further.
“Hindi po kasi kami, like, lumalabas na, ‘hey, let’s hang out.’ Parang wala pong chance. Busy din po ako, busy din po siya,” she shared.
“Wala po talagang chance na lumabas kami. Nag-uusap naman po kami. Pero that’s about it.”
Julie Anne also said she’s not yet ready to fall in love.
“This is not the right time to fall in love,” she said. “Wala pa po sa isip ko yung mga bagay na yan. Bata pa po kasi ako, e. Saka focus po muna sa work sa career.”
Future with Elmo
Does she think her partnership with Elmo has a future, considering the 17-year-old son of the late Francis Magalona has been continuously linked to other girls?
“Ako po kasi, kung ano po yung gusto ni Elmo, as a friend, suportahan ta ka,” she quipped.
The singer-actress believes she has nothing to do with Elmo’s personal life.
“It’s his private life. Nasa kanya naman po yun kung sasabihin niya sa akin (about his love life),” she said. “Kung magkwe-kwento naman po siya, magku-kuwentuhan kami.”
Although she appreciates the support the JuliElmo tandem gets from fans, Julie Anne said she wants to be recognized as a solo artist as well.
“Although maganda rin yung may kapareha, kasi bonus na rin po yun e, may solo careers din po kasi kaming dalawa,” she said.
But fans don’t need to say goodbye to JuliElmo just yet. Julie Anne and Elmo are slated to start shooting their launching movie “Just One Summer” this March.
Julie Anne revealed they’re still planning whether Elmo would be a part of her debut album.
The young singer added they’ve already chosen songs for her album. Two of the songs will be her original compositions while three will be covers; the rest will be original songs.
With a movie and an album on the way, Julie Anne is happy at how GMA-7 is building up her career.
“I feel so honored and grateful to be part of GMA Network kasi this is a big opportunity,”she shared.
Julie Anne also said that she remains simple despite the success.
“I’m just living out my dreams. And, yun, ginagawa ko po yung best ko para sa mga tao. Ang patuloy pa rin akong nakakapag-inspire ng iba.”
