Lifelogging Camera: Here Comes a No Off-Button Camera for Your Social Networking Needs

Lifelogging Camera: Here Comes a No Off-Button Camera for Your Social Networking Needs

Would you like to own a lens with no off-button that captures every moment of your life? Here comes a "lifelogging" camera created by Martin Kaellstroem.
When Kaellstroem was a young adult, he lost both his parents to cancer. It became a spur for him to seize the day, as a person and an entrepreneur so he created what he called lifelogging camera.
The 38-year-old co-founder of Swedish company Memoto is a man in a hurry as he promotes his "lifelogging" camera, which is worn with a clip on the shirt or on a string around the neck, and takes a picture once every 30 seconds.

"When you lose your parents, you realise that you don't live forever. It has definitely affected me in my entrepreneurship. I can't wait until later to fulfil my dreams, I have to live my dream now," he said.

Some may see parallels with George Orwell's 1984, the Truman Show or other dystopias. But the team behind the Memoto camera insists that it doesn't breach any privacy. Rather, they see it as a way to collect memories.

"Traditionally, people only brought their camera to special events when everyone was dressed up, smiling into the camera," Kaellstroem said.

"But you don't know in advance which moments will be important in the future. Perhaps you meet your future wife or witness an accident or a crime, pic tures you might want to return to."

Lifelogging, a technique for digitally gathering daily moments, is a growing phenomenon, gaining popularity with mobile applications such as Saga, which creates info graphics summarising your life through your smartphone data, and health trackers like Runkeeper and Moves.

Following the success of calling software Skype, music streaming service Spotify and video game developer Dice - all technologies with a heavy Swedish component - the next big thing could be a device logging your life in pictures.

The Memoto camera, which resembles an iPod mini, collects a stream of pictures, automatically sorted according to the GPS-location, time and light. The 'memory timeline' can be shared on social media such as Facebook or Twitter.

It is a tool for a new tech-savvy world without the patience to keep a diary, according to co-founder Oskar Kalmaru.

"I've failed several times when trying to write a blog or travelogue. Older relatives managed to keep a diary over 20 years, but it is hard with the routine," he said.

British lifelogging camera Autographer emerged in the medical field as a facilitator for Alzheimer patients and GoPro and Looxcie are targeting practitioners of extreme sports.

Memoto will cater to both exhibitionists or nostalgic souls, according to Kaellstroem.

"There are two main types of users," he said.

"The first category, to which I belong, is the collector who saves and organises the memories, but only shares them with a small circle of close friends and family. The other group is more social, aiming to share a creative and active life through various social media platforms."

But classmates, employees and neighbours may not want to be caught on film, much less people in witness protection programmes or other sensitive areas of life.

--- 'Big Brother Light ' ---

Lifelogging does raise some privacy questions, says Steven Savage, a researcher at the Swedish Defence Research Agency, noting that the private sphere is relative: what is not offensive to one person might be to another.

"It depends where the photos end up," Savage said.

"Today, it is difficult to search pictures, but new technology is being developed all the time. Once those pictures become searchable, more questions will arise. You'll lose control over the situation."

Jan Svaerdhagen, who is currently writing a book about lifelogging, agrees.

"The first question one should raise is, 'what function is filled by taking a photo every 30 seconds?' Who buys the product and for what purpose? Are we entering the next stage of social media where we not only log, but also share our lives 24/7 in a kind of Big Brother Light version?" said Svaerdhagen.

"I jog a lot, and sure it would be fun to have some photos from a run, but the question is , are we entering narcissism in its most extreme form?" he said.

Kaellstroem said he and his team thought a great deal about privacy while designing the camera, bearing in mind that many might be uncomfortable with being confronted with a spying eye.

"It has to be clear that it is a camera, but yet with a friendly design that makes people comfortable and not distracted," he said.

Soon, 4,000 of these cameras will reach their users. In the future they might develop accessories such as a waterproof case, a wide-angle lens and a wi-fi dock. In the meantime, the blueprint is available online for creative users to personalise their camera.

"The lifelogging cameras are just the tip of the iceberg in the 'quantified self' movement," said Lisa Ehlin, an expert in digital culture at Stockholm University.

"I'm sure we will walk around with some cool new gadgets in the future, like those mouth chips or body tattoos tracking your he alth and what you eat. But mainly, it's all about social life and friends." - bangkokpost.com

Lovi Poe On Jake Cuenca And Rocco Nacino Fighting Over Her Affection

LOVI POE is so busy this month of September. Her new GMA-7 primetime soap, “Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas”, starts airing on Monday, September 9. She herself sang the theme song, “Huwag Kang Mangako”, written by Cecille Azarcon and originally sung by Kuh Ledesma, whose “One More Try” helped in making “My Husband’s Lover” the big hit that it is.

She also has two new movies to be shown this month. “Lihis” with Jake Cuenca and Joem Bascon will be shown in Sineng Pambansa at SM Cinemas from September 11 to 18. This will be followed on September 25 by the theatrical release of the Cinemalaya best picture winner in the Director’s Showcase category, “Sana Dati”.

And of course, her Sunday night drama show on GMA News TV, “Titser”, is still going on and it’s getting very positive feedback for it’s revelations about the sad plight of teachers and the educational system in our country.

In “Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas”, she plays the oppressed bastard daughter of Gary Estrada with their housemaid, Ina Feleo. In real life, it’s common knowledge she’s the love child of FPJ. As she was growing up, did anyone every chide her because of this?

“No, never, and I’m happy na wala namang gumawa ng ganon sa’kin,” she says. “Ngayon naman, I can feel I’m accepted as FPJ’s daughter. And because of that, mas naka-relate ako sa role ko in ‘Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas’. The story is really good. My mom is trying to raise me by herself, pero may congenital heart disease kasi ako, kaya kahit masakit sa loob niya, iniwan niya ako sa father ko and to my lola, Liza Lorena, para mapagaling ako. But my lola, hindi niya ko matanggap talaga.”

How did she feel when Helen Gamboa backed up from the role? “I felt so sad kasi favorite leading lady raw siya ng dad ko. Well, I’m hoping that someday, magkatrabaho pa rin kami. But as it is, okay naman si Tita Liza, with whom I’ve worked before sa ‘Legacy’.”

How is it being reunited with Rocco Nacino, who’s said to be the reason why she and Jake Cuenca broke up? “That’s not true. How can we break up, never talaga naging officially kami. We were just going out as friends. As for Rocco, he’s always nice to work with naman so masaya kami sa set. But hindi rin kami and I’d want to maintain it that way kasi work lang talaga ang focus ko ngayon.”

So it’s not true that Jake and Rocco fought over her? “You ask them, kasi ako, walang alam na may nangyaring ganoon.”

Rocco plays more of a villain role in the show. He courts Lovi only because she comes from the rich Villacorta family, but his real girlfriend is Charee Pineda. Lovi will later find solace in Cesar Montano. Is she ready to do romantic scenes with Cesar? “Yeah, why not? I’ve never worked with him before but alam ko, maraming humahanga sa husay niya so it’s an honor for me to work with him. Intimidated nga ako noong una, but he turned out to be very nice.”

Doesn’t she feel neglected that the publicity for “Lihis” focuses on the gay sex scenes of Jake and Joem Bascon when she herself has a piping hot bed scene with Joem? “Okay lang yun kasi naiiba talaga yung ginawa nila. I just wish people wouldn’t think na gay movie lang ito. It has a very touching story about a daughter’s search for the truth about her parents, si Isabelle Daza yun, and also shows the atrocities of the military during the martial law years.”

Derek Ramsay's Ex-Girlfriend Obviously Devastated Over Their Breakup

SOME WRITERS tried to interview Alexa Amos, the Frisbee player ex-girlfriend of Derek Ramsay who he broke up with in favour of Cristine Reyes. We saw Alexa then with Derek’s family when his show “Kidlat” was launched by TV5 in Broadway Centrum and when the show later offered a thanksgiving mass and dinner. That was about half a year ago. And now, they’re no longer together. Instead of allowing herself to be interviewed, Alexa just posted her sentiments in social media. Here is what she says:

“I’m not interested in taking public potshots, it’s not my concern anymore. What happened to him after the separation -- it’s his life now. I’ve made a conscious effort not to add to the toxicity of this situation. I don’t want to be a part of it. I don’t have a halo that I’m polishing here, everyone has their personal thoughts. But I would much rather everyone move on.

“I am not defined by this relationship. It’s maddening to me. If people are frustrated that I don’t want to do that, I’m sorry… There’s a lot I don’t understand, a lot I don’t know, and probably never will know, really. So I choose to take away with me as much integrity and dignity and respect for what that relationship was as I can…”

Cesar Montano Still Wants To Save Marriage To Sunshine Cruz For The Sake Of Their Daughters

CESAR MONTANO is obviously not avoiding the press. Contrary to what some folks speculated that he won’t show up at the presscon of “Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas” so he wouldn’t have to talk about his tumultuous marital life, he gamely answered all the questions thrown his way. Before the presscon started, GMA staffers even told the press to refrain from asking any personal questions to Cesar, but obviously, Cesar himself didn’t heed their warning. Judging from his answers, it’s obvious he still wants to save his marriage to Sunshine Cruz to make their family whole again.

“That’s really my intention, my prayer, because of my love for our children,” he says. “Gusto kong matapos na ang anumang conflict dahil yung mga bata, kawawa. Wala silang kinalaman sa anumang away. I hate it because I know our children do not deserve this. Kasi, kung intensyon kong saktan si Shine, masasaktan ko, kaya lang maapektuhan din ‘yung mga bata. This is not an issue between me and my wife. Kahit na saang anggulo mo idaan, ang masasaktan ultimately, yung mga bata. So, pinakamabuti, the best is tumahimik and to pray. Ayoko ngang isama sila sa korte but the judge required it. I don’t want them sana dragged into this. I’m devastated. Thoroughly devastated. The court decided on how to share the children. Four days sa kanya, then three days sa akin. Tapos, four sa akin, three naman sa kanya, to make it equal. Mahirap, but I look at it positively. I just thank God for what I have right now, kahit problema man ‘yan o magandang blessing man ‘yan. Because, mas sa tingin ko, God is preparing me for a bigger task, a bigger issue in life. Hindi naman porke may problema ka, you’re not blessed. You’re just being tested for a bigger blessing in the future. Nasa pagtingin lang ng tao ‘yon. Ever since, I’ve always had a positive outlook on everything. Very optimistic akong tao at kahit anong negative na lumalabas, I will always make it into something positive.”

He denies having a new love in his life. “Sa mata ng batas, sa mata ng Diyos, hindi pa rin kami hiwalay. If you’re going to read the Bible, anti-divorce ang Panginoon, e. And I don’t think it’d be proper for me to be having another lovelife. Sa ngayon, sa daughters ko lang muna ako at sa trabaho ko, taping regularly for ‘Akin Pa Rin ang Bukas’ where I play the lawyer son of Gloria Romero. Akong tutulong kay Lovi laban sa mga umapi sa kanya.”

Gerald Anderson Talks About Internet Photo With Him Allegedly Showing His Manhood

GERALD ANDERSON laughs off the foto circulated on the internet with him allegedly holding his manhood. “Natawa lang ako kasi alam ko namang hindi ako yun,” he says. “Nakatalikod yung kuha, e. Paanong magiging ako yun?”

He played a convicted prisoner in “On the Job” on the big screen. He now plays another jailbird in the new soap “Bukas na Lang Kita Mamahalin”. “It helped that when we taped ‘Bukas’, nakapag-research na ako ng husto sa role ng isang bilanggo for ‘OTJ’, so comfortable na ako dun sa role ko at sanay na ako sa set up na kulungan. Here in ‘Bukas’, wala akong kasalanan. I was wrongly accused na ni-rape ko si Diana Zubiri, but noong may mangyari sa kanya, I was so drunk and I passed out kaya wala akong maalala.”

Why did it take more than year before he got a new show after “Budoy”? “Okay naman yun. I won’t have it any other way kasi masyadong tumatak sa tao yung ‘Budoy’ role ko kaya it’s good na may long gap between that and my next show. At okay na okay itong ‘Bukas na Lang’ as my follow up show kasi ang ganda talaga ng material. As an innocent man na nagdusa for a crime he didn’t commit, gustong-gusto ko ang role ko rito.”

Sam Concepcion Admits Jasmine Curtis Smith Is The Most Special Girl For Him Now

SAM CONCEPCION is projecting a more mature image in his new album, “Infinite”, from Universal Records. His pictorial shows him displaying his buff torso and bulging biceps.

“It’s part of my decision para iwanan na yung teeny bopper image ko,” he says. “Some people kasi still look at me as the boy who won in ‘Little Big Star’. I’m turning 21 on October 17, so this time, iniiwan ko na ang pagiging Candy Cutie for teens and I’ll now be part of Cosmo Men. I’ve just done a sexy pictorial for them na lalabas this month and I will also be part of the Cosmos Bash at World Trade Center.”

What will he do when he walks on the ramp to attract the attention of screaming girls? “I don’t know yet. I’ve also done a daring pictorial for Bench so may be I’ll come out in my jeans and shirt then pupunitin ko na lang. But whatever I decide to do on stage, it won’t be half baked or half hearted. It’s part of my growth as a performer and I promise to give my all.”

Sam is thankful to other artists who help him with his album. Why is the title “Infinite”? “It’s the direction where I’d like to take my career, infinite, meaning ‘No Limitations’. I can do a lot of things whether it’s in singing, on TV or movies or the theatre. But right now, I want to focus more on my singing, my music.”

The carrier single “No Limitations” is a collaboration between him and Billy Crawford, Marcus Davis and Kris Lawrence. It has an edgy sexy music video with Solenn Heussaff as his special guest and it’s now number one in Pinoy MYX Countdown. You’ll see Sam perform in a way you’ve never seen him before. Other songs in the album are “Love Love Love” by Christian Bautista, “I’m the One”, “Rescue You”, “She Drives Me Crazy”, “Mahal na Mahal”, “Panalangin” (from the movie “I Do Bidoo”), “There’s No Me without You”, “Kontrabida”.

Another song, “Di Ka Mag-iisa”, also has a music video reuniting him with his “Super Inggo” love interest, Empress Schuck. Won’t his girlfriend, Jasmine Curtis Smith, get jealous? “No, we both understand it’s all part of our job, being paired with others.”

What’s their status now? “Wala naman kaming itinatago. She remains to be the most special girl for me.”

How did he feel when Jasmine won as best supporting actress in Cinemalaya for “Transit”? “That’s a big surprise and I’m very proud of her. Imagine, winning an award for your very first film. That’s really something. And I’m also proud of ‘Transit’ as it’s a really good movie. They’re all good so no wonder it got an award for best ensemble acting.”

What if TV5 would get him to be paired with Jasmine someday in a TV movie or TV show? “I’d like that. Sana nga dumating yung tamang project at tamang timing for us.”

Does Jasmine’s Ate Anne Curtis accept him for her? “Yes, we’re okay. I’m okay with their whole family.

Megan Young's Problem With Miss World Pageant In Indonesia

MEGAN YOUNG is leaving tomorrow for Indonesia as our country’s representative to the Miss World pageant that will be held in that Muslim country for the first time. The trouble is some Muslims are protesting the staging of the pageant in their country as it requires the contestants to parade on stage in skimpy bikinis.

The organizers from Britain headed by Ms. Julia Morley have decided to scrap the swimsuit competition because of this, but the protesting faction will not be appeased.

Indonesian Minister Suryadharma Ali has even issued an official statement about this to express their vehement opposition to Miss World: “The Indonesian Ulema Council has expressed strong opposition to Miss World because it doesn’t fit with Islamic teachings that say Muslim women should cover immodest parts of their bodies.”

At the event they succeed in convincing Indonesian authorities to scrap the pageant in their home turf, the Miss World organizers will find it hard to find a replacement venue right away since the coronation night is already scheduled on September 28.

They might just postpone it for next year since they lack time to prepare for a new venue. Which is kind of bad and anti-climactic for Megan since everyone is saying she has a good chance of bagging the Miss World title for our country, for the very first time. Let’s just wish Megan then the best of luck.
