'The Mommy Returns' – Movie Poster, Trailer and Synopsis Released

Regal Films has released the official poster, trailer and synopsis for the upcoming family-comedy film “The Mommy Returns” starring Ruffa Gutierrez, Gabby Concepcion, Jilian Ward and Pokwang.

“The Mommy Returns” is Regal Films’ initial offering this 2012. It also stars Gloria Diaz, John Lapus, Kiray Celis, Yaya Moi, Kirbie Zamora, Ervic Vijandre and Hiro Magalona. Introducing Gerald Pesigan.
A screenplay by Senedy H. Que and helmed by Joel Lamangan, The Mommy Returns is set to open in theaters nationwide on May 9, 2012.

Synopsis:
"THE MOMMY RETURNS" is a family comedy-horror movie about a mother, Ruby (POKWANG) who dies right on the day of her 25th wedding anniversary with gorgeous husband, William (GABBY CONCEPCION). With her untimely death, she is temporarily trapped in PURGA (short for Purgatory) with its guardian, Dyoga (JOHN LAPUS, ang diyosa ng purga) and the pesky Manny, the chicken pet of San Pedro.

Enter CATHERINE (RUFFA GUTTIEREZ) - a younger, fresher, and much, much prettier woman who comes into the life of William. When she threatens to take Ruby's place as mother to her three beloved children (KIRAY, GERALD PESIGAN and JILLIAN WARD), hell (er, purgatory) breaks loose as Ruby escapes back to earth as a ghost to scare and drive Catherine out of the family she left behind!

What follows is a riot of scary antics and tactics that will prove that "hell hath no fury like a dead woman," especially if she is a mother who can't leave her children behind!”

Solenn ‘comes to life,’ disrobes on magazine cover

(UPDATE) It’s the battle of the men’s magazine covers this April.

Hot on the heels of Esquire Magazine’s topless Bianca Gonzalez cover, Rogue magazine unveiled its new April issue Tuesday with actress Solenn Heusaff on the cover.

While Solenn is a mainstay of everything sexy—photo shoots, product endorsements, TV appearances—the Rogue cover trumps all her work on print by “coming to life.”

Solenn disrobes in slow motion

An app called Zappar—downloadable on iTunes and for Android —allows mobile and tablet users to view the Rogue cover using augmented reality technology.

This means that by training your device on top of the magazine cover, you’ll see Solenn on the cover begin to move, take a bite off the ice-cream bar in her hand and slowly begin to disrobe.

The Rogue cover was created with the sponsorship of Unilever-RFM’s Selecta team in charge of Magnum Ice Cream. Introduced in February, Magnum has sparked freezer runs in convenience stores and online debates about whether it is nothing more than a status symbol.

Solenn was Rogue’s first cover girl

“Solenn has always been our muse ever since she appeared on the cover of our first issue five years ago,” Rogue editor-in-chief Paolo Reyes told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! during a press launch Tuesday for the April issue.

So it was fortuitous when Selecta approached them with their cover proposal. With the help of Unitel Productions, they produced the cover in keeping with what Reyes calls the magazine’s “run-the-red-light philosophy.”

It became another opportunity for the magazine to “take a blind dive into the digital realm and experiment with the physical two-dimensional nature of the Rogue cover,” Reyes said in a statement. It is also the first for any publication in the Philippines, he added.

Sold-out issues

The magazine last made waves when it featured the curvy backside of actress KC Concepcion on the cover of its February 2012 issue.

But it also had many sold out issues, one of which was its October 2011 issue which had three different covers of Anne Curtis photographed in Paris.

The April 2012 issue of the magazine is about the “power of the pen and the printed word,” Reyes wrote in his editorial. It contains stories on celebrated Filipino writers like the late National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin, U.S.-based author Jessica Hagedorn and the confessions of a celebrity ghostwriter.

Ogie to bashers: Be positive

Ogie Alcasid admits he felt hurt when someone bashed his and wife Regine Velasquez’s son, baby Nate, on Twitter. But he doesn’t see the need to give up his Twitter account because of this.

“Twitter is a necessity. It is a great tool for reaching out to fans and non-fans, to co-artists. Sometime kami ni misis, tweet na lang kapag hindi makapag-text,” he explains after the press conference of OPM@Pagcor 2, the nationwide search for promising Filipino singers sponsored by the Philippine Amusement Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM).

The OPM president has found a way to deal with bashers: treat them well.

“Instead of fighting back or saying something harsh, let’s encourage the bashers to be as positive as we are,” Ogie suggests. “One day, magiging fan mo pa yan. Try to win them over at magiging kaibigan mo pa yan. Suddenly, they’ll be watching your concerts or your TV show. Suddenly, they have nothing else to say about you because you’re a positive person.”

Ogie Alcasid

This is what Ogie also told his wife, who understandably feels bad over the tirade on her four-month-old baby. He feels for Regine, saying that any mother will always protect her baby.

Changing attitudes

But he is also convincing her to take this chance to change people’s negative attitude.

“I tell her, 'Hon, try to win them over. Try to change their attitude about people. Kung lahat ng mga Pilipino ganon, imbes na mag-alipusta o manlait, pumuri na lang tayo, hindi ba mas positive yon?'” says Ogie.

Constructive criticism, he adds, is better than just putting people down for the sake of doing it.

“Halimbawa,” he relates, “lumabas ka sa TV. Meron kang hindi nasabi o ginawang hindi maganda. I tweet mo na 'You know, maybe you should change that song, or ayusin mo ng konti.' Ok na yon.”

He has the same sunny attitude when it comes to foreign artists who have been lording it over the music scene lately.

“We have to live with that challenge. Kailangan sumabay ang OPM. Hindi yong paalisin nyo sila,”Ogie goes on.

Part of facing that challenge is developing local singers who will promote OPM in venues big and small.

Ogie is supporting “OPM@PAGCOR2” the way he did last year, when the search was launched, also at PAGCORCasino in Paranaque.

Ultimate OPM performer

“We’re looking for the ultimate OPM performer with the personality and charisma to match,” he adds.

PAGCOR Assistant VP for Entertainment Bong Quintana reveals that the winner of the search will not only win cash prizes (P300,000 for the grand winner; P200,000 for the second placer, P100,000 for the third prize winner and P20,000 each as consolation prize).

“They will have the chance to undergo proper music training to gain valuable singing techniques from the country’s finest OPM icons,” he reveals.

Quintana adds that PAGCOR will allow the contestants to sing covers or any type of song, but they must give importance to OPM.

“They can also perform in places other than Casino Filipino,” he relates.

First grand winner Marie Joyce Tanana from Angeles City shares that her training and exposure has helped her get other gigs.

“Maraming nag-imbita sa akin (na mag-perform),” she says.

The dance workshops and performance training, Tanana adds, helped improve hers and her fellow winners’ talents.

Those who want to audition for “OPM@PAGCOR 2” may check out www.pagcor.ph or www.opm.org.ph. They may call OPM at 576-5069 or 945-7003 or PAGCOR Entertainment Department at 852-7760 or 852-7752.

All is quiet on the John Lloyd-Shaina front

After going through rough times in October 2011, John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao are now in a happier, more peaceful place.

“Masaya naman at peaceful. Wala na (issues), may naririnig ba kayo? Tahimik na tahimik. Malakas ako sa Diyos, idinasal ko sa lahat,” Shaina said at the press conference for her new Kapamilya TV drama “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo” with Jake Cuenca and Bangs Garcia on Thursday, March 29 at the ABS-CBN compound.

John Lloyd and Shaina now respect each other more and realize how much they mean to each other.

“I can say na mas tumaas yung respeto namin sa isa’t isa. Siguro na-realize na namin yung worth ng isa’t isa. Mas alam na namin yung needs ko, yung needs niya. I can say na very, very blessed itong taon namin, so sana hanggang sa matapos ang taon na ito,” Shaina said.

Shaina Magdayao

More respect

She also shared that John Lloyd has gotten closer to her family, and he shows more respect to them, especially to her father.

“Definitely, mas natutuwa ako kasi mas nirerespeto na niya yung pamilya ko. Mas naipakita niya kung paano niya nirerespeto, lalo na yung tatay ko,” she revealed.

Shaina also dispelled rumors that she easily gets jealous of her boyfriend. She said that they understand each other’s work and that John Lloyd doesn’t give her reason to be jealous.

“I don’t think nabibigyan niya ako ng reason para magselos ngayon. Kung ano man yung nangyayari sa amin ngayon sa career, para namang baguhan kami para (hindi) namin malaman na parte iyon ng ginagawa namin,” she said.

The challenges they went through last year have made them change for the better. They find time for each other despite their busy schedules.

“Mas masaya ako sa mga bagay-bagay ngayon. Mas nakabuti, mas naging masaya, mas naging peaceful ngayon,” she said.

Shaina is happy that “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo” will finally air starting April 16 on ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Gold, as well as internationally via the TFC channel.

Since the series is set in the Middle East, Shaina, Jake and Bangs shot some scenes in Dubai, UAE and Qatar.

The series pairs Shaina with Jake for the second time (they first teamed up in “Rubi”).

Strong and independent

As the strong, independent Sarah, Shaina says she can easily relate to her role.

“Pareho kami ni Sarah. Siguro ilang beses na akong nagkakaproblema, nadadapa, pero ilang beses naman akong tumatayo. So, pareho kami ni Sarah na fighter. The more you put me down, I’ll prove you wrong. Parang ganoon ako na lalaban kung lalaban,” she said.

“Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo,” directed by Manny Palo and Lino Cayetano, also stars Gloria Diaz, Sandy Andolong, Maria Isabel Lopez, Ronnie Lazaro and Nikki Valdez.

Mike Tan enjoys kontrabida roles more

Winning Season 2 of the reality search "Starstruck" didn't make Mike Tan's life in showbiz easier. As an actor, he is just beginning to make his acting interesting via his role in GMA7's primetime series "Legacy" - eight years after he won.

Unlike newbie actors blessed with the ability to pick up immediately on acting and be good in it, Mike suffered criticisms and negative reviews. It also raised questions as to why he became the Ultimate Male Survivor of "Starstruck 2."

According to Mike, it isn't in him to give-up easily. He entered "Starstruck" because he wanted to become an actor. If it needed years to prove himself, he doesn't mind waiting.

So what changed?

Mike Tan (photo courtesy of GMA-7)

More focused

"Pinaghahandaan ko yung role ko," explained Mike about his portrayal in "Legacy." "Mas inaaral ko lang siya. Ngayon mas focused na ako sa 'Legacy.' Saka hindi ako papayag na pupunta sa set na hindi aral yung script."

What even made it more taxing for Mike was the fact that he was still in the series "Kung Aagawin Mo Ang Langit" when taping began for "Legacy."

"Mahirap yung pinanggagalingan ko sa pag-arte sa 'Legacy' dahil sa isa ko pang soap opera. Medyo mahirap yung naging proseso ko kaya kailangang handang-handa sa lahat," remarked Mike.

He added that it also helped that he is working with versatile actors and actresses like Alessandra da Rosi, Lovi Poe and Heart Evangelista. The one who inspired him to work harder and become a better actor is multi-awarded actor and filmmaker Eddie Garcia.

"Lagi kaming magka-eksena so nakakahiyang magkamali. Kapag naisip nating kung ilan taon si Tito Eddie tapos wala kang maririnig na angal kahit madaling araw na, nakakahiyang mag-reklamo," shared Mike.

He saw in Eddie the passion, dedication and professionalism he would like to emulate as an actor.
"Mahirap sundan yung yapak niya kasi director pa siya. Siguro gagawa na lang ako ng sarili kong pangalan with him as my inspiration," he commented.

Among the actresses in the series, he enjoys working with Alessandra.

"Nakakatuwang ka-eksena si Alex. Gusto ko siyang katrabaho and artista and kaibigan. Kung meron mang totoong tao siya ang pinaka-totoong taong nakilala ko. Talagang ilalabas niya kung anong nararamdaman niya, iniisip niya kung anong kalokohang tumatakbo sa isip niya ipapakita niya sa yo. Para sa akin mas ok yun kasi walang pretentions na nangyayari," he said.

Enjoying kontrabida roles

Mike’s role in "Legacy" also made him realize that he likes playing a "kontrabida" role more because there are numerous ways to interpret it.

He would steal Lovi’s riches after making her fall for him in “Legacy.”

"Nakakadala yung kissing scene namin ni Lovi. She made me feel that there was no reason to get nervous. She told me na wag ako kabahan and trabaho lang yun and to just let it all out," opined Mike.

What's next for him after "Legacy?"
Sexy roles sans limits
At the moment he still has no idea. Since GMA Artist Center is grooming him as a sexy-dramatic-actor, Mike is open to the possibility of doing sexy roles but with limitations.

"Depende talaga sa material kung maganda siya and kailangan talaga siya. Di ako basta gagawa para lang mapakita katawan," he quipped. "Para sa akin hindi mo kailangang ipakita yung mga sensitive parts mo para masabing maganda ang isang pelikula."
