Ellen Adarna defines 'sexy'

For Ellen Adarna, being sexy or beautiful involves more than just physical appearance. It’s the personality that makes a woman stand out.

“For me, ang dami kong name-meet na sexy. Pero once you get to know them, walang laman. Boring. Maganda lang tingnan, walang personality,” Ellen told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! in an interview on Friday, May 25, at the Fiamma Bar in Makati City.

She added that it’s the personality that makes her exclaim, “Wow, ang ganda niya! Gumaganda every time!”

This certainly isn’t a case of a pot calling the kettle black. During the interview, Ellen exuded charm and humor that enhanced her sexy image. She even spoke eloquently about her stand on the impeachment trial of Supreme Court Justice Renato Corona.

But Ellen doesn’t find herself sexy.

“That’s the thing. When you know me, as in if you really know me, I’m far from being sexy,” the 24-year-old Kapuso star shared. “I’m far from being the girl that you imagine (me to be).”

Although she’s known for being sexy, Ellen explained that it’s all just work for her.

“You wear this, you pose like this, but it’s not something I carry with me outside that,” Ellen said, adding she doesn’t care if people think of her differently because of the image she projects.

“With me, I don’t care. Because I know me. I know myself. I’m very secure of myself. And once you get to know me, I’m far from being that. It’s really up to them. People will always judge.”

Happy but pressured

But there’s no denying the fact that men find Ellen sexy. Last year, she ranked 10th in FHM Philippines’ Sexiest Woman of the World list. This year, she’s fifth on the current partial rankings.

“I’m happy but more pressured,” she said when asked about her current FHM standing. “Yung nasa top five except me, they’re all leading ladies. Like they’ve done so much. And like me, wala pa akong masyadong projects. So pressure siya talaga. They’re big names, they’re big stars.”

Among those in the partial top four of the FHM Philippines list are Sam Pinto and Angel Locsin.

Doesn’t Ellen think it is an achievement to be in the company of some of the country’s top female stars?

“Hindi ko nai-isip na achievement siya. I think of it as pressure talaga.”

No rush

Although she has regular TV work, care of GMA-7’s “Bubble Gang” and an upcoming movie (“Boy Pick-Up: The Movie”), Ellen admits she hasn’t done much in showbiz. Still, she’s not in a hurry.

“If I’m offered projects, then good. But kung wala, e di okay lang din. While waiting, I’m just taking my time,” Ellen said, adding that she knows she needs to put more effort in improving her craft as an actress.

“I’m not ready yet kasi I really need to work on my acting pa. I need to do more workshops. So I’m not in a hurry kasi alam ko namang I’m not ready yet.”

The waiting game is over for Megan

Now that she’s playing the lead in ABS-CBN’s TV drama “Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Hiyas,” Megan Young doesn’t regret waiting a long time for her big break to come along.

“It’s a good feeling, but it’s also challenging kasi nasanay na ako na ako yung nang-aapi, masama. It’s good they (ABS-CBN management) trusted me to do this good project and they also expect a lot from me,” she said at a press conference at the ABS-CBN compound on Tuesday, May 22.

Out of her comfort zone

As Sapphire, Megan had to leave her comfort zone and fun, quirky image.

“I was really scared kasi noong time na sinabi yung offer, that was the height of “Kristine” series. Natakot ako na baka ganoon (ka-daring) din ang gagawin ko. But direk Lauren (Dyogi) said na classy pa rin siya lalabas,” Megan added.

Playing support (in “Won’t Last a Day Without You,” “I Love Betty La Fea” and “Enteng ng Ina Mo”) has helped Megan hone her acting skills.

Now that “Hiyas” is finally airing after a year of waiting, Megan’s sadness has been replaced by excitement. She thinks ABS-CBN management is correct in waiting for the right time to air the series.

“It's a good feeling and I want to focus more on that rather sa feeling ko na bakit ang tagal na ipinalabas,” Megan said.

Getting a diploma

The third year student of Film attends classes regularly at the College of St. Benilde. It’s not easy, but Megan is determined to finish school.

“Sa totoo lang, hirap na hirap talaga ako. It’s very hard, lalo na ngayong I’m in my third year. Puro major subjects kami, sobrang madugo,”she admitted.

Getting a college diploma is one of Megan’s biggest goals.

“Ang priorities ko ngayon, I’m doing well in school, third year na ako. Kapag naka-graduate na ako, iyon ang hiyas na makukuha ko, which is my diploma.”

As for her personal life, Megan denied she and GMA-7 actor Mikael Daez are more than friends.

“We just laugh about it. It’s something that we can laugh about, bring up, tease each other for. It was just a fun issue to talk about.”

Megan thinks the rumor surfaced because she and Mikael have the same circle of college friends.

She shared that she chose to stay single for now since she doesn’t want to rush into a relationship. Love, for her will come at the right time.

“Ayaw kong ipilit ang sarili ko if hindi naman dapat, hindi ready and if it doesn’t happen at the right time. Bakit ka pa magri-relationship para lang masabi na may relationship ka? I want it to happen na everything will fall into place.”

Paul Salas wants to emulate uncle Dingdong Dantes

Fourteen-year-old actor Paul Salas likes to follow in the footsteps of his uncle, Dingdong Dantes.

“Parang tito ko po, si Dingdong (Dantes), gusto ko po sundan yung footsteps niya,” Paul said in an interview on Friday, May 25.

Paul shared that Dingdong always guides him on acting and how to handle his showbiz career. Paul’s father, Jim Salas, was a member of Universal Motion Dancers.

“Lagi niya akong tinuturuan noong bata pa ako. Kinausap po niya ako noong sa “Mula sa Puso,” sabi niya na may mga features raw ako na maganda. Kahit ano raw ang mangyari sa akin, huwag raw po akong magbago at huwag kalimutan si God,” Paul said.

The star of “Aryana” also admires Kapamilya actors Coco Martin, Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz.

“Si Coco Martin, idol na idol ko po siya. Sobrang galing niya po umarte. Sana maging ganoon din po ako, gusto ko po matuto sa kanya,” he said.

Paul feels happy “Aryana” is rating well.

“Nagpapathank you po kami kay Lord kasi binbigyan po kami ng successful na show, tsaka yung mga Twitter fans namin, sa mga manonood na walang sawa ang suporta sa amin. Sobrang saya po kasi (since) “Okatokat,” pangarap ko na magkaroon ng sariling show, tapos primetime pa. Pressured kasi first time ko sa primetime, big role then ka-love team ko yung bida.”

Shy with girls

Paul sees a few similarities between Marlon Salvador, his character in “Aryana” and himself. Like Marlon, for instance, Paul admits he is playful but shy with girls.

“Masasabi ko pong parang ako kasi makulit wala pang alam na torpe, wala pang alam sa mga ganyan ganyan, So masasabi ko pong parang ako talaga si Marlon pero hindi naman po 100 percent.

Paul admitted having a few crushes, but he hasn’t courted anyone yet since he thinks he’s still too young for relationships.

“Crush-crush lang. Mga nagagandahan, pero hindi pa umaabot sa ligaw kasi hindi pa ako ready. Hindi ko pa po iniisip kasi bata pa po ako.”

Puppy love may be common among teenagers like him, but Paul says he is not ready for it since he’s is still a kid at heart. In fact, he thinks he’s not yet at the right age to have a girlfriend.

“Kahit teenager na po ako ngayon, pero kapag nakikita ninyo ako sa bahay, parang bata pa rin ako. Makulit. Wala po po ako talaga sa tamang edad para magka-girlfriend.”

Although Paul keeps on saying in interviews that he finds Ella pretty, he says that she’s more of a sister to him. That’s because they have worked when they were still kids.

“Ang bait-bait ni Ella. Parang kapatid ko na po siya, kasi kahit noong bata pa kami naka-trabaho ko na siya. So, ngayon magsasama na po kami ng matagal sa ‘Aryana,’ so masaya.”

Rocco: Urian non-nomination not an issue

Rocco Nacino said his non-nomination in this year’s Gawad Urian is not an issue for him.

“Ganun po talaga, hindi mo naman makukuha lahat. Merong makakapansin sa iyo, merong hindi. Pero hindi po masama ang loob ko,” the Kapuso star told members of the press on May 24, Thursday.

The 25-year-old actor was poised to sweep acting awards this year with his acclaimed portrayal in the 2011 Cinemalaya independent film “Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa,” for which he won acting trophies from the Golden Screen Awards and the Star Awards for Movies.

But the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, which runs the Urian awards, nominated Rocco’s “Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa” co-star Paulo Avelino in the Best Actor category instead.

Still, Rocco said this only motivates him to work harder next time.

“Basta ako po, nagpapasalamat po ako doon sa mga nakapansin at nagbigay sa akin ng award,” he added.

On juggling career, love life
Despite the snub, Rocco still has a lot to be thankful for. He just wrapped up taping for his afternoon soap opera “The Good Daughter” and is the lead star of the independent film “Lam-Ang.”

The actor denied rumors that the production took a shooting break due to budget problems. According to Rocco, shooting resumes in June.

“Wala naman po talagang problemang ganun. Kinausap ko naman po yung producer namin, wala namang problema. Wala raw naman pong problema sa budget.”

Rocco explained, “Schedule lang naman po ang problema. Ang totoo po kasi, naka-schedule talaga itong break namin for May. Tapos sa June 28 na po ang balik namin ng Ilocos para mag-resume ng shooting.”

Does his special friend Sheena Halili ever get jealous of his busy schedule and how it makes him work with a number of actresses?

“Hindi naman. Busy rin si Sheena sa work e,” he shared. Sheena is part of the weekly sitcom “Tweets for My Sweet” and the daily show “Alice Bungisngis and Her Wonder Walis” on GMA-7.

He added that they try to make time for each other despite their hectic work schedules.

“Kung gugustuhin mo talaga may paraan naman. Kahit yung tipong sabay lang kaming mag-lunch o mag-dinner, ganun. May communication naman kami pag magkalayo kami.”

Is Rocco open to working with Sheena in a movie or a television show?

“Why not? Yun naman ang sinasabi ko e, kahit kanino pwede akong i-pair lalo na kay Sheena pa, di ba? Pero syempre GMA pa rin ang magde-decide pagdating sa ganyan. Pero sana, gusto ko rin.”

Dennis downplays ladies’ man image

Aside from his acting prowess, Dennis Trillo is well-known for his winning way with women. Ogie Alcasid, his co-star in “Boy Pick-Up” sums it best: “Hindi na kailangan ni Dennis ang pick-up lines!”

And he could be right. Because beautiful women – Carlene Aguilar (mother of his three-year-old son Calix), Cristine Reyes, Jennylyn Mercado and Bianca King – fall for him as easily as a leaf falls from a tree without anyone touching it.

But Dennis is the first to downplay this ladies’ man image.

“Siguro ganon ang image kasi mostly showbiz ang ka-relasyon ko,” he explains. “Pero kung papipiliian ako, ayoko ng ganong image.”

He would rather be known as a good actor “na pilit ginagampanan ang lahat ng trabaho ko.”

Take his role as the dark force in Boy Pick-Up’s (Ogie) life, for instance.

“May utang na loob ako kay Ogie kasi binigyan niya ako ng chance na magampanan ang dream role ko,” Dennis relates. “For the first time, ginawa kong maangas ang villain role na ito. Sa bawat superhero sa pelikula, kailangang may matinding kalaban para maganda ang contrast.”

Dennis followed Ogie’s idea of a “dark knight na villain na mala-Heath Ledger.”

But no, “Boy Pick-Up” is no suspense horror. It’s a comedy. So Dennis added humor to his Bagwis role. He refuses to say how he did it. Just watch the film, he teases.

The bad boy role is temporary, though. Dennis reverts to romantic lead in July, when he hopes to do a primetime soap. Dennis is just as excited about “Ang Katiwala,” an indie film to be shown at the Cinemalaya Film Festival in July. A project with award-winning director Brillante Mendoza is under negotiation.

Bianca and Calix

Dennis’ personal life is just as rosy. Girlfriend Bianca King and Calix are hitting it off well, with the boy obeying his “Tita’s” wishes all the time.

“Happy ako na close sila. Walang negative energy, panay positive vibes lang,” Dennis reveals.”Sa akin lang hindi nakikinig ang bata. Nawiwili siya dahil spoiler ako. Minsan tumitigas ang ulo niya.”

Like all dads, Dennis wants his child to be always happy.

“I try to give Calix lahat ng nagpapasaya sa kanya.”

In fairness to his son, Dennis says the boy knows his limits. He behaves in front of other people, like Bianca, of course.

“Matalino ang bata,” Dennis crows.

The boy doesn’t run for cover when he sees his dad’s body riddled with scary tattoos in the “Boy Pick-Up” trailer.

“I explain to him that I’m just pretending to be bad. Naiintindihan niya yon. Mabilis siya maka-pick up,” Dennis points out.

And that’s why Bianca is on the right track. By hitting it off well with Calix, she is winning more and more points in Dennis’ heart.

Jillian Ward and Mona Louise Rey, the lead child stars of the GMA primetime show “Luna Blanca,” spent an enchanting afternoon yesterday, May 27, at the Enchanted Kingdom theme park in Sta. Rosa, Laguna with lucky mother-daughter tandems as part of their program’s post-Mother’s Day online promo.

Two weeks ago, GMA launched an online promo asking netizens why they love their mothers. GMA Network fans on Facebook posted their answers on GMA’s Facebook Fan Page (www.facebook.com/gmanetwork) and from among those who responded, five winners were selected via raffle. The winners were given a chance to meet Jillian Ward who portrays the character of “Luna” and Mona Louise Rey who portrays the role of “Blanca” in Luna Blanca. The lucky winners also spent a day with the two child stars at the most popular theme park in the Philippines, Enchanted Kingdom.

A brief program was held at the Spaceport Zone of the theme park, where Jillian and Mona performed and hosted games for kids.

Jillian sang the Adele hit “Rolling in the Deep” and “Listen” from the musical film Dream Girls, while Mona Louise did a dance number.

Before hitting the theme park’s fun rides, Jillian and Mona thanked their fans: “Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat dahil sa suporta ninyo sa amin. Sana po ay panoorin ninyo ang ‘Luna Blanca’ after 24 Oras sa GMA,” they said.




Their show ‘Luna Blanca’

Jillian and Mona top-bill the first of the three “generations” in the story of “Luna Blanca.”

“Luna Blanca” tells of twins Luna and Blanca who are separated from each other when their mother Rowena (portrayed by Camille Prats) decides to put Blanca up for adoption to a rich woman. Rowena did so because she wanted Blanca to have a better future — one which she certainly could not provide. Luna, however, will have to deal with poverty and her mother’s indifference towards her. Luna is Rowena’s daughter with an engkanto who raped her when she was pregnant with Blanca. She sees Luna as a reminder of that gruesome incident and that explains why she mistreats her.

In the second generation of the three-part story, tween stars Barbie Forteza and Bea Binene will portray the characters of Blanca and Luna, respectively, and in the third generation, Heart Evangelista will portray Blanca’s character, while Bianca King portrays that of Luna’s.

Kapamilya child wonder Xyriel Manabat shares the value of honesty not only to fellow kids but to the whole family as well in the continuation of her “Wansapanataym” special this Saturday, June 2.

In this week’s ‘Mia Palusot’ episode, Xyriel portrays the role of Maimai, a dishonest child who is fond of making excuses to escape from doing her school works. As Maimai continues to make alibis, a mysterious man punishes her and made all her lies true to life. Until when will Maimai make excuses to avoid her responsibilities? Will she finally learns the value of honesty when her lies put her family’s life at risk?

Together with Xyriel in the episode are Ian de Leon, Angelu de Leon, Lloyd Zaragosa, Amy Nobleza, and Kimberly Fulgar. It is written by Philip King and directed by Jon Villarin.

Nothin’ But a Good Time in ‘Rock of Ages’


Hollywood’s famed Sunset Strip, 1987. Rockers wail and heads bang inside the packed and pulsating walls of a rock ‘n’ roll institution, The Bourbon Room. Heart strings are plucked and electric guitar sparks fly to the beat of some of the greatest hits of the `80s…the “Rock of Ages.”

The Broadway hit now goes from stage to screen with Warner Bros.’ epic musical “Rock of Ages” under the direction of Adam Shankman (“Hairspray”). Shankman, who grew up in Los Angeles, felt right at home in the setting. “My dad was a music business manager, and his office was on the Strip,” he says. “I knew a lot of artists. I was choreographing music videos in 1987 and it was a world that I really understood and loved, so turning back that clock was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

At the core of the film is a boy-meets-girl love story woven into classic, only-in-Hollywood dreams of fame. Shankman’s sister and producing partner, Jennifer Gibgot, elaborates, “Like so many people in L.A., the young lovers in ‘Rock of Ages’ have come here hoping to make it big and thinking it’s going to be easy. But it turns out to be a lot harder to stay on the path, to keep believing in the thing that led them there in the first place.”




Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta portray the young couple with stars in their eyes at the center of the story. They are joined by an all-star cast that includes Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Mary J. Blige, Malin Akerman and Catherine Zeta-Jones. And playing the rock god of “Rock of Ages,” Arsenal lead singer Stacee Jaxx, is Tom Cruise.




For Shankman, the journey began when he went to see “Rock of Ages” on the stage. He recalls, “The audience was having the best time I’d ever seen at a show. Everybody knew the lyrics to all the songs and was out of their seats and singing along and having the time of their life. That enthusiasm, that sheer emotion, convinced me to make the movie.”

It wasn’t his only reason for revisiting the era, however. “I thought it would be an interesting challenge to make a movie musical that guys would drag their girlfriends to for a change.”

Shankman’s “Rock of Ages” is based on the Broadway smash, which earned five Tony Award nominations and is still entertaining audiences on the Great White Way as well as in touring productions around the world. The show’s book was written by Chris D’Arienzo, who is also a writer and executive producer on the film.

The story, about pursuing your heart’s desire, is backed by incredible songs and set on the iconic Sunset Strip, a place emblematic of the time, a place where fantasies could become reality, and did. Where a band from nowhere could perform at the Whiskey or The Roxy and wind up with a record deal.

Writer Justin Theroux enjoyed working on the screenplay for the jukebox musical, an opportunity he describes as “a totally different experience. In a weird way, you write backwards from the point of view of the song. The song is always the emotional center for the characters in any given scene, so it’s fun to try to get them to that specific destination. The song does a lot of the emotional heavy lifting for you, but you have to build ramps up and down, to and from, that centerpiece.”

Writer Allan Loeb also took pleasure in fiddling around with the script’s musical moments. “At times there are two songs playing off each other, going back and forth between the different storylines, with a lot of intercutting, to enable the song to serve more than one set of characters,” he details. “So the challenge was to shuffle the story and the verses, while also allowing for the choreography, until everyone explodes into a mash-up of the songs’ choruses. That’s how they did it on stage and how we handled it in the screenplay, and it was great fun to write.”

Says Shankman, “What’s often the most difficult and compelling thing about a musical like ‘Rock of Ages’ is that half of a song is played as performance and the other half as dialogue or inner monologue. I think the writers did a great job of turning a terrific stage show into a real cinematic experience. I’d like to see the movie-going audiences jumping out of their seats just like the theater audience did, and I think this story and these characters and this rockin’ music, performed by our unexpected and unbelievably talented cast, just might get them on their feet.”

“Men in Black 3” Grosses P68.73-M, Opens at Number 1 in the Philippines


Alien-hunting black-suited secret agents have invaded the top of the box office.

Columbia Pictures' sci-fi action comedy “Men In Black 3” starring Will Smith opened at No. 1 in the Philippines, amassing a nationwide gross of an out-of-this-world P68.73-million for the five-day opening weekend May 23-27 frame. This was announced today by Victor R. Cabrera, managing director of Columbia Pictures Philippines.

“Men In Black 3's” first weekend haul in the Philippines is the second best opening of 2012 for a foreign movie, behind only “Marvel’s The Avengers” and beating the bows of “Wrath of the Titans” (P62.5-million), “The Hunger Games” (P62.3- million) and “Battleship” (P46.3-million).
In the U.S., the sequel which reunited Smith with co-star Tommy Lee Jones and director Barry Sonnenfeld, effectively wrestled away the box-office crown from “Marvel's The Avengers” which has dominated the North American tills for the past weeks. "Men in Black 3" debuted as the No. 1 movie over the Memorial Day holiday weekend with $55 million. Distributor Sony estimates that by the end of the four-day holiday weekend Monday, "Men in Black 3" will have pulled in $202 million worldwide.

Back in the Philippines, “MIB 3” rolled out on 260 screens, with SM Mall of Asia getting the lion's share of sales with P3.95-M, followed closely by SM North EDSA (P3.86-M) and Trinoma (P3.55-M).

Other top performing cinemas are Power Plant (P2.64-M), Greenbelt 3 (P2.41-M), SM Megamall (P2.40-M), Newport (P2.12-M), Glorietta 4 (P2.05-M), SM Cebu (P1.95-M) and Alabang Town Center (P1.93-M).

The blockbuster tandem of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo was featured in a news program of ORF, the National TV station of Austria.

The pair talked about their newest Philippine TV series "A Beautiful Affair" in the interview which were dubbed in German.

JLC and Bea are in Vienna, Austria to shoot their scenes for the said TV series which will also mark their 10 years together as a loveteam.

According to the report, this is the first time that a Philippine production got support from the Vienna Film Commission and the local government of Salzburg.

Footage of the TV soap showing John Lloyd and Bea running on the street while holding hands was also shown in the news.

Nick Fairley is at it again. He was arrested on Sunday morning in Alabama for driving under the influence, allegedly attempting to elude authorities, reckless driving, no proof of insurance, and having an open container in his automobile - oh my, that's too much!

According to a report by Fox10TV.com, Fairley posted $1,750 bond and was released shortly after 9 a.m. on Sunday.

It will be recalled that in April, Fairley was also arrested on marijuana possession charges.

Although the organization refused to detailed reasons for their decision, report says that Miller's dismissal had to do with his poor performance against CB Dollaway. Some says it was due to Miller's playful entrances for the weigh-in and his fight. Miller brought a pink boa and boom box to the weigh-in, and he wore a paper bag out to the Octagon on Saturday.

Masaya si Toni Gonzaga at Paul Soriano na kahit dumarami na ang mga celebrity couples na naghihiwalay ay nananatili pa ring matatag ang kanilang relasyon. Para kay Toni, walang formula ang isang magandang relasyon dahil ito ay nakasalalay lamang sa magkasintahan at itinanggi na magpapakasal na sila ni Paul. Pinagdadasal naman daw nina Toni Gonzaga at Paul Soriano na huwag silang humantong sa hiwalayan. Kung sakali naman na umayaw na ang isa sa relasyon ay ito na maaari ang dahilan para matapos ito. Sa ngayon ay nagpapasalamat si Toni dahil naging maganda pa rin ang takbo ng kanilang pagmamahalan ni Paul.

Down to Mars to represent PH in South Korea

The Tourism Department has tapped all-male group Down to Mars to represent the Philippines at the National Day of Korea on July 22, when they make their bid for international recognition by performing three songs – two in English and one in Korean.

This was announced at the group’s album launch and press conference on May 22 at Dolce Bar, Timog Morato, Quezon City.

Down to Mars is made up of half-Japanese Daisuke Hagihara, half-Chinese Kenji Chua, Yheen Valero, Sky Young, Jang Seung and half-Koreans Kiro Rivera and Jeong Won. Because of their mixed ethnic backgrounds, Down to Mars calls itself an “inter-pop” group (as opposed to J-pop or K-pop groups).

Humble beginnings

Talent manager-choreographer Geleen Eugenio discovered the members in 2011, when she saw Jang and Daisuke perform in a segment on GMA 7’s “Party Pilipinas.”

“Tapos tingin ako nang tingin, sabi ko, ano ‘to, ha—may dating,” Geleen shares. She also revealed that she mistook the two for foreigners.

“English ako nang English,” she recalls.

Jang and Daisuke then introduced the other five members of the group and performed for Geleen.

“After two days, they came to me. Tapos nakita ko sila, talagang may dating talaga. Tapos they sang to me. Tapos immediately, naisip ko na na mag-artist center sila. So pumunta kami kay Ma’am Wilma (Galvante, then GMA-7’s SVP for entertainment).”

Geleen now acts as the group’s manager.

The band members have been good friends even before they got together as a group.

“Wala pa po kami sa showbiz, magkakaibigan na po kami,” Daisuke shares.

“Nakatira po kami sa isang bahay. Wala po sa isip namin ang hiwa-hiwalay kasi, ngayon pa lang po, ito na ang na-achieve ng aming grupo,” he adds when asked about the possibility of splitting up, as other groups have done.

The guys add that their group’s name, Down to Mars is inspired by the idiom ‘down-to-earth’, which connotes extreme humility.

First album

Their first TV gig was on May 22, 2011, exactly a year before the press conference and release of their self-titled first album distributed by Poly East Records.

Its five tracks are composed by Kenjie, Jang and Jeongwon. The music video of the carrier single “My Everything” stars Marian Rivera. The band dedicated this and the rest of the tracks -- “Fool’s Paradise,” “Fly,” “Oh Here We Are” and “Nandito Lang Ako” to Galvante, who came to the album launch.

Grace Lee continues boycott of Chinese products

TV host and former radio DJ Grace Lee continues her self-imposed boycott of Chinese products.

Last May 24 during the launch of her new show "Cooking With the Stars," Grace said she was on her seventh day of not using Chinese products.

It will be recalled that Grace enjoined Filipinos to boycott Chinese products at the height of the Scarborough Shoal conflict. The move got mixed reactions.

Personal trial

"Marami mga masamang tweets about this, na ibo-boycott din daw ako ng Chinese community, but I said naman the Chinese products that we have we should appreciate them. I have high respect for the Chinese government and the Chinese community. I have a lot of friends na Chinese. Ang sa akin lang, it's a personal trial, kung hanggang kailan ako makakatagal not using Chinese products."

Grace’s show, "Cooking With the Stars" premieres on Monday (May 28) and will be shown on GMA 7 at 9:55 to 10:05 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with replays on GMA News TV every Tuesday and Thursday, 7-7:10 p.m. and on Saturday at 6:45 to 6:55p.m.

Grace will be working with SMPFC's Culinary Center's top chefs led by Maricel Manalo, Martin del Prado, Rene Ruz and Kai Verdadero.

A better cook

After acquiring a diploma in Culinary Arts, Grace is prepared for the culinary challenges of her show.

"With my first show, "Etherea" which was about food, cooking and travel, I had no formal training. But now I am more equipped. Hilig ko talaga magluto at gusto ko making knowledgeable tungkol dito."

Dream guest

Grace’s dream guest is Sen. Miriam Santiago.

"Yong ipagluluto ko? Si Senator Miriam Santiago!" Why? "I want to calm her with good food. Pag nakikita ko kasi siya sa TV na galit na galit, natatakot ako na baka may lalabas na lang na dugo sa ulo niya. That's why I want to cook for her food that will calm her nerves. Baka Beef Stew."

As to what food she would liken the senator to, Grace said, "Pinakbet, with the many interesting flavors coming together in that dish."

She added: "I really love Senator Miriam. I love yung pagka-candid niya and her honesty. And her ability to make people laugh. She's so intelligent."

Grace never had the chance to meet the feisty lady senator. "But I know that with her honesty, she would tell me to my face kung gusto niya o hindi ang luto ko."

How about P-Noy? Grace Lee only had this to say,"Mahilig din siya sa Korean food so maybe I will cook for him a beef dish the Korean way."

Mona doesn’t let juvenile diabetes bring her down

Mona Louise Rey, star of GMA 7’s daily fantasy drama Luna Blanca, has juvenile diabetes. The seven-year-old girl can’t have candy, ice cream, chocolate and other sweets kids her age enjoy. But this doesn’t stop her from smiling, laughing, dancing, trying the rides at Enchanted Kingdom and having fun the way her friend and co-star Jillian Ward does.

Her sunshiny attitude can shame her pessimistic elders.

“Parang wala rin po,” she told the press. “Alam kong mawawala rin poi to baling araw. Lagi na lang ako nagpe-pray kay God na mawala na ang diabetes ko.”

Jillian cheers her up by bringing Barbie dolls – Mona’s favorite plaything – on the set of Luna Blanca.

“Para kaming sisters,” she relates. “Hindi namin iniisip na may sakit siya. We always pray. Hindi ko siya binibigyan ng candy. Naglalaro kami at nagkakantahan. Minsan, nagdadala ako ng dalawang Barbie – minsan tatlo.”

Both turn a deaf ear on intrigues pitting them against each other.“Never ever!” Jillian stresses. “Wala akong alam diyan.” Mona agrees.

“Walang sapawan, walang inggitan,” she adds.

Why, the girls even have the same favorite song number: Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” And their favorite local song number happens to be Regine Velasquez’s “Isang Lahi.”

Why can’t we learn a thing or two from these showbiz babes?

Jose Manalo, Nicco Manalo may away?

Tikom pa rin ang bibig ng indie actor na anak ni Jose Manalo na si Nicco Manalo patungkol sa sitwasyon ng kanilang pamilya at itinanggi rin na galit siya sa kaniyang ama. Matatandaang nagkaroon ng problema si Jose at ina ni Nicco na si Annalyn dahil umano sa pakikipagrelasyon ng komedyante sa isang dancer. Iniwasan na ni Nicco Manalo magbigay pa ng komento sa partikular na detaye patungkol sa amang si Jose Manalo. Aniya, kasalukuyan na raw itong nasa korte kung kaya hindi na raw ito dapat pag-usapan pa. Ayon kay Nicco, masyado na raw makulay ang buhay nila ng kaniyang pamilya at mukhang nadagdagan pa nang malaman ng publiko ang awayan ng amang si Jose at asawa nito.

Marami ang hindi nakakakaalam na may anak si Jose Manalo na nasa industriya ng pag-arte at ito ay ang kaniyang anak na si Nicco Manalo. Siya ang panganay na anak nina Jose at Annalyn sa limang magkakapatid. Kasalukuyang namamalagi si Nicco sa isang city resort na pagmamay-ari ng kaniyang pamilya. Matagal nang humiwalay si Nicco Manalo sa tahanan ng kaniyang mga magulang simula nang siya ay magtrabaho. Gusto raw ni Nicco na malaman na hindi lang siya anak ng isang sikat na komedyanteng si Jose Manalo kundi siya mismo ay isang aktor. Nagsimula si Nicco Manalo umarte sa teatro anim na taon na ang nakakaraan nang magtapos siya ng kolehiyo.

Nananatiling matatag ang binata kahit pa nasangkot sa isang iskandalo ang amang si Jose Manalo. Tumutulong naman daw si Nicco sa sitwasyon para maayos na ang gusot. Gusto rin makatulong ni Nicco Manalo sa pinansyal na aspeto ng kaniyang pamilya kung kaya gusto niyang maghanap pa ng trabaho. Aminado si Nicco na apektado siya sa kasalukuyang sitwasyon ng kaniyang pamilya lalong-lalo na at pareho silang humaharap sa publiko ng amang si Jose dahil sa kanilang mga trabaho. Positibo naman daw ang epekto sa kaniya bilang isang aktor ang naging problema ng kaniyang pamilya. Hindi itinanggi ni Nicco Manalo na hindi na sila madalas magkausap ng kaniyang ina. Samantalang si Jose Manalo raw at asawa nito ay may komunikasyon pa rin.

Natuwa naman si Nicco dahil nagawa ng amang si Jose na panoorin ang kaniyang dula na isang Filipino adaptation ng isang English play. Ayon kay Jose Manalo, matagal na umanong pangarap ng anak na si Nicco Manalo ang umarte. Maliit pa lamang ang binata ay mahilig na raw itong umarte, pagmamalaki pa ng kaniyang ama.

Wala naman daw tampo si Nicco sa kaniyang ama kahit pa hindi naging maganda ang imahe nito nang sampahan ng kaso ng sarili niyang ina. Ngayon ay abala na si Nicco Manalo sa kaniyang trabaho sa telebisyon at kasalukuyang  kasali sa seryeng Valiente. Kay Jose Manalo rin daw muna ipinaalam ng production na gusto nilang kunin ang binata para maging bahagi ng proyekto.
