Regine Velasquez Tribute Concert To Musical Theatre At Solaire Is Absolutely Worth Watching!

CONGRATULATIONS to Regine Velasquez for her successful opening night last Friday of her concert, “Regine at the Theatre”, at Solaire Hotel and Resort. She hasn’t had a solo concert for a while and this tribute of her to musical theatre is really worth watching. She opened it with her knockout rendition of “I Am What I Am” from “La Cage Aux Folles”, with a singing and dancing ensemble of about 20 people interspersing it with songs from other musicals like “The King and I”, “Singin’ in the Rain”, “A Chorus Line”, “Jekyll and Hyde”, etc. It was a very rousing production number, a perfect way to start the show.

She closed the first act with “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked” and opened it with the title song from “Phantom of the Opera” sung with her brother in law, Raul Mitra, who’s also the musical director, as the Phantom. The encore finale is “And I Am Telling You” from “Dreamgirls” (along with “One Night Only”) and she demonstrates other singers still cannot hold a candle to her when doing such birit numbers.
