JACKIE RICE is one of the most promising finds of Starstruck. She was the female winner in Starstruck 3 and she has the sexy good looks that can easily make her achieve stardom. And on top of this, she also can act competently. But sadly, something happened somewhere along the way and Jackie didn’t fulfill her promise. She’s still on the scene, but she’s now relegated to playing supporting roles, like the character she now plays in the afternoon soap, “Buena Familia”. How does she feel about this?
“Somehow, happy naman ako,” she says. “Kasi sa batch namin ng winners in March, 2006, ako na lang ang natira after ten years. Yung male winner (Marky Cielo), we all know he has left us na. Ang runners up namin, sina Iwa Moto and Gian Carlos, parehong may family na. May dalawa kaming ka-batch na active pa rin, Vaness del Moral na nasa ‘Because of You’ ngayon and Arci Munoz who’s with ABS na.”
How does she feel that a Starstruck reject like Alden Richards is now more popular than the actual winners? “Ganun talaga, hindi mo mape-predict what will happen sa career ninuman. Minsan nga, bida kayo, may naglalakad lang na extra sa likod nyo, pero pagdating ng tamang panahon, mas mahihigitan pa pala kayo. Kapalaran talaga nila ni Maine Mendoza na sumikat ngayon and happy ako for them. Ako man, fan din ng AlDub, e.”
Would she want to be paired with Alden? “No, alam naman nating ang fans nila, ;possessive at galit sa lahat ng ibang babae napapalapit kay Alden. Baka patayin ako ng fans nila. Magiging best friend na lang ako ni Yaya Dub. Okay na ko roon.”
What can she say about Starstruck graduates who moved to ABS, like Arci, Paulo Avelino and Sarah Lahbati? “We cannot blame them kasi baka may valid reasons sila sa paglipat. Baka doon sila may trabaho, so huwag tayo basta mag-judge. Baka doon sila mas kikita.”
Has she ever thought of moving also? “Naku, kare-renew ko lang ng kontrata ko sa GMA last August, for another five years. Sa ngayon, hindi naman ako nawawalan ng trabaho rito. Kasi aside from ‘Buena Familia’, nasa ‘Bubble Gang’ din ako. But I really wish na sana, mabigyan nila uli ako ng lead role someday. Kasi napatunayan ko namang kaya kong mag-lead in ‘Sisid’. But after that, puro support na lang ang napunta sa’kin o kontrabida, like in ‘Inamorata’, ‘Bukod Kang Pinagpala’, ‘Second Chances’ and now, in ‘Buena Familia’. So ang prayers ko, makapag-lead sana ako uli.”
