Gretchen moves on

Actress-socialite Gretchen Barretto admits she was hurt over the cancellation of her TV drama “Alta,” but believes ABS-CBN’s upcoming “Princess and I” is a good replacement and a “worthy project.”

“Nasabi ko na rin naman before na I felt so bad noong nawala ang 'Alta.' But then, I guess, through my faith, kapag merong hindi ibinigay sa iyo, at least I found comfort in knowing na kung ano ang ibibigay sa akin ng Diyos is what’s best for me,” Gretchen said at the press conference of “Princess and I” at the ABS-CBN compound on Wednesday, April 11.

She was not keen on talking about “Alta” since it’s a very sensitive topic for her. She explained that she has moved on and accepted God’s plan.

“Sa ngayon nawawala na (yung sakit), syempre we all move on and maganda nga ang project. May panghihinayang but I will never question God's plan. I may have to go through the hurt but that’s it, I have to move on,” she said.

How did her partner Tony Boy Cojuangco support her when Gretchen was hurting over the cancelled drama?

But you can rest in the comfort that God will always give you what’s best.’ So, that’s the valuable advice that I got,” she relates.

Does Gretchen think “Princess and I” is some sort of consolation she is getting in lieu of “Alta”?

Doubts

She admits feeling that way, but only at the start.

“Honestly, I felt that in the beginning when I read the script, Sabi ko, 'Bakit ganito?' I had a lot of questions and for a while gusto ko na mag-back out pero ngayon na nagsho-shoot na kami, malalaman mo na it's not, it's really worth it,” she replied.

Gretchen is happy with her role in “Princess and I,” where she plays a queen for the first time.

“I guess every child has that in them na someday I will be a queen, someday I will be a princess and I will find my prince, you know that type. Pero, it's nice that I am able to play this role,” Gretchen said.

Gretchen went to Bhutan with co-stars Albert Martinez, Kathryn Bernardo, and Enrique Gil to shoot some scenes for the TV drama. Along the way, they had to learn how to speak Dzongkha, the native language in Bhutan.

“Princess and I” premieres in ABS-CBN Primetime Bida on Monday, April 16.

Jay R. Ferguson, from “Mad Men” to “The Lucky One”

Jay R. Ferguson, from “Mad Men” to “The Lucky One”

He had his break out role on TV's acclaimed drama series “Mad Men,” earning rave reviews for his portrayal of Stan Rizzo. Now, Jay R. Ferguson matches wits opposite Zac Efron in Warner Bros.' new romantic drama “The Lucky One,” based on the bestselling novel by Nicholas Sparks.

In the film, U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive - a photograph he found of a woman he doesn’t even know. Discovering her name is Beth (Taylor Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.

Beth’s ex-husband, is the town’s Deputy Sheriff, Keith Clayton (Ferguson), who uses their young son Ben as a pawn to intimidate and control Beth. It only gets worse when he jealously starts to view Logan as an interloper in his family.

Ferguson states, “Keith uses his position as a sheriff and as Ben’s father to his advantage. He likes to keep Beth in a box with that power. When Logan comes to town, it’s the first time anyone has challenged him without backing down.”

Keith is the antagonist in the film but, as with all great antagonists, you have to feel for him in some way. Jay has a great power and on-screen presence, which is layered and textured so you see a real conflict is going on inside him,” director Scott Hicks notes.

I found the series of interconnected relationships between these different people so compelling,” Hicks continues. “It’s not just the promise of romance between Logan and Beth. There are four individuals whose lives are ultimately changed when Logan finds that photo in the sand.”

Ferguson made his screen debut at age 14 portraying Ponyboy in Francis Ford Coppola’s episodic follow-up to his classic film “The Outsiders,” based on the novel by S.E. Hinton.

Other television credits include regular roles in several television series, including Showtime’s Emmy-nominated “Sleeper Cell,” NBC’s “Surface,” CW’s “Easy Money” and CBS’ “Evening Shade.”

Ferguson’s feature film credits include Michael Winterbottom’s “The Killer Inside Me” and John Singleton’s “Higher Learning.”

On stage, he has performed in Brazilian director Gulu Monteiro’s “A Flea In Her Ear” at The Stages Theatre in Hollywood and “The Good Soul Of Szechwan” at the Electric Lodge Theatre.
Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, April 19, “The Lucky One” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Shea Weber Pays $2,500 Fine for Hitting Henrik Zetterberg

Shea Weber Pays $2,500 Fine for Hitting Henrik Zetterberg

Shea Weber, Nashville Predators defenseman, has been fined $2,500 for delivering an illegal blow to the head of Henrik Zetterberg last night, according to the official NHL website.

This was a reckless and reactionary play on which Weber threw a glancing punch and then shoved Zetterberg’s head into the glass,” said NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety and Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan. “As is customary whenever Supplemental Discipline is being considered, we contacted Detroit following the game and were informed that Zetterberg did not suffer an apparent injury and should be in the lineup for Game 2.”

“This play and the fine that addressed it will be significant factors in assessing any incidents involving Shea Weber throughout the remainder of the playoffs.”
This is Weber’s second fine of the 2011-2012 season, having been flagged in October for a boarding call.

Weber currently serves as Nashville’s captain, and has been a member of the team since 2004. This season he has scored 19 goals and tallied 30 assists. During his career with the Predators he has had 99 goals and 164 assists.
