SHOW DESCRIPTION: Encantadia (2016 TV series) is a Filipino fantasy television series by GMA Network. It is dubbed as the modern requel (retelling-sequel) to the 2005 fantasy series with the same name. The show was first aired on July 18, 2016 in the Philippines and worldwide through GMA Pinoy TV.

The cast including those who will portray the sang'gres or keepers of the four gems were revealed on April 4, 2016. Kylie Padilla played the role of Amihan, Alena by Gabbi Garcia, Danaya by Sanya Lopez and Pirena by Glaiza de Castro.

It is based from the hit sineserye produced by the same network, Kung Aagawin Mo Ang Langit which stars Carla Abellana, Mike Tan and Michelle Madrigal.

Encantadia is a vast and magical continent in an "unnamed", enchanted realm. It comprises three kingdoms: Lireo, Sapiro and Hathoria. These three kingdoms, and the Lirean territory, Adamya, bear the four elemental gems that hold the continent in balance. Lireo, in the east, is the kingdom that cared for the gemstones of air and water, with its territory, Adamya. Sapiro, the northern kingdom, kept the gemstone of earth and had its lands blessed with precious metals and stones, and its soil fertile unlike any other land. Hathoria, the kingdom of the west, held the gemstone of fire and utilized it for the development of weapons and war machinery.

The three kingdoms were able to live in peace, but day came when the Hathors (inhabitants of Hathoria) gave in to their greed and started a war to claim the other gems, that they may gain power and rule over the whole continent. The Hathors first waged war with the Sapiro, in pursuit of the gemstone of earth. The Sapiryan king, King Armeo, before Sapiro's fall, was able to kill the Hathor king and claim the gemstone of fire. Sapiro, after the war, was left in ruins. While the death of the Hathor king, and the loss of the gemstone of fire, weakened the Hathor force and made them retreat. King Armeo gave the gemstone of fire and earth to his older cousin, Raquim, and willed that the gemstones be given to Ynang Reyna of Lireo for safekeeping. The four gems have not been separated since.

Years have passed and the story unfolds in Lireo, where Ynang Reyna, Minea, will choose her successor from her daughters Pirena, Amihan, Alena and Danaya. She and Imaw, an elder from Adamya, can feel imminent danger lurking, and as the gods call her to Devas, she has to leave the kingdom of Lireo in good and capable hands. She put her daughters to the test to see their capabilities and know who is best fit to be the next queen. Minea chooses and crowns Amihan, which to Pirena's dismay, led to her rebellion. The chain of events that transpired made way for the separation of the gemstones. Pirena, after having stolen the gemstone of fire sided with the Hathors and gave them back the power they've lost. Hathor now plans to rise up from hiding and bring Lireo to its demise, with the end in view of ruling over the whole of Encantadia.

Maestra Movie Review: A Well Acted Advocacy Movie That Pays Sincere Tribute To The Noble But Low-Paying Teaching Profession

WE WERE invited to the special screening at Crossroads of Dr. Carl Balita's loving tribute to teachers, "Maestra", and there were about 3,000 teachers who watched it with selected members of the press. They're obviously very pleased with the movie because they were screaming cheers of approval for many scenes all throughout the screening.

Since this is an advocacy film made primarily to pay homage to teachers, it's perfectly understandable that it portrays teachers as selfless heroines who sacrifice a lot of things in the practice of their chosen profession. The film introduces us to three different teachers and it starts with a young education student, Aya (Anna Luna), who is discouraged by her own dad (William Martinez) in her desire to be a teacher as it's a low paying job.

But Aya won't be swayed as she is so driven and dedicated in her ambition to help impart knowledge to young minds. She gets to finish her course, then we see her going to Dr. Carl Balita's review center to prepare for the board licensure exams for teachers. It is there that she meets Gennie (Angeli Bayani), an Aeta assistant teacher who has taken the board exams several times but always fails it. Aya then helps her to review her and they become closer to one another, with Gennie taking Aya to the school for Aeta kids where she works up in the mountains.

In the review school, Aya also meets Prof. Esperanza "Espie" Bautista (Gloria Sevilla), who's already 84 years old but continues to teach. Her daughter, Suzette Ranillo, is convincing her to retire and just join her and her family in Pangasinan but she rejects the idea. She says that even if she retires, she'll still go on writing books to share her wealth of experiences in teaching.

The movie is quite well directed by Lem Lorca who certainly knows how to accomplish the intentions of this special project in glorifying teachers. There are some slow stretches when it becomes quite didactic, but overall, it's worth watching, mainly because of the very good acting of the three leads.

Anna Luna is so relaxed, so natural that she doesn't seem to be acting at all. She has a romantic interest here, played by Paul Salas who's obviously younger than her, but she willingly chooses her profession and puts affairs of the heart on hold.

Angeli Bayani is totally credible as the Aeta teacher, consistent in her characterization all throughout. The scene where her husband (Karl Medina) comes home with a newspaper containing the latest results of the board exams for teachers is a real winner, with Angeli's acting sure to touch your emotions.

Gloria Sevilla is also outstanding in this movie. Her conviction and the very dignified way she carries herself all throughout makes her the perfect embodiment of someone who has grown old in her profession and cannot think of doing anything else other than the job she has been doing for more than five decades. Gloria is much, much better here than in "Kusina", where her acting as Judy Ann Santos' caring lola came out as something so tentative.

A big plus for the movie is the remote Aeta community in Pinatubo country where part of the movie was shot on location and stunningly captured by the camera for the big screen. Anna and Angeli are shown walking through miles and miles of lahar land amidst picturesque surroundings of jagged hills that look like they were just painted against the blue sky. You'd suddenly feel the urge of visiting the place which seems to be raw nature in all its untouched breathtaking beauty.

Teleserye Beyond Philippine Shores: DOLCE AMORE in MYANMAR

I guess this blog was successful in its mission. To highlight the upsurge of Pinoy showbiz outside the Philippines, with its young loveteams as spearhead. There is now a wider realization that not only are Pinoy young stars with their Latin-Asian looks, but Pinoy teleseryes in general, are making their mark in many parts of the world. That Pinoy teleserye in particular is one of the top telenovela products in the world, competing with the top heavyweights like the Mexican, Turkish & Indian in the major markets. The top Pinoy loveteams Kathniel, JaDine & LizQuen are no longer just adulated in the Philippines but in many countries beyond Philippine shores.

Prior to this blog, everything was just anecdotal, and as so often happened with anecdotes, they just fluttered for a few moments before being immediately relegated to oblivion. I needed to keep a more organized record of what was then developing gingerly beyond our shores. Everything started when I accidentally noted the response to Pinoy young stars in the pirate sites. Being multi-lingual, I immediately decoded a new reality just developing, a genuine fan base born not out of a propaganda smoke machine or government intervention. I guess the innate inferiority complex of the Pinoy as a result of an  almost endemic economic & political  incompetence never even tickled  anybody to suspect of this possibility. But the reality was there & I just had to transition my blog from a prank to a celebration. We had the ingredients in the first place: an impressive cultural history which unfortunately never found enough confidence to assert itself, & natural multi-racial good looks which win over the disparate racial prejudice of various groups.

I would like to think I helped in focusing everybody's attention and adjust to the new reality. I was the only one writing of what was happening on the teleseryes in Peru & everybody just invaded the Peruvian pages. Clearly, there is now a new confidence. Pinoy showbiz should no longer be the provincial entity relegated to the lower classes. It should strut according to its new status and relevance.

In Myanmar, the Pinoy loveteams are hot. The latest teleserye of the LizQuen loveteam of Enrique Gil & Liza Soberano is showing there after the successful run if their first teleserye Forevermore.

It's final: Angel Locsin is no longer playing 'Darna'

ABS-CBN has released a press statement this evening that Angel Locsin will no longer portray 'Darna' in an upcoming Star Cinema film.

It has been made final and official that the Darna movie remake will no longer involve Angel as the iconic Pinoy superheroine due to her medical condition (for it might worsen the damage on her spine), according to the press statement.

She will instead work on other Kapamilya projects, such as a reunion TV project with John Lloyd Cruz ('La Luna Sangre'), a movie with Coco Martin and another movie with young actor James Reid.

ABS-CBN, Star Cinema, and Angel Locsin have mutually arrived at a final decision that she will no longer pursue the “Darna” movie due to her medical condition.

We gave Angel our full support during and after her treatment in hopes that she would portray the iconic Filipino heroine. Because of Angel’s passion and dedication, she resumed training for the movie after undergoing surgery and therapy for the disc bulge in her spine. Unfortunately, Angel experienced back pain twice during training, prompting her doctor to advise her not to participate in strenuous activities to avoid permanent damage on her spine.

We would have loved to see Angel fly again as Darna and take our hats off to her for the gargantuan efforts she has put in for the project.

We wish her well as she will begin working on other projects, like a special role in “La Luna Sangre” with John Lloyd Cruz, a movie with James Reid, a movie with Coco Martin, and a teleserye.

Now that Angel is officially out of the new Darna movie, who do you think is the worthiest replacement for the role?
