At 11:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm "Ambo" (international codename: Mawar) has intensified further as it continues to move north northwestward.

Tropical Storm "Ambo" is estimated based on satellite and surface data at 200 km East Northeast of Casiguran, Aurora (16.8°N, 124.3°E) with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center is moving North Northwest at 13 kph.

Battleship Movie Bombs in Ticket Sales, One of Biggest Movie Flops in History


Battleship, Universal Picture's big budget science fiction film, is likely to dent the studio's profits after it opened with lower than forecast ticket sales, according to analysts.

The film, which Comcast unit Universal has said cost $275 million to produce, generated $23.4 million (US$) in ticket sales at theaters in the US and Canada during its opening weekend, according to figures compiled by Hollywood.com.

It had been projected by tracking services used by Hollywood studios to have ticket sales of between $35 million and $40 million (US$).

The movie, which stars Liam Neeson and the singer Rihanna, finished the weekend second to Walt Disney's superhero blockbuster The Avengers, which led the box office for the third weekend with $55.1 million in ticket sales.

"It is not quite the epic disaster of John Carter, but this will put a dent in Comcast's quarter," said Matthew Harrigan of Wunderlich Securities, who follows Comcast.

He did not quantify how much he expected the film to lose.

John Carter, which sold $30.2 million (US$) during its opening weekend in March, saddled Disney with a $200 million loss, the company said.

That film cost more than $250 million to produce.

Based on the John Carter performance, Universal will lose $100 million to $200 million, estimates Michael Morris of Davenport & Co., who does not follow Comcast, but follows Disney, News Corp. and Time Warner, which also have studio units.

A Universal spokeswoman would not comment. Comcast officials were not immediately available for comment.

The studio is estimated to have spent more than $100 million to market the film, standard for large budget films.

Battleship has sold more than $220 million in overseas tickets, Universal has said. It is forecast to reach $250 million (US$) in foreign sales.

Movie studios generally receive about half of the revenues from ticket sales in North America and less in foreign markets.

The film needed to generate more than $50 million in weekend ticket sales to break even, said analyst Tony Wible, a managing director at Janney Montgomery Scott who compiles a data base on film performances. He does not follow Comcast.

Last week, Disney's superhero franchise-builder surprised experts by cutting into the expected weekend ticket sales of Dark Shadows, starring Johnny Depp, which took in just $29.7 million (US$), according to Box Office Mojo.

During the coming weekend, Battleship, loosely based on the Hasbro board game, will face the third installment of Will Smith's futuristic comedy Men in Black.

The last one in the series, in 2002, generated $190.4 million (US$) in domestic ticket sales.

ABS-CBN Stos Airing of MMK Rape of a Minor Episode, Replaces by Zaijian Jaranilla's Tour Guide Episode


ABS-CBN's drama anthology show has postponed airing a sensitive episode dealing with the rape of a minor.

Maalaala Mo Kaya will not air the said episode this Saturday, June 2, since the episode will have to be reviewed first by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.

Former Goin’ Bulilit child star Jane Oineza portrays the 15-year-old girl who was recurrently raped by her stepfather. She is joined in this episode by Angel Aquino, who is cast as her mother. Angel's character reportedly assisted her live-in partner while doing the act of rape.

Aside from Jane and Angel, this episode also stars Carlos Morales, RS Francisco, Vangie Labalan, Ana Abad Santos, Archie Alemania, Gerald Madrid, Jacko Benin, Kyline Alcantara, Liz Alindogan, Jesette Prospero, Minco Fabregas, and Elaine Quemuel. It was researched by Mae Rose Balanay, written by Benson Logronio, and directed by Nuel Naval.

Here is the official statement of the Kapamilya Network regarding this issue:

ABS-CBN has postponed the airing of this week's episode of 'Maalala Mo Kaya' pending a review by the MTRCB. We will be airing it once MTRCB gives the green light."

Instead of airing the sensitive episode on June 2, MMK will air an inspiring story of a hardworking young tour guide in Tuguegarao.

Zaijian Jaranilla portrays Andoy, a lonesome boy who grew up without a mother and was raised solely by his father, Jerry (Zoren Legaspi), who is seldom home.

Being left alone most of the time, Andoy decided to sign up as one of the tour guides in the famous Callao Cave without his father’s knowledge. Soon, Andoy became a well-known tour guide in their town.

But instead of being proud of his son’s achievement, Jerry is furious when he learns about the whole thing and even forces Andoy to quit his job.

This MMK episode will also star Wendy Valdez, Lui Manansala, Niña Dolino, Dionne Monsanto, and Kyle Balili. It was written by Joan Habana and directed by Emmanuel Palo.

Maalaala Mo Kaya airs after Wansapanataym on ABS-CBN.

After his rumored hook-up with with James Harden's Trina, Lil Wayne reportedly was denied entry to the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs basketball game on Thursday night.

Wayne tweeted: "Going to go to the Thunder game tonight but was denied by the team to be in their arena. Wow."

However, Dan Mahoney, a representative for the Oklahoma City Thunder, said the rapper is always welcome to watch the game but he needs to buy a ticket just like everyone else. He added that tickets for the game were completely sold out even before Wayne showed up in the arena.

Mahoney added that Lil Wayne's representatives did contact the team requesting tickets but insisted that he sit on the front row, and none of those seats was available.

'Tween Hearts' Bids Farewell with Heartwarming Finale on June 10

After a total of 86 successful episodes aired during its run on GMA every Sunday afternoon, REEL LOVE presents TWEEN HEARTS, bids farewell to its loyal fans and viewers with an emotional but heartwarming finale episode on June 10.
 
Originally slated to air for just 8 episodes, the program, which launched the careers of the network's Tween stars, was awarded several extensions after its successive victory on the ratings game. It remains to be the No. 1 and most preferred youth-oriented drama of the viewers, consistently defeating the four counterpart programs (ABS-CBN's Your Song, Good Vibes, Growing Up and Luv U) of its competition in television ratings.

Desite Derek Ramsay's denial about having a "third party" as reason why he and Angelica Panganiban broke-up, and the silent treatment of John Lloyd Cruz, the rumored third party, in the issue, news about the brewing romance between him and Angelica continues to surface.

In a report by PEP writer Demai G. Sunio-Granali, Lloydie has been seen visiting Angelica in her Quezon City condominium after the Derek-Angelica separation was made public.

According to a source, who frequents the Quezon City condominium of Angelica, he has been seeing the actor in the same area these past few weeks.

On a separate occassion, another source tells PEP.ph that John Lloyd was spotted at the condominium lobby either picking up or dropping off his fellow Kapamilya star.

There have earlier reports abot them being spotted together.

On May 2, a Twitter user named @mommieangelove claimed that he/she has seen John Lloyd and Angelica getting romantic in a public spot within the actress’ neighborhood.

Angelica and Derek were even mentioned in some of the tweets:

“@IAmDerekRamsay we have videos of angelica and lloydie kissing... dont deny if its bcoz of 3rd party... she is not worth to live with...

“@IamAngelicaP we saw u kissing w/ lloydie... how come derek stil protect u for not saying of any 3rd party... i am disappointed, u hurt him!”

In an effort to appease the situation, Derek even replied: “@mommieangelove angel did a movie with [jlc] in Vietnam where they had scenes like that. Work is work. Take care.”
