Miguel Tanfelix, Bianca Umali admire each other

Are Miguel Tanfelix and Bianca Umali taking their friendship and love team to the next level?

Maybe not yet, but the Kapuso teen stars admit they admire each other.

Bianca revealed she has crush on Miguel at the press conference of their new GMA teleserye “Once Upon a Kiss.”

“Si Miguel siguro, isa siya sa mga hinahangaan ko. Maliban sa madalas kaming magkasama, gusto ko din yung humor niya. Hindi ko alam kung aware siya doon.”

Best friends

Miguel and Bianca became close after they worked in several shows.

“Very close. Parang best friends na nga kami ni Miguel. From workshops, to “Paroa,” to “Basang Sisiw,” to
“Nino,” and ngayong “Once Upon a Kiss,” so yung mga projects namin, siya yung kasama ko. So may lalim na yung friendship namin ni Miguel. Very comfortable na kami sa isa’t isa. Wala kaming adjustments sa isa’t isa,” Bianca said.

Miguel said in a separate interview that he likes Bianca’s beauty and kindness.

“Si Bianca kasi matagal na kaming magkakilala. Simula nung time na magkasama kami, hanggang ngayon naa-appreciate ko yung ganda niya, yung pakikisama niya sa akin, so hinahanggan ko siya. Mabait din siya sa parents ko.”

On Barbie Forteza

The 16-year-old Kapuso actor was linked to Barbie Forteza but no relationship blossomed between them.
“Kami ni Barbie, magkaibigan lang po kami. Nagkasama po kasi kami doon sa “Paroa.”

Miguel doesn’t have plans of courting Barbie or anyone yet because he wants to focus on his career.

“Sa akin kasi, tsaka na muna (yung love life). Yung mga blessings na binibigay sa amin ni Lord at ng GMA, sana hindi masayang.”

Since Miguel and Bianca is GMA’s answer to ABS-CBN’s popular love team KathNIel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla), the Kapuso stars admit feeling the pressure of competing with the Kapamilya talents.

Enjoying the journey

“Sa amin as long as magawa naming successful yung show. Hindi namin tinatarget na kompetensyahin yung KathNiel kasi alam namin na malakas at matagal na yung love team nila,” Bianca said.

Miguel, on the other hand, would like to enjoy his journey as a love team with Bianca.

“Nakaka-pressure kasi alam natin na andiyan na sila, kami andito pa lang. hindi namin pipilitin yung sarili namin pero i-enjoy namin yung bawat step ng hagdan papunta doon. Sana makapunta din kami doon.”

“Once Upon a Kiss” starts airing on January 5 after “24 Oras.” It also stars Gabby Eigenmann, Manilyn Reynes, Mylene Dizon, Cris Villanueva, Tessie Tomas, Keempee De Leon, Sabrina Mann, Cai Cortez, Frank Magalona, Maricar de Mesa and Eunice Lagusad.

Jose Manalo hopes to reconcile with family in 2015, but...

While his father’s death makes Christmas less merry for Jose Manalo (it’s his second without his dad, who succumbed to cancer in July 2013), the comedian-host said it’s still family that keeps this year’s special occasion worth looking forward to.

"Dun lang kami sa mother ko sa Novaliches,” the “Eat Bulaga” host-comedian told Yahoo Philippines at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 recently. "Actually hindi kami umaalis. One year nang wala ang father ko so kailangan nandun ako sa bahay.”

He continued, "Always naman memorable ‘yung Christmas kasi ito yung panahon na kasama mo ‘yung mother mo, ‘yung family mo at yung relatives mo na matagal mo nang hindi nakikita."

On reconciling with his own family

The 48-year-old noontime show host added that 2014 is a “steady” year for him.

However, Jose still hopes he will reconcile with his own family despite the legal battle he’s going through.
"Panahon lang ang makakapagsabi. Kasi kung sa’kin naman walang problema. Nagiging problem is may cases pa lahat so hindi tayo pwedeng magsalita about that.”

It will be recalled that Jose’s estranged wife accused the TV host of violating R.A. (Republic Act) 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act and pressed charges against him at the Office of the Prosecutor in San Juan City in March 2012. Jose’s 17-year-old daughter filed the same case December last year.

The domestic mess worsened when one of Jose’s daughters allegedly attempted suicide last March.

The GMA-7 TV host was quick to deny neglecting his seven children and reiterated, through his manager, Malou Choa-Fagar that he is “providing, and will continue to provide his children such support to the best of his ability.”

Masha smashes through indie anonymity

Filipino indie band Masha got their name from top ranked tennis player Maria Sharapova.

Russian-born Sharapova has an arsenal of moves to conquer Grand Slam tournaments around the world while the six-man Masha displays an eclectic range in music that can reach a wide audience beyond the margins of the indie domain.

Masha are vocalist Alvin Aleria, guitarist Paulo Rodriguez, second guitarist Weak Domines, bassist Chris Mercado, drummer Tobs Tobio and Howie Manalaysay on synths and programming.

Vocalist Alvin Aleria counts among his influences such powerful rock frontmen as Queen’s Freddie Mercury, Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell and Brandon Boyd of Incubus.
The other band members have their own individual favorites that range from new-fangled genres like post-rock and post-hardcore to classic rock and glam poster boys Bon Jovi and Guns & Roses.
The band came together in May 2013 from the remnants of an earlier outfit called Finishing Move.

Bassist Chris says, “When we started playing together as Masha, medyo gigil kami. We wanted to do a lot of things. We were heavy on electronic effects but when we began recording our first album, we worked to refine our sound.”
Tobs adds, “In the end, we came out with an album that can be pegged as alternative rock. Yung nga lang, iba-ibang genre ng alt rock. Since this album will be the first time most people will get to hear us, we decided to release a full package of where we’re really coming from.”
Masha’s debut recording entitled "Stalemate Guards for Defiant Hearts" flirts with as many genres as any music fan can handle. There’s reggae (“Your Shame”), 70s hard rock (“Satellites”), an acoustic elegy (“Ang Naghihintay sa Akin”), ballad with a Duane Eddy twang (the title track) and a wah wah pedal scraped punky lament (Hello Cyanide”) that bewails “Fuck*ng give it to me/all the things you took from me.”

‘Rak of Aegis’ actor OJ Mariano joins The CompanY

Singer and theater actor OJ Mariano now has a new job to add to his resume: the new tenor of the vocal group The CompanY.

OJ was selected to be part of the group after a series of auditions and interviews.
His predecessor Jay Marquez, who has been part of the vocal harmony group for 10 years, plans to migrate to Canada with his family.

Solid background

“Nag-call back siya, interview at on-the-spot harmony exercise para ma-test naming siya on that, kasi iyon ang mahirap sa grupo,” Sweet Plantado said at the press conference.

Before OJ joined the company, he has been making a name for himself in the theater world. He has appeared in the local musical “Rak of Aegis,” played a transvestite in “Priscilla,” a basketball player in “Rivalrty” and a male stripper in “The Full Monty.”

He is the second-runner up in the second season of “Star in a Million” and has released several albums since.

‘Ito na’

“I was invited to audition for the part. I’ve been a fan ever since. It’s such a tremendous honor to be a part of the group. Singing in harmony was not much of an adjustment kasi I used to sing in a choir,” OJ said.

The group has nothing but good words for their newest member.

“Maganda talaga ang boses ni OJ. Sobrang kikiligin ka kapag narinig mo siya. So, nag-test na kami kung makaka-harmonize siya sa amin. So, tinginan lang kaming apat, ‘Ito na,’” Sweet said.

Not a one-night stand

Moy Ortiz said that finding a new member for their group was like “looking for a spouse.”

“You’re not looking for one-night stand. You’re looking for someone who will stay for the long run. We’re looking for someone who can sing harmony, someone who can sing solo, someone who has a good diction of English and Filipino, someone whom we have a commonality of basic values—we must be on the same page, of course—the attitude and what the long term plans are of that person,” Moy said.

The CompanY will have a New Year concert at Solaire, where they will be sending off Jay and welcoming OJ to their group. Other members of The CompanY are Annie Quintos and Cecile Bautista.


“It took quite some time and we prayed for it and we claim that OJ is God-sent. He fits the bill with all of the job requirements that we’re looking for in a member,” Moy said.

Yes! Another kapuso star asks for a photo with a kapamilya artist.

Alden Richards, groomed by GMA-7 as one of their most important leading men, posted to his Instagram account @aldenrichards02 a photo of him and ABS-CBN's Box Office King THE John Lloyd Cruz last Friday, December 19.

Alden captioned the photo with, "That #fanboy moment". Richards has been consistently compared to Cruz for having the same looks and brand of acting.

The Final Battles have wrapped up earlier, and the Top 9 from each team (including the 2 stolen artists) for the Knockouts are now complete.
