SHOW DESCRIPTION: Someone to Watch Over Me is a Philippine romantic drama series to be broadcast by GMA Network starring Tom Rodriguez and Lovi Poe. It premiered on September 5, 2016 replacing Juan Happy Love Story on the network's primetime GMA Telebabad block and also worldwide on GMA Pinoy TV.

This inspirational drama tackles the story of a wife's unwavering love for her husband who is suffering from Early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Tom Rodriguez breathes life to the character of TJ Chavez, a playful and outgoing guy who falls madly in love with Joanna. He and his wife will face their biggest setback when he is diagnosed with the rare disorder. Lovi Poe is Joanna Mercado, the compassionate wife of TJ. She will do everything for her sick husband even allowing Irene into their lives and into their home. As Irene receives all of TJ's love and affection, Joanna acts as TJ's nurse who takes care of his needs. Max Collins plays the role of Irene Montenegro, TJ's ex-girlfriend. She tries to stay away from TJ but he keeps seeking her as he no longer recognizes Joanna as his wife. How far can Joanna still go and what else is she willing to do for her ill husband? Will TJ continue fighting for his love for Irene or will he finally remember Joanna as his wife and as someone who stayed with him despite his sickness and her pain? SHOW DESCRIPTION: Alyas Robin Hood (lit.?Alias Robin Hood) is an upcoming Philippine drama-action series broadcast by GMA Network starring Dingdong Dantes, Megan Young and Andrea Torres. It is set to premiere in September 19, 2016 on GMA Telebabad primetime block replacing the Korean drama Descendants of the Sun and also aired worldwide on GMA Pinoy TV.

According to its producers the series was inspired by the English folklore, Robin Hood.

Many netizens accused GMA for ripping off a DC Comics character, Green Arrow, and the hit American action-adventure television series, Arrow after a Facebook user posted a comparison between Arrow and the alleged poster of Alyas Robin Hood which was actually a fan-art from a blogsite. While others simply see a cash-in or riding the popularity of the said show. The controversy continues when the teaser of the series was released. Stephen Amell, who played as Green Arrow on the American television series posted his blushed emoji from the shared video on Facebook. In a response, Suzette Doctolero, Alyas Robin Hood consultant clarified that it is not a rip-off of Arrow and both Alyas Robin Hood and the DC character/TV series are inspired by English folklore Robin Hood.

SHOW DESCRIPTION: Encantadia (2016 TV series) is a Filipino fantasy television series by GMA Network. It is dubbed as the modern requel (retelling-sequel) to the 2005 fantasy series with the same name. The show was first aired on July 18, 2016 in the Philippines and worldwide through GMA Pinoy TV.

The cast including those who will portray the sang'gres or keepers of the four gems were revealed on April 4, 2016. Kylie Padilla played the role of Amihan, Alena by Gabbi Garcia, Danaya by Sanya Lopez and Pirena by Glaiza de Castro.

It is based from the hit sineserye produced by the same network, Kung Aagawin Mo Ang Langit which stars Carla Abellana, Mike Tan and Michelle Madrigal.

Encantadia is a vast and magical continent in an "unnamed", enchanted realm. It comprises three kingdoms: Lireo, Sapiro and Hathoria. These three kingdoms, and the Lirean territory, Adamya, bear the four elemental gems that hold the continent in balance. Lireo, in the east, is the kingdom that cared for the gemstones of air and water, with its territory, Adamya. Sapiro, the northern kingdom, kept the gemstone of earth and had its lands blessed with precious metals and stones, and its soil fertile unlike any other land. Hathoria, the kingdom of the west, held the gemstone of fire and utilized it for the development of weapons and war machinery.

The three kingdoms were able to live in peace, but day came when the Hathors (inhabitants of Hathoria) gave in to their greed and started a war to claim the other gems, that they may gain power and rule over the whole continent. The Hathors first waged war with the Sapiro, in pursuit of the gemstone of earth. The Sapiryan king, King Armeo, before Sapiro's fall, was able to kill the Hathor king and claim the gemstone of fire. Sapiro, after the war, was left in ruins. While the death of the Hathor king, and the loss of the gemstone of fire, weakened the Hathor force and made them retreat. King Armeo gave the gemstone of fire and earth to his older cousin, Raquim, and willed that the gemstones be given to Ynang Reyna of Lireo for safekeeping. The four gems have not been separated since.

Years have passed and the story unfolds in Lireo, where Ynang Reyna, Minea, will choose her successor from her daughters Pirena, Amihan, Alena and Danaya. She and Imaw, an elder from Adamya, can feel imminent danger lurking, and as the gods call her to Devas, she has to leave the kingdom of Lireo in good and capable hands. She put her daughters to the test to see their capabilities and know who is best fit to be the next queen. Minea chooses and crowns Amihan, which to Pirena's dismay, led to her rebellion. The chain of events that transpired made way for the separation of the gemstones. Pirena, after having stolen the gemstone of fire sided with the Hathors and gave them back the power they've lost. Hathor now plans to rise up from hiding and bring Lireo to its demise, with the end in view of ruling over the whole of Encantadia.

24 Oras' formidable and time-tested tandem of Mel Tiangco and Mike Enriquez will welcome veteran journalist Vicky Morales as their newest co-anchor. Joining forces, they become the triumvirate to beat on primetime news.

24 Oras has been a household name since 2004 when GMA News and Public Affairs launched what would be the Kapuso Network's flagship nationwide primetime newscast. The program has since served the need of viewers for non-biased and balanced news, and later even extended broadcast to include weekends.

Monday will also see the rebranding of GMA's regional newscasts into the 24 Oras brand, delivering the news in the distinct 24 Oras style all over the country.

Late-night news source Saksi, led by Arnold Clavio, meanwhile, will have Pia Arcangel on board as its newest co-anchor. Seasoned broadcast journalist Connie Sison, on the other hand, will take over as Raffy Tima's co-anchor in the leading midday newscast Balitanghali, which airs daily on GMA News TV.

Weekend news program 24Oras Weekend will still be headlined by Jiggy Manicad and Pia Arcangel, while Mariz Umali and Jun Veneracion anchor Balitanghali Weekend.

With new anchors on board, expect these fortified news programs to continue providing the public with balanced and unbiased news.

"These changes reflect our goal to inject a new dynamism to our newscasts, while still remaining true to our commitment to Serbisyong Totoo— the hallmark of GMA News and Public Affairs," says Senior Vice President for News and Public Affairs Marissa L. Flores.

24 Oras airs from Monday to Friday at 6:30PM and Saksi at 11:00PM, while 24 Oras Weekend airs at 5:30PM every Saturday and Sunday on GMA 7. Balitanghali, meanwhile, airs weekdays at 11:30AM. Balitanghali Weekend airs at 12nn on GMA News TV.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children Movie Review: Engaging Storybook Adventure For Both Children And Their Parents

WHETHER HE's doing family-oriented children's stories, comic book adaptations or dark mystery flicks, Director Tom Burton is best known for his gothic and outlandish filmic styles, as seen in "Edward Scissorhands", "Beetlejuice", "Batman" (1989 version), "Sleepy Hollow", "Corpse Bride", "Sweeney Todd", "Alice in Wonderland".

His latest movie is "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children", based on the best selling novel for young adults by Ransom Riggs. The story seems like a twisted fairy tale about gifted children who are considered outcasts and living together in one house that will remind you of "X-men" combined with a coming of age story with a teen hero ala-Harry Potter on a journey of self discovery, plus the time travel element thrown in.

The film is told from the point of view of 16-year old Jake Portman (Asa Butterfield of "Hugo" and "Ender's Game"). As a boy, his grandfather, Abe (Terence Stamp, looking so old and wrinkled here compared to the movie we remember him best, "The Collector"), would tell him personal tales about World War II and the special home for kids with supernatural abilities where he lived as a teenager.
One night, Jake comes home and sees his grandpa dying because of a monstrous creature no one else but him can see. He is brought to a psychiatrist to help sort out what is real from what is not in his grandpa's stories that are deemed fantasies.

With his dad, he leaves their home in Florida to travel to an island in Wales hoping to visit Miss Peregrine's sanctuary for odd kids. He somehow finds a way to see the fabled home, but it is now in ruins after having been bombed during the war. But wait, something magical will happen as he travels back to 1943 through the time travel trick called Loop, which gives Miss Peregrine (Eva Green, who has worked before with Tim Burton in "Dark Shadows") the capability to make herself and her wards wake up every morning of September 3, 1943, and they never grow old, ala-"Ground Hog Day".

Jake meets the peculiar children of the title. While it is Jake who moves the story forward, it's Miss Peregrine, who can transform into a bird, and her wards that provide the movie's most amusing moments. Among the children, the one with the biggest role is Emma Bloom (Ella Purnell, the young Angelina Jolie in "Maleficent"), who defies gravity so she has to wear heavy metal shoes for her not to just float away. Then there's also Olive (Lauren McCrostie) whose hands can induce fire, a little girl who is super strong, another girl who can make plants and trees grow, a boy who can spew out bees from his mouth, an invisible boy, a teen boy who can move objects, a girl who has a big mouth with sharp teeth at the back of her head, and others. Each of them get their own heroic moment in the course of the movie.

The film's main villain is Mr. Barron (Samuel L. Jackson), who has sharp jagged teeth and has no eyes. He and his ferocious cohorts called Wights and Hollows eat the eyes of peculiar children to survive. In the climactic finale, the Wights and Hollows fight with skeletons who come from a sunken ship brought to the surface by Emma. One of the most memorable scenes in the movie shows Emma taking Jake under the sea to visit the ship and blowing out the water away so they can have air inside the submerged ship.

The movie is a bit long at more than two hours and some parts could have been hastened to quicken the pacing, but all in all, it's a pretty engrossing storybook adventure that would appeal to both children and their parents. This is a trilogy of books but the first movie doesn't end on a cliffhanger as the plot threads are all resolved. Now that the movie is the number one release last week at the U.S. box office, there is no doubt that a sequel would eventually be in the offing.

Alden Richards, chosen to host 21st Asian Television Awards in Singapore

Pambansang Bae Alden Richards was chosen as one of the hosts of the 21st Asian Television Awards which will take place at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Center on December 2 this year.

Alden will join Malaysian actor/host Adrian Pang, Korean-American tv host Stephanie Carrington and Baki Zainal to host the most celebrated event in Asian Television.

"It is truly an honor to be hosting this year's Asian Television Awards and celebrate the best television content that Asia has to offer," Alden was quoted as saying regarding this development.

Prior to the announcement, the Asian TV Awards website has written an article about Alden hinting that something special is being prepared for the AlDub fans. We quote,

"Let's admit it, we're pretty much fans of the AlDub couple (made up of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza), and how they have managed to capture the imaginations of millions from Team Pinoy worldwide. Here, at Asian Television Awards, we've in fact developed a relationship with AlDub Nation (a.k.a. AlDub fandom) and even ran several articles related to both Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza."

Cleary, Alden's inclusion to the stellar cast of Asian hosts is something that' can be credited to his AlDub team-up with Maine Mendoza.
