Ara Mina files libel, grave coercion charges vs sister Cristine Reyes

Ara Mina has filed libel and grave coercion charges against younger sister Cristine Reyes.

In an emotional interview aired in GMA-7’s “24 Oras” on Wednesday, April 18, a tearful Ara said, “Kilala n’yo naman ako. Alam ninyo naman kung pa’no ko siya protektahan.”

She claims that Cristine has been sending slanderous text messages since Holy Week and to her and her friends.

“Masakit sa’kin ‘tong gagawin ko kasi sikat siya ngayon, ayoko yung masira. Pero hindi ko na kaya yung masyado n’yang hinahamak yung pagkatao ko, parang niyuyurakan niya na,” Ara shares.

Ara Mina

The root cause

According to the “24 Oras” report, the feud started when the sisters agreed to split the payment of their mother’s house between themselves. Cristine was supposed to pay the P 1 M down payment and Ara the balance worth a total of P 2.3 M.

Despite this, Ara relates that Cristine started asking for the P1-M from her. The house was bought under Cristine’s name.

The report added Cristine was threatening to take Ara’s car if she fails to settle her “debt.”

Ara claims that the feud is not about money but about the gross disrespect Cristine showed her.

“Hindi pera ang habol ko po dito. Ang ano ko po yung pag-uugali niya. Hindi ko… akalain na mismong kapatid ko magsasabi ng ganon.”

Viva Entertainment, Cristine’s management company, has instructed its talent to desist from granting interviews about the issue for now.

Is Nora qualified as National Artist?

Nora Aunor has reached her prime, leaving everyone in awe of her sheer talent and charisma. Despite her diminutive frame, the Superstar rose and became bigger than the industry itself—at one time taking one acting recognition after another for her movies and becoming a the top-rating TV personality with her weekly variety show. She also dominated the music recording during the early years of her career, accomplishing the "platinum" status by today's parlance.

She even became a cultural icon, one who aptly represents the victory of the masses in her own celebrity; closely identifying with the everyday man and woman. She rose from obscurity to the biggest star in the country without the help of a studio or network to build her up.

Who could forget her portrayal in CNN's top Asian film of all time, "Himala," which earned her awards both in local and international stages? Above all, this film placed her in an enviable position of being on the proverbial cultural timeline of the Philippines in terms of milestones and achievements. Who could forget that line, "Walang himala! Ang himala ay nasa puso ng tao!"?

Nora Aunor

Equally unforgettable are other notable portrayals in "Flor Contemplacion Story", where her utterance of "I did not kill anyone" reverberated from the voice of the OFW sentenced to die for a murder she claimed she didn't commit, and "My brother is not a pig!" from "Minsa'y Isang Gamu-gamo," a film protesting US military presence in the Philippines.

You may notice that while the lines contain simple words and phrases, it's Nora's emphatic, powerful delivery that sets them apart and are now etched in stone.

Her stellar career and contributions to the craft made the Cultural Center of the Philippines bestow on Nora the Centennial Honor for the Arts in 1999. This is apart from her victories in film festivals, industry and critics awards here and abroad.

But, as her stardom glared across showbiz, one controversy after another took its toll on her. Real-life relationships, professional issues and financial problems led to several personal crises that forced Nora to at one time leave the limelight and even the country to deal with them.

Even with this, however, Nora is one artist who never leaves one's memory. Her incredible craft and performances as an actress will always remain on every Filipino mind.

Her recent return from her "exile" in the U.S., proves how Nora's legacy is above anything else. Despite her personal problems, she continues to deliver and continue that legacy that inspires followers and even colleagues in the industry.

This is why a House Resolution is being deliberated on naming her as a National Artist, a title which has a lot of other artists waiting, among them the very qualified Dolphy. But even so, Nora's legend is by far inarguable.

Daniel speaks about Kathryn, his ‘Tita BB,’ and competition on set

Daniel Padilla may be vocal in expressing his interest on his “Princess and I” leading lady Kathryn Bernardo, but the young actor admitted that he is not yet courting Kathryn.

“Sa ngayon, hindi pa po. Sa ngayon, medyo nakakailang pa kasi meron tayong kasamang iba, na kapag nangligaw ka, hindi ka lang magseselos. Maiilang pa yung iba sa iyo,” Daniel said at the press conference of “Princess and I” at the ABS-CBN compound Wednesday, April 12.

Daniel was referring to Kathryn’s two other leading men, Enrique Gil and Khalil Ramos.

‘Courting is a step-by-step process’

Daniel Padilla during ABS-CBN's Bida Kapamilya Caravan held at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo Rizalon 14 April 2012.

Even after their series ends, Daniel said that he won’t court Kathryn right away.

“Hindi naman po dire-diretso kaagad pero step-by-step natin iyang titignan,” he said.

So how would be describe his relationship with Kathryn at this stage?

“Parang best friends talaga kami,” Daniel admitted, smiling.

“Kasi mahirap po kapag naging biglaan na lang naging kayo, tapos kapag nagkaproblema kayo, tapos kaagad,” he said.

Flattered he’s compared to his Uncle Robin

When the press pointed out that Daniel acts and speaks like his uncle, Robin Padilla, the young actor was good-natured about it.

“Hindi naman po siguro. Alam ko po pareho po ang apelyido namin, ganito po kaming mga Padilla. Siguro habang tumatanda, ganoon po talaga, eh. Siguro nasa pamilya na po iyon. Kahit po yung mga kapatid ko, ganito rin magsalita,” he said.

Daniel also doesn’t mind being likened to his uncle and even feels flattered about it.

“Wala naman pong disadvantage doon. Robin Padilla is Robin Padilla. Kapag sinabihan kang para kang si Robin, matutuwa ka pa,” he said.

Thoughts on his ‘Tita’ BB Gandanghari

And what does Daniel think of BB Gandanghari, the sibling of his Uncle Robin?

“Sa totoo lang po, wala po akong galit. Kasi pamilya po siya. Basta masaya po siya at walang natatapakang iba,” Daniel said about BB, whom he calls Tita BB.

Daniel plays Gino in “Princess and I” and denied being in competition with his co-stars Enrique and Khalil.

“Ayaw ko po kasi na parang pinag-aaway po kami…. Pare-pareho naman po kaming nagtatrabaho na pinapakilig ang mga tao, pinapasaya sila,” Daniel said.

Pinoys Increasingly Rely on Social Media for News

Pinoys Increasingly Rely on Social Media for News

The emergence of the Philippines as one of the world's social media capitals —with one out of every three Filipinos on Facebook— has led to the widespread acceptance of social media as a key source of news and current information.

Earlier this year, social media came to the fore as the main channels of information concerning the magnitude 6.7 earthquake that hit Negros Island. And late last year, social media also proved crucial in reporting on, and finding help for, the victims of Typhoon Sendong in Mindanao.

“[Social media] are a direct connection to web users and TV viewers, and are an efficient avenue for gathering and delivering news. They are also platforms for receiving feedback and ideas about our programming,” says Howie Severino, Vice President for Multimedia Journalism of GMA Network.

The immediacy and impact of social media are such that they have been recognized by the Pulitzer Prize alongside traditional journalism stalwarts.

I think you’ll continue to see social media in the breaking news category, but it will show up in others as well,” said Pulitzer Prize administrator Sig Gissler of the growing number of prize-winning stories from social media.

Filipinos' own widespread adoption of social media for news consumption is reflected in the growing following accorded to the news accounts of the country's top broadcast networks.

GMA News, in particular, is the most-followed individual news account on Twitter and Facebook among local news broadcasters.

On social networking site Facebook, as of April 17, GMA News’ fan page had a total of 403,999 likes, while ABS-CBNNews.com had 223,510 and TV5’s JournalisMo posted 205,304.

Meanwhile, GMA News’ Twitter account, @GMANews, hit 726,855 followers as of April 17, while ABS-CBN News had 407,103. Meanwhile, ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC)’s Twitter account had a total following of 416,858 as of that time.

It is estimated that about 30% of Filipinos are active online, and according to a 2010 study by global digital marketing intelligence agency comScore, the Philippines scored the highest penetration of social media in the Asia-Pacific region, with more than 90 percent of its entire web population visiting a social networking site in February 2010.

Ara Mina Brings Feud with Sister Cristine Reyes to Court

Ara Mina Brings Feud with Sister Cristine Reyes to Court

www.showbiznest.com
"Punung-puno na ako.

Hanggang makakapagpasensiya, magpapasensiya ako. Pero hindi ko na kaya!

Said the very emotional Ara Mina on Wednesday afternoon, April 18, right after she filed a libel and grave coercion case against her half-sister Cristine Reyes at the Quezon City fiscal’s office.

According to ABS-CBNNews.com, Ara finally decided to file a case after she learned from their relatives that Cristine continously badmouthing her related to the alleged dispute over the remaining balance for a house they bought for their mother.

According to report, Cristine wanted Ara's SUV as payment for the remaining balance for the said Quezon City townhouse.

Aside from that, Ara said Cristine keeps on attacking her verbally since Holy Week. To prove her claim, Ara showed the press Cristine's malicious text message which contained “Kung ayaw niyo manggulo ako sa buhay niyo, bayaran utang niyo sa akin. Kung wala kayo pangbayad, ibigay niyo hinhingi ko [referring to Ara's SUV]. ”

Cristine continued by texting "I'm sure ibebenta mo ‘yang laspag mong katawan na pinagsawaan na ng lahat. Daig pa aso sa sobrang kati.”

However, Ara clarified that she filed charges not to claim money from Cristine but only to “teach her a lesson” for her attitude.

"Para maturuan siya ng leksiyon, kasi hindi na tama yung ginagawa niya.

"Mahirap sa ’kin ‘tong gagawin ko dahil sikat siya ngayon, ayoko siyang masira. Pero masyado niya nang hinahamak yung pagkatao ko, niyuyurakan na niya." Ara said.

TV Vampire Classic “Dark Shadows” Now a Big Screen Comedy

TV Vampire Classic “Dark Shadows” Now a Big Screen Comedy

From visionary director Tim Burton comes the big-screen adaptation of the TV vampire classic “Dark Shadows” featuring an all-star cast, led by perennial collaborator Johnny Depp.

The film also stars Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jonny Lee Miller, Jackie Earle Haley, Chloe Grace Moretz, Victoria Winters and Gully McGrath.

“Dark Shadows” begins in the year 1752, when Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Depp) has the world at his feet - or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

The film marks Depp’s eighth collaboration with visionary filmmaker Tim Burton, who most recently reimagined Lewis Caroll’s “Alice in Wonderland,” also starring the actor. Burton remembers the original “Dark Shadows” TV series as a childhood obsession and constant distraction from his homework. “I just loved the tone of it,” the director recalls. “It was about the music and languid pace and how seriously the actors took it. It was basically a soap opera, but with a supernatural undercurrent to it, which made it very different. It was like a weird kind of nightmare in the mid-afternoon. There was nothing quite like it.

Their goal from the beginning was to honor the Dan Curtis-created series while making an original film with a contemporary sensibility. Legendary producer Richard D.Zanuck, who marks his sixth collaboration with Burton, was thrilled with the filmmaker’s take on the world of “Dark Shadows.” “The tone encapsulates a lot of humor, a lot of compassion, and although there’s blood, it’s hardly a typical vampire movie,” Zanuck says. “There are eccentric characters, and it’s a little off-center, a little over the top, and very much Tim Burton. You probably hear this a lot, and it always sounds disingenuous to say, but this movie has something for everyone. It’s got very passionate, operatic moments, heartbreaking tragedy, romance, terror and this unexpected humor.”

When the script came in, you could see what an incredibly fun ride it was going to be,” adds Oscar-winning producer Graham King. “But then you add the layer of Tim Burton’s magical directing and this incredible cast. Tim is also being very respectful of the series because we’re all cognizant that there are a lot of `Dark Shadows’ fans out there. He’s making a film that is as unique as the series was, but it’s obviously made for today’s audiences. It’s big in scope, and really, really funny.”

David Kennedy, who produces along with Zanuck, King, Depp and Christi Dembrowski, was the producing partner of television icon Dan Curtis, who created “Dark Shadows” and introduced television audiences for the first time to a sexy, sympathetic vampire protagonist. “There was never a vampire on television until Barnabas Collins,” Kennedy relates. “And one of the things that makes Barnabas so different is that he doesn’t like being a vampire, but he knows he’s condemned to be one forever, so he’s an enormously sympathetic character. And what’s thrilling about the movie is that it’s absolutely loyal to the key characters, but it’s an original take on the series.

Opening across the Philippines on May 10, “Dark Shadows” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
