Carla: About time I work with Richard

Now that she just renewed her contract with the Kapuso network, Carla Abellana feels it’s only fitting for her to work with Richard Gutierrez in her next project.

“It’s about time. Kumbaga, nung una kong pasok ng showbiz, inaabangan ko yan e, na makapareha ko siya. Kasi parang hindi pwedeng hindi,” she told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! and members of the press at the set of “Legacy” in Timberland Heights, San Mateo, Rizal last Friday, March 23.

The 25-year-old just signed a three-year exclusive contract with GMA-7 earlier this month. She will star with Richard and Sarah Lahbati in the upcoming primetime drama “Makapiling Kang Muli.” Carla’s last project with the network was the afternoon soap opera “Kung Agawin Mo ang Langit” with Mike Tan and Michelle Madrigal.

“(Richard) is really one of the ultimate leading men in the industry tapos lumagpas yung first three years ko na hindi ko man lang siya nakatrabaho,” Carla shared. “So parang buena mano sa akin. Kaka-renew ko lang, Richard Gutierrez na soap opera.”

Carla Abellana

‘Bigger and better’

Before she renewed her contract, Carla was reportedly considering her options outside GMA-7. So the actress is thankful because the Kapuso network understood why she had to take her time.

“Naging very patient naman ang GMA sa amin because I know it took a while also na pinag-isipan namin ng mabuti. So thankful ako na naging patient sila sa akin.”

When it comes to her compensation under the new contract, Carla quipped, “Hindi naman sobrang laki pero compared to the first contract, it’s bigger and better.”

On marriage

Carla was at the set of “Legacy” to visit boyfriend Geoff Eigenmann, who was celebrating his 27th birthday that day.

The two have been in a relationship for more than a year. Are they already talking about settling down?

“Hindi pa. Mas napag-uusapan ng ibang tao kaysa yung kaming dalawa lang. Pero yung just the two of us, hindi talaga,” she said. “Madali namang mag-imagine. Pero ayaw mo namang isipin masyado kasi baka ma-udlot. Imbes na mag-imagine ka, mag-concentrate ka sa reality.”

Carla revealed that she thought she’ll be married by the time she’s 27 or 28. However, with the way things are going for hers and Geoff’s career, Carla feels “mauurong yun.”

“It’s too soon now that I’m nearing that age. Parang ang lapit na pala,” she said.

Eugene's got the Pacman feeling

Actress Eugene Domingo felt like boxing champ Manny Pacquiao when she won the Favorite Actress award at the recently concluded 6th Asian Film Awards.

Eugene has been raking in awards and nominations for her lead role in the indie film “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank.” She bagged the Best Actress award in a Musical or Comedy in the 9th Enrpess Golden Screen Awards held on Saturday, March 24.

Philippine rep

“Kung meron na pagkakataon that I felt proud being a Filipino, ito yung pagkakataon na andun ako sa entablado bilang representative ng Pilipinas, Kumabaga sa boxing, Manny Pacquiao ang feeling ko noon eh. Dala-dala mo ang Pilipinas,” Eugene said in an interview at the Golden Screen Awards.

Eugene Domingo

She shares the award with Filipinos who supported and voted for her in the poll.

“Nagsanib pwersa ang mga Pilipino dita sa buong mundo para manalo ako. So, yung panalo ko is panalo nating lahat,” she added.

Eugene hopes recognitions for Fil collaborations with other countries.

“It ope collaborations with other countries.

“It opened a door for the Filipinos, Chinese and other Asian countries na panahon na para mag-collaborate, lumabas tayo at sumunod sa development ng filmmaking,” Eugene said.

Eugene made everyone laugh with her natural, funny antics as she accepted her award from Chinese superstar Andy Lau onstage. Although she playfully told Andy she wanted to do a movie with him, Eugene told the local press she is really not expecting it. Knowing that Andy was game on stage is enough to make her happy.

“Huwag tayong masyadong umasa doon. Ako naman eh okay lang na Andy Lau was very, very playful. Game siya sa paglalaro sa stage. He's very charming," she observed.

Still nervous

Winning awards and getting nominations are no longer new to Eugene, but she still feels nervous whenever she gets one. She said that she was not really expecting to win at Asian Film Awards because of other great actresses she was competing with.

“Of course (I still get surprised), sa totoo lang give up na ako eh. Kase ang gagaling talaga ng mga artista eh. Nakalimutan ko na meron pa palang People’s Choice. So, hindi ko talaga inasahan iyon. Sa totoo lang, handa na akong umuwing empty-handed,” she revealed.

Upon accepting the award, Eugene texted showbiz friends Kris Aquino, John Lapus, Vice Ganda and Angelica Panganiban, who she asked help from in spreading the word about the voting poll.

“As soon as natanggap ko yung award na People’s Choice, tinext ko lahat ng artistang hiningan ko ng tulong na ‘Sabihan nyo naman yung mga followers ninyo sa Twitter na bumoto.’ Sabihin ninyo sa mga kulto ninyo nanalo ako,” she said in jest.

On a serious note, Eugene said she is tied to her profession and will accept whatever God plans for her love life.

“Pwede na sigurong sabihin at this point, hindi na rin naman na ako kabataan, parang na-accept ko na na ang asawa ko ay ang trabaho ko. So, kung meron mang supresa, nasa Panginoon na iyon,” she revealed.

“Kung bibigyan pa niya ako ng isang love of my life sa katauhan ng isang lalaking katulad ni Andy Lau. Bahala na ang Panginoon doon,” Eugene added jokingly.

Heart talks about marriage

At 27, Heart Evangelista said she has learned to put her foot down and become more independent, just like her character in the primetime drama “Legacy.”

“I have to learn how to say no, I have to learn how to put my foot down. Eventually, pag wala na yung mga taong tumutulong sa akin, I have to learn how to survive on my own,” the Kapuso actress said.

Does this mean she’s ready to settle down any time soon?

“I don’t want to get married any time soon,” Heart told members of the press on the set of the Kapuso primetime show in San Mateo, Rizal last Friday, March 23.

What if her boyfriend of over a year, model-actor Daniel Matsunaga, already wants to tie the knot?

Heart Evangelista

“Hindi pwede. Hindi pa talaga,” she said. “Hindi pa ako finished.”

Asked what she still wants to accomplish before settling down, Heart said: “Hindi ko ma-explain e. But in a relationship, it has to get to a point where there’s nothing to argue about. Everybody argues but basic things, you don’t have to argue about.”

Heart added she’ll know when she’s ready to settle down. “And at this point, I don’t know yet,” she said.

‘No assurances’

Daniel has been in Brazil for a month now due to medical reasons — not because he’s receiving death threats, according to Heart.

“Papa-opera siya, meron siyang parang… hindi siya makahinga nang maayos kaya may tatanggalin (sa ilong niya),” she said. “Matagal ng may ganun siya.” Heart added Daniel will return to the country this month and that they constantly communicate via internet messaging and emails. “Kaya importante ang Wi-Fi (sa amin),” she quipped.

Despite the distance, Heart said their relationship is still “normal.”

“Kasi wala naman kaming bawalan e. Pag andito siya, I do my thing. So hindi naman masyadong nag-change (ang relationship),” she said.

Does it affect her when she hears rumors or talks that their relationship is on the rocks?

“Wala, ganun talaga e. Hindi rin naman perfect ang isang relationship, di ba? Hindi ko talaga alam kung mage-end ba ito o magla-last ba ito. So hindi ako masyadong ano sa (tsismis na) on the rocks kasi kung on the rocks kami sa totoong buhay, then okay. Pero kung hindi, mas okay din,” she explained.

The actress added that she’s currently in a situation wherein she has few expectations.

“Hindi rin naman kasi biro na maghanap ng life-time partner so there are really no assurances in life,” she said. “Kung mag-work, e di finally. Kung hindi, then I wish you all the best.”

Passionate again

Daniel’s temporary absence allowed Heart to bond with “Legacy” co-stars Lovi Poe and Alessandra de Rossi who she says are now her close friends.

Of course, she’s also happy with her show’s good performance in the ratings game.

“Before the show, medyo gulo-gulo yung isip ko, ganyan. Pero ngayon, ayoko na talagang mag-end (yung show),” she said.

Nakakatuwa.”

“Legacy” airs weeknights after “Biritera” on GMA-7.

Gerald feels high over Sarah's friendship

Around 300 fans witnessed the closeness of their idols Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson during the Ashrald Ultimate Fans' Day sponsored by Jollibee last March 25 at 55 Events Place in Quezon City.

Unfortunately for them, the said closeness is not a sign nor confirmation that their idols are in a romantic relationship. It is just who they have become since they became friends.

“We're very comfortable with each other and mas close kami ngayon. We're just happy na ganun kami at sana natuwa rin ang mga fans kahit papaano. In a personal level masaya kami," explained Gerald.

As for their relationship, Gerald doesn't know what the future holds for him and Sarah but he admits the rising level of their friendship excites him.

Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson

"Like what I've said at the end of the day kung friendship lang makukuha ko sa kanya panalo pa rin ako," Gerald expressed.

He also attributed their "deeper friendship" to more frequent communication. Now that “Budoy” has ended and he has yet to start a new TV project, Gerald has more time for Sarah.

"Like what I've said, she is my inspiration. For me, I enjoy kung anong inspiration binibigay sa akin ni Sarah. At dahan dahan lang. Enjoy ko lang yung moment. Siguro kaming dalawa, we enjoy the moment kung anong meron kaming dalawa. We don't pressure each other," shared Gerald.

For real

Their continued closeness dispels rumors and intrigues that their "friendship" was a put-on to promote their past two movies. Sarah and Gerald have remained close even if the former now has a new movie with John Lloyd Cruz.

"Masaya po ako kung anong meron sa friendship namin. Totoo po yun na naging mas close po kami. Talagang iingatan ko po yung closeness na meron kami ngayon," said Sarah.

She added that she values her friendship with Gerald and has pledged that she will always be there for him. Their onscreen chemistry and popularity as a love team even brought their working relationship to a new level as product endorsers.

"Sobrang suwerte ko na nakasama ko siya sa ganitong project," Gerald said.

Titanic Deirector James Cameron Dives Deepest Part of Ocean (Video)

James Cameron, the famous "Titanic" director, traveled some seven miles down into the ocean, as many miles below the Earth's surface as miles modern jetliners fly above the surface. He engineered a new deep sea submersible for the journey.

Director James Cameron is back on dry land after travelling to the deepest point known on Earth, some seven miles below the surface of the ocean.

He's the first person to make the dive alone, and he spent about three hours there collecting research samples and taking pictures — in a specially designed submersible that he envisioned himself. It was revolutionary in many ways, not the least of which is that it moves up and down, generally, rather than forward and backward.

Even with all of the innovations, though, it took nearly two hours to reach bottom.

Jon Copley, a marine biologist at Southampton University in the U.K. who has done deep dives of more than a mile, said these sorts of journeys are really a lot like visiting another world.

"The landscape down there looks so alien to us because it's shaped by forces that are very different to the weather that shapes the landscape we're familiar with above the waves," Copley said.

The entire landscape is pitch black, except for what can be illuminated by the lights on the dive vehicle.

Cameron, upon emerging, described it as the "most isolated, remote place on the planet."

Copley said the sort of celebrity deep sea drive that Cameron pulled off draws attention to all the work that scientists still need to do under the water of the ocean.

"More than half our world is covered by water more than two miles deep," Copley said. "We don't even have an accurate map of that half of our own planet. What goes on down there is very important to us and affected by us."

Copley also hailed the construction of the submersible Cameron used as finally giving the world's scientists another vehicle that can travel to the deepest part of the Earth. That's in addition to new robots that can also make the journey and are just coming online.

The two types of vehicles, human-carrying and remote operated, do different things, Copley said. The best computer we have, he pointed out, is the human brain and the best camera, is the human eye. So nothing can beat being able to supplement robot research with human observation.

"We're starting to build a better toolkit to reach into the ocean's depth," Copley said. "There's space for both. In many cases we need both in the exploration of the ocean."

Reporter's Notebook Investigates Child Abandonment, Military 'Abuses' Tonight, March 27

In the middle of the night, a security camera captures a disheartening scene: a young woman leaves her child by the doorstep of someone else's home. After some inquiry, authorities tracked down her whereabouts. When asked why she abandoned her child, she said that she did not have the means to raise the child properly adding that if she only had a choice, she would have done otherwise.

This Tuesday, GMA's award-winning documentary program Reporter's Notebook will discuss the problem of child abandonment and what really drives many "unprepared" moms to desert their children. Are poverty and emotional inadequacy the culprits, or are all these just an excuse to evade the responsibility of being a mom?

The episode will also investigate cases of abuse against women and civilians involving members of the military. One case involves a 17-year old girl who is now being treated for trauma after being raped apparently by a soldier who had been wooing her. The suspect is now being held in custody together with two suspected accomplices -- all uniformed personnel. Another case involves a man in Albay who alleges that he was tortured by military men who had mistaken him for a member of the New People's Army (NPA). Until now, no one from among the military has been considered a suspect and the victim has not been given justice.

Last January, an international group released a report stating that the Philippine government has done very little in getting into the bottom of these so-called "military abuses." The report also revealed that most of the suspects in these cases have not been tried yet. What does the government - or the military - have to say about these allegations?

Find out the answers on Reporter's Notebook hosted by broadcast journalists Jiggy Manicad and Maki Pulido, airing this Tuesday, March 27, 11:30pm on GMA-7.

A New and Different Amy Austria Stars in "Tanikala: Ang Ikaapat na Yugto" this Holy Week

On Maundy Thursday, catch veteran actress Amy Austria-Ventura in one of her rare appearances on TV in the Holy Week Special Tanikala: Ang Ikaapat ng Yugto. In her notable performance and unique role as Lupe in the episode entitled "Unos", Amy plays the life of a loving mother who performs witchcraft to support her family.

She shares, “I play the role of Lupe here, a loving mother to her children. But since her husband is unable to support the family, she also does witchcraft which she learned from her ancestors so she could earn money...but she is a good person. For the family, for her children…she’ll do anything whatever it takes.”

When asked if she was challenged with the role, the actress admitted that she felt a little uncomfortable with some of the scenes, despite her being a distinguished and experienced actress. The reason – Amy now “chooses” her roles with conviction. And this happened after she experienced a life-changing encounter.

As much as possible, I don’t like to do horror films. I would, maybe, before when I wasn’t a Christian yet. But eversince I got to know the Lord, I don’t accept those kinds of roles anymore. I even have to do chants and rituals here because of my role as babaylan which makes it really uncomfortable for me,” explains Amy.

She adds, “I accepted this project because this is my commitment to the Lord, I believe this is my chance to share the gospel to the people. Plus the fact that they will really learn a lot from the story of Lupe.”

To prepare for the heavy scenes, Amy’s preparation requires more than just the physical and the technical aspects. She never forgets the most important preparation – Prayer. “I always pray for God’s protection and guidance. I even asked my friends to cover me with prayers because of the chantings and rituals that I had to do for the story.”

Amy also shares how she relates with her character, Lupe. As a mother, she knows how it is to love and to love unselfishly, especially when it comes to her son. According to her, her love grew even more when she met the one who really loves her unconditionally. In addition, she discovered the true purpose of her life and of her special gift in acting.

Before, I act just for the sake of acting as my job. I have to act because I am the breadwinner of our family. When I became a Christian, as much as possible, I do it for the glory of God.”

"Unos" also stars actors Alden Richards and Mike Lloren. Watch "Unos" episode of Tanikala: Ang Ikaapat ng Yugto on April 5 (Maundy Thursday) 5:00 p.m. on GMA 7. Written by Gin Sardea and directed by John Tan.
