Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis are Star-Crossed Lovers in “Jupiter Ascending”

Channing Tatum (“22 Jump Street”) and Mila Kunis (“Oz, the Great and Powerful”) star in Warner Bros. Pictures’ original science fiction action adventure, “Jupiter Ascending.”

Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along - her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

“It’s so smart and amazing and so much fun,” says Mila Kunis. “There’s a lot of action, and a beautiful love story, and even though it takes places in the most fantastical settings, everything feels so tangible and real. Also, there’s a fair amount of sharp humor, which I love.”

“Lana and Andy Wachowski create from a molecular level to the expanse of the universe,” says Channing Tatum, who plays Caine. Caine doesn’t know the reason for his mission, which is immediately complicated by a gang of bounty hunters determined to capture Jupiter themselves, at any cost. “He is trying to figure out why all of this is happening, and has to make a decision whether to protect her or give her up,” Tatum says.

Almost fully human but for a splice of wolf DNA that both enhances his skills and limits his prospects for a normal life, Caine becomes Jupiter’s protector as he comes to understand who she really is and what’s at stake if the people who want her neutralized are successful.

Recounting the moment when Caine and Jupiter meet, Kunis says, “Jupiter is in a very precarious situation and when Caine drops out of the sky and takes her up in his arms it’s very much a chemical attraction between the two of them, regardless of everything else that’s going on. It’s natural and instantaneous.”

The trust and connection that develops between Caine and Jupiter and deepens throughout the ensuing action could be described as a simple love story on a large scale. These are two individuals who never expected to find love at all, and certainly not under these extreme circumstances. Says Tatum, “Caine probably just wrote himself off long ago as never being able to find love or even being deserving of it, even though it’s all he’s ever wanted. And Jupiter feels that she’s made every possible bad decision in the book when it comes to men so maybe it’s not worth trying again.”

Like many true heroines, Jupiter’s courage is forged from harsh and humble beginnings. Her father, an astrophysicist, was killed in Saint Petersburg in a senseless crime before her birth, and Jupiter entered the world at sea, between nations, as her mother and sister fled to America for a better life. But that life was far from fairytale. Cleaning houses by day and sharing cramped quarters with her extended family at night, Jupiter’s reality is back-breaking and numbingly monotonous.

But beneath her casual cynicism Jupiter has a tender heart and, like her father, a genuine curiosity about the universe and her place in it. She secretly wishes - though never really expects - that she could see the world as he did, as a place of beauty, wonder and possibility.

Unlucky, too, in love, Jupiter’s romantic history is marred by heartbreak and disappointment. So much so that she believes she has a broken compass, causing her to make one bad choice after another. But is her compass broken or it just leading her to Caine? In Caine, she finds someone she is forced to trust and, in return, he is forced to trust her, a situation that does not come easily to either of them, and when she falls in love with him it’s the biggest leap of faith she has ever made.

The experience is similar for him. In Caine’s society, human genes are routinely engineered and often combined with genes from the animal kingdom for their advantageous traits and abilities: heightened senses such as sight, scent or hearing, and agility or strength. Caine, with his infusion of wolf DNA, was bred to be a Legionnaire or “skyjacker,” a fearless soldier with incomparable hunting, tracking and fighting skills. Unfortunately, the person who designed Caine miscalculated, adding to these attributes a streak of rebellion and unpredictability. This eventually manifested into such an intense hatred and distrust toward anyone of royal blood that it takes every ounce of control for Caine not to immediately go for their throats. Consequently, he has learned to keep to himself.

When Caine is dispatched to find and deliver Jupiter before she is swept up by one of his scheming siblings, the former Legionnaire doesn’t know who she is or why she merits such attention. Later, when he learns the truth, he is perplexed. Jupiter is a royal, yet she doesn’t arouse in him the aversion he harbors toward her class; instead, she brings out the protective side of his lupine nature, the instinct toward loyalty and connection.

“Caine has an issue with royals, and he’s been told all his life that it’s his genetic disposition,” Tatum acknowledges. “But then Jupiter is an anomaly. He’s simultaneously drawn to her and thrown by her because he can’t understand why he feels this way. I think Caine senses an innate goodness in her, and it’s a quality he hasn’t had much experience with so Jupiter is a bit of an interesting enigma.”

Set for release across the Philippines on February 05 in IMAX 3D and 2D cinemas, “Jupiter Ascending” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Vina Morales and Denise Laurel Share How Love Made Them Stronger

Vina Morales and Denise Laurel both admit that they can relate to their characters when it comes to love in ABS-CBN’s newest afternoon drama series “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita.”

“I can really relate to Cecilia’s life because we both have to be strong as single moms for our children. Like her, I have become tougher as a person and as a mother because of my experiences in love,” said Vina about her role in one of the newest Kapamilya Gold teleseryes.

According to Denise, she can see herself in the personality of her character Toni when it comes to love. “For me, Toni and I share similarities when we fall in love because we are both ready to sacrifice and do everything to let our loved ones know how we feel for them,” she said.

Meanwhile, TV viewers will surely be more thrilled in the succeeding episodes of “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita” now that teen stars Jane Oineza, Jerome Ponce, Joshua Garcia, and Loisa Andalio already appeared in the series as Corinne, Ryan, Joel, and Bea, respectively.

ABS-CBN Named Best TV Station at 1st Mapúa Gawad Kamalayan Awards 2014

ABS-CBN Corporation was hailed as the Best TV Station at the first Gawad Kamalayan Awards of MapÃºa Institute of Technology held on Thursday (January 29) at the MapÃºa campus in Intramuros, Manila.

“TV Patrol” won as the Best News Program, “Rated K” as Best Magazine Show, “Umagang Kay Ganda” as Best Feature and Lifestyle Show, “ASAP” as Best Variety Program, “Maalaala Mo Kaya” as Best Drama Program, and ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation as Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project.

Meanwhile, Kapamilya news anchors and hosts were also honored by MapÃºans namely, Ted Failon as the Best News Program Anchor, Korina Sanchez as Best Magazine Show Host, Anthony Taberna as Best Feature and Lifestyle Show Host, and Robi Domingo as Best Tourism Host for “Sunday’s Best: Lakwatsero Hokkaido.”

The Gawad Kamalayan Awards is the first TV awards program launched by MapÃºa’s School of Languages, Humanities, and Social Sciences during the university’s 90th Founding Anniversary celebration. It was named after the Filipino word, “kamalayan,” which means awareness. It aims to recognize the TV programs and personalities who promote consciousness among the Filipino TV viewers. The winners were voted by over 13,000 students, faculty members, and staff of MapÃºa.

Pinoy Actor Allen Evangelista Leads Cast of Michael Bay-Produced Movie “Project Almanac”

In the Michael Bay-produced thriller “Project Almanac,” a brilliant high school student and his friends uncover blueprints for a mysterious device with limitless potential, inadvertently putting lives in danger. The youthcul cast is led by Filipino-American actor Allen Evangelista who previously starred with Shailene Woodley in the popular TV series “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”
Joining him in the Paramount Pictures release are Jonny Weston, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Sam Lerner and Ginny Gardner. Get to know them more with their past credits below.

Allen Evangelista who plays Adam in “Project Almanac” is best known for his role as Henry Miller on ABC Family’s “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and his additional television credits also include “Alias”, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”, “Ghost Whisperer” and “Zoey 101”.

Allen was born and raised in Los Angeles, but his father and mother hail from Manila and Pampanga, respectively. He loves to participate in the Hollywood Knights basketball team, to help raise funds for high schools in his spare time. In addition, Allen and his wife are involved with MS Society. Allen also loves to play basketball, play guitar, video games and watch sports. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife Christina Burhoe, their 3-year-old son Hudson, and 4-year-old English Bulldog.

Jonny Weston (David) is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought after leading young men as he received rave reviews for his work in indie feature “Kelly & Cal” opposite Juliette Lewis, which premiered at SXSW in 2014. Last January 2015, Jonny starred in Fox’s “Taken 3” opposite Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace. In March 2015, Jonny joins Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Naomi Watts and Kate Winslet when “Insurgent” is released in theaters, the sequel to last year’s hit film “Divergent.”

Jonny has just wrapped the Working Title feature “We Are Your Friends” opposite Zac Efron, directed by Max Joseph, which takes place in the world of young DJ’s and electronic music. When Jonny is not working, he enjoys surfing, off roading, playing soccer, skateboarding, and traveling.

Sofia Black-D’Elia (Jesse) most recently had a guest-arc on the final season of “Gossip Girl” playing Sage, love interest to Chace Crawford’s Nate. Sofia’s breakout role was as the beautiful and troubled teen Tea Marvelli on MTV’s incarnation of the popular British television show “Skins.” She first got her start on ABC’s long-running soap opera “All my Children.” Other credits include “Criminal Justice” a pilot for HBO in which she played opposite James Gandolfini, and the independent feature “Born of War,” which made the festival circuit and was shown at Cannes in 2013.

Sam Lerner (Quinn) got his breakthrough role when director Barry Levinson cast him in the movie, "Envy," which starred his favorite actors Ben Stiller and Jack Black and gave him a chance to work with Rachel Weisz and Amy Poehler. Sam has been lucky enough to work with such producers as Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis and Michael Bay and for such directors as Levinson, Brett Ratner and Gil Kenan (“Monster House”).

Sam currently has a recurring role on "Suburgatory" as the nerdy but cute brainiac "Evan” as well as ABC’s “The Goldbergs.” In the big screen, Sam most recently starred in the independent movie "Walk of Fame."

Virginia Gardner (Christina) was born and raised in Sacramento, California. She began acting during her middle school productions and soon moved to Los Angeles to pursue her passion full time. Upon arriving in Los Angeles she quickly landed roles in “Hart of Dixie” and “Lab Rats” before recurring on Fox’s hit show “Glee.” In 2014, she was also featured in Nylon’s Young Hollywood issue alongside Hollywood’s brightest rising stars.

She is currently recurring on ABC’s “The Goldbergs.” Virginia also just wrapped the comedy feature film “Good Kids” opposite Ashley Judd and Zoey Deutch.

ABS-CBN welcomes the year 2015 strongly as it remains the most watched TV network in the country with an average national audience share of 42%, or six points higher compared to GMA’s 36%, based on data from Kantar Media for the month of January.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while the other ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen reportedly has only 1,980 homes based solely in urban areas that represent only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.

The Kapamilya network continues its lead in key territories such as Balance Luzon (all areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila) where it got an average total day audience share of 45%, in the Visayas with 56%, and Mindanao with 48%. GMA, on the other hand, garnered 36%, 26%, and 31%, respectively.

ABS-CBN continues its stronghold in the primetime (6PM-12MN) block with an average audience share of 47%, or 14 points higher than GMA (33%). The primetime block is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers effectively.

The supremacy of Kapamilya network’s Primetime Bida was strengthened by its top-caliber drama series such as “Dream Dad” (25.8%), “Forevermore” (24%), and “Two Wives” (18.9%).

Also reigning in the hearts of TV viewers was ABS-CBN’s special coverage of Pope Francis’ visit last January 15-19. “Thank You sa Malasakit: Pope Francis sa Pilipinas” got an average national TV rating of 13.2%, which is greater than GMA’s “Ang People’s Pope sa Pilipinas: A GMA News Special Coverage” (10.9%).

The Kapamilya network’s live coverage of the 63rd Miss Universe beauty pageant also won in the ratings game with a national TV rating of 16.8%.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN’s newest feel-good daytime TV series “Oh My G” was off to a good start as the Janella Salvador-starrer scored an average national TV rating of 14.4%, compared to its rival program on GMA “The Ryzza Mae Show” (7.5%).

Also included in the top 10 programs in the country for January are “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (25.5%), “TV Patrol” (23.7%), “Rated K” (22.2%), “Home Sweetie Home” (21.9%), “Wansapanataym” (21.8%), “The Voice of the Philippines” (20.7%), and “Mga Kwento Ni Marc Logan” (18.9%).
