Jed and Christian think green

Jed Madela and Christian Bautista love to think green.

At their concert with Juris, Kyla and Zia Quizon in Nuvali, Sta. Rosa on Saturday on April 21, Christian and Jed shared how they are helping make every day Earth Day.

“Maaga palang tinuturuan na kami mag-compost pit—naghuhukay kami tapos yung mga biodegradable naming tinatapon dun. After a while magiging garden soil so yun yung ilalagay naming sa plants. Hanggang ngayon andyan yung compost pit namin,” Christian shares.

He adds, “Sana hindi lang natin matandaan na kung kelan Earth Day saka lang natin papatayin yung mga gripo natin ‘pag nagtu-toothbrush tayo… Sana lagi nating matandaan.”

Christian Bautista and Jed Madela

Christian grew up in a `green’ family since his dad comes from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Jed, on the other hand, shares that he tries to make environmental awareness start at home.

“Yung mga kasama ko sa house, I make sure na conscious din sila—it starts there eh. So in our little way, mag-eexpand yun. I’ve been consciously practicing recycling at the house. I try to be really responsible in disposing garbage. And I really like plants. If you visit my home you’ll see all my plants, big and small,” Jed says, reinforcing the idea that protecting the environment should start on a personal level.

Christian and his fellow performers wanted to make people more aware about protecting the planet and its natural resources through the concert.

“It was fun to sing songs we only thought were love songs. But dig deep into the meaning of these songs (and you see) the relation to the environment. We need more of these events to make people conscious of Mother Earth,” Jed reveals.

Juris still in honeymoon mode

Months after she married her non-showbiz boyfriend, Juris Fernandez is a picture of quiet joy and contentment.

At the Green Freedom Concert in Nuvali Sta. Rosa, where she joined other performers on Saturday, April 21, Juris said she is adjusting well to married life.

“Mabuhay,” she describes married life. “Syempre masaya kasi kasama mo na yung mahal mo.”

She has discovered many pleasant things about her husband.

“Mas nakikila namin yung isa’t isa. May differences pa rin pala. Marami pa rin pala kaming hindi alam ngayon na magkasama na sa bahay. Exciting din kasi yung honeymoon namin was the first time na kaming dalawa lang.”

Having a baby

She shares that their honeymoon trip to Europe was altogether pleasant.

“Surprisingly, hindi naman kami nagkaproblema (sa mga gagawin). Nagkasundo naman kami.”

Marriage has not affected her work at all, “although right now hindi pa rin kami masyadong nag-aadjust kasi wala pa naman kaming inaalagang anak.”

The singer also reveals that there are no specific plans yet on the baby front, “kung darating, darating pero sa ngayon, ‘wag muna.”

Jason feels ‘much better’ after split with Melai

Months after his breakup with Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco admits he feels “much better now,” but not yet completely fine.

“Ako, sa totoo lang ngayon, okay lang naman, okay lang naman sa akin. Ako, personally, much better, much better. Mas okay na ‘yung feelings ko ngayon (kaysa) three months ago, two months ago,” Jason said at the awarding of P100,000 to his chosen charity, Mother of Mercy Home for the Elderly and Abandoned in San Pedro, Laguna, on Thursday, April 19.

Jason added that he would like to go on a vacation to help divert his attention.

“Okay minsan, minsan hindi rin. Ibig sabihin, hindi pa ganoon kaayos, hindi pa ganoon ka-okay, ganoon. Ngayon nga, magpapaalam sana ako magbakasyon, kasi nga para ma-divert iyong attention ko,” he revealed.

Jason Francisco

Jason shared that he went to Bacolod with friends for three days to give himself a break after his TV drama “Angelito” ended. He also revealed that he and Melai sometimes communicate.

People saw how Jason and Melai’s relationship bloomed and ended inside Pinoy Big Brother’s house. The cause of their split is not yet clear and Jason is keeping most of his feelings to himself.

Charity

Jason is the first Bench celebrity endorser to earn 100,000 votes in the “1M to 1M” campaign, which allots a cash prize to the celebrity’s charity of choice. He bested fellow Bench endorsers Jake Cuenca, Dingdong Dantes, Enchong Dee and Shaina Magdayao in getting the most number of votes.

Jason is happy and grateful that he won for his charity since he has a soft spot for the elders and his grandparents.

“Salamat sa mga fans and mga taong nag-support. Feeling ko rin naman hindi lang naman ito para sa akin, para rin ito sa mga lola. Hindi naman sa akin mapupunta ang pera, parang naging instrument lang ako para sa ganitong charity,” Jason said.

Jason did not expect he will be blessed with a showbiz career after his stint in Pinoy Big Brother Double Up. He also has high hopes for Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited winner Slater Young, who plans to enter showbiz.

“Kapag gwapo naman, siyempre habulin iyan ng chicks, so maraming magiging career siya, alam ko naman. ‘Tsaka maganda iyon kasi mayroon siyang iniisip na gusto niyang mag-artista, alam niya kung ano iyong pinasok niya,” Jason observed.

Advice to teen housemates

Now that the PBB Teen Edition is on, Jason admits he doesn’t know what the perfect strategy is to win the reality show. However, he advises teen housemates to behave and learn how to get along inside the house.

“Kahit naman anong galing mo doon, nasa tao pa rin iyon. Makisama ka lang rin, kase iba-iba naman ang mga ugali ng mga tao doon. Pakisamahan mo, basta nasa lugar ka lang,” Jason said.

Zia says dad Dolphy is in good shape

Zia Quizon has more good news for fans and followers of her dad Dolphy. The Comedy King is in good shape and doing well.

“He’s just at home and he’s doing well naman. He’s usually staying indoors lang kasi medyo tag-init na. He’s really in good spirits,” Dolphy’s youngest daughter says.

She adds that people may just be worried because her dad can’t do what he used to do anymore because of his age.

“I guess it all boils down to age lang,” she explains.

Zia Quizon

Zia performed with fellow singers Jed Madela, Christian Bautista, Kyla and Juris at NUVALI’s Green Freedom concert on Saturday, April 21. The concert was held in celebration of Earth Day.

Save Mother Earth

“We’re just trying to spread very simple ways to help. Kasi akala ng tao na to help save the environment, kailangan ang galling mo, maging engineer ka, mag-imbento ka, but no, you just have to think of the different ways to help Mother Earth,” states Zia.

She adds that people can start by doing small things.

“Tulad ng pag nag-shopping ka, magdala ka na lang ng bag para hindi sayang yung mga plastic na bag, or invest in filtered water para sa bahay na umiinom, hindi sayang sa plastic, things like that,” Zia goes on.

KC: Nothing is an accident

Heartbreak has a way of changing even the strongest among us. And KC Concepcion, by her own admission, is no exception.

But sorry, folks. She would rather keep people guessing about what exactly this change is all about.

Was the man’s chopped head she was holding in a magazine cover supposed to represent Piolo Pascual, her ex-boyfriend? She’d rather speak in riddles.

“Nothing is an accident. I would rather not talk about it,” she tells this writer at the story conference of Viva Entertainment’s upcoming movie, “Nothing Compares to You,” where KC stars with Anne Curtis and Derek Ramsey.

KC Concepcion

KC would rather turn to art to vent her feelings.

“Dinaan ko na lang sa art ang struggle ko,” she says relates.

KC insists she is not the type who will do things just because people tell her to. She must want to do them.

“It comes from a feeling that you want to do it,” she explains.

Thus, she agreed to hold that chopped head because she wanted to do it. She held her pet snake over that chopped head because she wanted to say something very important. Things just fell into place.

“We didn’t talk about how the cover would look like. Dinala ko lang ang pet snake ko kasi I wanted to show it to Mark Nicdao (of “Rogue” Magazine).

'Wild’ rumors

No, she shakes her head. KC didn’t go wild after that earth-shaking heartbreak.

“I wasn’t doing it because nagwala ako. You have to look deeper. Pictures say a thousand words.”

Unlike her mom, Sharon Cuneta, who calls a spade a spade and doesn’t mince words when facing her bashers, KC would rather let things go.

“Kung may mga bashers, kung may nagsasabing negative, hindi ako magrereklamo,” she explains.

She should know. As the daughter of Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion, KC has been in a goldfish bowl ever since she was born.

“Ipinanganak ako na may basher, dahil lang pinanganak ako. Di panindigan ko na. Hindi ako magrereklamo,” she explains.

Yes, the criticisms hurt.

“Tao rin naman ako,” KC states.

But she would rather think of those who love her more than those who don’t. And she is sure her defenders outnumber her detractors .

“Napalapit ako sa mga tao na na-realize kong nagmamahal sa akin. At hindi na ako masyadong nahihiya sa kanila dahil naibahagi ko ang isang bahagi ng buhay ko na dapat private,” KC relates.

She also gets her strength from fellow artists who have weathered personal storms and survived them – scarred, but with head held high.

“Fan ako ng mga artista na may pinagdaanan at kinaya nila. I look up to them. Kung kaya nila, kaya ko rin.”

Not playing safe anymore

This is why VIVA thinks KC is ready for heavier roles, those she can sink her teeth into, like the bad girl character she is playing in “Nothing Compares to You.”

“Iba rin ito para sa kin,” explains KC. “Hindi na masyadong safe. Parang di na ko bagay sa masyadong safe. Namulat na ang mga mata ko sa mga pinagdaanan ko.”

KC plays a rich girl who experiences her first rejection in life, courtesy of Derek Ramsey.

“She plays a bad girl in this romance-drama on betrayal and infidelity,” relates writer Mel del Rosario.

Thus, KC is excited. She is working with friends. KC and Anne worked together in many Kapamilya projects while Derek has been a co-host in a couple of shows.

Meanwhile, KC is slated to tour the country again on her fourth term as ambassadress for the UN World Food Program. She is also preparing for a new endorsement.

“Marvel's The Avengers” Stars Talk About Their Roles

“Marvel's The Avengers” Stars Talk About Their Roles

As “Marvel's The Avengers” gears up for its grand opening in the Philippines on April 25, the cast discuss their characters' motivations and how these shaped the film's gripping storyline.

Marvel Studios presents, in association with Paramount Pictures, “Marvel's The Avengers” – the super hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Robert Downey Jr. on Iron Man: “Tony Stark is open to all possibilities and has no problem accepting extraordinary happenings. Joining The Avenger team is an act of curiosity – he wants to see what's happening firsthand. He realized a while ago that he's not an island, and this time around, he's beginning to understand that it's about a group mindset and that `we' is better than `I.'”

Chris Evans on Captain America: “Big parts of Steve Rogers are his good nature, high morals and strong values. Those morals and values were created in a time when people treated each other differently. The level of interaction was a bit deeper. Everything feels one step apart with all of the technology we have now. A lot of the things that he believed in, stood for and loved have changed. They’re not gone - they’re just different. He’s trying to find his footing in a modern world.”

Chris Hemsworth on Thor: “Thor has more of a personal investment in what’s happening than the other Super Heroes because the villain, Loki, is his brother. The bigger conflict for him is that he’s trying to protect the greater good, but he has some deep questions about what is going on with his brother.”

Mark Ruffalo on The Hulk: “This Hulk is mercurial. He’s very unpredictable; he's nuanced. There’s a sense of humor there; there’s an ability to communicate. But he’s bristly and he’s incredibly dangerous, like a wild animal. His rage feels real; his reactions to things feel human.”

Jeremy Renner of Hawkeye: “Hawkeye is alone in the game, an outcast and a loner; he’s a lone wolf sort of character, so he’s not a team player, but will be there if needed.”

Scarlett Johansson on Black Widow: “Black Widow is all business. She’s sort of in a grey area. In a sense she’s been fighting the good fight, despite her dark background. But she’s committed because she has to be and her moral ground is more dutiful. She’s militaristic in that way; that’s how she knows right from wrong.”

Tom Hiddleson on Loki: “Loki’s villainy is motivated by the fact that he’s damaged and searching for his place in the universe, but in this film he’s a lot more menacing and a lot more powerful. He’s much more self-possessed. He’s also a god, so he’s more powerful than any human.”

Samuel L. Jackson on Nick Fury: “Nick Fury monitors a lot of things and when he sees a need he generally goes against the grain; he rubs a lot of people the wrong way by taking actions in situations that they don’t necessarily want him to take action in but he does anyway.”

Cobie Smulders on S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill: “Maria Hill and Nick Fury butt heads constantly. I think that Maria is a little bit more intuitive than Nick. But throughout the course of the film, she realizes that he is involved and he does care, and he is taking the right steps to protect our country and fight the bad guys.”

Clark Gregg on S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson: “When you look at the team, it's made up of rock stars and divas with giant muscles and super-powered egos, so somebody has the job backstage to make them all play in the same super band—and that’s what Agent Coulson does.

(Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble in the Philippines on April 25 2012. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

Marvel's “Spider-Man” and “The Incredible Hulk” animated series are now aired over ABS CBN, comprising an hour of early programming on Sunday mornings from 8:30-9:30am. ABS-CBN previously aired Marvel's “The Avengers” and “X-Men” animated series.)
