MMFF 2014 Box Office: Praybeyt Benjamin crosses P200M, Feng Shui passes P100M

Based on the latest MMFF 2014 Box Office Results, 'The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin' already crossed the P200-million mark in the MMFF 2014 Box Office after 4 days in theater, while another entry 'Feng Shui 2', the first local film to be shown in 4D, has reached the P100-million mark in 4 days.

According to Vice Ganda himself in a tweet this afternoon, his movie with Bimby Aquino Yap and Richard Yap has already earned P201-million as of last night, December 28, Day 4 of the 40th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2014).

vicegandako: "The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin closed Day 4 with 201Million. Maraming maraming salamat po Madlang People! Lolo must be very happy."

In comparison, the all-time highest grossing Filipino film 'Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy', which was Vice's entry during last year's MMFF, hit the P200M mark during Day 6 of the festival. Shall we expect now 'The Amazing Praybet Benjamin' to become the new highest grossing Pinoy film of all time after its impressive run in theaters?

TAPB has now also claimed the record: fastest movie to hit hit P200M (in just 4 days).

Meanwhile, another entry is also having an impressive run so far, Chito Roño''s 'Feng Shui 2',the first movie team-up of the Queen of Horror Films Kris Aquino and Primetime King Coco Martin.

Kris Aquino screaming in one scene for 'Feng Shui 2'

From December 25 to 28, 'Feng Shui 2' has already grossed P103.5M, according to the Twitter post by Kris' fan club, The Krisy Girls Global. With that figure, it's now the faster horror movie to pass the P100M mark, beating last year's 'Pagpag' which did it in 6 days.

KrisAquinoFANS: "Feng Shui gross Php 103,542,136.71 in 4 days!!! Congratulations!!!!!"

The combined gross of the 2 movies alone is now over P300-million.

No available figures for the remaining 6 entries. But MMDA has confirmed that the 3-day gross receipts of the festival was
P365-million.

'Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb' opens in PH theaters January 8

If you're done watching already most or all of the MMFF 2014 entries (or if you're not even patronizing at all those 8 Filipino movies), you have no other choice but to wait for January 8, 2014 so you can watch brand new movies, either locally made or from Hollywood.

The 40th Metro Manila Film Ferstival has started last December 25 and will run until the 7th of January, showing only Tagalog films.

Then on January 8, the Hollywood film 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will continue its run in Philippine theaters (it already premiered December 12, but was interrupted by the MMFF), the top-grossing MMFF 2014 entries will be extended, then local and foreign movies will make their debut in cinemas.

Those upcoming films opening in January 9 include the super scary 'Tragic Theater' starring Andi Eigenmann, John Estrada and Christopher De Leon, the rom-com 'Love, Rosie' starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, the fantasy-adventure 'Seventh Son' starring Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore and Ben Barnes, and the adventure comedy film 'Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb', which will be the last time we'll be seeing the late legendary actor Robin Williams on the big screen. Williams died just last August.

20th Century Fox Philippines sent Mykiru the press release below about their 2015 opener 'Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb', which stars Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller. Read:

"In "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb," Ben Stiller returns as security guard Larry Daley, together with a highly impressive group of comic actors. Owen Wilson is back as the irrepressible miniature cowboy Jedediah, along with his equally small buddy, the Roman general, Octavius, (Steve Coogan). Both are embroiled in the latest adventure, directed by Shawn Levy. As always, the legendary artifacts at New York's Museum of Natural History come to life, but this time, problems arise when they start malfunctioning. The magic that keeps them alive is waning and Larry's friends are in danger. Saving them involves an urgent trip to the British Museum in London.

While the first two films were set in the U.S., the new adventure takes the team to the United Kingdom. Owen Wilson and Steve
Coogan, reprise their roles as the duo of American cowboy Jedediah and Roman Centurion Octavius, both miniatures from historic dioramas. They're the smallest characters with the biggest friendship. Wilson says, "There has been an arc to our relationship. We started off sort of as adversaries, and now it's evolved into more of a team. We're practically a
buddy comedy within a funny family movie."

The friendship is all the more unexpected because the characters come from very different cultural backgrounds and eras. "There's a brashness to Jedediah," says Wilson, "that sort of runs up against and chafes the gentility of what Octavius represents." The picture of civility, Octavius is a military leader from ancient Rome. He and Jedediah face their greatest peril yet when they fly through a museum air duct and find themselves in a Pompeii diorama where Mount Vesuvius is about to erupt.

On being funny, Wilson relates that "My dad had a great sense of humor and on both sides of my family, humor was the way that the family related to each other. My mom had a good sense of humor, but my dad was hilarious. My dad was the head of the public television station in Dallas and that was the first station to carry MONTY PYTHON. He really loved MONTY PYTHON. So I think that being around him and his friends growing up was very helpful for me. And though I didn't have a background
as a stand up comedian and as a child I didn't ever think about becoming a comedian. In school I wasn't really a class clown, but I would get into trouble and sometimes give colorful answers to what I perceived to be banal questions from teachers, and that would make the other kids laugh and sometimes I'd get the teachers laughing a little bit. So maybe there's a
little bit of that in my background."

Returning to "Night at the Museum," Wilson believes that like the movie, there is an underlying magical charm in the movie, "Apart from its great adventure, what's also nice is that it's led to an upswing in kids' interest in museums - and the Natural History Museum. So that's a great thing that's happened and I think that is really because of Ben and Shawn and the way Shawn's able to mix the laughs with something that can be very touching. He just seems to have that touch."

One of the most gifted and versatile actors of his generation, Owen Wilson has starred in a slew of hit films. His early credits include "The Cable Guy," "Armageddon" and "Permanent Midnight." He further starred "Bottle Rocket," "Rushmore," "Zoolander," "Marley & ME," "Wedding Crashers," "Meet The Parents," "Starsky & Hutch," "The Internship," "The Royal Tenenbaums," (for which Wilson and Anderson received a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination), "The Darjeeling Limited," "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and most recently, the highly praised film, "The Grand Budapest Hotel."

"Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb" opens January 8 in cinemas nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros."

Vice Ganda on grandpa’s death: Patay na yung puso ko

Comedian-TV host Vice Ganda is devastated over the passing of his grandfather Gonzalo Dacumos, who died on Christmas Day, December 25 at 93.

Dacumos reportedly suffered from renal and respiratory failure.

The "It's Showtime" host, who is very close to his grandfather, confirmed the news on his Twitter account. Vice Ganda revealed that the old man, whom he calls 'Santa Clause', loved him unconditionally.

Greatest man

"'Santa Clause' is the greatest man. I'm so thankful to 'Santa Clause' because I love him so much. I'm so sad right now because 'Santa' died on Christmas Day," he said during the eulogy, which was shown in "The Buzz."

Vice Ganda grew up under Dacumos' care when his mother worked abroad.

"Alam ko sa sarili ko na proud siya sa akin, kaya ginagawa ko ang lahat para maging proud siya. I'm sure proud siya. Sinigurado ko na bago siya mawala, proud siya,"  the host-comedian said.

Dacumos' remains was cremated on Sunday, December 28.

Last full show

Vice Ganda admitted during the eulogy that  he doesn't know how to carry on, now that his grandfather is gone.

"Hindi ko alam kung naririnig nyo ba ako or nakikita nyo ko, kasi kung nakikita nyo ko, ibig sabihin, nakakakita kayo ng multo. Kasi hindi ko alam kung buhay pa ako ngayon. Hindi ako sigurado. Paano ako magiging buhay eh patay na yung puso ko. Ang alam ng utak ko patay na ang lolo ko."

Vice Ganda feels blessed his grandpa saw how successful his grandson's  Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry "The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin," is.

"Nakakatuwa kasi bago siya umalis, he made sure na I was number one sa MMFF this year. Nanuod muna siya bago siya umalis. Nanuod siya ng last full show."

As of Friday, December 26,  MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) chair Francis Tolentino declared "The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin,” “Feng Shui 2,” “My Big Bossing” and “Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2” as the top 4 money earners of the MMFF .

Jennylyn Mercado gets kissed on the lips by Erap Estrada at MMFF 2014 Awards Night

Jennylyn Mercado gets kissed on the lips by Erap Estrada at MMFF 2014
Awards Night
Jennylyn Mercado was the winner of the Best Actress award at the 40th
Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2014) Awards Night held Saturday
It was for Jennylyn Mercado's outstanding performance as a
Filipino-English tutor named Tere in the MMFF 2014 rom-com entry
"English Only, Please", which also grabbed 6 other wins, such as 2nd
Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Jennylyn's co-star Derek
Ramsay, Best Screenplay and Best Story.
Robin Padilla, lead star of 'Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo' announced
the Best Actress winner, and the trophy was handed to Jennylyn by
former Philippine President, now Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada.
It took more than 10 seconds for the 77-year-old politician-actor to
hand the trophy to the Kapuso actress. He held Jen's right hand for so
long as he congratulated her, then whispered something to her ear and
kissed the actress so close to her lips. (Many believe Jennylyn got
kissed on the lips.)
Mayor Erap was then seen wiping his mouth after the kiss and flashed a
very wide smile. He was like telling everyone that he kissed Jennylyn
and he loved it a lot!
Can't blame Erap if he can't resist the urge while giving the
trophy to the Best Actress winner. Jennylyn was sooo hot!
It was Jennylyn Mercado's first time ever to win the MMFF Best Actress
award. She was able to beat nominees Vina Morales for "Bonifacio: Ang
Unang Pangulo", Erich Gonzales for the 'Ahas' episode of "Shake,
Rattle & Roll XV" and Carla Abellana also for "Shake, Rattlle & Roll
15", but for its 'Ulam' episode.
