Don'T Miss The Hilarious Musical, 'Spamalot' Starring Rachel Alejandro, At The RCBC Theatre In Makati On Its Final Weekend

WE'VE SEEN the local staging of "Spamalot" at RCBC Theater directed by Joel Trinidad (son of Noel), featuring amazing performances from Lorenz Martinez (son of Leo) as King Arthur and Rachel Alejandro (daughter of Hajji) as the Lady of the Lake. Rachel excels in all her numbers: "The Song that Goes Like This", "Find Your Grail" and "What Happened to My Part". She also gets to wear some fabulous gowns designed by Francis Libiran.

Ripped off from the British movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", the musical comedy irreverently spoofs Camelot, the Knights of the Round Table and the search for the Holy Grail. It's a hit in both West End in London and in Broadway. Other rollicking musical numbers are "I Am Not Dead Yet", King Arthur's "I'm All Alone" and the inspiring and catchy "Always Look at the Bright Side of Life" which you will be humming when you go out of the theatre.

Joel Trinidad's clever mounting and direction has its own take on the material, making it appear like it's set in a mental asylum with lead actor Lorenz Martinez first appearing on stage in a straight jacket guarded by mental hospital attendants. They also changed some lyrics, like in the song "You Won't Succeed in Broadway", with Broadway becoming RCBC and the word Jews replaced by stars. Pop cultural references abound, including Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Lea Salonga. They even include the hit song "Despacito". If you want a riotously funny show, don't miss "Spamalot" on its last two days this weekend on Friday and Saturday, August 11 and 12.

Mother Lily Monteverde Steals The Thunder From Her Stars At The 'Woke Up Like This' Presscon With A Surprise Hiphop Dance Number

MOTHER LILY stole the presscon of "Woke Up Like This" when she joined a group of male dancers who performed a special number for the press to the tune of today's hit song, "Despacito". We didn't recognize her right away as she was in full costume of a basketball uniform looking like a millennial with her dark shades. She was even wearing a wig for long hair. And she danced hiphop with so much energy and gusto.

When the cast and the press realized that it was Mother Lily who was dancing, they all cheered for her and shrieked with delight. Cast members Vhong Navarro, Lovi Poe, Dione Monsanto, Cora Waddell, Yana Asistio, child actor Raikko Mateo and the director, Joel Ferrer, joined her on the dance floor like they're all having a big party.

It was the first time Mother Lily did such a dance number in a presscon and she's the only local producer who can pull off that kind of stunt. After the dance number, we talked to her as she was wiping off the beads of sweat in her forehead.

"Pinilit lang ako ni Roselle (her daughter)," she says. "Ayoko noong una. 78 na ako, ha. Pero naisip ko, why not? Let's have fun. Okay naman, di ba? Enjoy naman ang lahat."

We told her everyone enjoyed her performance. "Woke Up Like This" will open in theaters on August 23 and it's her own birthday presentation as she will be turning a year older on August 19.
