"Transit" is Philippines Entry to Oscars Awards 2013

"Transit," the acclaimed Cinemalaya 2013 film starring Jasmine Curtis-Smith, has been selected by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) as the Philippines' official entry to the 86th Academy Awards which takes place in March 2014.
Directed by Hannah Espia, "Transit" figured in a three-way tie with Erik Matti's "On the Job" and Brillante Mendoza's "Thy Womb," was eventually chosen when the selection committee's head, director Peque Gallaga, voted in favor of "Transit."
Also part of the short-list deliberated upon by the seven-member special committee were Matti's "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles," Richard Somes' "Supremo," Mark Meily's "El Presidente," Cesar Apolinario and Marnie Manicad's "Dance of the Steel Bars," Jeffrey Jeturian's "Ekstra," Veronica Velasco's "Tuhog," and Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil's "Boses."
In its statement released Wednesday afternoon, FAP noted "Transit" was a last-minute entry as it only started its commercial exhibition on September 11. The release date is nonetheless still within the October 2012-September 2013 period specified in Oscar regulations.

"Transit" was earlier released in July as an entry in the New Breed category of the 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, where it won major awards including Best Film and Best Direction for Espia.

It also garnered the awards for Best Actress (Irma Adlawan), Best Supporting Actress (Jasmine Curtis-Smith), Best Cinematography (Ber Cruz), Best Editing (Benjamin Tolentino, Espia), and Best Original Music Score (Mon Espia).
Additionally, the film scored a number of special recognition - the Netpac Award, the Special Jury Citation for ensemble acting, and the Audience Choice Award.
Set in Herzliya, Israel, "Transit" tells the story of Moises (Ping Medina) and Janet (Irma Adlawan), two overseas Filipinos who are forced to hide their respective children (Marc Justine Alvarez, Jasmine Curtis-Smith) upon learning of the government's plan to deport children of foreign workers.
Produced by film director Paul Soriano, "Transit" is the fifth Cinemalaya original production selected as the Philippines' Oscars entry, after Auraeus Solito's "Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros" (2006), Adolfo Alix Jr.'s "Donsol" (2007), Marlon Rivera's "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank" (2011), and Jun Lana's "Bwakaw" (2012).

Matteo Guidicelli Okay With Ex-Gf Maja Salvador Having A New Bf, Not Yet Ready For A New One

MATTEO GUIDICELLI remains loveless even if his last girlfriend, Maja Salvador, has moved on and is now hitched to Gerald Anderson. He was linked for a while with Jessy Mendiola but Jessy herself says their relationship was “naudlot” or didn’t push through.

“Nakaka-miss din magka-girlfriend but I’m not in a hurry to find one,” he says at the presscon of “Galema, Anak ni Zuma” that starts airing on September 30. “Kusa namang darating din yan. Hindi natin kailangang pilitin.”

What can he say about the Maja-Gerald affair? “They look happy with each other so dapat, maging happy rin tayo for them. Basta if people are happy being together, let’s just be happy for them also. Let’s just be positive about everything.”

What about Jessy now being wooed by Sam Milby? “Ganun din. Let’s just be happy for them as long as masaya sila. Basta ako, focused muna ako sa work ko. I’m happy to be reunited with Andi Eigenmann in ‘Galema’ after we worked together three years ago in ‘Agua Bendita’. It’s really exciting to work with her again kasi, noon, sobrang bata pa kami. Now, I think mas seryoso na kami, mas malalim na as actors so we can deliver more. ”

Lian Paz Is In Better Terms With Ex Paolo Contis, Entertains New Suitor

SHE’S BETTER known as the ex-wife of Paolo Contis, but former EB Babe Lian Paz is determined to make it on her own as an actress this time. She’s grateful to GMA-7 for casting her in the new 6 PM soap, “Prinsesa ng Buhay Ko”, that starts on Monday to replace “Binoy Henyo”.

“I play Marco Alcaraz’ ambisyosang girlfriend, si Violet,” she says. “May pagkakontrabida ang role kaya challenging. Napakaganda ng break na itong ibinigay nila sa akin kaya pinaghandaan ko ito. Nagpapayat ako nang husto kasi sexy dancer ako rito sa isang club at mahuhumaling sa’kin si Marco. Kukumbinsihin ko naman siyang gamitin ang kapatid niya, si Kris Bernal, para magkapera kami.”

Did she ask Paolo’s permission to be active again in showbiz? “No need. Friends naman na kami ngayon. Tapos na yung time na magkagalit kami. Na-appreciate ko nga yung nanatili siyang tahimik habang ako, nagsasalita. Hindi niya ko pinatulan. But now, nag-uusap kami for the sake of our two children.”

Is there a possibility of reconciliation between them? “Hindi natin masasabi what will happen in the future. Nasa tadhana yan. But as of now, may nanliligaw sa’kin, businessman from Cebu, pero siempre, marami kong fears kasi may dalawa na kong anak. Kailangan matanggap niyang buo hindi lang ako kundi pati mga anak ko.”

As a former EB Babe, what can she say about the Willy Bayola sex video scandal with EB Babe Yosh? “Very close ako kay Kuya Wally nung nasa ‘Eat Bulaga’ pa ko kaya nalungkot ako kasi alam ko how much he loves ang family niya, lalo mga anak niya. Maski yung ibang members naman, very disappointed sila kay Yosh. First time kasing na-involved ang EB Babes sa ganyang malaking issue at hindi maganda ang reflection para sa kanilang lahat.”
