Kaye Abad wants to work with John Lloyd Cruz again

Kaye Abad wants to wotk with John Lloyd Cruz again

Kaye Abad’s tandem with John Lloyd Cruz in the hit weekly youth-oriented series of early 2000s “Tabing Ilog” paved the way for a flourishing career she enjoys to this day. It is no surprise, then, that the actress wants to work on a reunion project with him.

“Matagal na naming hinihintay ’yan (ni Lloydie), napag-uusapan namin na, ‘Uy, kailan na tayo mag-‘MMK’ (‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’)?’ Kahit ‘MMK’ lang,” she says in an interview.

The two have actually worked together since “Tabing Ilog.” Kaye was a recent guest in “Home Sweetie Home,” Lloydie’s sitcom with Toni Gonzaga.

This wouldn’t be their last collaboration if it weren’t for one thing. “Busy kasi si Lloydie, eh, so hindi maisingit,” the actress relates.

She is proud of how John Lloyd’s career has skyrocketed through the years. “Malalim na siyang actor noon pa, pero this time, mas pa. Iba na siya, eh, and siyempre Box Office King pa.”

True friend

John Lloyd isn’t Kaye’s only contemporary that made it big.

Jodi Sta. Maria, another “Tabing Ilog” alum, is currently enjoying huge success as the lead actress on “Be Careful With My Heart.”

Kaye believes Jodi more than “deserves” her success and is not the least envious.

“I’m very happy for her. Ganun lang ang magkakaibigan, suportahan kami. May mauuna lang (mabigyan ng break) siguro nahuli lang ako ng kaunti. Masaya ako for Jodi at alam kong hardworking siya talaga,” she says.

Blessing in disguise

While she has remained active in show business after her “Tabing Ilog” days, Kaye has been relegated to doing support roles for some time.

So when she received an offer to play lead on ABS-CBN’s “Two Wives,” her first since “Tabing Ilog,” she thought it was “too good to be true.”

The 32-year-old admits the offer was unexpected, saying, “ang dami ng bata ngayon, plus ’yung trend na ngayon bata (ang bida).”

She admits there is pressure on her part, particularly with people telling her how much she deserves the break.

Still, she believes that the decade-long wait is worth it.

“Every night, I always pray kay God. Lagi kong sinasabi sa Kanya na, ‘Hindi po ako nagmamadali.’ Willing ako magantay as long as maganda ’yung project na dadating.

“Maybe before sinasabi Niya na, ‘Hindi mo pa kayang i-handle ’yan’ (kaya hindi ako nabibigyan ng lead role). Then siguro this time, nakita Niya ng kaya ko na and I’m matured enough. In God’s time talaga darating ang para sa’yo, lahat may rason kung bakit nangyayari.”

Loyalty

Kaye made clear that she is definitely not entertaining offers from other networks at this point.

“Loyal ako sa ABS-CBN and I’m very happy naman sa lahat ng binibigay nila sa’kin,” she says.

“Maaaring hindi sunod-sunod pero lahat ng binibigay nilang project very promising at challenging so wala akong reklamo.”

When it rains, it pours

Kaye considers 2014 her lucky year because everything seems to have fallen into place – her career, family and love life.

She says, “Grabe ngayon, ’pag nagdadasal ako, sobrang (nagpapasalamat) ako kay God.”

Kaye happily shares that her boyfriend, actor Paul Jake Castillo, is supportive and does not meddle in her decisions, especially when it comes to her career.

On “Two Wives,” Kaye plays a loving mother and a wife to Jason Abalos’ character but their happy marriage will eventually be ruined.

“Two Wives,” which also stars Erich Gonzales and Patrick Garcia, among others, airs Monday after “Ikaw Lamang” on ABS-CBN.
