Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival 2013 – Movie Entries

The Film Development Council of the Philippines, in cooperation with SM Cinema, the largest cinema exhibitor chain in the country, brings you Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival 2013 – All-Masters Edition.
Showing in all SM Cinemas nationwide from September 11 - 17 for only P100 per movie, the National Film Festival (NFF) 2013 – All Masters Edition will feature twelve of the best and most prolific film directors in the country. This year’s NFF will showcase fresh masterpieces from Philippine’s cinema greats: Tikoy Aguiluz, Mel Chionglo, Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes, Joel Lamangan, Elwood Perez, Gil Portes, Jose Javier Reyes, Maryo J. Delos Reyes, Chito Rono, Romeo Suzara and Celso Ad Castillo.
Elwood Perez of the Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit fame, makes a comeback with "Otso" starring veteran actress Anita Linda which is a story of an ambidextrous, aging author (Vincent M. Tañada) who calls on his Muse to rid of his writer’s block.
Gil M. Portes, director of the Gawad Urian-winning Mga Munting Tinig directs "Isang Tag-Araw ni Twinkle", an account of a drug addict who seeks rehabilitation and in the process re-connects with her dying father. Isang Tag-araw ni Twinkle stars actress Ellen Adarna, Rina Reyes, Cris Villanueva, Pinky Amador and Arnold Reyes.
Much awaited among the line-up is the familiar powerhouse tandem of Lore Reyes and Peque Gallaga who, for this festival, has "Sonata" to offer. Sonata, which stars dramatic artists Cherrie Gil, Joshua Pineda, Chino Jalandoni and Richard Gomez, tells the story of a worn-out artist who recovers her spirit through a relationship with a young boy. Gallaga and Reyes had worked on a few films in the past which includes Magic Temple and Batang X.
Jose Javier Reyes, known for his mainstream blockbusters such as Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo and Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi directs "Ano Ang Kulay ng mga Nakalimutang Pangarap?" which has Ryan Agoncillo, Jackie Lou Blanco, Bobby Andrews, Chynna Ortaleza, Kim Rodriguez, Alwyn Uytingco, and Rustica Carpio in the cast. Now that the matriarch of the family has died, the children who were under her care have flown back from abroad to bury their mother and decide on the fate of their nanny.
Romy Suzara comes back with his NFF opus "Tinik". Tinik tells the story of a middle-aged couturier who faces the many problems of being gay while, in the midst of all the dilemma, tries to hold on to his own dignity. Tinik stars Ricardo Cepeda and Lemuel Pelayo. Suzara rose to fame in the early seventies with movies like Tatlong Mukha ni Rosa Vilma and Carinosa, both starring veteran actress Vilma Santos. Tikoy Aguiluz, on the other hand, directs Eman, a biopic on Eman Lacaba, a brilliant poet turned activist with Matinee idol Derek Ramsey playing the lead role. Aguiluz has directed a similar biopic in the mid-80s: Balweg which is about rebel priest Fr. Conrado Balweg.
"Lauriana" by Mel Chionglo centers on domestic drama about a Philippine Constabulary soldier’s mistress in the 1950s. The film tackles obsession, passionate love and abuse.  Based on a true story, Chionglo describes the film as a psychological thriller. The film casts Bangs Garcia, Victor Basa and Allen Dizon.
A couple of this year’s NFF’s films have strong political themes. Chito Rono’s film "Badil" revolves around a small barrio’s corrupted voting system seen through the eyes of a young boy.
Joel Lamangan’s "Lihis", on the other hand,  is set in the 70s Martial Law era where two male members of a rebel organization, in the midst of their crusade, share an intimate relationship. Lihis stars Jake Cuenca and Joem Bascon with Isabelle Daza, Lovi Poe and Ms. Gloria Diaz.
Veteran director Maryo J. Delos Reyes’ "Bamboo Flowers" completes the line-up and is a film that tackles the rousing beauty of the Bohol Island and the lives of the people in it. The film casts indie film siren Mylene Dizon with Max Collins, Orlando Sol, Ruru Madrid, Leandro Baldemor and Ms Irma Adlawan. Maryo J. Delos Reyes directed Magnifico which won the Crystal Bear Award in the Berlin International Film Festival.
Each of the director’s film is set in their respective hometowns: Maryo J. de los Reyes in Bohol, Tikoy Aguiluz in Davao, Peque Gallaga in Bacolod, and Mel Chionglo in Quezon, with undisclosed places for Chito Roño and Jose Javier Reyes.

Eugene Domingo Admits She's A Rough Diamond Compared To Maricel Soriano As Diamond Star

WHEN MARICEL Soriano and Eugene Domingo first worked together in Regal’s “Bahay Kubo”, Maria won as best actress and Eugene, best supporting actress in the 2007 Metro Filmfest. Since then, Uge has become a lead actress herself and they’re now on equal footing as the warring mamas in “Momzillas” that opens on September 18. In the trailer, Maria is billed as the Diamond Star while Uge is tagged as the Rough Diamond Star. How does Uge feel about this?

“Talaga namang rough lang ako compared sa isang Maricel Soriano,” she says. “Pipinuhin pa ako. Sa dami ng pinagdaanan niyang intriga at pagsubok sa buhay, she deserves the title Diamond Star kasi matibay at matatag talaga siya, hindi siya natutumba.” She then turns to Maria and says: “Pahingi ng alahas, ha.”

How’s it working with Maria now? “Sobrang daldal niya. Kahit inaantok na ko kung minsan, talk show pa rin siya ng talk show. Sabi ko, wala sigurong kausap sa bahay. But I won’t change that kasi nakakaaliw naman ang pagiging madaldal niya. Para siyang radio. Sa pagiging artista naman, gustung-gusto ko ‘yung malasakit niya’t pagiging sensitive sa co-actors niya. ‘Yung respeto, hindi nawawala sa kanya ‘yung respeto big star ka man o bit player. Pati sa mga bata, kina Andi Eigenmann at Billy Crawford, may respeto siya. She keeps quiet, for them to be able to concentrate.”

Jessy Mendiola Flattered About Sam Milby's Declaration Of His Love For Her

JESSY MENDIOLA says she appreciates Sam Milby’s coming out in the open to admit that he’s courting her. So what can she say about Sam? “Gentleman siya,” she says. “He’s observant and attentive. Kung may kailangan ka, he anticipates it at aasikasuhin ka niya.”

How did she feel when he admitted on TV that he’s wooing her? “Siguro naman, any girl would be flattered. I didn’t know that he’ll do that, na magsasalita siya. Wala namang masama roon, pero nagulat lang ako.”

After her breakup with JM de Guzman, she was linked to Matteo Guidicelli but she says it didn’t prosper. Is she now ready to fall in love again? “Honestly, I don’t think I’m ready for another relationship and I hope Sam will understand that. Kasi right now, all my attention is focused on my new show, ‘Maria Mercedes’. This is the biggest break I got from ABS-CBN and I really want to thank them for giving to me this local remake of the Thalia hit Mexicanovela na personal favorite ko talaga. I’m putting all my best efforts on this at wala akong tigil sa dasal na sana, tangkilikin ito ng viewers, lalo na ngayong malapit nang umere ito.”
