Kuya Germs Celebrates 18 Years Of 'Walang Tulugan Ni Master Showman' (3 Photos)

KUYA GERMS MORENO is celebrating the 18th anniversary of his “Walang Tulugan ni Master Showman”. GMA-7 hosted a special presscon for him and his co-hosts: John Nite, Jake Vargas, Aki Torio, Hiro Peralta, Sharmaine, Shirley Fuentes, Arkin del Rosario, Ken Chan and Jake Roberto. “Magde-debut na kami,” he quips. “It only means matunog pa rin kami kaya hindi kami iniiwan ng viewers.”

Last year, he celebrated his 50th year in showbiz. What’s his secret? “I believe in prayers. God gives me strength para magpatuloy kasi alam niyang may mga tinutulungan ako. Apat ang apo ko sa anak kong si Federico, 3 boys and a girl. Yung eldest, 21 na, and they all study in La Salle. Bukod sa kanila, heto pa ang mga marami kong anak-anakan na tinutulungan ko in their careers,” he points to his co-hosts.

He started as a janitor at Clover Theatre. “Pero hindi counted yun sa 50 years ko in showbiz. I start nang papirmahin ako ng kontrata sa Sampaguita Pictures at naging comic tandem kami ni Boy Alano. Sa TV, I started with the late Ike Lozada, then I went solo in 1978 in ‘Germside’, produced by Jojit Paredes. One year later, ayaw na niya. I talked to the wife of Bob Stewart and she said, you have to pay the airtime. But Mr. Medardo Jimenez, na boss din noon sa GMA, told me na five producers ang gustong tumulong sa’kin. He gave me to Gil Balaguer na pinag-produce ako ng bagong show, ‘Germspesyal’. It ran for 5 years. Hanggang sa naging ‘GMA Supershow’ ito at dumami ang shows ko sa GMA. I did the first reality show na live workshop on TV teaching newcomers to sing, dance, host and act, ‘That’s Entertainment’, which ran from 1986 to 1996. It used to air Monday to Friday pero nag-hit kaya nagkaroon pa ng ‘Satur day Entertainment’. And I’m proud of my graduates na iba-iba ang achievements, like Lea Salonga na international star in London and Broadway, Isko Moreno na vice mayor ngayon and Precious Hipolito who became a newscaster.”

There was a turnaround in his career in 1996. “Isa-isang nawala ang shows ko. Una ang ‘Saturday Entertainment’, tapos ang ‘That’s’, ang ‘GMA Supershow’, pati yung ‘Negosiyete’, nasibak. Umiiyak akong mag-isa sa kuwarto. Bakit nagkaganito? Then Atty. Felipe Gozon gave me a chance sa late night. Naisip ko nga ang ‘Master Showman’. Nilagay kami sa 10:30 PM. Sabi sa’kin, walang manonood diyan. Pero hindi, we’re airing live sa Broadway Centrum, ang haba-haba ng pila ng gustong manood. Tapos nilipat kami sa 12 midnight. Doon na nga ito naging ‘Walang Tulugan’ na 18 years na ngayon.”

So how old is he? “Iisa lang ang sagot ko diyan: the same as yesterday,” and he laughs. Happy anniversary, Master Showman!

Solenn Heussaff Has No Plans Of Tying The Knot Soon With Argentine Boyfriend (7 Photos)

SOLENN HEUSSAFF is lucky she got good reviews for “Mumbai Love” even if the movie itself was panned by some writers. “Masyado kasing mahaba,” she says. “Even my dad said, sobrang haba. It’s almost 3 hours kasi in its premiere night. Pinutulan daw for the regular showing, but still long.”

Writer Allan Diones says it started well but didn’t know where it’s going so he wasn’t able to stand it and walked out. “But I enjoyed doing it,” says Solenn.

So what’s her next movie? “Not sure yet. But there’s talk of doing a local version of ‘Cruel Intentions’ with Lovi Poe. Sana matuloy and I want to play yung Selma Blair role na virginal.”

She has now released her second album, “SOS”, which is also her nickname. “It can also mean Sinner Or Saint,” she quips.

So which one is she? “I’m both, simply because I’m not perfect. I’m proud of this album because it has one of my compositions, ‘Never Met a Man’, which is about conceited men and metrosexuals na sobra na’t di mo alam kung babae na. The album has seven original songs by rock icon Ely Buendia, hiphop stars Ron Henley and Klumcee. A bonus song is available when you download in i-tunes, ‘Until the Sunrise’ by Miguel Escueta which was used in ‘Mumbai Love’. The carrier single is a dance tune, Ron Henley’s ‘Diva’. This album is more upbeat than my debut self-titled album that achieved Platinum in both physical and digital platforms.”

Other songs that are potential hits are “Chasing the Sun”, “All I Have to Give”, “Cry Me a River” and “Stereo Love”. Now available in CDs at leading record stores and thru digital downloads via spinnr.ph and i-tunes.

Solenn is sad that her GMA News TV show, “Fashbook”, has been axed after three years. But she’s now included in the cast of the primetime show, “Adarna”, as Diana, a girl who belongs to the race of bird people called Adarna. “Magiging ka-love triangle ako ni Kylie Padilla with Geoff Eigenmann at ako ang magiging test kung tapat ang love ni Geoff for her.”

She’ll be the special guest of Ogie Alcasid in his “Samahang Walang Ka-Valentine” concerts on February 13, 14 and 15. “I will be singing Adele’s ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ solo then will do a duet with Ogie.” So when will she have a solo concert? “Our plan is to do it a back-to-back concert with Lovi Poe na parang ‘Burlesque’ ni Cristina Aguilera. Sana, matuloy.”

It's common knowledged she just returned with her live in BF Nico Bolzico from his native Argentina. Will they be walking down the aisle anytime soon? "Ay, naku, wala yan sa immediate plans namin. Malayo pa."

To Help Promote Their Movie, Piolo Pascual Admits He Once Tried To Woo Toni Gonzaga (6 Photos)

OBVIOUSLY TO help promote their movie, Piolo Pascual admitted in the “Starting Over Again” presscon that he once attempted to court Toni Gonzaga. “When she moved to ABS-CBN, we went on date watching Gary V’s concert,” he says. “But then I realized na it’s too unfair para harangin mo o pigilan mo ‘yung pangarap niya to become a certified actress. I know na gusto niyang makilala muna, bilang kaka-transfer lang niya sa ABS. So, may pagpaparaya, kumbaga.”

“Ewan ko kung bakit siya nagparaya. Hindi ko alam,” says Toni. “Kasi, nahihiya ako kay PJ nu’n, eh! Nahihiya talaga ako. Ikaw kasi, e! Inamin mo! Nakakaasar! But actually, parang mas naging okay. Kasi, imadyinin mo. Halimbawa, nagkaroon ng something. Tapos, hindi naman na-develop, hindi naman nag-push through, later on magkakaroon kami ng ilangan. Kaya ngayon dito sa pelikula, sobrang comfortable ako kay PJ. Pagdating sa pag-arte, napakakomportable ko sa kanya.”

But she was uncomfortable in their love scene. “First time ko, at dahil lang ito kay Inang (Olive Lamasan). Very naughty ang love scene, but very, very nice. It’s a masterpiece. It’s a work of art, I must say. I’m very proud. Pero hindi puedeng ipapanood sa parents ko at baka lang maiskandalo sila.”

Vice Ganda Fears of Cedric Lee, Asked PSG from Kris Aquino

Vice Ganda Fears of Cedric Lee, Asked PSG from Kris Aquino

Is Vice Ganda also fear for his life while continuously swiping on Deniece Cornejo and Cedric Lee on "Its Showtime," reason why he asked his friend and Presidential sister Kris Aquino of Presidential Security Guard (PSG)?
During the show's "I Am PoGay" segment on Tuesday, the comedian-host again made a remark on the two alleged suspect in Vhong Navarro's brutal attack on January 22 at the Forbeswood Condominium in The Fort, Taguig.
ABS-CBNNews reports:
Vice Ganda left his co-hosts on "It's Showtime" tongue-tied on Tuesday as he joked about the controversial mauling incident involving actor Vhong Navarro, who is currently on leave from the noontime program as he continues to recover.

During the "I Am Pogay" segment of the live show, contestant Limuel Dizon mentioned "safety" when asked to relate a bird cage to life for the question-and-answer portion.

"For safety! Naku, sabi ko na nga ba, Vhong, dapat nagdala ka ng hawla," Vice Ganda quipped, as he ran to the side of the stage, laughing.

Co-hosts Anne Curtis and Karylle, although smiling over the joke, were speechless as Vice Ganda continued referring to the January 22 incident in Taguig.

"Sabi niya kasi safety, e! Kung naisip natin 'yun, e 'di hindi napahamak 'yung kaibigan natin!" the comedian said, feigning anger.

The audience laughed louder when Vice Ganda mentioned "elevator," after being asked by co-host Billy Crawford where the bird cage could possibly be used "for safety."

Pointing at a speechless Curtis as he joked about the case, Vice Ganda said, laughing, "Pulang-pula si Dyesebel, o!"

The comedian triggered more laughs when he asked the "Pogay" contestant if he is a "suspect" in the incident, as he had been perspiring through the conversation.

Vice Ganda then addressed actress-host Kris Aquino, asking, in jest, to give him presidential security detail.

Sam Neill’s Formidable Otto Luger in "The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box"

Sam Neill’s Formidable Otto Luger in "The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box"

The  film, based on G.P. Taylor’s novel “The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box,” tells  the  story  of  young  Mariah  Mundi  (Aneurin  Barnard),  whose  world  gets  turned upside down when his parents (played by Ioan Gruffudd and Keeley Hawes) go missing and  his  younger  brother  (played  by  Xavier  Atkins)  gets  kidnapped.  Mariah  teams  up with Will Charity (Michael Sheen) to embark on a journey that lands them at the Prince Regent Hotel, which is operated by Otto Luger (Neill).

It’s discovered that Otto is the one responsible for the kidnapping of Mariah’s brother, and he might have also found the secret lair that contains the Midas Box. With this box, anyone can turn anything into gold. And if it falls into the hands of Otto, bad things will happen.
There’s a quote that you said over 20 years ago in reference to your Carl Fitzgerald character in “Death in Brunswick.” And that quote was, “Of all the characters I’ve played, I think I have more in common with [Carl] than I do with “Reilly: Ace of Spies.” I was wondering, even though Otto [Luger] is a villain, what characteristics do you have in common with him?
Did you see “Death in Brunswick?”

No, I did not.

[Laughs]  OK.  [Carl]  is  a  kind  of  hapless  fool.  I  think  the  only  thing  I  have  in  common with this particular character would be the beard. [Otto] is a very, very bad man, and I, myself, am a paragon of goodness.

Out of all the characters you’ve played over the years, which is the one with whom you would say you have the most in common, and which is the one with whom you have the least in common?

Well, I’ve certainly got nothing in common with  this guy, apart  from an affection  for a good neck tie. I don’t know. I don’t think anything I’ve played has been remotely connected to myself, apart from when I’ve been playing myself in a documentary. Hopefully, every character you play is vivid and complete unto  themselves. Inevitably,  there will be something of yourself that kind of bleeds into the character to some extent, but I hope they live and breathe on their own.

This is based off the first “Mariah Mundi” book, and a lot of successful, cinematic franchises have been based on books as of recent years – including “Harry Potter”; “Twilight”; and even “Jurassic Park.” If you could place yourself in another franchise aside from “Jurassic Park,” of which one would you like to be in at least one film?

Hmm… can you give me any more franchises?

Oh, there’s “Harry Potter,” “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “Twilight,” “Indiana Jones,” “Star Wars”… I  think  they’ve all pretty much done  their dash. Although, “Star Wars” is coming back, Yeah, “Star Wars” is coming back.

With  J.J. Abrams. Well, I like  J.J. I’d like  to work with him again. “Star Wars” would be cool.
Yeah, you guys did “Alcatraz” together.

That’s correct.

There’s a moment in the film where you narrate the tale of King Midas. If someone was to make a documentary about the career of Sam Neill, who would you like to have narrate it?

[Laughs] Wow!  That’s  a  left-field  question.  Let’s  see. Who  would  I  like  to  narrate  it? Wow! I think Richard Burton. I think Richard Burton’s got the sonority for it, you know?

Continuing with that, if someone was to make a documentary about you, what would be the one thing that they should include in it?

Oh, my affection for wine probably. That’s my other life, which is diametrically opposed to what I do as an actor. I’m a winemaker, and I find that increasingly enthralling.

You do acting, and you do winemaking. With this being called “The Adventurer,” do you also consider yourself an adventurer of some kind or a risk taker of some kind?

I’m  not  sure  about  the  risk  taking,  but I  do  think  that my  life  has  been  a  sort  of  very unlikely  adventure,  and  I  never  expected  to  be  a  working  actor  –  let  alone,  an  actor that works  regularly  on  film and  television. That wasn’t  something I anticipated at all. I  counted  it  up  the  other  day  –  I’ve  worked  in  about  35  different  countries,  which  is phenomenal. Coming  from a  small  town in a  small country,  this is beyond any kind of reason. It’s beyond my wildest expectations. I never thought that would happen, and it’s been greatly satisfying and, really, an adventure.

Had you read the “Mariah Mundi” books before doing this film?

No, I hadn’t. They’re kid’s books.

Well, I thought you could have read them to your children, or maybe just…

No, they’re too big for that stuff.

[Laughs] There’s a part in the film where your character is having a rare steak, and he says, “A little blood does liven up the parrot.” What is the one thing in your life that kind of livens you up, even if it’s just a little, tiny bit of it?

Conversation  [and]  stimulating  company.  And  my  affection  for  wine  goes  beyond opening a bottle. I  think wine has immensely enriched my life, because I’m enthralled with  the  soil  and  the  seasons  and  the  beautiful  sort  of  rich  cycle.  But  also,  the  end product is so much… I love company; I love being with friends; I love conversation with a glass of wine. So, yeah, probably a glass of wine is the thing that starts me more than anything else. I sound like a terrible alcoholic; I don’t think I’m really [an] alcoholic. But I think, as a part of the fabric of one’s life, the one element that you can introduce to a life – that I introduced to the mechanics of my life – is a glass of wine. A glass of wine goes a long way. [laughs]

[Laughs] I wasn’t going to assume you were an alcoholic or anything, because I do like wine myself, and my girlfriend is a wino, too. She loves wine.

That’s my kind of girl.

[Laughs] Actually, I wanted to squeeze in one other question. I’m pretty sure you’ve been asked a lot about “Jurassic Park” and the new one that’s coming out [“Jurassic World”]. Even though you are not in it, if [the filmmakers] were to call you up and say, “Hey can you come in for a part in this, or even a cameo appearance?” would you still do it.
Look, you never say no. I think there’s a whole new cast and a whole new look at things, and I think that’s great. As I said, I’d never say no, but I wish them… well, I’m sure it’s going to be great, but they don’t need me.
Now showing in theaters nationwide, “The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box” is released and distributed by Captive Cinema
