Yearender 2015 - Part 2 -Celebrity Weddings & Love Affairs Of 2015

IN THE LOVE Department, those who tied the knot in 2015 include Heart Evangelista and Sen. Chiz Escudero, rocker Yeng Constantino and non-showbiz groom Victor Yan Asuncion, Saab Magalona and singer Jim Bacarro, Jewel Mische and preacher groom Alistair Kurzer in the U.S., Diana Zubiri and model Andrew Smith, John Prats and Isabel Oli (she’s now pregnant), TV host Eric Tai and Rona Samson, Toni Gonzaga and Director Paul Soriano, Bossa Nova Queen Sitti Navarro and businessman Joey Ramirez, Elvis Gutierrez and Alexa Uichico of Cebu, Patrick Garcia and Nikka Martinez, Ian de Leon and Jennifer Orcine (which was talked about after his mom Nora Aunor didn’t attend the wedding, they now have a baby daughter), Gab Valenciano and Tricia Centenera, Parokya ni Edgar’s Chito Miranda and actress Nerissa Naig.

The latest to exchange I do's is Solenn Heussaff with her Argentinian BF Nico Bolzico. They went to Argentina (where Nico hails from) ostensibly on a vacation with friends Anne Curtis, Isabelle Daza, Georgina Wilson and Solenn's brother Erwan (who's Anne's beau) for a vacation. But it turned out they will tie the knot via simple rites last December 29. Their wedding photos were posted by Solenn and friends in their instagram accounts. Wonder how this will affect Solenn's forthcoming rom-com with ex-BF Derek Ramsay, "Love is Blind".

Now also officially engaged are Camille Prats and U.S. based BF JV Yambao, and Desiree del Valle and Boom Labrusca.

NEW LOVERS IN 2015
Celebrities whose romances made showbiz colorful in 2015 include Jessy Mendiola and JM de Guzman (they reconciled after JM came out of rehab but eventually broke up again some months later when JM went backsliding into his old vice). Then there’s rocker-actor Kean Cipriano and Kapuso actress Chynna Ortaleza (said to be in an interesting stage now, but they have yet to confirm it.)

Yearender Part One - The People And Events That Stood Out In 2015

THE YEAR is about to end so let’s take one last glimpse at the people and events that stood out in 2015. ALDUB - It all started in July when Alden Richards was a guest in “Eat Bulaga” and Yaya Dub/Maine Mendoza became so conscious when he waved at her. The spontaneous Pabebe wave became a phenomenon and the Kalyeserye quickly ruled the airlanes. Alden and Maine became so popular that they were able to fill up the Philippine Arena, became a global phenomenon and trended on Twitter worldwide, got a total of 15 new endorsements (and still counting) and their first movie together, “My Bebe Love”, is currently the topgrosser at the ongoing Metro Manila Filmfest, with Maine winning the best supporting actress at that.

‘HENERAL LUNA’ - A historical movie with no big name stars predicted to flop turned out to be one of the year’s biggest box office hits, thanks to personal word of mouth endorsement by satisfied viewers who used to shun period and costume flicks. Gen. Antonio Luna is a vital figure in the Phil-American War and this movie finally gives him the importance that he deserves. It opened viewers' eyes with its question: “Bayan o sarili?” This is so significant at this time when our current political leaders think only of themselves and continue with their grandstanding.

PIA WURTZBACH - Pia’s winning the ended the 42-year drought in the MIss Universe Pageant. But it was a controversial win after host Steve Harvey made a mistake in declaring Miss Colombia as the winner, then corrected it on the air. And the controversy didn’t end there but continued on social media with so many people joining the fray.

Point Break Review: Great Action Scenes But Bland Lead Actors

‘POINT BREAK’ opened in the U.S. only on Christmas Day but it was released here 3 weeks ago and it was hardly noticed by local moviegoers as it was not at all promoted. Too bad because it turned out to be very entertaining and it could have been as big a hit as the similarly themed “Fast and Furious” series. It’s actually a remake of a 1991 movie with a cult following starring Keanu Reeves and the late Patrick Swayze, directed by a female director, Kathryn Bigelow, who’d later win the Oscar for “The Hurt Locker”.

The new version is directed by Ericson Core and it’s another tribute to machismo loaded with awesome spectacular action sequences. The original movie was set only on Los Angeles but the new one is a globe-trotting piece of cinema showing its main characters doing daredevil, death-defying stunts in various exotic locations.

The story is basically the same. Johnny Utah (then Keanu, now Luke Bracey), an extreme athlete, joins the FBI after his best friend died in an accident. He is made to infiltrate the gang of Bodhi (Swayze then, Edgar Ramirez now) who seems to be doing a series of high risk challenges known as the Ozaki Eight that aim to honor the forces of Nature. Their aim in doing various heists is not for their own material enrichment (they give the loot to the poor in Mumbai and Mexico) but for spiritual enlightenment.

MMFF denies 'Ticket Swapping' claims of AlDub Moviegoers.

MMFF Statement Released on December 26, 2015The Metro Manila Film Festival, after looking into the ticket swapping...
Posted by Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Official on Friday, December 25, 2015

Pia Wurtzbach Started As An ABS-CBN Star Circle Talent In 2002 When She Was Only 12 Years Old

DO YOU KNOW that Pia Wurtzbach is part of ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Batch 11 introduced in 2002? Exactly 13 years ago. That was when she was only 12 years old. We remember her as she was the tallest in their batch. She turned 26 on September 24 this year. She’s the eldest winner among our three Miss Universe title holders. Gloria Diaz was only 18 she won the title in 1969 and Margie Moran was 20 years old when she won in 1973.

Pia has a German father and a Pinay mom. She was born in Stuttgart, Germany. She started as a TV commercial model when she was 4 years old. At ABS-CBN, she was then given a local surname: Romero. She was introduced in the short-lived youth oriented show, “K2BU”, and did other shows like “Bora” with the Hunks, “Your Song”, “ASAP” and the soap “Sa Piling Mo”.

But her career as an artista didn’t really prosper that much and so she branched out into becoming a stylist and make-up artist. She even wrote articles on beauty in the Inquirer.

Miss Peru "Laura Spoya" trended on Twitter "For all of us and I think for most people, Miss Colombia is Miss Universe."

Some Filipinos are not too happy with Miss Peru Laura Spoya.

On Twitter on Wednesday, many expressed their dismay over the 24-year-old Spoya, who was quoted to have said in an interview with Colombian news outfit Noticias RCN: "For all of us and I think for most people, Miss Colombia is Miss Universe."

On Monday, host Steve Harvey accidentally announced that Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, won the title instead of Filipina beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach.

Harvey's mistake drew mixed reactions, with "Modern Family" actress Sofia Vergara, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, and Miss Germany Sarah Lorraine Riek, who has since apologized, all expressing their support for Gutierrez.

In an exclusive report published on TMZ, it was said that representatives from Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Mexico and other Latina countries "were [also] squarely and tearfully blaming Miss Philippines for the embarrassment."

"Although no one could coherently explain why the snafu was her fault," the gossip website added.

A photo posted by niecynash1 (@niecynash1) on
Meanwhile, the judges of the competition, namely blogger Perez Hilton and actress Niecy Nash, have since spoken up and shared that it was an unanimous decision to hand Wurtzbach the crown.

Late Tuesday, Miss Bulgaria Radostina Todorova earned praise from Filipino netizens after she was seen urging Wurtzbach to take her walk as the new Miss Universe following the controversial conclusion to the pageant.

Todorova has since expressed her gratitude on her personal Facebook account, even inviting Filipinos to visit her country.

 'Mistake was unacceptable'

Meanwhile, Osmel Sousa, the president of the Miss Venezuela Organization, has also decided to speak up about the much-talked about Miss Universe blunder.

In an interview with Venezuelan-based paper and website El Nacional, the 69-year-old Sousa said that a mistake of that magnitude should not occur "at such an important time."

Harvey has since apologized profusely on air for the error and even revealed the winning envelope to prove there was no foul play.

Jennylyn Mercado & Jericho Rosales Deliver Unforgettable, Award-Winning Performances In 'Walang Forever'

WE’VE JUST SEEN one of the finest local films released in 2015, “Walang Forever”. At first, we didn’t think much of it as we’ve already had our quota of so many rom-coms this year. But it turns out the movie will take you somewhere you might not be prepared for. The first part was really funny without forcing us to laugh.

The structure itself is already hilarious. We see so many stars and starlets (mostly of ABS-CBN, including Maja Salvador, Sofia Andres, Jane Oineza, Khalil Ramos, Michelle Vito, Jon Lucas, Julian Estrada, etc.) and also non-Kapamilya stars (Derek Ramsay, Sid Lucero, Liza Dino) giving life to various films written by Mia Nolasco (Jennylyn Mercado), a much sought after rom-com scriptwriter.

Mia is being interviewed by a TV reporter (Phoemela Baranda) about her works. It turns out all these scenes, with some alterations here and there, were culled from her real life experiences with her boyfriend of eight years, Ethan (Jericho Rosales). And the actual incidents that happened to her and Ethan on which they are based are also shown in the course of the movie.

They break up because Ethan wants to take her to Australia where his parents are based, but Mia is not ready to leave her career and her own family. Years later, they meet again and something is rekindled. From here on, we don’t want to reveal anything else as it will surely be a spoiler. Suffice it to say that there came a point when we can no longer hold back our tears, not only because of the touching situations happening on screen, but simply because both Jericho and Jennylyn are so competent and effective in their respective roles, aided and abetted by Dan Villegas’ outstanding orchestration of the whole narrative.
The movie works, first and foremost, because we get to truly care for the two characters. Jericho is most especially charming and lovable here, not only in his tear jerking scenes but even in the scenes where he is just horsing around in bed with Jennylyn wanting to be cuddled like a puppy. This is a quality of his that was never tapped before by Star Cinema (not even during the heydays of his love team with Kristine Hermosa), whose priority for this kind of romantic vehicles was either John Lloyd Cruz or Piolo Pascual.
It had to take Quantum Films to tap Echo for this kind of vehicle and we’re so glad that he replaced JM De Guzman as he is just perfect for the role. John Lloyd is good in “Honor Thy Father”, but it will be a mortal sin if Echo wouldn’t bag the best actor award comes filmfest awards night.

Jennylyn won the filmfest best actress award last year for “English Only Please”, but she is even better and more luminous here in an even more complex and even flaky role that somehow manages to pay tribute screenwriters. The scenes where Jericho tells her “Sa susunod, alamin mo muna kung totoo ang sinasabi mo, bago ka magsalita” and when she follows Jericho to Taiwan and proposes to him will just melt your heart. Viewers whose eyes are still dry at this point surely have a heart of stone and they should examine their capacity for empathy and compassion.

But of course, we reserve the best comments for Director Dan Villegas, whose genial treatment will easily win you over and even succeeds in coming up with a homage to moviemaking. The most profound and compelling love relationships are those about the dying of one’s self for your loved one and achieving true kinship with the suffering of others. This is a wonderful lesson in love and commitment that is beautifully conveyed by his movie, surely a cut above the rest of the usual rom-coms we see and which is certainly an improvement over his own past two works, “Mayohan” and “English Only”.

We are so glad that we now have a new batch of young directors who show much promise in their work even when they’re just doing commissioned romantic works, like Cathy Molina (who does a cameo in the movie), Chris Martinez, Mae Alviar, Dan and his partner, Antoinette Jadaone.

Dan also succeeded in convincing his two stars to turn their backs on the teleserye kind of acting they’ve been honed to do on TV. Here, they’re both so carefree, so at ease, so natural, and so effective. And they have an appealing, easygoing connection that makes their story even more fascinating and heartfelt. Giving them terrific support are Lorna Tolentino as Jen’s mom, Irma Adlawan as Echo’s mom, Kim Molina, Pepe Herrera, Myke Salomon and Cai Cortez as their very supportive friends.

This early, we’ll be brave enough to predict that “Walang Forever” will have long, long legs at the box office. A first rate date movie, all those who’ll see it will undoubtedly promote it by personal word of mouth endorsement to their friends, what more if it would win awards like “English Only” did.

Kris Aquino thinks 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach didn't like PNoy

Kris Aquino thinks 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach didn't like PNoy

Presidential Sister Kris Aquino said in an interview with the entertainment press on Monday that reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach didn't like her brother - President Noy Aquino.

In the said presscon, the Queen of All Media reminded everyone that earlier this year, Wurtzbach and President PNoy Aquino were rumored to be dating.

And on the day that Pia won the crown, Kris revealed why the romance fizzled.

“All of us, kaming mga sisters, from before pa, we liked her, noong naru-rumor (when it was rumored) that they were dating. She could have denied [that they were dating],” Kris said in an interview. But equally as revealing as one of the biggest plot twists in pageant history, Kris spoke her mind. “I don’t think she liked Noy.”.

“I think she entertained him but the thing is, you can tell from her character [that she’s] single-minded. Kinailangan na [Miss Universe] angfocus ko muna (It was needed that the Miss Universe pageant was what she should focus on),” she said.

Kris was all praises for Pia, admitting she liked her answers to the question and answer portions.

“I don’t see any problems with that at all," Kris said about Pia's "US bases" answer. "In a world where China is so strong, let’s admit it. Kailangan natin sila [US],” Kris continued.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens- It Exceeded Our Expectations

FANS OF the Star Wars series will not be disappointed with the newest episode, “The Force Awakens”, now produced by Disney (who bought the franchise from original creator George Lucas) and now written and directed by JJ Abrams. It’s definitely more exciting (with more awesome and spectacular action sequences) than the last three boring episodes that are prequels involving Annakin turning into Darth Vader.

The Force Awakens, Episode 7, is a direct sequel to the first Star Wars trilogy of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Series fans consider it an event and rightly so. Credit should go to Abrams (who also did the successful “Star Trek” reboot) for coming up with a new version that not only pays homage to the original but also comes up with some new characters and fresh ideas to give the franchise some new life and excitement.

The affair was hosted by Tuesday Vargas and MJ Marfori, and it also served as a presscon for them to introduce Viva Boss Vic del Rosario as their new Chief Strategist for Entertainment in 2016. MISS UNIVERSE 2015 - FINAL TOP 15 HOTPICKS/PREDICTION LIST

Hello Guys! Chelsea here. I will share to you my final TOP 15 rankings!! This is the first time I scored all the girls! It was fun and the result was surprising for me since few of my faves didn't make the cut in my own rankings. hahaha

Yesterday, I watched the Preliminary Show, and while I was watching it, I tried to score the girls from 7.000-9.999 on both SS and EG rounds. To make it easier and more realistic, I used MS Excel so I just put the scores and let Excel calculate the average scores for the final preliminary scores, after scoring all, I revealed the final scores and sort them according to the one who got the highest score and I'm a bit surprised and amazed at the results.

I tried to not peek to the results during the scoring, so that I won't be guilty of anything. Thank goodness I did succeed on not peeking.

I scored the girls based on their performance and who impressed me the most. But I'm not an expert on this, nor expert on creating predictions but here's the result of what I did.

MISS UNIVERSE 2015 - FINAL TOP 15 HOTPICKS/PREDICTION LIST

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
I admit she wasn't one of my favorites before, but she surprised me the moment she stepped out on stage. She was flawless. Her body is perfect, her face is perfect, her gown is perfect. I don't mind if she will win on Sunday. It was also a surprise to me that she did place higher than Colombia in my rankings.

COLOMBIA
Colombia, Colombia, Colombia. What do I need to say? I'm speechless. Her amazing body during the Swimsuit round really amazed me as well as her elegant golden shimmering gown. She's definitely a frontrunner, from the start and up until the end.

GEORGIA
She really caught my eye ever since. I don't remember what year she was supposed to join, but I can say she really is one of those Georgians who has potential. Now she is in the Top 5 of my list. No wonder why, she did great. I really hope she can take a revenge on Tamar's loss last 2012.

IRELAND
This Cara look alike is so beautiful! She has this angelic face. Even if she's short, she pulled off a great performance during the prelims.

PHILIPPINES
She is the most beautiful Filipino representative in the past ten years. Seriously. She's very prepared. She really has a high chance on becoming the next Miss Universe.

PARAGUAY
Myriam Arevalos, this exotic looking beauty didn't catch my attention before prelims. But she surprised me that night. She was so captivating especially during the Swimsuit round.

PERU
I find her sweet. Before the pageant started, she wasn't my favorite but she did a great job that night. She's among the frontrunners I can say. She's one of my favorites now. I hope she places.

USA
My Olivia! She's so beautiful that night. I love the red gown! It was an upgrade from what she wore during Miss USA. I still believe she can pull it off. I'm sure she can go far in the finals night.

BRAZIL
She's also not my among my favorites before the pageant season starts but she proved me wrong. She's so gorgeous, tall, and very elegant. She's just majestic. I love her performance.

AUSTRALIA
Monikaaa! She never disappointed me. Everytime I see her, she's just slayin' everything!

Marlo Mortel Feels Sad About Breakup Of Love Team With Janella Salvador Now That She's Paired With Elmo Magalona

MARLO MORTEL doesn’t hide his disappointment that his ka-love team, Janella Salvador, gets a new partner in Elmo Magalona next year. “Sino naman ang hindi malulungkot, di ba?” he says at the second presscon of his movie with Janella, “Haunted Mansion”. “Sanay na kami sa isa’t isa and I really enjoy working with her. I guess it’s but normal for me to feel sad kasi, after our movie, ‘Haunted Mansion’, dapat sana, mag-step up na ang love team namin but, heto nga ang nangyari, pinaghiwalay kami. Wala naman akong magagawa kundi i-accept ang decision ng management at sumunod na lang. Maraming fans ng love team namin ni Janella ang heartbroken but I guess, life is really like that. Just expect the unexpected. Ako naman, as an actor, mas gagalingan ko na lang para di ako mapag-iwanan. But I’m happy for Janella na may bago siyang show, kahit di na ako ang partner niya. Basta for me, life goes on.”

John 'Sweet' Lapus Happy That Even Without 'Shake Rattle' This Year, He Still Has A Filmfest Entry In 'Buy Now Die Later'

WHEN MOTHER LILY decided not have any “Shake, Rattle & Roll” entry in the Metro Filmfest this year, John Sweet Lapus said he felt sad. “Kasi for the past several years, lagi akong part ng ‘Shake’ movie tuwing Kapaskuhan,” he says. “Mga pitong ‘Shake’ movies din yata ang nagawa ko. Enjoy kasi si Mother Lily na nakikita kong pinapatay ng isang killer Christmas party of hinahabol ng mga zombie. Sa last ‘Shake’ movie, kasali ako sa lahat ng episodes at nakipagbuno pa ako sa tiyanak sa loob ng eruplano. So nang sabihing walang ‘Shake’ this year, somehow, nakakalungkot, di ba?”

It’s good Atty. Joji Alonso of Quantum Films is fielding her own horror comedy entry, “Buy No Die Later”, and got Sweet to be a part of it. “Malaki utang na loob ko kay Atty. Joji kasi kinuha rin niya ako noong one of the leads sa ‘Here Comes the Bride’ and I won my first best actor award. So when she got me for ‘Buy Now Die Later’, siempre yes agad ako, lalo na nga’t maganda ang role ko as one of the leads again.”

Jennylyn Mercado To Detractors Who Say She Doesn't Have Chemistry With Jericho Rosales In 'Walang Forever'

JENNYLYN MERCADO won the Metro Filmfest best actress award last year for “English Only Please”. It’s said she has a good chance of duplicating that feat this year as she’s equally good in her role as a writer of romantic-comedies having problems with her own love life in “Walang Forever”, directed by Dan Villegas who also directed her in “English Only”. “Naku, wala po akong ganyang expectation,” she says. “Last year, wala rin naman akong ine-expect, pero ibinigay, so this year, wag na rin lang mag-expect, pero kung ibibigay uli, di maraming salamat po.”

Some folks say she doesn’t seem to have much of a chemistry with Jericho Rosales in “Walang Forever”. “Ganyan din naman ang sinabi last year sa amin ni Derek Ramsay in ‘English Only’. Hindi raw kami bagay, so hindi na bago yan. And yet, nang ipalabas ang movie namin ni Derek, nag-click naman nang husto sa viewers so confident akong magiging maganda rin ang reception ng publiko sa tambalan namin ni Jericho ngayon in ‘Walang Forever’. After all, the same team na gumawa ng ‘English Only’, like Quantum Films as producer, Antoinette Jadaone as writer and Direk Dan as director, sila rin ang same team responsible for my movie now with Jericho.”

But they’ll be up against younger love teams like AlDub, KimXi and JaDine. “That’s true. Malalakas sila. But then, mas malalim ang material ng ‘Walang Forever’ in dealing with the more serious side of loving. Hindi lang ito basta kilig movie. Dito kasi, hindi ako naniniwalang may forever sa pag-ibig dahil naging on na kami ni Ethan, the character Jericho plays, tapos nag-break kami as he’s so self-centered. Then bumalik siya, niligawan ako uli, and then nag-split kami uli. Kaya nga ang tanong ng movie: ‘Paano magkakaroon ng forever kung paulit-ulit kang sinasaktan?’ Maraming makaka-relate dito among those who have been hurt pero marunong pa ring magpatawad.”

How was it working with Echo? “He’s a joy to work with. Friendly sa lahat ng tao sa set, maalaga sa co-stars niya, at pakain siya nang pakain with food from his Kuya J Restaurant. But more than that, napakagaling niyang artista. Kahit drama o comedy ang eksena namin, napakahusay niya. Dream come true for me na makatrabaho siya kasi noong bata pa ako, pinapanood ko talaga siya sa ‘Pangako Sa’Yo’ and I never expected darating ang araw na magkakapareha kami.”

Off-cam, the latest rumor is that she and ex-BF Dennis Trillo have reconciled, but she continues to deny this. “At this point, after so many heartbreaks, talagang takot pa rin akong pumasok sa isang bagong relasyon. I feel na I need to be more careful kasi ayokong masaktan na naman. Saka sa dami ng trabaho ko, work na lang talaga muna ang focus ko.”
