Julia Montes denies leaving ABS-CBN after "Doble Kara" ends

Julia Montes denies leaving ABS-CBN after "Doble Kara" ends

ABS-CBN' actress Julia Montes has denied rumors that she's leaving the kapamilya network soon after her afternoon series ends next month.

In a press conference held for Doble Kara's forthcoming fnale, Montes said that it never crossed her mind from the very start.

"Siguro noon naisip ko na tumigil mag-showbiz pero hindi lumipat. From the very start never kong naramdaman na napabayaan ako ng network. So wala, hindi po sumagi sa isip ko."

To prove the rumors false, Julia revealed that she is set to attend meetings with Dreamscape Entertainment, the production unit of ABS-CBN handling her series, for her upcoming drama series.

"Pagkatapos ng 'Doble Kara' diretso na. Magsisimula na kami ng mga meeting, at kung ano ang dapat gawin, dire-diretso," she said.

Doble Kara is set to on February 10, one year and a half since it made its pilot run on August 2015.

GMA Records' James Wright Releases Second Album, Single 'My Destiny' To Be Used As Theme Song Of 'My Love From The Star'

JAMES WRIGHT joined the "Anak Ko Yan" reality show of GMA-7 three years ago. He didn't win, but the three top winners in the show are now forgotten while James still has a career as a singer under contract with GMA Records. He got his big break as a singer when his single, "Sana'y Ikaw", was used as the theme song of Marian Rivera's soap, "Carmela".

It's part of his self-titled debut LP, "James Wright", produced by hitmaker Vehnee Saturno and released in May 2014. The album, which James dedicated to his mom, Gina, a cancer survivor, was eventually awarded a Gold Record. Another song from the album, "Kung Hindi Ikaw", was used as the theme song for the soap "My Destiny" with Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana.

Now, a new song of his entitled "My Destiny" will be used as the theme song of the new GMA primetime show, "My Love from the Star", starring Jennylyn Mercado and newbie Gil Cuerva. The song is part of his second album, "Just Wright", which has six songs: "Ibig Bang Sabihin", "Please Come Back", "Open Up", "Lahat ng Aking Pag-ibig", "Mahal na nga Kita" and "My Destiny".
James looks good enough to be an actor and he admits he has auditioned for some teleseryes. "I auditioned for 'Meant to Be' and also for 'My Love from the Star', but hindi ako nakuha," he says.

How did he feel about it? "Okay lang. Kasi naka-focus naman talaga ako on being a singer. When GMA Artist Center told me to take acting workshops, hindi ako ganado but later, I appreciated it kasi nagamit ko sa singing. When I audition and I don't make it, I trust the judgment of management. Mas matagal na sila in the business kaysa sa'kin so they know what they're doing. I believe that everything happens for a reason and I also believe in right timing kaya di sumasama ang loob ko."

James, 21, has an Australian dad and a Pinay mom. He has a younger sister, Vanessa Wright, 19, who joined the Miss World Philippines Pageant and was a runner up. His sister is very pretty and sexy and will join another pageant this year. James is loveless by choice. "My last girlfriend was non-showbiz, three years ago. Now, I want to focus muna on my showbiz career. I know the music industry is down so mas mahirap maging singer ngayon, kaya dito muna ako magko-concentrate kaysa sa love."

His album "Just Wright" is now available in Astroplus and Astro Vision outlets, Landmark and online at lazada.com. Its digital version is on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and other 160 digital stores worldwide.

The Great Wall Movie Review: Spectacular Period Action-Fantasy With Excellent CGI Effects

'THE GREAT WALL' is the first English language film of acclaimed Chinese director Zhang Yimou and is the first film of Hollywood A-lister Matt Damon in China. A period action fantasy about Chinese warriors trying to stop entire armies of monsters from invading China, Matt, along with Willem Dafoe, certainly lend some pedigree to this international production that also stars respected Chinese actors like Andy Lau and Zhang Hanyu.

The film begins with captions saying that there are both facts and legends surrounding the Great Wall. The movie is "one of the legends", making an outright disclaimer to any objections that will be made by detractors concerning the film's fantastic premise.

The film opens like a western at the Gobi Desert, with Matt playing a mercenary, William, who is being chased by some tribes in Northern China, along with another mercenary, Tovar (Pedro Pascal, who plays Oberyn Martell in "Game of Thrones"). When they are captured by the soldiers of a military outpost at the Great Wall, they claim to be traveling traders. The truth is Matt wants to get the formula in producing gunpowder that can make him rich abroad.

The outpost is manned by elite soldiers who belong to the Nameless Order led by General Shao (Zhang Hanyu.) Matt shows them a giant paw he has cut off from a monster who attacked him and he's told that the creature is a Tao Tie, beasts who look like giant buffalos with ugly faces and sharp teeth. The Tao Tie has long been trying to get into China and attack every 60 years (as to why only every 60 years is not explained). It is predators like this that apparently became the reason why the Great Wall was constructed.

Soon Matt and Pascal witness a big battle when the monsters attack again, which is spectacularly staged through Industrial Light and Magic magnificent special effects. They're definitely a better version of similar scenes we've seen before in the Japanese manga turned movie, "Attack on Titan".

Matt proves to be an expert archer and he also saves the life of a young soldier (K-pop idol Lu Han), so he becomes an ally of the Chinese and gets chummy with the female commander, Lin (Jing Tian), who speaks good English. Also detained in the outpost for 25 years is Ballard (Willem Dafoe) and he was the one who taught Lin and another officer, Wang (Andy Lau), how to speak English (also Latin) fluently. It is Lin who influences Matt not to just fight for money, like what mercenaries do, but for a higher cause in serving one's country and helping save humankind.

What the movie offers is a lot of spectacle, like the female soldiers who do bungee jumping down the
Great Wall to slay the marauding beasts. Another gripping sequence shows Matt helping the Chinese soldiers capture a beast alive, with everything clouded in the mist and fog. The finale is staged with hordes of Tao Tie creatures laying siege to two big pagodas. The whole thing looks more like a zombie apocalypse in "World War Z", but with a distinctly Chinese backdrop. The way the beasts themselves are designed is quite impressive, especially their queen, who has to be destroyed to subdue them all.

If you're looking for a creative masterpiece like what Zhang Yimou has accomplished before in such award-winning films dealing with delicate relationships like "Raise the Red Lantern", "To Live" or even "House of Flying Daggers", then no doubt you'd be disappointed. We think they made a deliberate choice in making this collaboration between the American and Chinese film industries a more commercial enterprise with the look and feel of a Hollywood blockbuster that will cater not just to arthouse enthusiasts but to all sorts of audiences.

Made with a reported budget of $150 million, the spectacular battle scenes will make you recall those of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. It's been released in Asia earlier as it will open in the U.S. in mid-February yet. It has to do really well both at the Chinese and American box office to recoup its huge investment.

It won many awards in the CineFilipino Filmfest last year, including best director the very young filmmaker Ice Idanan and best actor for Pepe Herrera. It stars Alessandra de Rossi as a broken hearted young
woman who gets handdrawn postcards from various parts of our country from a mysterious admirer. She then goes to the from where the postcards were sent to track down its sender. Pepe Herrera plays her neighbor who encourages her to travel. Also in the cast are Jay Gonzaga as the boyfriend who dumped her, JC Santos as a possible new love and Therese Malvar as a girl she meets in her travels.

The second indie film to open on February 1st is "Swipe", directed by Ed Lejano and distributed by Viva Films. It's about people living in a condo whose lives are all affected by dating on the internet. Mercedes Cabral is a lady guard who has an affair with Luis Alandy. When her OFW husband is about to return home, she wants to break up from Luis but he threatens her that he will upload on the internet their sex videos if she'd split from him.

Barbie Forteza's Director In 'Meant To Be', L.A. Madridejos, Says Role Of Billie Tailor Made For Her

BARBIE FORTEZA's "Meant to Be" continues to be the number one show in its slot even if other soaps were pitted against it. The show's director, L.A. Madridejos, says he knew from the start that Barbie will be perfect in the role of Billie in "Meant to Be", a bright and spunky girl who'll be linked to no less than four guys: Ken Chan, Ivan Dorschner, Jak Roberto and Addy Raj.

"Tailor made sa kanya pagiging go-getter and bubbly ni Billie," he says. "Meron din siyang all-out dedication sa trabaho. I admire yung attitude niyang 'I will give you my very best today, bahala na bukas.' Kaya naman minamahal talaga siya ng viewers. Sobrang hyper yan, bungisngis pa, akala mo naka-drugs, kaya naman nakakahawa ang energy niya sa set."

To which, Barbie butts in: "Excuse me, Direk, I don't do drugs. Malinis na malinis po ako. Natural lang sa'kin ang pagiging hyper."

So how is it working with younger actors after directing Heart Evangelista and Dennis Trillo in "Juan Happy Love Story"? "I love working with young actors kasi nakakahawa yung energy nila sa trabaho," adds Direk L.A. "Si Barbie and her four leading men, wala silang reklamo anuman ang pagawa mo sa kanila. Kahit puyat na sila, sige pa rin. But I also love working with the more senior members of our cast, like Tita Gloria Romero at sina Manilyn Reynes, Tina Paner, Sheryl Cruz and Keempee de Leon. I feel so fortunate nga to be given the chance to work with different generations of stars. Priceless yun for me."

That the show is truly very popular these days can be seen at the overwhelmingly warm reception given to the cast when they attended the recent Sinulog Festival in Cebu and the Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo. "Kahit saan sila magpunta, grabe talaga ang tilian sa kanila," says Direk L.A. "Yung mall show nila sa Robinsons Iloilo, dinumog talaga kaya hindi mo na maintindihan ang sinasabi nila on stage dahil sa sobrang lakas ng sigawan ng fans. And to think kasisimula pa lang noon ng show sa ere."

Aura Azarcon is PBB Dream Team's 1st evictee! SHOCKING!

Aura Azarcon has just been evicted from the Pinoy Big Brother house, becoming the first evictee among the 12-member Dream Team.

Aura lost in the public voting (22.19%) to fellow regular housemate Jerome Alacre (27.82%) and celebrity housemate Jinri Park (50.00%).

The result was kinda shocking coz I thought Aura has a huge fan base to back her up. Remember, she was the one who emerged as the top choice by the viewers during the time when she was pitted against Jerome and other regular housemates for a slot in the Dream Team.

In her post-eviction interview, Aura was asked who she thinks deserves and does not deserve to be part of the Dream Team. She answered Jerome and Jinri respectively.

Tomorrow, it's another nomination night. With one regular housemate already eliminated, the 3 remaining regulars (Tanner Mata, Jerome and Cora Waddell) are now outnumbered and could be an easy target for nomination by the other housemates. - Mykiru.ph

XXX: Return Of Xander Cage Movie Review: A Charmless Popcorn Actioner From Vin Diesel

VIN DIESEL had his breakthrough role as Riddick in the sci-fi action film, "Pitch Black", in 2001. This was followed by the first "The Fast and the Furious" movie in 2001 and the action flick "XXX" in 2002 where he played the extreme sports enthusiast-athlete turned agent, Xander Cage. He did a sequel to "Pitch Black" which bombed, "Chronicles of Riddick" in 2004. So he refused to do the sequels for "Fast and Furious" (2003, which focused on the late Paul Walker's character instead) and "XXX" (where he was replaced by Ice Cube and was a dismal flop.)

Vin successfully revived his career with the hit action comedy, "The Pacifier" in 2005, then returned to the "Fast and Furious" franchise which has been a surefire gold mine since then. Now, 15 years later, he also returns to "XXX" in "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage".

Xander was supposed to have died when Ice Cube replaced him, but here, it's said that he just faked his death (just like Jason Statham in "The Mechanic 1 & 2".) The killing of his former boss, Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson), makes him come out of his self imposed exile and he is tasked by a blonde CIA badass, Jane Marke (Toni Collette), to track down some uber bad guys who have taken a dangerous device known as Pandora's Box.

Xander has to retrieve the box as it can turn military satellites into deadly weapons that can destroy the world. He then recruits his own back up team composed of sharpshooting sniper expert Adele Wolff (Ruby Rose), a DJ with other lethal skills Nicks (Kris Wu) and stunt driver Tennyson (Rory McCann.) Also giving good support is Becky (Nina Dobrev of "The Vampire Chronicles") who plays a hilarious, bumbling but cute tech-support assistant and hacker.

Their adversaries are Asians: the Chinese Xiang (Donnie Yen), the Thai Talon (Tony Jaa) and the Indian Serena (Deepika Padukone). This gives the movie a multi-national cast and they all have their own individual skills shown in action set pieces with beautifully choreographed moves. But we later discover that they were actually commissioned by Gibbons himself.

This makes it difficult for us then to determine who among them is a friend and who is an enemy. Also in the cast is UFC champ Michael Bisping. Ice Cube also shows up in a cameo and it is hinted that he and Vin might be paired in a possible future sequel. The action is almost non-stop. Xander first goes to (could you have guessed it?) the Philippines while searching for Pandora's Box. It's said he went to Caramoan Islands but we doubt if they really shot it there.

The hero faces all sorts of outrageously risky situations and figures in the most spectacular hair-raising stunts (like Vin jumping off an exploding truck in mid-air and from a plane without a parachute, and still coming out unscathed). Somehow we know that, just like 007 (and Vin's Dominic Toretto in "Fast & Furious"), he is unkillable.

No doubt Director D.J. Caruso wants the movie to work both as an action-thriller and as action-comedy. He even makes anti-establishments potshots with lines like "Patriotism is dead. There are only rebels and tyrants now." It's up to you to agree or disagree. Honestly, though, despite all the hair-raising stunts, we feel that the whole thing is actually quite charmless as a popcorn actioner.

Split Movie Review: Disappointing Thriller About Did (Dissociative Identity Disorder) From The Director Of 'The Sixth Sense'

THE CASE OF a person having multiple personalities used to be called schizophrenia during the time of "The Three Faces of Eve" (which gave the 1957 Oscar best actress award to Joanne Woodward) and "Sybil" (which won the 1976 Emmy best actress award in drama for Sally Field). Now, it's called dissociative identity disorder and it's featured again in "Split".

M. Night Shyamalan made an impressive debut in 1999 in "The Sixth Sense", then it's downhill for him and his movies got worse and worse in his "The Village", "Lady in the Water", "The Happening", "Last Airbender", "After Earth", "The Visit", etc. His latest work, "Split", is similarly unsatisfying, but it's lucky to be the number one movie in America when it opened there last weekend.

It starts with the kidnapping of three girls after a birthday party: Casey (Anya Taylor Joy), Claire (Haley Lu Richardson) and Marcia (Jessica Sula). Their kidnapper (James McAvoy) is a psycho with an extreme case of split personality having 23 different personas. He imprisons them in a windowless room and we meet his other personas, notably Kevin (the host identity), Dennis (the more dominant one), Patricia (a woman), Barry (a fashionista) and Hedwig (a lisping child.) They talk about the coming of the 24th persona, The Beast, and Dennis says the girls were captured to be fed to The Beast.

The girls are shown trying to escape from their dungeon, but all their attempts are useless and they always get caught by their lunatic abductor. Shyamalan tries to construct the movie like a psychological thriller and there's little gore or nudity as you would probably expect in a film of this sort.

The problem is you never really relate with all the happenings on screen and very little genuine tension is generated, compared to past movies about kidnapped victims like "The Silence of the Lambs", "Room", or even "10 Cloverfield Lane". The girls are not really that sympathetic, especially Claire and Marcia who act like stupid fools, so you don't feel your pulse pounding when they're being threatened.

Casey is given a backstory through a series of flashbacks showing her as an abused child that made her a survivor. There's a lot of running around underground corridors that are too brightly lit, so these scenes don't really look atmospherically spooky or nightmarish as they should be.
To help in the exposition, Kevin/Dennis is shown having sessions with his psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), who helps advance the storyline. Since most of Shyamalan's movies often offer shocking twists before they end, you'd be disappointed that "Split" doesn't offer any surprise that would give it a fresh or interesting development. The boringga factor is just very high and consistent from beginning to end.

As for the acting, James McAvoy gets a truly challenging role showing off the character's multiple personalities, a dream role for any actor. It's a performance that has no restraint or realism as McAvoy obviously enjoys in chewing the scenery and going over the top. But not any of his teen female co-stars can match his showy performance, even if they're shown in various stages of undress.
Buckley as the shrink gets to deliver a lecture about split personalities ("I'm on to something BIG"), but her Dr. Fletcher is not really treated well in the movie which has no satisfying ending and you feel like you're cheated. It seems Shyamalan (who appears in a guest role with lines, a bad mistake) is expecting he'd do a sequel, and now that the movie is a hit, the producers might just be willing to bankroll a sequel where we'd be told what happened to McAvoy's character.

The Voice PH coach Lea Salonga isn't optimistic about doing doing the announced movie reunion with Pinoy Boyband Superstar judge Aga Muhlach this year.

In a press conference held on Tuesday for her concert "Songs from the Stage", Salonga said she would love to do a reunion movie with Muhlach if her schedule permits.

"I mean I would love to, again, if schedules work out. But I'm looking at my year and certain prospects and possibilities, and I'm not optimistic about our prospect for doing a film this year," she said.

Furthermore, Lea said, if the movie pushes through, it has to be something that fits their age. "It has to really be right, I mean, we are approaching late 40s na. So kailangan hindi na pa-cute, 'di na kami bagay doon. I'm not cute anymore," Salonga explained.

'Happy Together', The Must See Show This Valentine Season, With The New Minstrels & The Company Joining Forces For The First Time

THE VALENTINE SHOW to watch in this coming day of hearts is "Happy Together", featuring the combined talents of the New Minstrels with the CompanY for the very first time, produced by Viva Concerts. Each Valentine season, the singers of the popular '70s show band The New Minstrels reunite to perform much-loved hit songs to make their fans swoon and dance and savor all those memories that their favorite songs always bring.

The New Minstrels' biggest hits include Buhat, Tell Me, Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin, Iisa Pa Lamang, See You There, Ikaw Lang, Gulong Ng Palad, Nothing I Want More, Balut and many more. The members of the New Minstrels include Joey Albert, Louie Reyes, Ding Mercado, Chad Borja and Eugene Villaluz.

Joining The New Minstrels on stage will be the country's premier vocal group The CompanY, famous for their hit songs like Everlasting Love, Now That I Have You, Muntik Na Kitang Minahal, Pakisabi Na Lang, Special Memory, Nawawala Ang Puso Ko, Just A Love Song, What Would They Say, You Changed My Life In A Moment and Manila. The CompanY in its early days back in the '80s got their inspiration from the great vocal groups of the era, like the Manhattan Transfer, the Swingle Singers and most of all, The New Minstrels.

The CompanY's founder and frontman Moy Ortiz is a nephew of Minstrel Eugene Villaluz. So he literally grew up with and learned singing from The New Minstrels, but they cultivated their own, unique sound through the years. These two acclaimed groups have never performed together before. And now that they're finally performing on the same stage, it would be very interesting to find out how The CompanY will face up against its idol, The New Minstrels.

Their vocal face off will see them singing all their hits, especially the romantic love songs best heard during the Valentine season. The CompanY today is made up of Moy, for bass and tenor; Sweet Plantado, soprano; Annie Quintos, soprano; Cecile Bautista, alto; and original member Reuben Llorente, tenor, who returns for this special show after years of performing abroad.

"Happy Together" will be held on Feb. 13 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center on Roxas Boulevard. So those of you who enjoyed their past Valentine shows, do make sure you get your tickets as early as possible. This is because the concert will be very special and you will not want to miss it.

Tickets to Happy Together are now available. They are priced at P4,500 (Flat Center); P3,500 (Flat Left/Right); P3,500 (Level 2 Center, Left/Right); P3,000 (Level 3 Center, Left/Right); P2,000 (Level 3 Left/Right); P1,000 (Balcony); and P400 (Gallery). ESCAPING THE KOREAN ASIAN TRAP: Can LA PROMESA do a JANJIKU in Peru?

So how is Pangako Sa 'YoLa Promesa faring in Peru?

Just recently, we were witness to a relatively lackluster start which ended in a skyrocketing finish of Pinoy teleserye Pangako Sa 'Yo/ Janjiku in Indonesia. In Peru, the teleserye has also started slow, will it finally pick up as it hurtles on to the finish line? In both cases, they were shown in relatively "un-stellar" channels. In Indonesia, the ascent of Pangako Sa 'Yo/ Janjiku created a wave that lifted the local channel shows to the top. Will the same thing be duplicated in Peru?

La Promesa is being shown in a station that is called by Peruvians as "cold antenna" (antenna fria)", just like TV5 in the Philippines. Panamericana TV generally fares low in the ratings. Just like MNCTV before in Indonesia in the beginning when  Janjiku was shown. But we saw later that as Janjiku rose up the Indonesian  charts in the homestretch, it took along with it to the top of the ratings the sinetron shown before it and the one shown after it (the former Ayu Ayu Anak Depok City & Untuk Selamanya for the latter). See first table where Ayu Anak Depok City was #7 while Untuk Selamanya reached # 14. It is not a surprise that both Ayu Anak Depok City & Untuk Selamanya dropped out of the Top 20 when Janjiku ended its run.

This phenomenon was also seen in Peru when the first Pinoy teleserye , Puentes de Amor, was shown. For almost a decade, South Korean dramas were shown in Peru but they were always at the bottom of the Peruvian rating charts, generally  earning 1-2 points as a matter of course  (hilariously, this perennial unpopularity was constant  but  their many Spanish propaganda websites were also constant in proclaiming they were popular). But when Puentes de Amor  unexpectedly became the top telenovela for the Panamericana station, earning double those normally earned by the kdramas, the kdrama shown before it was suddenly lifted too (earning up to then unheard-of 3 points). Moreover, the slot of Puentes de Amor , which was later given to another kdrama, inherited the ratings of Puentes de Amor for a while.  That should have made them happy,  but when another teleserye was bought (Pangako Sa 'Yo/ La Promesa), the now familiar strategy of scenes of "avid" Korean fanatics suddenly protesting as if projecting  force, exploded (they were perennially at the bottom of the ratings-  it's too much a stretch to believe they always manage to convert miniscule fans into combative fanatics, be it in the Philippines or Peru, but it seems this strategy was effective enough to "massage" executives, be it in the Philippines or Peru). It was surprising because both the South Korean & Pinoy teleseryes were shown in the same channel & at different times, so it makes you wonder why. But it's easy to understand what was happening if you look back over the pattern of past events described in this blog- the constant sabotage of Pinoy artists in the international arena as described in our previous posts (See Tales of SABOTAGE in the sidebar). Especially that we first detected the sabotage done in a Spanish-language  pirate website when the  Pinoy film  Diary ng Panget became a hit among the Spanish-speaking Asian film fanatics. It was obvious that they didn't want to be upstaged by another Asian, especially Pinoys sharing the history and physical features of the disputed market. Now they were actually humiliated by Pinoy teleseryes in a Spanish-speaking public space.

The showing of La Promesa was delayed due to dubbing issues. Meanwhile, at this point, there were hossanas in thei propaganda press that the persistence of the South Koreans after a decade of low ratings were paying off (understandably, nobody mentioned of the effect of Puentes de amor). It was written that "it was good they persisted" (understandably also, nothing was mentioned  what were the quid pro quo for being shown for a decade despite their permanence in the bottom of the ratings).

Their gloating was short-lived, however. The kdramas soon returned to their familiar places in the bottom of the Peruvian ratings when La Promesa was finally shown. Below is the typical ratings of the shows of Panamericana TV. The 3 kdramas (Cuando un hombre ama (1 point), Los dos madres (0.8) , Melodia del Destino (1.4)) are the lowest in the ratings except for one morning show.

If you look at all the shows being shown in Peru- as always, they were at the bottom in the lowest-rating station..

As has been confirmed by this blog, the Pinoy teleseryes have always trounced the South Korean kdramas where they faced off everywhere in the world. In Peru, like everywhere in South America,  the South Koreans never managed to elevate the status of Asians, it just made them permanent in the bottom of the ratings. The arrival of a Pinoy teleserye therefore assured the teleserye of a dragging baggage. Could the teleserye trascend the heavy prejudice wrought by the unpopular South Korean dramas in the preceding decade? Fortunately, Puentes de Amor managed to soar a bit to heights not reached by the other Asian, but it's clear that the marketing of Pinoy teleseryes should be designed so as not to be trapped into being merely Asian, contaminated as it is by the South Korean permanence at the bottom of the ratings. The relative popularity of Pinoy teleseryes in Peru derives from their Asian Latin appeal, and we just hope the Latin appeal will engender enough connection to finally get off the Asian trap cultivated by the Koreans in the bottom of the ratings. La Promesa hasn't exactly reached yet the heights of Puentes de amor- but it is picking up.  Will it shoot in the homestretch too like in Indonesia?

Now That Kylie Padilla Is Pregnant, What Do You Think Will Happen To Her Career And That Of The Baby's Dad, Aljur Abrenica?

THE FANS OF GMA-7's hit primetime telefantasya, "Encantadia", are requesting Director Mark Reyes not to kill the character of Amihan even if the actress who plays the role, Kylie Padilla, 23 years old, is now reported to be three months preggers. They say that it's not right to kill any of the four Sang'gres in the story because if you'd kill one, then the show will surely suffer.

But those connected with "Encantadia" say it's impossible for Kylie to continue with the show as her tummy will soon be bulging and become noticeable on screen. Also, she can no longer stay up late for overnight tapings or do any strenuous fight scenes and stunts as this might affect the condition of the baby in her womb adversely.

Both Kylie and Aljur Abrenica, 26, remain silent about their impending parenthood. They've been rumored to have been leaving it after they reconciled in September last year. It will be recalled that Aljur asked his parents and two brothers to find their own place as he can no longer accommodate them in the house he built for himself. It turned out that it's because Kylie was moving in.

This apparently annoyed Kylie's manager, Betchay Vidanes, who eventually severed ties with her as she's said to be stubborn, so Betchay dropped her. There's also a scuttlebutt that they've already broken up, but someone close to them both says this isn't true and they're still very much together.

What people want to know now is how Kylie's dad, Robin Padilla, is taking this latest development in the life of his second daughter. He will now be a bonafide grandfather at the age of 46 and his youngest daughter, with Mariel Rodriguez, is also still a baby like Kylie's own offspring. We also don't know how having a baby will affect the showbiz careers of both Kylie and Aljur, especially the latter who has yet to recover after her rebelled against GMA and the public felt he is "walang utang na loob." Some folks even say that his younger brother Vin is now more popular than him.

Sing Movie Review: A Rousing Jukebox Musical With A Great Soundtrack And An Inspiring Feel Good Finale

'SING' opened during the Christmas season in the U.S. and it's a huge blockbuster. It aims to please the crowd and succeeds in doing just that with its lovable menagerie of animal characters who sing the latest hits and catchy pop songs in this jukebox musical. The story idea is inspired by the immense popularity of such reality shows as 'American Idol', 'X Factor' and 'The Voice'.

A down on his luck koala bear named Buster Moon (voice by Matthew McConaughey) is being hounded by his creditors and his run down theatre is in danger of being closed down and repossessed by the bank. He decides to save it from perdition by staging a singing contest where all sorts of animals join.

Among the contestants is Johnny (voice by Taron Eagerton of "Kingsman: The Secret Service"), a gorilla who is used by his gangster dad as a getaway driver when he and his cohorts rob banks. Then there's Mike (Seth MacFarlane), a white mouse who's an aggressive hustler who sings Sinatra songs and plays the saxophone on sidewalks for alms.

Rosita (Reese Witherspoon) is a piggie who is a devoted wife and an adoring mom to 25 little piglets. Ash (Scarlett Johansson) is a porcupine rocker who is crushed when dumped by her less talented boyfriend. Meena (Tori Kelly) is a bashful elephant who has great talent but has a hard time overcoming her stage fright. All of the actors here do their own singing and we're really impressed most specially with Taron ("Stay with Me"), Tori ("Hallelujah") and Seth ("My Way", "Fly Me to the Moon").

Buster Moon's plans to capitalize on them ends up in disaster that nearly drowns them all and demolishes his theater's entire building. But since this is a feel good movie, it's just a build up to the inspiring and rousing finale that goes for nearly half an hour where all the animals follow their dreams and break loose with their vocal gifts in an inspiring toe-tapping concert full of awesome showstoppers.

There are many good animated movies shown this year, including "Zootopia", "Moana", "Finding Dory", "Trolls" and the little seen "Kubo and the Two Strings". What sets "Sing" apart is that there are more than 60 songs used throughout the movie, from Irving Berlin and The Beatles to Stevie Wonder and Elton John to Beyonce and Carly Rae Jepsen. Most of them are heard for only a couple of minutes, but still gives the movie a really great soundtrack that should have eaten a big chunk of the budget to pay for all those royalties. And yes, there are some good new compositions, "Faith", a duet between Stevie Wonder and Ariana Grande and "Set It All Free" by Scarlett.

Giving great support is Garth Jennings (one of the movie's directors) as Miss Crawley, the iguana secretary with one glass eye who makes the mistake of putting $100,000 as the prize for the contest instead of just $1,000. Providing some cute scenes are a singing snail and a girl group of Japanese foxes. Jennifer Hudson and Jennifer Saunders also contribute well as Nana Noodleman, a former opera singer who helps rebuild Buster Moon's theater for the usual "all's well that ends well" ending.

Congrats To 'Unang Hirit' As It Celebrates Its 17th Anniversary As The Country's Longest Running And Highest Rating Morning Show

'UNANG HIRIT' is currently celebrating its 17th year on the air as the country's longest running and highest rating morning show. The show is hosted by very capable people who regard themselves not just as co-workers but as family members who supply the viewers every morning with the latest info about the weather, give them the latest breaking news and other special features that keep them not only well informed but also highly entertained.

The hosts who have great rapport with each other are Arnold Clavio, Suzi Entrata-Abrera, Lyn Ching-Pascual, Rhea Santos, Lhar Santiago, Love Añover-Llanko, Susan Enriquez, Connie Sison, Ivan Mayrina and Luane Dy. Assisting them are Nathaniel "Mang Tani" Cruz for the weather report, Atty. Gaby Concepcion, Mareng Winnie Monsod, Regine Tolentino, Juancho Triviño and Hiro Peralta.

What do they think is the show's secret for being so durable on the air? "I think mainly it's the great bonding we all have, on and off cam," says Arnold Clavio. "We treat each other as second family and doing the show together every day does not feel like work anymore. Ang saya kayang pumasok every morning in a show na laging masaya ang samahan at nagkakasundo kayong lahat."

They also go out as a barkada, playing bowling after the show, going shopping, having coffee, videoke sessions, eating out, and having parties in each other's homes with their respective families tagging along.

"Unang Hirit" not only dominates the ratings game but has also earned the nod of various award-giving bodies as the best morning show and having the best morning show hosts. They say it's all a group effort and it encourages them to work harder and always give their best each morning.

To celebrate its 17th anniversary, they went around the country to spread the Magic of Pasko from Baguio and Luneta to Cebu and Davao. packages. The hosts also treated a hard-working panadero or baker from Barangay Dolores, Taytay, Rizal. Sonny Magpantay, who has been a baker for 20 years, was given his very own bakery. As "Unang Hirit" starts another chapter this year, viewers can expect that the UH barkada will continue to be our special ray of sunshine — bringing us greater mornings to start the day right and inspire us throughout the day.

THE IMPOSTOR/ IMPOSTORA showing on Star TV Tanzania

This GMA teleserye was released in the Philippines 10 years ago yet (2007) but it just opened at primetime (6 PM) on Star TV Tanzania. It stars Iza Calzado & Sunshine Dizon. So many things have happened. The former has already transferred to rival ABS-CBN & the latter just returned to teleserye-making after a brief hiatus (AKA stormy marriage).

The trailer below was published on the page of Star TV Tanzania (though it had markings of Citizen TV in Kenya because it was also shown there, with English sub, at one time).

I guess, hit teleseryes never stops from being in circulation.
