Local Actor Teejay Marquez Hits It Big As A TV-Movie Star In Indonesia, Mother Lily Monteverde Now Signs Him Up As A Regal Baby

TEEJAY MARQUEZ started with GMA-7 in the teen show "Tween Hearts" in 2011 for which he won the best new male TV personality in the Star Awards. He also did the soaps "Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin", "Pyra: Babaeng Apoy", "Anna Karenina: and "Home Sweet Home" then became a part of "Walang Tulugan" and "Party Pilipinas". He also did a movie for GMA Films, the horror flick "Basement".

He then moved to ABS-CBN where he was included in soaps like "Dream Dad" and "The Greatest Love". He also got the chance to work in Indonesia where he became popular on Indonesian TV and was called the Dubsmash King. He even did a movie with them.

"I didn't expect to have a popular career in Indonesia," he says. "I just went there to do a TV commercial tapos na-guest na ako sa various TV shows nila hanggang na-extend na nang na-extend ang working visa ko. Tapos, may producer who got me to do a movie, pero pinaturuan muna ako ng language nilang Bahasa for one month. May private tutor ako. Nung fluent na ako, isinalang na ako sa shooting ng "Dubsmash, The Movie'. I also did some TV shows. Maikli lang yung teleseryes nila roon. Ibang ka-love team ko sa movie at iba rin sa TV."

He signed up with Mother Lily to do movies at Regal last Wednesday, with Arnold Vegafria now managing him. "We intend to do co-productions with Indonesia starring him and Indonesian actors," says Arnold. "Malaki ang market nila roon with 1.5 billion people all over Indonesia so we'll collaborate with them."

"It's a dream come true for me to be a Regal Baby," says Teejay. "I'm thankful to Mother Lily kasi very warm ang reception nila sa'kin."

So who's more "sikat" now in Indonesia, Christian Bautista? "Siya. Maski taxi drivers, tinatanong ako, how's Christian? Pinatutugtog talaga ang songs niya roon."

He has now just recorded a single with Universal Records, "Di Magbabago", a song written by 'Eat Bulaga' Foreignoy contestant Bobby Skyz. It's now available on digital format in iTunes, Spotify and Amazon. He intends to translate this into Bahasa Indonesia and release it there also. On September 9, he'll fly back to Indonesia to tape the trailer for a new teleserye. "Doon kasi, inuuna nilang tine-tape yung trailer at pag nag-click, saka binubuo yung teleserye," he says.

Paglipay Movie Review: A Touching Story Of Love And Survival Among The Aetas In Zambales

WE DIDN'T get to see "Paglipay" when it was first shown in last year's ToFarm Filmfest, where it won some awards and later also got several nominations in the Urian Awards. We're glad it was reshown as part of the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino and we finally got the chance to see it.

The story is set in an Aeta community in Zambales. And lest your forget, Aetas are the aborigines or original inhabitants of our country. A young man, Atan (Gerry Cabalic) bumps into his friend, Ani (Joan de la Cruz), while hunting and they are seen together in the river. For their tribe, this means they have to get married soon or Ani and her family will be disgraced in the eyes of their fellow Aetas.

For Atan to be able to do this, he needs to pay a "bandi" or dowry of P20,000 to the parents of Ani. To raise the amount, he leaves their community called Baytan and goes down to the town in the lowlands to sell the produce he has harvested from their farm. He also plows the ricefields of other people for added income.

While he's in town, he meets a student from Manila, Rain (Ana Luna), who is conducting research on her thesis about the inter-marriage or mixed relationships between curly hairs (Aetas) and unat or straight hairs (non-Aetas). As Rain interviews him and he accompanies her around with her friend Cai (Marinella Sevidal), a 'babaeng bakla' who tries to steal all her scenes, Atan finds himself growing in attraction to Rain.

His feelings for her are something new to him, natural and not engineered or contrived, unlike his arranged marriage with Ani. In a protracted scene showing them drinking beer, Rain gets so drunk and pours her heart out to Atan, crying unabashedly for her unrequited love with a guy whose name starts with J. He comforts her as she throws up and helps put her to sleep.

Soon, it's time for Rain to return to Manila and Atan chooses to just leave without saying goodbye to her. Back to their place in the mountains, he changes his mind and runs all night back to the plains, ready to reveal to Rain his true feelings for her.

Rain was already at the bus station when he finally catches up with her and introduces to him the guy she's in love with. And he turns out to be the guy from "100 Tula Para Kay Stella", JC Santos. It's a bittersweet ending, with the final shot showing Atan going up a mountain all by his lonesome self and reciting a solitary lament in their dialect about his sad feelings, amidst the silence and vastness of Mother Nature, stunningly captured in all its beauty by cinematographer Albert Banzon.

"Paglipay" (which means crossing) manages to show us how the Aetas manage to survive in their harsh surroundings. Mt. Pinatubo's eruption has changed their daily existence, with businessmen quarrying black sand that puts their lives in danger. We see trucks going by for a new mining project while the changes in the weather have made their agricultural livelihood harder. This film is certainly vastly different from the usual very commercial formula romcoms we get to watch all the time.

Ana Luna gives an effective portrayal of the outsider who unknowingly steals Atan's heart. This is as competent as her performance as the jologs girlfriend in "Barboys" and as the young teacher in "Maestra". Gerry Cabalic is a true blue native and is a natural for the role, unlike other films about ethnic tribes, such as "Banaue" and "Bontoc", where the male leads are actually fair skinned mestizos. He has an easy charm and doesn't seem to be acting at all.

The same goes for Joan de la Cruz who gives a very relaxed portrayal of the frizzy-haired Ani. She symbolizes the plight of Aeta women, who don't even have a say in choosing who they want to marry. We should thank writer-director Zig Dulay for giving us something different and for casting real Aetas in the lead roles for authenticity.

Bea Alonzo And The Rest Of 'A Love To Last' Cast Will Star In A Farewell Concert At The KIA Theater On Friday, September 8, 8 PM

BEA ALONZO says she will surely miss the company of her co-stars in "A Love to Last" that will end in two weeks, to be replaced by "The Good Son" starring Joshua Garcia. It started airing on ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida in January and is still going strong after 8 months as TV viewers avidly followed the love story of Bea as Andeng and Ian Veneracion as Anton Noble. They even had earlier scenes shot on location in Germany.

Viewers saw how Bea and Anton's love blossomed amidst the resistance of some people and how Bea eventually became the stepmom of Ian's three kids with his first wife, Iza Calzado as Grace. The three children are portrayed by Julia Barretto as Chloe, JK Labajo as Lucas and Hannah Vito as Kitty.

Giving the major cast great support are Enchong Dee as Andrew, Bea's half brother; Ronnie Alonte as Tupe and Jameson Blake as Fort, Julia's love interests; Tirso Cruz III as Anton's dad; Irma Adlawan as Andeng's mom; Perla Bautista as Andeng's grandma; Bernard Palanca as Anton's best friend and Matet de Leon as Andeng's best friend. Throughout the show, we saw many other stars playing various roles like Melanie Marquez, Anna Marin, Arlene Muhlach, Jenine Desiderio, Denise Joaquin, Prince Stefan, Troy Montero, Carla Martinez, Cris Villanueva, Pilar Pilapil, TJ Trinidad, Khalil Ramos and Xian Lim. No doubt all of them contributed to the show's success.

Now, the show will have its thanksgiving concert to be held at Kia Theater on September 8, Friday, at 8 PM. The stars will be performing special musical numbers for their loyal supporters. To get your tickets to the concert, log in at ticketnet.com.ph or call 911-5555.

As the show nears its end, Bea as Andeng realizes that love is not a fairy tale. After her marriage to Anton, she encounters all sorts of hardships and problems in their relationship, especially now that she also has to attend to her family's own problems. Her brother Enchong Dee has made a girl pregnant, Bianca, the niece of Grace played by Kazel Kinouchi, while her dearest grandmother Perla Bautista suffers from a stroke. Ian gave money to Enchong and helped in paying the hospital bills of her grandma, giving Iza Calzado and Cris Villanueva as Paul (dad of Bianca) the chance to accuse Bea that she really married Ian only for his money. Will the love of Anton and Andeng (or Tondeng) prove to be stronger than all the difficult challenges that are proving to be thorns on their smooth relationship or will these obstacles make them fall apart? That is what you have to find out in the last few episodes of the show. But as Bea confidently puts it: "Love will find a way. Love will triumph in the end."

HERMANAS/THE HALF-SISTERS: Believe it or not, for International Release...

I never really bothered to check this when it was still being shown in the Philippines. But I was so surprised, and delighted after watching the trailer, to learn now that it had a brillant plot: two girls born at the same time but from two ova fertilized by different sperms. Very original, just like the feral child in Cautiva/Hanggang Makita Kang Muli. I'm now really impressed by the storytellers of GMA.

Of course, not having watched it, I have no way of knowing how they developed the plot narrative. But it lasted for two years so it must have pushed the right buttons to idle homebound masses in its afternoon slot. It's now being marketed for international release. As can be seen from the trailer, the mother of the main protagonists, the still beautiful Jean Garcia, hogged most of the clips, as if the salesmen were hesitant to highlight the two main stars. I myself have reservations why the two actresses were  even discovered. GMA has mostly displayed a fine taste in  its stable of stars but the presence of not quite a few saling pusa really puzzles me. Why even bother? The two main protagonists could have passed in a comedy, but with such a spectacular plot, this teleserye could soar higher with more star-quality stars. We  see here the limitation of stars meant for a supposed clueless masa in the more discriminating international arena. There, good plots are wasted by looks that people won't be bothered with. Just look at the kdramas who actually tenaceously clung at the bottom of rating charts in many parts of the world despite the fake hossanas of the Korean propaganda.

Director Bona Fajardo Wants To See The Our Country's Beautiful Scenery In 'I Found My Heart In Santa Fe'

DIRECTOR BONA FAJARDO of "I Found My Heart in Santa Fe" is optimistic that their movie will be a crowd pleaser that audiences will love. "Feel good movie ito about finding your one true love," he says. "Perfect nga para kina Roxanne Barcelo at Will Devaughn ang lead roles nila as Jennifer and Viktor in the film, kasi sweethearts naman talaga sila in real life. Tapos, ang ganda pa ng setting namin, the virginal Santa Fe in Bantayan Island with its beautiful beaches perfect for nature lovers."

Director Bona Fajardo first worked as art director and production designer of the late Marilou Abaya in such prestige, award-winning films as "Jose Rizal" and "Muro Ami". In 2002, he won the best production design award in the Metro Filmfest for the film "Utang ni Tatang" directed by Jon Red and starring Joel Torre.

He also worked as production designer for the movie "Astigmatism" with Robin Padilla in 2004 that won the Silver award in the Hong Kong International Filmfest. He first directed a movie in 2005, "Miss Pinoy", an advocacy film about OFW's in Hong Kong starring Judy Ann Santos. This was followed by "Iliw", a period film set in Vigan and Baguio during World War II and starring Kaye Abad with some Japanese actors.

It won the NCCA or National Commission for Culture and the Arts Competitive Grant as an entry in the Cinemanila Filmfest in 2009. He was also the line producer of last year's hit with Viva, "Camp Sawi", that was also shot on location in Bantayan Island off Cebu.

"Iba yung mga lugar na ipinakita sa 'Camp Sawi' at iba rin yung mga ipapakita naming backdrop ng love story nina Roxanne at Will dito sa 'I Found My Heart in Santa Fe', not yet shown in any other movie," he says. "We chose to shoot in Santa Fe para maipakita naman sa viewers ang kagandahan ng Pilipinas. My advocacy is to show on film yung breathtaking scenery sa bansa natin na hindi pa naipapakita in other movies."

"I Found My Heart in Santa Fe" opens in SM Theatres as part of CineLokal on September 15. Don't miss it!

Patay Na Si Hesus Movie Review: A Hilarious Black Comedy About A Death In The Family, With Outstanding Performances From The Ensemble Cast

'PATAY NA SI HESUS' was first shown in QCinema Filmfest in October last year, winning the Audience Choice Award and the Gender Sensitive Film award. We heard a lot of positive comments about it then, but didn't get the chance to see it, so we're glad that it was entered in the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino where it became a surprise hit, being number two in the box office ranking after "100 Tula Para Kay Stella".

We keep on hearing some filmmakers say that they're doing a black comedy, but when we watch their work, it's obvious that they don't really understand what that means. They should then watch "Patay na si Hesus", which does not refer to Jesus Christ but to the estranged husband of Maria Fatima or Iyay (Jaclyn Jose) who died in the story. The film will remind you of the late Soxie Topacio's "Ded na Si Lolo" which is also about the hilarious events concerning a death in the family.

Filmed in Cebuano Bisaya, the movie follows the journey of a lifetime of Iyay, a single mom who works as a food vendor, and her three children from Cebu to Dumaguete to attend the funeral of Hesus. There is initial resistance because the kids are not really inclined to pay their last respects to their dead dad. The eldest child is Hubert (Vincent Viado), who is a special one as he has Down syndrome. The second is Judith Marie (Chai Fonacier, who's also in "Respeto"), a jilted lesbian whose nickname is Jude.

The youngest is Jay (Melde Montanez, said to be a lightman who auditioned for the role and was hired, this is his first acting job), a perennial board exams flunker and currently jobless. Joining them in their road trip in their minivan is their dog Hudas and their quirky ex-nun Aunt Linda (Mailes Kanapi, also Rocco Nacino's wisecracking mom in "Barboys").

Local comedies are known for their slapstick and often nonsensical humor where anything goes just to make the audience laugh. Director Victor Villanueva and scriptwriter Patrick Tabada attempt to come up with something different, and they do succeed in making "Patay Na si Hesus" quite an engaging character study of Iyay and her dysfunctional family.

During their road trip, they bring up old issues and fight, but also reconcile and make some important realizations in life about forgiveness and acceptance. And their jokes and gags, no matter how crude and irreverent, often hit the target, as evidenced in the loud laughs of the viewers inside the theater.
We get to see their various personalities, their peculiarities, their highs and lows and we are able to relate with most of their experiences. The difference in the locales showing the Cebu and Dumaguete landscape, including old churches and the Siliman University, is also a novelty in local cinema. Using Bisaya as its lingua franca lends authenticity to the movie, along with its characters and some Pinoy customs and traditions.

Jaclyn Jose is known for her dramatic prowess but here, she shows a different side of her, leading the competent ensemble cast in delivering the film's touching combination of absurd humor and poignant drama. With astute comic timing, she does not overdo the comic scenes (the embarrassing "ataul" scene and "Patay na rin si Hudas"), but also the dramatic scenes and it's to the credit of her co-stars that they are able to keep up with her.

Mailes Kanapi is an expert in portraying weird and loony characters and she's at her craziest best here, obviously enjoying herself in portraying the nuttiness of her eccentric character that even shamelessly resorts to offensive toilet humor.

Chai Fonacier as the transgender daughter carries her role with so much conviction (she won the best supporting actress award at the recent Film Academy of the Philippines or FAP Awards Night). while newcomer Melde Montanez shines in his comic banter and verbal sparring with both Chai and Jaclyn. Vincent Viado as the mentally challenged son, who gets lost in one scene, manages to steal some scenes with his deadpan but funny delivery of the word "Char."

We're also happy for the producer of this film, Rex Tiri or T-Rex Films, because his company finally got to make a movie that is making money after their series of flops from "Esoterika" to "Moonlight Over Baler". We heard that distribution rights to the movie was also bought by Columbia Pictures, so that's another feather on their cap. Congratulations!

Jake Zyrus on MMK 'Jumper' episode: "My no. 1 basher is my mom"

We have just witnessed Jake Zyrus' life story on MMK, and it came as a shock that it tackled not just only the struggles he had for being an LGBTQA member and his transition from Charice to Jake, but also how his mom "maltreated" him since his childhood days because of his sexuality.

Jake Zyrus breaks down in a scene from MMK "Jumper", August 26, 2017 episode (photo by MMK / ABS-CBN)

Based on Jake's story on MMK, his mother Racquel Pempengco, who was brilliantly portrayed by Dina Bonnevie, never fully accepted him for who he is.

There's even one heartbreaking scene where he said that his mom was his #1 basher.

"Alam mo ba kung gaano kasakit, na ang #1 basher ko ay ang sarili kong ina?", Charice / Jake Zyrus said, while talking to his ex-girlfriend (played by Erin Ocampo).

It was also shown how Mommy Racquel repeatedly called her "hayup" and "imoral".

His mom perhaps could be fuming mad now after watching his story on MMK.

I understand Jake's longing for acceptance and I respect him for who he is, but I also feel bad for his mom that she was portrayed as evil there. Assuming she's that bad, I can feel she's still a good mom because she only wanted the best for her child.

Jake Zyrus wouldn't be what he is or wouldn't have what he has now if not because of his mom, who apparently pushed him to dream big and molded him to be the Charice that the world loved before.

MMK I guess should also feature her side of the story.

What's your own thoughts on Jake's story earlier on MMK?

It marks the 2nd time that MMK will feature the life story of Charice Pempengco (first time as Jake Zyrus). Vice Ganda Should Really Be More Cautious In Delivering Jokes That Can Be Offensive To Some People

VICE GANDA found himself in hot water when he compared a "Tawag ng Tanghalan" contestant with veteran journalist Tony Calvento in a derisive manner. Tony threatened to sue him and he had no choice but to apologize on the air.

He then made fun of GMA Network when he remarked "Kung sinasabing GMA is where you belong, bakit sila nagsisilipatan?" He says it's just a joke but for some people, he was just being his usual insensitive self, often crossing the line in cracking jokes at the expense of others. Some folks are amused when he elicits laughs by putting other people down, but others get offended.

One of them is Joey de Leon, who answered him on social media with: "We don't care where we belong. Ang iniintindi namin ay TO BE LONG! Or TO BE THE LONGEST." He adds in another post: "Wala pa pala kaming kabuhay-buhay nung lagay na yun dahil LIFE BEGINS AT 40!" He is referring to his own noontime show, "Eat Bulaga", the longest running entertainment show in local TV history that will soon celebrate its 40th anniversary.

What Vice forgot when he made of fun of GMA in their noontime show is that Karylle and Bela Padilla, who were present then, both came from GMA and another co-host who's shown having so much fun with him, was also a former Kapuso. Someone should remind Vice that local showbiz is such a small world, especially now that only two top networks are really active in giving us local shows, so he should be more careful with his jokes that antagonize people.

It's true that there are Kapuso stars who transferred to Channel 2, but these are the stars whose contracts GMA no longer renewed, like Aljur Abrenica and Louise de los Reyes, who GMA really supported and tried to build up by giving them several starring roles.

Among the stars who began with ABS-CBN but found stardom in GMA are Dennis Trillo and Alfred Vargas, both introduced in Star Circle, and Tom Rodriguez, a PBB discovery. Willie Revillame used to be a Kapamilya but is now also with GMA. Also Ai Ai de las Alas. It's said that Kris Aquino is also moving to GMA soon.

Vice should really be more circumspect with his pronouncements because we all know that the "gulong ng palad" is round. Sometimes you're Up and sometimes you're Down. Vice is on the top today as a Kapamilya property and no one can argue with his success. But as they say, "bilog ang mundo", you can never predict what will happen next. Knock on wood but, what if his career at ABS-CBN suffers a setback and they drop him like what happened to his "asawa" Kris, do you think he could make a move to transfer to GMA now that he has antagonized them?

Roxanne Barcelo And Sweetheart Will Devaughn Reveal What Are Each Other's Endearing Qualities As They Star In The Romantic Movie, 'I Found My Heart In Santa Fe'

ROXANNE BARCELO and real life beau Will Devaughn star in the new romantic movie, "I Found My Heart in Santa Fe", shot on location in Santa Fe in Bantayan Island, Cebu. "It's a very beautiful place, very romantic and the perfect backdrop for a love story," she says. "And when the story was presented to us, we fell in love ni Will we agreed to co-produce it."

Produced by Blu Art Productions of Ms. Lyn Fajardo and directed by her husband, Bona Fajardo, "I Found My Heart in Santa Fe" will help the viewer to discover and explore this magical place with its pristine beaches where the sea meets the sky.

Roxanne and Will have been an item for four years now. "We first met in 2011 as presenters sa Star Awards," Will says. "May connection agad, may kuryente, and we talked for four hours. Then 3 months later, we auditioned for a musical and I had to sing to her. I remember birthday ko pa nun. Hindi natuloy yung musical, but our friendship continued. I think the forces of the universe conspired. Pero 2013 pa before naging officially kami."

What qualities endear them to each other? "Ang maganda is we started as friends muna," says Roxanne. "No putting of your best foot forward. Sa umpisa pa lang, nakalatag na lahat ng baho. We are so honest with each other. He's very sweet, thoughtful, not just materially but even sa little things. He's really a simple guy, hindi maarte sa katawan, easy to please."

Will became emotional and teary eyed when it's his turn to answer. "Sorry," he says, wiping his tears. "Something got into my eyes. Sobrang lambing niya. Napaka-giving na tao. She's a woman that every man would love to have as a friend, partner, soulmate. I know she's the one, the love of my life. And she's super funny. That's important as there's not a day that we don't laugh together."

When they do intend to take their relationship into the next level, which is settling down? "We started as friends and it's a good way to start," says Will. "As to when we'll get to the next level, I guess kapag dumating ang tamang panahon. She deserves all the best so we will only do that when we get to where I need to be to be able to give her all the best."

What can Roxanne say about this? "Tama naman yun. There's a right season for everything. Right now, time for us pa rin para mas tumutok muna sa trabaho kasi ang daming opportunities na dumarating sa ngayon, kaya I want to give my 100% muna sa career ko. A line from the movie describes us perfectly: 'Love doesn't ask because it's ready to love or it's ready to trust.' And that's how I feel about it."

Aside from this, Roxanne has also completed a new movie with Rafael Rossel, a psychological thriller about a series of killings during Holy Week, entitled "Way of the Cross". She's also in the cast of an international action flick, "Blood Hunters." Next year, she and Will co-star with Glaiza de Castro in a bigger international movie. On TV, she is also in "Wildflower" on ABS-CBN playing an antagonist to Maja Salvador and getting good feedback for it. "It's her time to shine," says Will.

"Basta as of now, Will and I are just very proud to have done 'I Found My Heart in Santa Fe'," she says. "Lahat ng eksena rito, maganda. Those who have not been to Bantayan Island, ito na ang chance nyo to see how beautiful the place is. Hindi kami mahihiyang ipapanood ito kahit kanino, to viewers here and abroad. It will open on September 15 sa SM Cinemas as part of FDCP's Cinelokal so don't miss it."

In "I Found My Heart in Santa Fe," Roxanne plays Jennifer, a pretty girl who helps manage their family's resort in the island called Beach Placid. Jennifer is heartbroken, coming from a love affair gone wrong. Will plays Viktor, a German-Filipino who loves adventure. He works with Green Technology, a company that goes into business ventures in different countries. He is well off but he can feel that he is missing something in life. The film follows their journey and blossoming romance.

Wil Dasovich reveals in his vlog: "I was diagnosed with cancer"

It is really heartbreaking to hear the sad news about the famous vlogger, model and former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Wil Dasovich.

"The other day, I was diagnosed with cancer," Wil Dasovich has announced in his latest vlog entry

The fun-loving Wil has just revealed in his 382nd vlog entry entitled "The Doctor Finally Told Me (BAD NEWS)" that he was diagnosed with cancer the other day.

But he assured his Youtube Channel's over half a million subscribers that his current condition and the hardship he's facing won't stop him from having fun and influencing people in a positive way.

Watch Wil's heartbreaking confession, and it's hard not to cry while watching it.

The 25-year-old Fil-Am vlogger further shared in the video description that he's been going in and out of the hospital due to internal bleeding, before the doctor finally informed him with the diagnosis that he has cancer.

After months of internal bleeding and frequent visits to the hospital, the mystery is finally over. The doctor called with the diagnosis on my condition. After hearing the news i could not help but reflect on everything that I have experienced in the last 25 years and how i got to this point in my life. The purpose of my vlogs as a whole are simply to provide a personal perspective and exemplify the way i have lived my life in a positive and meaningful way, focusing on how i have experienced as much as i could within the amount of time given. One of my most requested videos is about how i got to where I am today so i figured this was a good time to make that video. If there is one thing i want you to remember, it can be summarized by the following quote: "It's not the years in your life, but the life in your years that count."
