Bay Bridge Closing from Friday Night to Tuesday Morning Due to Needed Construction Work
The upper, westbound deck of the Bay Bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21. Extra ferries and overnight BART trains will operate during the closure.
The westbound deck of the Bay Bridge heading into San Francisco will be closed during the upcoming Presidents Day weekend from Friday night to Tuesday morning, according to bridge officials.
The lower, eastbound deck of the span will remain fully operational. Some local public transportation agencies, including BART will increase service during the closure of the westbound bridge.
The upper, westbound deck will close at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, with a scheduled reopening at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, though the reopening could be delayed by weather, according to the Bay Bridge Public Information office.
The closure is needed for construction work on the eastern approach to the new Bay Bridge under construction, bridge officials said.
BART will run limited, hourly overnight service with trains stopping at only 14 stations during the closure.
Additional ferries will be operated by Alameda-Oakland Ferry, Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry and Vallejo Baylink Ferry. Click the links for each ferry service for details.
AC Transit will not operate its Transbay service over the bridge during the closure, but it will continue regular service in the East Bay by operating to and from West Oakland BART. The all-night Line 800 will connect with BART's special overnight service (except on Tuesday morning, 1-4 a.m.) by operating to and from Oakland's 12th St. BART station. Click here for details.
Bridge offiicials recommend allowing extra time for travel during the closure period, whether going by public transit or taking an alternative bridge to and from the San Francisco peninsula.
