Besides winning awards at the recently-concluded New York Festivals, Karylle is also nominated in the Best Actress-Drama category of the Monte Carlo TV Festival to be held this June at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
“Sobrang happy. Nakakatuwa kasi nung nakita ko yung listahan, nakita ko may mga Tina Fey, Julianna Margulies. Syempre, yung puso ko tumambling talaga,” she said at the launch of the third single for her album “Roadtrip” on Monday, April 23.
Besides Julianna Margulies of “The Good Wife,” Gretchen Mol and Kelly Macdonald of “Boardwalk Empire” and Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke of "Game of Thrones" are also nominated in the same category.
The “It’s Showtime” host shared, “It makes you realize that it’s a big world out there and there’s so many talented people and it just wants you to be better at what you do.”
She added the acclaim “The Kitchen Musical” is getting is much sweeter since the show has a number of Filipino cast members. Apart from her and Christian, Filipino actors Ikey Canoy, Thou Reyes and Art Acuna are also part of the said musical series.
Unexpected
Did she expect to receive this kind of recognition for her work in “The Kitchen Musical”?
“Nung dumating yung ‘Kitchen Musical,’ sabi ko, ‘okay ito, this is my dream role.’ Tapos ang tagal bago nagkatotoo, one year. So when they finally called me back, nandito na sila sa Philippines. I even had a different project that I had to give up,” Karylle shared.
The singer-actress further said, “For me, it wasn’t about what’s gonna happen. It’s just me living my dream, my dream role.”
Karylle added that the second season of “The Kitchen Musical” will most likely start production by next year.
As for local projects, Karylle said she’s just waiting for the right material and the right timing.
“Wala pa kasing dumarating na magandang script e. O kung meron man, hindi nagtutugma sa schedule,” she said. “Minsan dumarating talaga yung mga opportunities, and when they do come I just go for it.”
Right now, she’s busy co-hosting ABS-CBN’s noontime show “It’s Showtime.”
No conflict
As for the reported conflict between “It’s Showtime” co-host Vice Ganda and their director Bobet Vidanes, she said, “Actually wala namang naganap na ganun but of course pag di kasi masyadong sinasagot ang intriga, nagiging mas magulo siya. So since hindi naman ako directly involved, mahirap magsalita kasi hindi ko naman alam ang sasabihin ko.”
As one of his co-hosts, Karylle attests that Vice is not difficult to work with.
“Gusto kong sabihin na masarap siyang katrabaho and nararamdaman ko talaga yung pagmamahal niya in the sense na yung suporta niya is all out,” she said.
